For 1st time, I not sure to install a Custom ROM - OnePlus 3 Guides, News, & Discussion

Hi,
I got the 1+3 since 3 days, and I must say that from the ROM point of view I quite happy with it ;
It is ...
1. Stable
2. Quick
3. Battery friendly
4. Enough customisation
5. Not Bloatware
Of course there is room for improvement in each points, I know, but ....
Usually I root for point 4. & 5. and I put Custom ROM for point 1. 2. & 3.
But this time, I´m not so hurry

Same here. I have rooted to solve memory management issue but dont really fancy putting a CM rom on it. Will wait until there is a stable oxygen rom I think

I will wait also. Hopefully more CM13 mods will come and improve performance in general.

I got it since 2 days and was very surprised on easy unlocking bootloader and rooting. ROM seems stable and quick enough. I assume that I will wait for an Android N port before I change to a custom ROM. Has someone an idea if there are already devs on the way to cook N-ROMs for different devices?

Same here, only rooted it for the memory fix, OOS have everything I want

I will for sure flash RR and Bliss Flashing Roms is why i bought this device.

I haven't even rooted - but I am quite happy with Oxygen 3, feel no great urge to customise or get CM etc installed. I really like it.
Does Android Pay still work on your device??

Thought I was the only one.
No intention of rooting at the moment.
Have a few apps for work that need a stock phone, plus banking apps etc.
But yep OOS3 seems to have everything with nova launcher.

Same here, OxygenOS is awesome so far, but I rooted for Xposed.

Those that have been flashing roms for 3+ years pretty much get tired of doing it and want all stock. New people get excited about flashing new roms and do it for 3+ years until they end up getting tired too

Valid points for staying on OOS, it's a good rom that has most all customizations I need and the rest I can get with xposed...
Thing is do you EVER plan on flashing a rom? My answer is of course so I decided to go ahead and decrypt (format data) now as opposed to later after I have all my music, etc loaded on.
Running Grarak's CM13 swimmingly.

Well in my case, I've been flashing rom's for 8 years. This is the first device I've not felt the need out of the box.

+1 here. I've been rooting phones for 5+ years as soon as I got them. But now, I'm wondering if I even need to bother.

Yeah, this is hard one. Thanks devs for quickly coming up with root, unlock, custom, and tweaks. Not sure if rooting is needed. I think we can all agree, if you want more out of the devices, you quickly root. For some reason, that's not necessary for one+3. I'm pretty sure we will get bored and devs will come out with super awesome Roms in the near future with many added tweaks. But this phone is solid. Might need a month's of stock rom usage and more arising issues before I will jump to rooting. Great device no complaints..

Yes also for me. Great Rom and the first time that I don't want to change the rom!
Gesendet von meinem SGP511 mit Tapatalk

I agree, I actually like this stock, I got pretty much everything I need, iI will just miss flashing nightlies but I won't miss all the down time and missed text messages

Been flashing ROMs for 6 years now, always running cm, and I have been seriously considering given oos a few days before flashing, but also I'm to used to cm

I'm waiting for Multiboot/Dualboot patch...keeping Stock-Rom on first "partition" and Custom-ROM on second...

Many times I've read here that people have problems with either WIFI, GPS or SMS on the custom roms, that why I still stick with stock rom.
Never tried it but I hear the jellyaosp rom hasn't been giving people any problems.

Is this ROM smoother than stock? Or just added functions?
the kernel is modded and some system/apps are deleted. So this rom is smoother, faster and less batteryconsuming then stock.
I've been using Omar's for the past months, until I needed a more reliable phone (for work). Then I started from Stock and Deodexed (so I could have volume rockers to skip songs), Deblurred (took off all Motorola bloatware), Rooted and Patched ADB (for using adb remount, adb root etc).
It's as stable as it can gets. I lost 2-3 hours learning how to get stuff done, but it worth it.
About Omar's M7, it's great! However, it's still under heavy development. The guy is tweaking the kernel, which is pretty volatile. It may be good for you, it may not.
If you want "stability", I recommend going my way: Stock, then make the modifications you want.
If you want beta shiny new features, wait a lil' longer because right now all the XT890 hacker dev guys (like Omar) are trying to get CyanogenMod ported to our device! And they made very good progress in the past couple days. Its coming lol

Don't use Omar's Rom! It's extremely crappy, laggy, slow and full of errors and you will have to update your Rom every two days and get new problems!
I would recommend the Stock Rom,
or much better: PiLama Rom 1.6, It's complete, nothing needs to be done, it's extremely fast and absolutely reliable.
If you want you can also do the debloater from the infiniRom on it, than you have a superswift system which will outcompete highend smartphones when it comes to felt speed, and also you have more privacy without the Motorola tracking apps.

I think Omar has done an excellent job, maybe it's unstable, but it's becuase he's the one that has put the most effort into porting things that nobody else has in their ROMs.
Don't critic his hard work, you don't even know how hard it is. And he's always improving it.

That's exactly what I stated. It's an experiment, you should only install Omar's ROM if you are willing to beta test it. The same goes for the CM10.1 that is coming, it's coming with loads of bugs and random crashes, and the devs expects us to test it and report in the most detailed way to make it better.
Beta testing is not for the faint-hearted.
I didn't download PiLama so I cant say anything about it. But if it's just the Stock ROM "debloated", it should be good stuff. If the developer says it's stable, then it must be. Omar never said his was stable

Yikes. Omar has done amazing things with our phone, and has been kind enough to share. He has many stable versions of his rom, no need to hate.
Sent from my XT890 using xda app-developers app
I've tried all of them and so far i can tell you this:
There isn't a really noticeable difference between all the roms, however they do have it's pros and cons.
Pi-llama is faster but it drags battery like the stock
Stock is stable but not very efficent
Omar's rom is fast and with a very good battery life, but crashes a lot
AIO mod is a little bit faster and with better battery life than stock and stable so far.
It really depends on how do you use the phone, my advice is that you root and deodex the stock and see how the phone works, if you want to make a small improvement start with AIO, if that doesn't do it for you go to pi.llama and if you want to have a really good performance try omar's but be aware of the several crashes.
Everyone is making a great job with their roms, it's up to you to support them so we can have even better software for our phone.

If none of the current data ia needed, then a nice clean full format to the New bootloader would be a good choice.
Use the AIO tool in the Developers section to format the phone to default new bootloader. you can follow the choices to install recovery, and download your choice of Rom.
The most stable and fully featured out of the newer roms are only the CM 10.1 roms. anything made later have camera and bluetooth issues.
Pengus has his own, Look ma no hands. its an excellent rom. along with his M1 kernel. its the latest you'll get to fully stable.
If you'd like more features, Tonyp made a T-build version 5 currently. use the same kernel from pengus again M1. and give that a go if you like customizing a bit more.
there are later roms. and they are all great, but they are still in development, with many bugs still to really work out.
you can also go Stock and try out the few very well made custom stock roms i believe there are 3 different dev's that have done work on ICS and did an excellent job of it.
Or you can stay on the old boot loader, and stick with GB if you really want to stretch out the battery life, and have every feature working.
the first few pages of the dev section would have everything I've just mentioned. but you could also use the Search for anything your having trouble with.
PM me also if you need more detailed assistance.

New battery can do miracles. LG stock battery is highly recommended.

[q] not a single good rom ?

IS there any good roms for this phone seriously ?
every rom i try has alot of bugs and problems and devs release updates every 6 months and most of them drop the development for the phone anyway
i cant find a single rom that combines performance with battery without sacrificing the LED notification abilities !!!
I've seen comments saying "the best rom" in every rom OP
If 'you' don't like it, it's your view. But don't ask for the best rom as its a violation of xda rules. I hope you get my point and I'm not being rude.
There are many great roms out there, try them for a week or so and then see what's good and what's not, help the dev by reviewing it honestly(not being biased like 'this rom is nothing like xyz rom') this way the dev will help you get a better rom.

First off - respect others work. Everyone puts a lot of effort in the ROMs.
1. The ROMs for SP are nearly bugless, only stock based ROMs have stock Sony bugs.
2. Of course - updates are released every 6 months - how is that possible if PA, AOKP, PAC, FXP CM are weekly-built, and we also have daily-built CM nightlies. Also who dropped support for a ROM? Last time it happened for OmniROM. After that no one dropped ROM support.
3. All ROMs for SP are nearly on par when it comes to battery and performance.
4. You can get the illumination bar features with Illumination Reciever + Illumination Bar Notification apps
5. Why do you put these exclamation marks in your sentences?
try PA or PAC, smooth, fast , great battery life and stable
2 words: thread reported
please respect the work of others and be patient
Also according to the XDA Rules asking for "What is the best ROM" is not allowed here
~~ Regards
hahahahaha you people are being aggressive and rude and i didnt say the "Best" anywhere i said a good rom
and no there are no good roms and i have used every single rom in the development thread and i know every developer and because i respect them i didnt mention their names but i know everyone who doesnt release a single update and leaves the rom to rot or just drops the whole development
everyone is just sensetive when it comes to respecting developers

4. Okay, I can agree, but it's proprietary Sony technology so it can't really be used in CM without weird tricks.
3.Stock is pretty fast starting from .205 update. Eat battery? It depends on that how you flash the ROM, I can easily get 3-4+ hours screen on time.
2. I won't even comment about that, your ignorance totally killed me.

I tried AOKP, PAC, PA, CM10.2, CM11, Stock odexed and deodexed, and also ExistenZ from the first version(based on 4.1.2). So yeah, I didn't try them.
Well, looking at your posts I thought you were dirty flashing from stock to CM11 and other ROMs, because with your issues it's impossible that you clean flashed everything.
And about the developers and their work - they can't do that, why? Because people like you will complain about no updates, bugs and no support...

Well, you wrote the correct steps earlier, but you didn't include formatting /system, so in the flashing process some files were left intact thanks by updater-script backuptool.
Anyway, it's not just about the correct or incorrect way. It just seems like a user mistake for me...
Let's end this discussion now, I don't want to fight with anyone about why custom ROMs on their phones perform worse than for happy majority.

Wiping battery stats is completely useless step.
Yes, happy majority on(for example) CM/PA/PAC that enjoys the smoothness, stability and battery life of these ROMs(ofc you will argue about that these ROMs have no updates, no support, ppor battery life and performance, but as I said, the discussion about that is ended).

I dont even know why we are wasting our time on you...Pls buy another phone, leave us alone. However, I doubt that even the note 3 will be good for you,as you are lost in space and time.eXistenz was updated 1/7/2014,that was 1 month and almost 2 weeks ago,not 3 months. The reason it wasnt updated is that there is no reason for it to be updated at the moment. The illusion that you put yourself in is false and broken,as only ROMs which arent complete need updates every day,or if they added new features. All stock based roms give you the latest SONY UI,and if you dont like them,SONY isnt the right company for you.None of us notice lag on it,or on any custom rom.I dont know what your complex brain expects from a phone this good.If you arent satisfied, try unlocking the bootloader, and installing FXPCM11,that rom is blazing fast, but the bootloader unlock is the price for it.I am honestly using NexusCM11,and it is fast and smooth as butter.try following install instructions completely, and the ROMs wont lag.You cant just pop a thread, with a goal of insulting people who do much more for their property than you.If you think they all suck, you can make one yourself,so we can admire your ambitions. But the bigger chance is simply that you can not be satisfied, even if someone gave you a xperia z2/galaxy s5/note 3 or the lg g3.You would always complain. But I have an idea!

How is Cyanogenmod on the Tab S?

I have a Tab S. Great for watching videos. Awful for everything else.
I've been thinking of modding it with Cyanogenmod. And especially to get rid of those capacitive keys on the bezel, worst design decision ever on a tablet.
What is the status of CM on the Tab S? Is it noticably faster? Better? Worth the trouble?
I'm horrible at modding tablets. Last one took me like 4 hours. What is the best distro and method?

I can't speak on the how long it would take to install or anything like that, but based on the CM11 thread in the Galaxy Tab S General section, it seems like its flying and is working very well.
Development for CM is getting some progress, but I would wait till most things on it are almost bug free or at least when its stable is when I would install it. I believe you have to install the kernal and rom with twrp? Personally Im not going to install it since it deals with a custom kernal. Im fine with installing custom roms but installing custom kernals is what scares me since this is my first android tablet. As if now im on stock rooted rom (with debloated and frozen apps)and I get about 8 hours on just watching youtube.
Flashing a custom kernel is no different than flashing a custom ROM. You install a ZIP file through CWM or TWRP. The risks involved are the same. Flash the wrong file and your tablet is a shiny paperweight.
Ceep cool, guys. Flashing is no rocketscience.
Rule of thumb: as long, as you don't flash a recobery image, you always can go back to recobery (from where you can restore your nandroid) - even if you destroy your recoverypartition, you can go in donwloadmode and reflash a recovery from odin. Making a paperweight of your tab by flashing a costumrom (which inderd contains a non-sammy kernel) is quite unlikely.
So go ahead. Knox will be broken permanently - but there are quite a lot threads.

Thanks for that! But what would happen if odin cant flash stock back on. Like some people had some error in which they needed a pit file so odin can flash a rom on a device. How would you get a pit file?

You are right. "quite unlikely" implies it's still possibble the some people can do something and some devices have afterwards some errors... For sure: you van brick and even hard brick devices - but it's unlikely, if you do your homework (reading, reading and reading... ). If you don't feel comfortable after research, stay away from flashing. 'Cause - again: youmare right - it is possinle to hard brick an expensive device.

Im fine with flashing with twrp. Its just odin is what i stay away from. I still have my stock rooted rom backup in twrp. Its just the backup has a messed up hosts file in which google servers are blocked. So everytime i restore to my backup i have to download root broswer from the internet browser and delete the hosts file.
Waitin for multirom to be non stocknkernel usable..then illl test cm11
Ok but what about performance CM11 vs stock? CM11 is better? I hate LagWiz.. it's incredibly irritating especially i have LG G2 withCM11 that works fine and really smooth. I'm afraid of knox flag but I'm ready to risk if CM11 change my Tab S and let me forget about lags.

I only LagWiz is anoying install Novalauncher or any other third party launcher and delete sammy Launcher with Titanium.
If you want the fullcm-expirience: go for cm. It's development, mic broken, and some other issues (hey, there is a thread where progress on this cm is discussed), but its quit stable and fast. And its true cm.

Whatever the android related question might be - the answer is nearly always: first you need your device rooted...
Yes you need root for uninstalling system apps.
For cm you need a costum recovery, and cm comes rooted.

Probably on klimtwifi and chagallwifi - but not on chagallwifi. Thats one of the main issues. The sound implementatikn seems to differ on all the 5420 devices.
BTW: Thanx for your work on kimt wifi. From my point of view it lools like crpalmer (cm picassowifi maintainer) started from your work, and I started from picassowifi... So: Thanx.
I had to rewrite a chunk of the audio primary hal and created a mixer_paths.XML from scratch. It even involved some printk love in the kernel to figure out what the kernel driver was expecting. Probably some of the toughtest (though all entertaining) part of the port for me.
If you have questions I might be able to help.

I totally understand the distance thing. I got lost in getting the initial port up. Probably took me close to 80 hours over the period of three weeks. I now restrict myself to checking the forums twice a week and one night a week coding on the port.

It will be really great to see a cm port for the 8.4inch lte model as well.your port for the wifi was really popular.
Honestly, tab s has one of the better hardware out in the marke.but TW is quite another matter.
i dun see any cm in the forums to make me wanna trip that knox crap. and i am holding out for the xperia z3 compact tablet.the pces on that on is comparable with the tab with only the screen losing out.
I find it quite astonishing to read so often about the horrible experiences with the tab s. Maybe im living in a parallel universe, as i love the tab s, and i havent even debloated it yet.
Sure there are micro stutters, but much less then on my iPad 4. The screen is great and everything else is working flawlessly for me... even the apps are nearly on par with iOS. I wont go back,
thats for sure... just wonder whats up with all those complains.

AOSP here? No wait... There???

I ask this because we are now in December. I have recently fired up an old Z1 and want to breathe new life into it. So I have been looking around for a while now. A few things I gathered.
: Sony supports custom roms and supplies everything needed for a rom.
: fxp.co makes roms but they have been inactive since October, does this mean their latest rom is stable?
: Sony have released some camera stuff yesterday but nobody has come forward and said they will take it and build with it.
Everything seems dead and as if no one wants to build further. I don't know how to build otherwise I would of done it my self by now and shared it.
Is this device dead? Is there someone who knows what they are doing going to release a build? I'm still on stock waiting for my first AOSP build to flash.
Coming from a motorola (Moto G 2014) that has a million roms build a day. This is weird for me to not have a rom to flash and use as a DD.
I'm coming off as a snotty kid here I know. I just want to flash some AOSP's... So thats the question... Are there any AOSP's that can be flashed and used as DD?
Thanks for at least trying to read this... Pece
Yeah it is a little dead around here unfortunately hahaha. I've tried all the CM/AOSP ROMs and from my experience almost all of them are good as daily drivers with no issues with the exception of the Marshmallow one currently being worked on.

So whick ROM do you suggest then?
On FXP they have this one : AOSP_L_MR1_151203_honami... I guess that is the latest one with the camera thingy that was published. 151203 means 3rd of Dec 2015. Right???
I guess I should just download and flash and answer my own questions
Thanks

Yea it does.
Up to you man, I personally just grab CM12.1 off the nightlies website http://www.cmxlog.com/12.1/honami/ and maybe also flash M5 kernel on there, which you can find in the development section.
I just want to say... I've been at it for about 4hours now... This is harder than I expected. I finally have a AOSP rom. FXP latest build... Finally have TWRP recovery... About to flash open g apps stock package... I hope it all goes well... This is way harder than the hundreds of other android phones I've done this with.
Edit : It seems that cyanogenmod is the only stable ROM I could get past setup with. After I installed Gapps. I installed Aroma Gapps and selected the apps I use. The Gapps run perfectly and Google camera seems to be pretty good and taking full 20mp shots. I'm impressed with CM12.1. It runs good. After doing an antutu benchmark to see if the performance is close to stock I see that it ,"Benched", Way more that stock. 43288 is my score on Antutu. I know bechmarks tell half a story but it seems to tell an interesting one... It seems CM12.1 is really great and with the Gapps I'm getting my ,"stock android", feels anyhow.
This was the toughest device for me to get a working custom ROM with. There should be a new thread detailing how, late 2015. To get a custom ROM working.
AOSP with FXP in no good for actual use. CM12.1 is really good.
I answered my own questions I wanted details too. I'll be using this CM12.1 Xperia Z1 as my DD and see if it works.

The first thing to do to stop projecting the image of a snotty kid is to read original development thread. You may surprise yourself finding plenty of custom roms including CM, Paranoid, Slimrom, DU and others. You can find kitkat and both versions of lollipop and every time custom roms were several months ahead of stock.
So, don't be shy and read.

I think this is a little harsh, flashing a new device can be quite overwhelming, especially if the forums are as inactive as they are here in the Z1 section.
But OP, there is a super long thread pinned about flashing and rooting for newcomers, you should check that out.

Little harsh? I don't think so. I don't appreciate it when freeloaders complain, especially when they don't know what they are talking about. The guy wasn't asking questions on how to flash, he basically came in and proclaimed that there are no custom roms for Z1, everything is dead and he is waiting for the first custom rom to flash. He clearly didn't bother to read and discover a multitude of custom roms for Z1. And by making that ridiculous statement, he has insulted everybody who contributes to Z1 development..
And by the way, what does "dead" mean? Inability to have updates twice a day? Lollipop has just recently became stable and marshmallows won't get there for at least a year. Plus, I am not sure that M is worth the effort: not much changed as compared to LP.

Yeah I agree with you, Lolipop is really good on the Z1, even if we do eventually get M I'm not sure it'll be worth the upgrade.

You miss understand. Let me explain. I went through all the custom roms threads. And I read the comments. The comments all speak of incomplete roms that have a major flaws in it. Camera not working is the main problem. I also did search the forum to figure out how to flash the Sony. The forum helped but it was scattered everywhere. Some solutions were not even in the Z1 page but in another Sony Xperia page. (The drivers not being accepted by newer windows) This thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2440565 would definitely come in handy, I must of over looked it.
I am sorry if you think I'm clueless to this. But I have had about 5 phones that I've flashed custom roms on. Motorola, HTC and samsung. All those phones were easy. The Sony is very complicated because I couldn't get into the recovery, after following instructions from Sony and on this forum. Using EMMA to flash the recovery, Pressing the right buttons. I could not get it to work... But with fastboot I kept trying and somehow got it to flash TWRP recovery. Allowing me to install CM12.1
Flashing the FXP AOSP roms was easy. But that rom didn't work. Neither did the Recovery that came with it.
I Just wanted to know how to get this AOSP that Sony bragged about. But in essence it doesn't exist. Not in a functional form for users.
And I think that was my biggest problem. Understanding that the AOSP thing is not for me. Or others that want it as a DD.
*Edit After reading the replies and felt the need to refreshen my story. I understand there are lots of Custom ROMS. The whole idea here was that I was looking for AOSP that all the articles talk about. Sony releasing AOSP build for their phones. But it isn't exactly the full story. I was just looking for these Sony AOSP Roms... But I did end up with CM12.1... I was thinking about trying this Jaguar one that is so active as well. I'm not trying to rip on the custom roms the community was working on. I was justy trying to find Sony's AOSP. I'm sure the Custom roms are great. And I will eventually find the perfect one for me.
