Another 6" Nexus? - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So what do y'all think? I love my Nexus 6 for its shear size, I personally would LOVE to see another huge Nexus like this one! Thoughts?
Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk

I really don't think it would ever happen again. I like the size of my Nexus 6 but, I really think that 5.7 in would better suit me for my next phone. Basically, I'm not on the whale phone bandwagon but, I'm not in the 5 in phone camp either.

My greatest desire from the next Nexus is something around 5 inches that I can easily use with one hand and doesn't swing around like giant brick in my pocket that hits me in the nuts every time I take a step. My last 3 phones have all been huge (5.7 inches or larger), so I'm ready for a change.
If they make two Nexuses (or is it Nexii?) again this year, hopefully they'll be of equal specs instead of a huge premium device and a small budget/midrange device.

Yeah agree, even the OP3 felt and looked small in comparison to the 6 inch Nexus i had. Do miss the bigger screen sometimes though when watching youtube, video`s and pics

For me a 5.2 inch screen would be perfect. I had the LG G2 before my nexus 6 and that was for me the perfect size.

I can understand that. But 6" size compared to 5,7" is not much. For me it's the back of the N6. It's round and should be flat. Just for easier fitting in car kit and belt cases.
Secondly an option to choose dark themes for system and G-apps.

The round back I can agree with, if you've never wanted your Nexus 6 to slide off of a flat table, guess what? Too bad! Lol @Face_Plant it's racking you? Jesus! Never had that issue brother LOL I'm a sucker for a huge display, the size of this phone was a HUGE factor in purchasing it, icing on the cake that it was a Nexus, stock Android and a HUGE dev scene!

I like my Nexus 6, but its to wide for me. Something like Nexus 6p, Xperia Z3 perfect for my hand and its easy to use with one hand. Before buying I know that phone is really big, but I bought it because its Nexus and I never buy again other brand than Nexus.

Arguments about the screen size would be different, when the Nexus phones would be exactly the same (inside) and the only difference would be the screen size.

After getting this Nexus 6, I'm sold on them for sure! I'm only going for the Nexus line now.

It's true, I mean, the 6p is more powerful than the 6, but that small bit of screen to me is wonderful. I like how wide the 6 is! The 6p is strangely long to me.

me, being 5'7", with average sized hands, would absolutely LOVE for the next nexus to be 6".. but i have a feeling that it wont happen

I had 2 Nexus 6Ps and on both the bezel bent at the volume rocker. Sold them both instantly and bought (another) White 64gb Nexus 6 sealed in the box for 350. Best phone I've ever had. Still waiting for something worth upgrading to, because obviously the 6P was a FAIL

I love the size of my 6" Nexus 6, but I think it will be easier to use a 5.7" in VR headsets, at least the ones that are available now.

The N6 screen has 1440 x 2560 pixels. I've seen 5,7" phones with 1080 x 1920.
The use of 5,7" would be OK as long apps including G-apps does not use the higher resolution.
Or do I see it wrong?

I was thinking more of the physical size being able to fit into VR headsets. Even with my case off, my Nexus 6 barely fits and even then it's hard to keep the power and volume buttons from getting hit.
Another reason to accept the newer/smaller size on a new Nexus is for the upcoming Daydream, Tango, and Valve.

Can't decide whether to get a Moto X or wait for the new Nexus

So as the title says I am having a tough time figuring out what I want. Just looking for some input on why you guys chose this phone over others?
Unless the new Nexus is only 5in, has better camera or is MUCH cheaper I see no reason to get it over the X.
Depends on what the screen size is on the new Nexus. If it's 6 inches then I might opt for the X.
If it's as big as the pics that are leaked then definitely the X. I'm typing this with my Nexus 7 and it's not much bigger than the new nexus. Way to big for a phone.

Considering the 5 retailed for $350 out of the box, and this at $450, most likely, the new Nexus will be cheaper (unless they do actually release a gigantic phablet). Also, the N5 came with wireless charging, which is an awesome feature that the X2 is missing. I believe there have also been rumors of a qHD display as well as 3GB RAM and a much larger battery. Of course, most of that speculation would be based on the 5.92" screen, which is just ridiculous (in terms of size).

None of which really would appeal to me unless I was looking at the Note.
I think you misunderstood... I'm saying that if it comes with those specs in something like a 5.2" housing, that would be amazing. I don't want a bigger phone either, my old 5.5" was too unwieldy, 5.9" is just impractical.
If you did understand, then I don't know what you want in a phone. Because if a better quality, higher resolution display, more RAM, a larger battery, wireless charging(, for possibly a cheaper price) don't appeal to you, then I don't know what else would set apart a phone with an almost identical OS.
I'm waiting to see what Google announces before I do anything. The first 2 weeks of October should allow me to make a decision since Google is expected to announce something mid-October. I'm also interested to hear what Sony announces in early October with the Z3. Along with the X, those are the 3 phones I have my eye on going forward.
I'm interested to see about the Droid Turbo, Nexus and Z3.

Don't be so easy to dismiss it. 57% of Apple users are choosing the iPhone 6 Plus which is 158.1mm tall, instead of the 4.7" iPhone6. These people are coming from a 3.5" screen and more recently a 4" screen and they are picking a massive 158.1mm 5.5" phone by the 10s of millions. So Android users that for years have been using 4.7" to 5" phones, a possible new Nexus phone that will be about the same size as the iPhone 6 Plus (remember Apple has no choice but to have that fugly bezel on the bottom and a symmetrical one on the top) should be no problem and a much smaller size difference than what 10s of millions of Apple users are going for. If you don't want it that's fine. But just like the 10s of millions of the users that are choosing the iBend6 Plus, you will be in the minority.

If you don't need a new phone right this second, I can't see why you wouldn't just wait until the new Nexus device comes out. Then you can compare two devices that you actually know what they are, rather than comparing a device that exists, with a device about which there are only leaks, rumors, and speculation. That kind of doesn't make any sense.
In any case, that's what I'm doing. I want to see what the next Nexus device is like first.
Besides, some rumors suggest the new Nexus device will be announced in two weeks. If not, it will still probably be sometime in the next couple months. Doesn't seem like a big deal to wait.

Where are you getting this info? Almost everything I've read shows that the iPhone 6 is outselling the 6+ as much as over 4 to 1 in some places.
I would agree to try something out before dismissing it. But after handling a Note 3 and briefly owning an OPPO Find 7a, I can say, that, unless the Nexus manages to be the same dimensions or smaller than my G2 was, I won't be picking up an N6.

I truly believe that this is not a good indicator of how the phone/tablet/phablet market will trend. It's an Apple product, people will buy it regardless of what it is because it's new and it's by Apple. Period.
Well, now you know: This is the Motorola Nexus 6

What's next for Nexus 5 users??

Hopefully i'm not alone on an island when I say that the Nexus 6 is just too large for me. If i wanted a phablet, there are other alternatives. Having said that i was just curious what the future of Nexus is going to be? I suppose it's way too early to know, but just wanted to put my mind at ease because ever since the latest release, I'm really at a loss as to what my next phone purchase will be?
We now have the Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 6, nexus 7, Nexus 9, Nexus 10? Will they refresh the current screen sizes with newer hardware? I really hope so cause screen size is the biggest factor now for me in terms of buying a nexus. If the nexus 4 had a refresh, i would have totally gone with that. Thoughts anyone?

If you're looking for your next phone, I HIGHLY recommend the new Moto X. Gorgeous and powerful hardware, stock Android with a few actually useful and innovative additions, and it's sold for a great price. I have both the N5 and Moto X and the X is an upgrade in every way, and IMO is the spiritual successor to the N5.
After not being able to get N6 64gb the last 3 weeks & playing with one at a tmobile store, I've decided its too big! My Nexus5 is still rocken for now. I'll be watching S810 device's announcements at CES Jan. 5, 2015. Maybe a Sony Xperia Z4/Z4 Ultra, M9 or other newly branded devices. Thin frame, stereo front speakers, 5.5 to 5.7 screen, unlockable, etc are my preferences...

Nah. Last year, I wanted at least a 5" 1080p display. Nexus 5 was close enough.
Agreed the NEXUS 6 is too large. Not the display, the entire phone. Anything larger than the LG G3 is too big for a phone, for me.
This year I wanted at least 5.2" 1440p (preferably the size of the LG G2) with Snapdragon 805. As late as mid-August Google was testing a 5.2" 1440p with Snapdragon 805 to be the NEXUS 6. But instead they they stupidly went with the monstrosity, and let Motorola release the 5.2" version as the Moto Maxx/Droid Turbo.
So in getting the Moto Maxx in spite of the silly capacitive buttons.
I'll have to check out the Motorola phones then, but the goal really for me is something smaller than 5 inches, but a "nexus" device for the fast updates.
Yea I'm in the same boat. The N6 is insanely big especially for my hands and there's really nothing that stands out about it besides fast updates. Now that it's nearly twice as much its put itself in a completely new category against the note 4 which literally destroys it in every way besides the front speakers and updates (I also prefer no buttons but since the galaxy phone home buttons are now fingerprint scanners it doesn't seem as bad) and I don't ever use the speaker in the phone besides occasionally showing a friend a YouTube vid or notifications. I'm between a note 4 and just keeping my n5 until s810s start popping up.
all the reviews for the Moto X (2014) cite a mediocre battery life and hit or miss camera results. Those are literally the two things holding back the N5.
Exactly. The Moto X could have been the top phone on the market but they failed on battery and cam. So I'm leaning toward the Droid Turbo, but I'm still not sold on it. The size is tolerable (N5 seems just right. N6 is ridiculous) and battery isn't as good as they claim but still far better than N5. Camera, I'm not sure. Mixed reviews I think.
Is the moto x even an upgrade in any area? The software seems to be what people like. The hardware is basically the same in every day use as a nexus 5 isn't it?
Nexus 6 is too big for hands, that's for sure. No way you're going to one-hand that with a cup of coffee in the other and still slide your metrocard to get on the subway. And forget about getting that thing into your pocket.
Why did they ruin our Nexus? And why are they charging twice as much? I'm actually very sad about all of this. Now I'm stuck with deciding between the Moto X and the Droid Turbo. Sucks.
You know what? I'm just gonna keep my Nexus 5. This phone rocks. Google just sent me a free refurb replacement, and with Lollipop, it feels like I have a brand new phone.
Nexus 5 is still a great smartphone and still a superb buy, even this time next year it still be decent and rocking with whatever latest Android is by then, plus hopefully Google will see sense and go back to a 5" or 5.2" screen & give either HTC or Sony a bash at a Nexus Smartphone, or better still have 2 Nexus Smartphones Phablet and standard to keep everybody happy.
I was very very close to getting a moto x, but after flashing lollipop, my Nexus was like a brand new device and I decided I would stick with it for a bit.
Then I was lucky enough to get an invite for the oneplus the other day and it is expected to arrive this weekend. We will still if that is a worth successor without being too big.

For now, I'll keep using the Nexus 5, although I initially wanted to buy the Nexus 6.
Unfortunately, the significant price increase (Nex 6 costs about 300 EUR more than a Nex 5 in the German Play Store) forced me to do the decision not to buy it. I primarily need a good developer phone, and 650 EUR for the Nex 6 is just waaaay to much money.
Best Regards,
Benjamin
I'm holding out to see what Samsung and HTC do in the spring. GS6 and M9. Nothing from this year impresses me. Scratch that... Note 4 hardware is impressive, but TouchWiz still kills it, as always.

Probably gonna wait for the nexus release next year. Price is way too high for a nexus 6. I'm good with a 5.in fact I bought a used one about a month ago and it's still a very fantastic phone for its price. I'm kicking myself now for not buying it 1year earlier.
absolutely moto X
Z3c
LG G3 with cyanogenmod for the win phone has the right hardware, size, removable battery , now we just need the right ROM. Until then I'll stick to the N5.
I was wanting the Xperia Z3, but ****ing Sony and their DRM removal when you unlock the bootloader... the camera turns to **** and the modem/radio doesn't even work when you unlock the bootloader! I'm watching the Note 4.

Was the Nexus 6 screen too big?

Hi, Was reading about the Huawei Mate 8 and how it might be used as a basis for the next Nexus 6. The Mate 8 has a 6 inch screen. However, in the article it mentioned that the screen size of the Mate 8 would be reduced to 5.7 (among other changes) as many Nexus 6 users complained that the screen was too big on their device. So, I was wondering, after having used the Nexus 6 for a while now, do folks here really feel that the screen was too big? Thanks!
I like it

It is in the first place the resolution 2560 x 1440 pixels. If that resolution needs 6 inch display it is alright.
I wonder if the 5,7 inch display you mentioned has the same resolution as the N6 display.
The screen size is perfect for me. I wouldn't mind a 6.3" display as long as the bezels were very thin.
I wouldn't want it any smaller.

Phone seems like a completely normal size after a short time of ownership
I have no issues with the size of the phone or the screen-I wouldn't go back to anything smaller really! At first I though it may be too big but after having the phone for about 2 days-I was done with the 5-inchers
The Nexus 6 is the perfect size for me.
Its a good fit for me after the first few days of usage! Would not down size after having this size of a screen.
I thought it was too big at first, but after months of usage my wife's Samsung S6 seems too small. I've always rolled without a case which certainly helps.
Interesting everybody that has replied likes the bigger screen. Perhaps this result is skewed because anyone who was unhappy with the Nexus 6 screen size probably sold their phone and bought a Note 4 instead! lol. I'm not sure what typical person was interviewed by google/huawei that didn't like the bigger screen. For all I know, that was made up. Anyway, I'm planning on getting a new phone and definitely want the larger screen. Some candidates are the Blu pure xl and the Mate 8 when available. Don't know if there are other choices so I'm not sure yet. Thanks for you comments!
Btw, @wolfen69, you might want to check this one out depending on where you live. http://www.honormi.com/letv-max-70 It's 6.3 inches!

This.
Idk if Ill be getting the new nexus.
I just bought one used, basically sold my oneplus one and was going to buy a oneplus 2 but may never get an invite. This phone is amazing...way better than my opo and I think if you love development and custom ROMs you may as well get an older phone so development is well under way. I get to flash a bunch of different ROMs until I settle on a daily driver...
---------- Post added at 09:46 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:44 PM ----------
I realize the screen is bigger but a 5.5 inch phone is basically already two handed so you may as well go for the bigger screen. It doesn't feel much bigger than the OPO in daily use but it is noticeably bigger when watching video

Because of this i may not end up with the larger screen nexus this year ..it should have been left at 6 inches.

Coming from an N5 I thought this would be too much but it's a good size. For me it's about the overall thickness. If it was a brick on my pocket it would suck but it's so thin I barely notice it's there in my pocket.
Too small. I wish the 6.8" Huawei P8max came here, I'd get it in an instant.

Purchased N6 but requesting return... Good decision?

I'm coming from n5 and really wanted to upgrade to n6p until I saw the price! This is one of reasons I didn't upgrade to n6 when it was released last year, the other being that it seemed too big!...
I recently purchased n6 64gb for about £200 from rakuten (£200 as got £80 worth of points)... I'm a tinkerer and love timely updates to OS when Google releases new versions and hence why I really wanted you stay with nexus, plus the fact that there's more development for nexus devices than any other devices...
I've requested a return but not received the RMA yet... I was probably going to stay with n5 until n6p prices come down or buy either moto x style or g4 whichever received timely Android 6 update...
Any advice / suggestions welcome ? Am I going to regret sending n6 back especially considering the price (my main reason for sending back is the size... Seems like a spade in my hand and I've had a look and no other manufacturer has released such a ginormous phone recently... Even Google played safe this time with 5.7")...same as note 5!...
Also, as current owners of n6 what would you say about the size? Have you learnt to live with it or do you love the size that any smaller you would find hard to accept?
ginormous.. its all related to how you personally see the world. i had a n5, bought a n6, grabbed my n5 3 days later and it felt way to small. i im not a big person. im 5'7", with medium small hands. and the n6 feels so perfect in size.
I love my n6. I will get the n6p for no reason when it goes down in price. My n6 was 300. Oh yea I will be giving it to my sister and keeping the n6p. I would keep the n6 if I was you. For the reason that there is not one phone out there like it. This phone is so unlocked unblocked. You can never stop doing so much to it. Hopefully n6p is as equal.
I had a nexus 6 then I jumped to an S6 then Note 5 and now I'm back to a Nexus 6 if that tell you anything.
N6 was only "Too big" for about 2 hours. Now it feels so normal I think all other phones are to small. But I do think that n6 is the maximum size phone for me.
Many thanks for all the replies...much appreciated. Going to sleep over it but looking more like I'll be keeping it now ????
I came from a N5 about 2 weeks ago. Always felt the N6 was too big, but after the recent price drops on it at Amazon I bought one... 2 days later I got used to it fully and now love the size. Even my wife who is tiny, is starting to like the size of the phone. I loved the N5 but at this point I feel the N5 is just too small now. I love the N6. But I get that the N6 is not for everyone.
I've used the N6 off and on since February, and I still feel it's to big, sane as the Xperia z ultra I had. Note 4 was a better size, though somewhat awkward to hold for me. My bit to small, but i I'm switching back to it when ever my brother sends it back to me. I was going to get the N6P but I think I'll wait a bit, maybe get the Xperia Z5P.

Similar but not exactly same... Note 4 about 5mm+ smaller in length and width and does not feel as big as n6 (I purchased note 4 about 6 months ago and it turned out to be fake so sent it back to fleebay seller!)...
RMA paperwork has come - decision time!!!!!
I am get used to the N6 size in just a few days, came from N5.
And now, I cannot have phone with smaller screen size.
5.7" is OK, but N6P is ridiculously expensive right now. So, I am holding not to upgrade. Besides, N6 is still decent, great performance, great battery life (even better with Android 6.0)!

Right I think I'm keeping the phone but before I start messing about with it I need to know what to check to ensure I don't have a faulty phone or refurbished unit sold as new as I've read in a few places...
Any common problems to watch out for please?
Thanks
speaker distortion, yellow tint, half screen glitched, loose speaker grill, peeling letter on back. there are probably drive I forgot. you can search earliest threads in Q&A I think.
well i recently bought the Nexus 6, and i love it to bits.
i always was a Sammy fan but i got sick of the source codes not being released for the Exynos models of theirs... and their latest Phones s6 etc. are kind of locked completely so i made a jump to the Nexus 6 from my Note 4 which i still have,
and damn even though the Nexus 6 is bigger it feels so much better than my Note 4, and the bigger plus point is the Custom Rom section it got loads of Roms.
i even think that it looks way way better than the new Nexus 6p , it depends on you and your wallet in the end though.
i would suggest keeping your current Nexus 6 simply because it is a beautiful beast , it rocks.
my only minus poiint is that the battery is abit disappointing .

well i recently bought the Nexus 6, and i love it to bits.
i always was a Sammy fan but i got sick of the source codes not being released for the Exynos models of theirs... and their latest Phones s6 etc. are kind of locked completely so i made a jump to the Nexus 6 from my Note 4 which i still have,
and damn even though the Nexus 6 is bigger it feels so much better than my Note 4, and the bigger plus point is the Custom Rom section it got loads of Roms.
i even think that it looks way way better than the new Nexus 6p , it depends on you and your wallet in the end though.
i would suggest keeping your current Nexus 6 simply because it is a beautiful beast , it rocks.

Thanks - Just like you I was a big Sammy fan until I tried a Nexus 4 and instantly loved the speed and experience...and not long after decided to purchase Nexus 5 which i've nearly had for two years and still loving it...but wanted a change!
I was going to give Sammy another go with either S6 or Note 4 until I saw their ridiculous prices and lack of memory expansion not to mention swappable battery (though this would not bother me if the manufacturers use a decent size battery!)...and thought nah...Sod Samsung for their arrogance, they wont get my custom!

Still nexus 6?

Hello I'm after upgrading from my LG g2 and I was originally going for the 32gb moto x style for £350 but I can get a brand new 32gb Nexus 6 for £260, would you recommend the nexus 6 or should I spend the extra and go for the Moto x?
Thanks.
Also I always thought the nexus 6 was too big and completely dismissed it until I held one the other day and I loved it, I love amoled screens as well ?
I've had my N6 for the best part of a year now and I can't see myself changing it for quite a long time yet. Go for it.
Thanks mate ?
Coming from a G2 like you, and is a huge improvement! Only thing missing is qremote...
I also made the jump from my G2 to the Shamu earlier this week. I love it! It definitely has enough muscle to keep going for at least another 2-3 years, since it has a powerful SoC, and 3gb of RAM.
Also keep in mind that the Shamu will have significantly stronger developer support than the Moto X down the road.
Going from the G2 to the Shamu is actually a lot easier than I expected. I feared that it would feel too big and difficult to handle, but it's not bad at all. Even for me, since I don't have big hands.
The screen is beautiful, and the sound is awesome: clear and loud. Low light pictures are great, even compared to the G2.
On 6.0 with Doze it gets great standby battery life, and great battery life in general.
I say go for the Shamu!
I was never fan of big phones, but now I just love my N6. It feels so strange to hold my old N5 after this one..it is so tiny .

i love the remote... promise.. this is the feature that i loved with my g2"
Today, I think I talked somebody *OUT* of a blackberry priv by letting him try typing on my nexus 6. Its a night and day difference over typing on a 5" touchscreen. The size makes it actually *possible* to get by without a real keyboard.
Coming from an LG G4, to a Note 4 then an S6, now the Nexus 6, its far nicer than all of them, I always put off the N6 dues to its size, but after having a go on one, I was hooked. Always loved my old Nexus 5 and this Nexus 6 is simply fantastic.
