error message while opening kernel and recovery
while opening recovery : recovery is not seandroid enforcing
while powering ON device: kernel is not seandroid enforcing
what does this mean ?

now rooted on Marshmallow G900H Exynos
Thank you! Works well on SM-G900H 6.0.1 Oct.1st 2016 security update on Android 6.0.1 with build G900HXXS1CPJ6

Can anyone help me please? I am unable to root my S5 900H which is on latest update 1 day ago 6.0.1 . I tried 4-5 times using ODIN but even after ODIN showing I was successful, the phone doesnt go into TWRP. i know i am doing something wrong but not sure where. Here is what i am doing.
1) Downloaded TWRP recovery (3.0.2 and even tried previous version 3.0)
2) Started ODIN 3.09 (also did on 3.12 latest)
3) Put Recovery.tar.md5 file in AP and clicked Start
4) Successful message confirmation and phone reboots itself
5) Vol Up + Home + Power button and it goes into Default Android recovery.
6) Knox meter shows 1 instead of 0
So what am i doing wrong? Could it be my USB cable? its not original, but ODIN recognizes the phone and says successful at the end.

When you in Odin, go to Option and uncheck the "Auto Reboot", then flash the recovery... after Odin say it is Successful e to then u have to pull off the battery and put it back again and turn on the phone and go to recovery mode... this way works on mine. Hope that help.

Totally. Sm-n920r4 is a great device though. Currently using it with a verizon sim. Wish i could get lte though, cant wait until theur lte roaming agreement takes hold

I got mine rooted.. It's not an official way, but I did manage to have root access..
Forgot to add device information screen..
I am curious to know how you managed to obtain root? Does it break things since it isn't an official way?

Wouldn't boot if it had broken hardware or ruined the flash. Depending on the recovery until an official root is out we just can't flash ROMS. I just want to get root for now!

2. Install the Samsung Drivers.
3. Unlock Flashing Capability ***IMPORTANT***
If you do not enable the following setting, you will brick your device!!!
Go to settings - About Device - Software Info - You will see "Build Number" - Tap repeatedly on build number to unlock developer options. You will now see Developer options in settings (just above about device).
Open Developer options and Enable OEM Unlock. Go ahead and enable USB Debugging as well.
4. Flash custom recovery.
TWRP has not been ported over as of yet to our model. The only option is PhilZ by arter97.
Use Odin V3.10.7 to flash the downloaded recovery.
Switch off your Note.
Get into download mode by pressing Vol Down+Power+Home until the download window pops up. Press Volume Up to continue to download mode. Connect your phone to the computer. Press the AP button in Odin and browse to the downloaded PhilZ Recovery.
MAKE SURE YOU DO NOT CHANGE ANY OPTIONS IN THE OPTION TAB! I have included a screenshot of how it looks unchanged.
Press the Start button and it will flash the recovery to your phone. After completion, Odin will automatically restart the phone. To get into recovery press Volume Up+Home+Power for a few seconds and you will get to the new recovery.
5. Flash Custom Kernel
Use the same instructions as step 3 but instead of the recovery you will now be selecting the SpaceX Kernel. Once again, do not change any settings in the options tab.
6. Now flash Beta SuperSU 2.49 from recovery.
7. MAKE AN EFS (IMEI) BACKUP.
Please take the time to thank the following people:
@dr.ketan for his original guide HERE.
@arter97 for his port of the PhilZ Touch Recovery HERE.
@mahn_IT for his SpaceX Kernel HERE.

Disregard - I was using odin 9 - went to 10 and it worked! Didnt think that would matter
Thanks guys, this worked for me as well! I was having some random reboots with the SpaceX N920P v0.1 kernel, but when I tried SpaceX N920R4 v0.1 it would hang on the US Cellular boot screen, and SpaceX N920R4 v.02 would boot but not detect the SIM card.
Last night I flashed Freeza's Beastmode Kernel for SM-N920P and so far I haven't had any reboots or stability issues. It seems to have better performance and battery life as well, but it might just be in my head.
I don't know if there are any negative side effects of using SM-N920P kernels on our SM-N920R4 phones so flash it at your own risk, but it's working great for me. I just wanted to share my experience since there doesn't seem to be a good place to find information on our devices yet.

hay guys i just got mine sm-n920r4.. i am having a hard time finding phil recovery for this model. need help please need root asap
Rooted.
everything you need to root this device is at a site but i am new and cant post linkshttp://cdn2.xda-developers.com/images/smilies/frown.gif
Here's the steps I went through, I can tell it's a lot more steps than necessary but this is how I was able to get root + custom recovery on the latest update:
Okay guys, after a lot of hesitation I decided to attempt root and recovery, and was successful without any visual knox warnings.. There's not many clean guides here on this site so I'm posting the steps I went through.. first and foremost, enable usb debugging and OEM unlock.
For root, follow the guide here (note you'll get a sammy notification that your/you're device is rooted, turn that off. You'll also get a few odd reboots directly after odin resets your/you're phone, that's normal):
https://androidmtk.com/root-samsung-galaxy-note-5-sm-n920r4
After root you can use Skipsoft's Android Toolkit to install TWRP. *Make sure you follow the toolkits instructions closely.*
Link:*http://forum.xda-developers.com/not...lkit-skipsoft-android-toolkit-galaxy-t3399829
And for Xposed to work on our stock rom we obviously need the custom version that can be found here (ARM64 version):

Then you did something wrong / different, that's the method I use, and most other people use
Did you use SuperSU 2.71 from here?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/supersu/2014-09-02-supersu-v2-05-t2868133
TWRP 3.0.0.0 like I suggested?
Boot back into recovery and flash that SuperSU
EDIT - It's been updated, I haven't tested 2.72

im recovering it as i type using smart switch its on 2 %
Of course it's compatible, that's what you asked, I'm running those exact versions with MM myself
This is the 2.71 SuperSU
Code:

No need to recover with smart switch, just flash the ROM again with ODIN
For beginner users, I recommend to use AnyRooter to root Galaxy s5 as it's much easier to go with. No much hassle involved.

Introduction:
Team Win Recovery Project, is a custom recovery built with ease of use and customization in mind. You can change just about every aspect of the look and feel.

Is there a way to directly reboot in recovery mode from download mode...? When I reboot from download mode by pressing Volume UP + Volume Down + Power it starts in system boot which overwrites the twrp recovery by system default recovery.

then this Kernel : https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...velopment/kernel-refined-kernel-v1-0-t3675500

@Nekrofiili said rooting broke his camera and speaker, do you think it's because of wrong kernel?
Confirmed working on j530f/DS (dual sim)
Thank you!

Which method did you use? The process from the main post or the one posted by @ksa616 on flashing the kernel?

I just followed the instruction in the main post and no issue, no need to flash a different kernel
What version of stock ROM should already be installed for this Rooting instructions to work? I am currently using PDA J530FXWU2AQL4 and CSC J530FOJV2AQL1. Will this work?
Asking
This is work for Samsung J530Y?

Hello All
I followed this thread to root my J5PRO. But when I reboot the system, I get back to the TWRP project screen again and again.
What can I do to get my phone back to use? Could you assist ?
Many thanks

I experienced the same problem, so I had to re-install the stock firmware via Odin. Just look for the stock firmware on the internet (for your phone- mine is J530F), then download Odin and flash it. The process is straightforward and available on the internet, especially YouTube.
Good luck.
Problem with recovery, now Boot-loop
Followed the instructions
When I tried to backup the phone, the storage spaces were all 0MB.
Then obtained error:
' Could not mount /data and unable to find crypto footer'
Now phone is stuck on bootloop.

On j530F sometimes it has mount so you have to reboot recovery after some actions. At least for me

Hello there

Soft-bricked device - no idea how to proceed pls help

Hey guys,
so yesterday while modding my Note9 something failed and forced it into a bootloop,
it specifically happened while uninstalling a "remove status bar clock" mod in substratum (based on legit bought andromeda). However my phone now just bootloops and then forces either into recovery mode or another strange mode with fewer options (try again/ erase app data/ power off/ view rescue log).
My note9 is an unrooted exynos with the newest samsung firmware (April-patch) and boots up in encrypted mode btw.
I would so glad for any help or tips about how to fix this.
Cheers

Flash the latest offical stock ROM. Do you know how to do it using Odin? Also wipe the phone at the same time (by choosing the CSC-file, not the home_CSC and tick of "Nand erase" in Odin)

It is not rooted, so how am I supposed to do this? Isn't there a possibility to wipe apps through adb? so I can delete substratum and reboot normally?

No, you don't need root to flash stock ROM.
If you think the app is the problem, you can try to start the Note in safemode by holding the volume down button when starting the phone. (You have to hold it from the Samsung logo appears to the phone has booted up) If your phone boots up fine, you can Uinstall it.

If safemode does not work, here is a guide how to flash:
ROM you can download using samfirmware.com or using samfirm software (I use it myself, it is much faster). Search it up on Google and you will find a link to xda where yoy can download it
