[Q] anyone experiencing overheat on new firmware. 238 - Sony Xperia X Performance Questions & Answers

Hi all
After installing the new firmware my telephone overheats, it begins to lag in games like Knights of pen and paper. Rayman always have small glitches.
Anyone else having this?

I'm on XP .227 and having overheating issues while using the camera. During games it's pretty fine.
But when recording for like 2 minutes the camera just shuts down due to overheating? Not really sure if it's the same bug. The front is pretty hot, the back is less hot.
Do you have any troubles while using the camera?

I've recorded 20 minutes straight, have never had overheating.

I don't have problems so far with the camera, have not yet been recording video, but I will try that out asap.
Another annoying thing is the touchscreen, sometimes it goes crazy and register my fingers way off...maybe software related.
I would rather wait another month or two and get a brilliant phone..

oh the touch screen drives me crazy, the Z series didn't have this problem! typing is so difficult on this phone it is a joke, I guess I can hold out for another update until they fix this or I sell this phone

Mine doesn't have this problem, might be the screen and not software.

Yeah me too.. and i probably won't buy a phone with qualcomm CPU in the future
The SD820 is even worse than SD801
I can't even play hitman go while listening to music, it laags like hell.
This should be the fastest processor on the market...
Mine gets hot, battery lasts like the z3. Probably my last Sony phone also, I have had Sony since the arc.
I am disappointed

I have recently updated to the. 238 and the camera doesn't heat up much as before. Gets warm, but not hot.
My main issue is stamina mode has been ruined and instead of my regular 54hrs at 100% battery, I now get 27hrs with the. 238.
Battery to me is everything, thats why i was very happy with my Sony Xperia x performance.
But not anymore.
Also i just checked, my batt was at 70% i tried turning off stamina mode to see how much the change would be, ONE HOUR difference with stamina mode on!
ONE!
VERY ANNOYED!

I got my X performance yesterday....
Immediately I updated it to 35.0.A.1.238 firmware... and did a factory reset
after startup, I noticed the phone heating up slowly to a point where it felt uncomfortable to hold in hand...
so it stopped all restoration from my old xperia, turned off the wifi and everything and put in on charging in Stamina mode....
after 2hrs the phone was good ...no over heating & then continued with the rest of the process...
so all is well now...
any ways, as i did a factory rest I have lost all the pre-loaded Music, Video & wallpapers....
can any having those pre-loaded things, please share with me....
would really appreciate it......

Thinking of ditching.

As much as I like the 4X I am very disappointed with the battery life and the fact we cannot obtain root (well majority of us).
I keep looking at the Hong Kong version of the Meizu MX 4 core. Had a look at some reviews and un boxing vids and looks like a nice device. Has anyone ever used a Meizu device before? What are everyone's views on this?

I guess it depends what you want from your phone.
I am quite happy with the battery life and its definitely better after several cycles and the v10d update.
Couple of things struck me with the Meizu when compared to O4X though:
4.0" screen vs 4.7"
640 x 960 res vs 1280 x 720
No microSD slot
Micro SIM only
Personally don't like the design either, looks like a chinese iphone clone to me.
Of course it is each to their own though, everyone wants something different from their phones. I bought the O4X on the merits it has, that none of the other current flagships could give me.

I have the meizu mx 2 core, its a nice phone hardware wise.
screen is very good its almost 300ppi so no dif. really vs the LG phone.
sound in calls are very low even at highest setting.
sound from headphones and speaker is by far the best on any android phone with its wolfson chip.
but there is bad translations in english mode, u have to use locale apps to get right in maps and searches.
u have to install special apps to get into the "real menu" for sync accounts otherwise its flyme only.
almost all support is in chinese.
not much rom development on the device even if its the HK version.
if miui gets a release soon it might be good but i cant recomend it software wise.

Perhaps you have some battery eating app running?
I always have data off until I need it and WiFi only on when the screen is on and since v10d the phone drops about 2% battery overnight now.
Seems the saver core works really well in standby as that matches my sensation with a custom battery saver kernel.

sadly, i am starting to share the same opinion, NOT because of root options, but the functionality of the OS on this model.
it seems they handle sensors incorrectly, and without root, we cannot even try to fix it here.
- is it just me or is it very annoying that when you press power, it takes ages (2-3 seconds) before it responds and turn on the display? (when its in standby)
- when you hang up a call, is it just me or does the thing takes forever?, and the proximity sensor for turning on display when you move it away from your head, i know it can be modified, but why would LG have the delay soooo f.... long? HTC has none of these issues, its almost close to being tooo sensitive?

I don't have that kind of issue. Does it stay after a full wipe ?
I had a Gnote juste before the 4x HD. Every body was happy about Gnote battery life but not me. With to different Gnote under cyanogen, i had constant battery drain. I'm sure it was software, but i never found wich app was draining. For me, there was no way to have a full day without charging.
Lg 4x is working better for my usage. With green power, i lost maybe 1% during the whole night. The screen is far more responsive. Its seems to handle more precise finger position, build quality is top, size great, screen perfect.
Really a great little phone. i'm quite happy.

looking at your post, i did the test and gound that you are right! but it's been half a month since i got this phone, and i did notice it before i read it from your post... so there are no use case for me where it can be realy annoying, because we are always talking about 1 to 3 seconds!
also, mi old Galaxy S with CM9 isn't faster .
I am also waiting for root (battery life is ok for me since v10d although my wifi is on all the time), but since this phone is realy new, an not as popular as Samsung ans HTC's flagships, I know that it will take more time.

i had a Galaxy S too and still is within family reach and i do honestly not feel it was that bad. but yes we might be down to 1/2 a second, but the feel of this is a little annoying. but yes, i come to live it hoping i can fix it when its rooted but really, LG could have made it customizable. when they had to make it so strange.
everything here is fast, no delays, when calling, screen is intant on/off, also when the phone is laying around and i push the power button, i get nearly instant screen on ....
dunno why, i only have wiped the device before and after the 10D update

Are there any other reasons to jump ship?
Reviews talk about how far the display is from the screen? Is that bad?
Someone from LG told me that the 4XHD can record phone calls (when in conversation go to voicerecorder and start recording, you should hear a beep every 10 seconds orso). Can someone verify this? I know that the SGSII & III can't nor the One X.
Some reviews also talk about the phone being too quiet? How is the volume when ringing? When in a pocket or coat (in a pouch)?
How's in call audio? How's the earpiece audio?
I'm just wondering if when used as a phone the 4xHD is a better option then the OneX? The One X has a proper notification led which is bright unlike the one from the Xperia U (which the sales dip**** should have said before I bought the damn thing). The One X IS loud when playing music and video so assume it's as loud when ringing. The OneX's screen looks great. But it can't record calls which is important for me.
The price difference is about 30 euro's between OneX and 4xHD
Cheers.

OneX and 4xHD are both bad in terms of battery HOWEVER the 4xHD has a bigger and replacable battery.
Also 4xHD's screen is on par with the OneX and thereby the best I've seen to date. (Better than new iPad btw)
Had no issues with sound at all. Speaker is crystal clear (sometimes a bit too clear but still very good), didn't try the music with LG earpieces though. Other earpieces sounded good to me.
Volume of the ringtone... No idea. Didn't really care but haven't missed a call for now, so I suppose it's good enough.
4xHD also has an micro SD card slot (up to 64 gb) wich in my eyes is a huge advantage.
Plus I had nothing but good with LG so far.
You should only consider buying the OneX if:
You need the additional community support (LG will never attract as many devs however cyanogenmod will most likely be ported as soon as it's rooted. (Probably even officially supported))
You need the best camera in town (Except for Nokias 41 Mpix phone-camera of course)... read you need the fastest camera in town.
You need Sense. (LG's is more smooth and really (I mean REALLY REALLY) among the best, however it's just not as polished as HTC's)
You need Dropbox Space (You get Box.net space with LG I think. Too bad I don't really use that.) (OneX has up to 25gb for 2 years).
If you said no to one or all of the above:
Get the LG.
BTW For me Samsung S3 is a no no because of the design, the crappy touchwhizz and the worse screen in sunlight... But it does have the even larger community support and the supposedly less energy consuming processor.
Hey guys
Just to let you know if your having problems with the stock 4x then you can complain to LG about it. On their chat support you can ask to raise a VOC (voice of customer) then give them suggestions and improvements. When I talked to support the guy did try to help even though I don't have an optimus 4X.
I'm sure they'll try to help if they can.

[Q] Over Heating Issue

I am currently using a GNEX that is now almost 2 years old so i am due for a new phone. So far the Xperia Z is at the top of my list followed by the HTC One.
However there is one thing that bothers me about the Z. The overheating issues i have been hearing about.
To current Z owners. How bad is this issue and has Sony explained what is causing this and if they intend to fix it?
I don't think there is an overheating issue. The phone back gets a bit hot under certain conditions but never has it affected my use. I have a feeling it is due to the tight packaging of the phone and the use of glass which causes this, but I really isn't an issue. Don't let that scare you away from the phone.
Sent from my C6603 using Tapatalk 2
Yes, it is not a problem at all. Trust me. Also, I integrated the 3-phase thermal protection into my custom kernel and it works like a charm, keeping it cool all the time.
It does get warm rather quick but it is really only a warmth, not "hot". My old milestone 2 used to be permanently warm and quite hot when using it (especially internet use on 3g). My S2 was usually pretty cool, but got close to painfully hot when playing intensive games like modern combat. So far, the xperia Z hasn't got as hot as either of these phones for me.
The phone does get hot but only when using chrome so I'm sure its not an issue just a bug. I know that phones can get a little hot and I accept that but when I first experienced the heat coming from the top of the phone it was enough to worry me. I am however confident that it will be resolved so I'm not worried.
I really never heard that issue before...
Buy this and amaze

To be exact there is no such thing in the XZ as overheating. At least I did not hear of "overheating". Some phones tend to get a bit warmer during intensive tasks, but not excessive.
BTW, the difference between a bit warm and overheating is that overheating is actually a thermal "shock" that would usually lead to a restart of your device, or a smoking device.
well mine gets hot when i use the screen a lot. System Tuner shows me that the cpu gets up to 49 degrees. I'm really thinking of buying Cooler Master 212 for the cpu I'm really concerned about the cpu life.

Hi,
Just thought i would let you know. I had my Xperia Z three weeks. On sunday it was on charge and my phone rang. I took it off charge and answered the call.
The screen was extremely hot then it cracked in my ear. There are a few others that i know of on sony forums who reported this issue but Sony are refusing to replace my phone saying its not a "manufacturing issue".
Im left without a phone and starting legal action against them.

I also happen To have this issue, my phone gets got to the point it hurts my skin! I even use a case and the case gets really hot too
When i play S.surfers for about 45 minutes I see that the game doesn't run smoothly.Eventually the display also becomes warmer and that results that the display does not respond properly on my fingers.

Banned from sony forum for saying t has heat issue

Does anyone else think that this is stupid. First I create a topic that the t has issues and decided to tell them about one of the experiences I had from sony customer support. It was horrible, they lied in front of my face because I told her the t has heat issues and she said this has not been reported. I then gave her 5 different topics on sony xperia forum and in the forum they said that they will report it. She says there are no reports about it. I then express how disgusted I was about this dangerous phone. And then they ban me. Then they send me an email about I said an xperia play had heat issues when I clearly said xperia t and in the email she said she telephoned me. WHAT? I have not given any number to sony. I urge everyone to not buy a sony phone. No wonder why they are bankrupt.

Well I don't like Sony's customer service all that much either I've owned a couple of Xperia's and I've never enjoyed talking to them but on aanother
Note
Yes the Xperia T gets hot but to me that's not an issue it has over heat controls built-in so try not to worry so much about it.
I don't care the overheat control does not do anything and my phone smells like its going to burn the back off and the phone destroys sd cards. I thought overheat control would prevent this but it doesn't
Sent from my LT30p using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Sony customer service in my opinion is horrible. My Xperia T worked perfectly for 5 months and then i got a screen with White dots issue. I sent it to the repair center and after 3 weeks i got it back with no accelerometer! I mean that the accelerometer was not detected by the phone and the screen was always vertical with some random rebooting. I sent it back to those idiots and after a week at the repair center they replaced the motherboard and now the screen turns black and doesn't turn on, it happens 4 or 5 times per day, forcing to soft reset the phone... It happens randomly and after flashing other firmwares and "repairing" with PC Companion i didn't solve the issue. I called Sony Xperia Care several times and i sent them an email asking for a new device and finally they told me that this time they'll give me a NEW device.
I mean maybe i got very unlucky but it's unbelievable that they f***** up with the repair twice!! We're talking about Sony, not an unknown chinese brand... I just want a working device! The T is a good phone according to me but i don't think i will buy another Xperia after this experience.

Either all xperia t's have overheating problem or just mine but whatever. I can get this f****r up to about 38c within 10 minutes of switching on. I will show you how it happens. First switch the phone on, then turn wifi and gps on only, auto brightness then click on the internet browser and browse some pages. This is with stock rom as I cannot unlock the bootloader. Try it it shows the heat problems with the phone and you will see. Sorry for swearing but no other way to describe it.

The only time i have had worries about my phone heating up was running either CM10.1 at one point, or Petres Rom when he change some stuff.
i never have issues normally, so i would say your phone is faulty, and possibly a few others out there, but it's certainly not a major issue with all T's
Just to add my few cents on this subject.
If by "overheating" you mean temperatures about 40 degrees, then I guess it is totally normal behavior, when doing some heavy tasks.
I am also using stock 4.1.2, and I'm not experiencing any abnormal overheating. Yes, sometimes it gets a little bit warmer when browsing the web with Chrome, but it is tolerable. For example, it gets about 40 degrees when I'm playing game for a long time, but never goes much higher than that. Just today I was playing Frontiers for a few hours, charging battery two times today already, and it never got hotter than 40-42 degrees.
Honestly, my last phone, Xperia Arc S, was getting much much hotter on heavy gaming than Xperia T gets now. So I'm not panicking about this at all. Either you're not used to this kind of phone behavior, or maybe your unit is faulty to some extent.
I know 40 is pretty normal but getting it in 10 minutes of switching phone on is not

So, you're asking ME how? Ask Sony developers, and hardware manufacturers. Also, you got several threads in Arc forums about heating, so you can check them any time you want. Also, the point of my post is that every phone nowadays is having "heating" issue, as people describe it. I think there are "overheating" threads on 90% of Android devices, here on XDA. Tiny devices, packing powerful processors, with almost no cooling, ofcourse these will get hot with heavy overload. Now back on question, I don't have my Arc S anymore, but I remember that area where cpu is placed tends to be so warm that it's unpleasant holding your finger there. To repeat again, much much hotter than on T.
It is just sony which is the problem. Xperia z1 people said was overheating it goes up to 50c! Galaxy note 3 and lg g2 never get to 50c and all have same processer, same ram (note 3 3gb ram) and they don't get to 50c. This is a lot of owners which have this problem

I don't know then. Maybe Sony is heating more than others. I can't really say since I never used any other Android device beside Sony. I know that there are dozens of similar threads on many other devices forums.
All in all, only thing that could make me go away from Sony, is lazy update policy. First with X10, then with Arc S, and now with T. My patience with Sony is coming close to point of no return. I would never switch Sony hardware+design for some other brand, but customer "care" is killing Sony, year after year.

different chip sets, hardware, command lines etc even if you think the chip set is the same as its labelled the same it could well be different its more complicated than that ... take the galaxy ace some CPU's i could get to overclock to 1.4GHz where as others would make 1.2 and alot wouldnt even make that (i have had 8 ace's myself and have modded around 30 for friends who just didnt like the samsung stock) just comparing clock speeds and things like that for example i have a pc with a single core GHz intel processor and a pc with a dual core intel processor at GHz (so that's equivalent of GHz) ..... on that the dual core should get hotter but it gets to around 25 and sits there almost no matter what i throw at it where as the 3.7 single core regularly reaches up to 45 when its just playing a song not even doing anything hard really ..... have tested this on xp, 7 and ubuntu all with the same results ..... going back to the mobile phone my arc s used to reach 42 with heavy use and my T reached around 38 so im not worried about the heat

I know 40 is pretty normal but getting it in 10 minutes of switching phone on is not

I do not agree. If I do what you described in one of your previous posts, my V will reach easily 40 C. Especially the GPS sensor is a relevant mA consumer. The power it consumes will be generating heat. The same happened when I was applying a new ROM, the first day the phone was unpleasant warm to hot.
But mine does not smell when hot. If your's does then that would be an easy case to demonstrate live to a customer service person, and the way how you write it, it seems this is easy to replicate. Then why do you bother with quarrelling with them on the net? What do you think, how many people come around a customer service every day with nothing more than a hot fart?
Unless you come up with some new aspects, I am not intending to write any more than that to the issue.

[Share] One battery drain & heat caused by obstructed vibration motor

I would like to share a few things I just found out on my One. This is rather weird IMO.
I have 3 months old HTC One M7 801e 32 GB
For these last 3 days I've been trying to troubleshoot my One that has been draining its battery unusually fast(like 1% per 2-3 minutes) and also it constantly heat up (above 39.5 deg c) under normal use (like when texting). One will cool down once it enter deep sleep. Power saving mode makes no difference.
Camera purple tint also appears when my One overheats. When it cools down purple tint disappears. A new discovery for me
First thing I thought there must be some rogue apps hogging up system resource, so to isolate the problem I disabled all recently installed and used Gsam, battery monitor, etc to see what could be draining the battery. Alas I have no luck, major resource percentage is attributed to Androh'd system. The phone also went to deep sleep most of the time when screen is off.
CPU usage is also low, maxed at 30% but the battery still discharges like there is no tomorrow.
Based on above observations I concluded the battery must be faulty.. I mean no cpu usage but battery heating and draining like crazy.
I'm about to do the htc various hw test using *#*#3424*#*# and I just happened to know VIBRATION is not working. Tried to restart, power cycle, letting it cool down. Nothing works.
I said to myself, I'll be darned, faulty battery, purple tint camera and faulty vibration motor.. a lemon One, duh.
This is the weird part, I listened to my One real close when the vibration test is running and I heard a kind of 'click clack' sound during vibration test toggle.
If you have seen a vibration motor it's basically a motor with unbalanced weight that produces vibration when it's turning.
The click clack sound is similar when the weight cannot turn because it's being obstructed.
Out of frustation I jerked the phone somewhat hard and guess what? The vibration starts working again!
More surprise, the bat temperature dropped.. and the phone battery draining spree appear to stop. I'll post an update if this is really the case. Need more time to conclude something definitive.
My best guess is the vibration motor being obstructed induced the battery draining and overheat.
Anyone has got similar experience? Got more thoughts?
Some note:
You may think the faulty vibration motor must be caused by I'm being careless.
But I take care of my phone, it survived a few drops (like 2-3 times from new), nothing serious though. A few light drops I dare say.
If it's really is a lemon too bad I can't return my One even if it's faulty since consumer protection is very weak in my country. Basically you buy something from me, your money is mine and you are on your own. There is official manufacturer warranty but god knows how sloppy are the local technicians (repair typically cause more problems) and how long will it took (think about 1 month backorder)
Sorry for the long rant, I think my experience is somewhat interesting. So I thought it's a good idea to share it.
I have the same issues on my one and still couldn't get the vibration motor to work , could you please tell me exactly how did you get the vibration to work ?!

Err.. like I said, I jerked/shaked my HTC One somewhat hard. I do NOT recommend doing so, as you may damage the phone. In fact I was doing that on sheer frustation
first come first, try to power cycle, also make sure power saver is not turned on--it disables vibration by default.
Well.. to be completely honest it took a few more jerking before the vibration got fully working again (you don't hear this from me).
For what it's worth ever since vibration started to work again, battery drain/high temp problem also stopped. Thank goodness.
I see , I can hear it working but kinda stuck inside, I guess I will have it repaired by HTC .
Thank you

Wow so it was not only me.
Did you also hear very faint 'click-clack' coming from your phone?
If your One is still covered under warranty, that's should be the wisest choice. Best wishes!
Yeah I hear that as well. Unfortunately no warranty , will live with that I guess .

How will Sony combat their heat issue??

I have been offered a good deal on a Z3+ here in the UK.
I had the Z3 for a while, and I liked it quite a bit. the Z3+ looks good but I'm worried about the heat issue. I'm willing to wait till they fix it but my question is more of a curiosity.
Oneplus are using the 810, and they have said that they will under clock the CPU in order to keep temperatures low. Will Sony also do this, or can they stop the issue through tweaks?
I'm just looking for a discussion that will settle my mind and the mind of other Sony fans.
Cheers

I have the Z3+ for more then a week now and I havent experienced any overheating yet.
How good is your battery and is the pre-installed screen protector really just a regular screen protector that can be removed easily with the anti oil/fingerprint coating actually on the screen under the protector.?

What type of things do you do on your phone? Gaming or web browsing for long periods of time?

Yes both. I use my phone all day for all kinds of stuff.
The device CAN get warm when recording in 4K for long time or when playing large games but it doesnt get "hot". (I have this same "problem" with my Xperia Z so I am not that worried)

I am on first name basis with the store manager so should be able to test drive the phone for a few days. Thanks for your help hopefully I wont experience any issues.
Terrible first 2 days camera overheats even with new update . 24 as of July 2nd. Z3 was doing relative aa better job. Feeling stupid buying this so early. Don't want a Samsung just for ant+. Design is great.
Feeling Is hardware..... Issue
After using the camera for a few mins, I got a warning saying "camera app will close if phone overheats" or something along those lines. And it did after a minute.
I did the update as soon as I got it so I never tried the camera app with the software version that originally came with the phone . Just got the phone last night .
