how to know when device connected to LTE advance? - Sony Xperia X Performance Questions & Answers

Just wondering how did we know that our devices connected to LTE advance? or where should i enable it. In Samsung S7 Edge the sign in the status bar will show 4g+ when its connected to LTE advance, and only 4G when it is on Normal LTE.
In Xperia device it is like always show only LTE sign without anything like LTE+, or it should be somewhere to enable it anyone has a clues? please show your screen capture if you able to connected to it and how Thank you

I only have 4G icon all the time, never seen 4G+. I don't know why. Maybe because there's no LTE advamced around.

I'm in Thailand and ww have 2 operators now support LTE-A which is TrueMoveH and AIS. attached is my TrueMoveH carrier with Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge you can see the plus sign just next to 4G means it is connected to 4G+ (4.5G LTEA whatever it called, but same tech of Carrier Aggregation AKA CA combine two band of 4g together to get the higher speed). Anyway speed wise for this post is slowww hahaha (notmally it is easily reach around 150-250mbps).
But my Xperia just show LTE and no any option to enable ot anywwhere so i would love for anyone to share in your country how it is looks when xperia x performance connected to 4G+ or any screen shot to enable it.

Do you have the Truemove Sim card in your S7E and an AIS Sim in your Xperia or are both phones using Truemove?
Have you swapped the Sim cards to see if the Sim card in your S7E will provide the settings for Enhanced LTE?
I have read through several threads about the Xperia X Performance and found that some users don't have the options in their settings to enable Enhanced 4G LTE unless the Sim card they are using is provisioned for it from the carrier.

I can confirm this.
Its not the phone that enables 4G or LTE but the sim card.
If your sim doesnt support 4G etc, you wont be able to access it.
I have tested it myself with a new and old sim card on the xp.
1 sim only alowed 3G, while the new sim gave me 4G.

fast69mopar i try swap things and did not see anything.
XxKYNGxX Thank you for answer, what i mean is LTE adavance not 4G LTE. All my sim are running normal 4G LTE but my S7Edge running LTE advance (4G+)

Okay. So, from everything I have read about TruemoveH and their networks, the Sony Xperia X Performance does support 3xCarrier Aggregation on their network. Even though the device supports CA and does work on their 3xCA there is not anything that will show up on the display to alert you when you are using it. The only thing that may give you a chance to see it is the LTE Discovery app from the Play Store. For example, here in the United States on Verizon networks, when I was connected to band 4 in my area, the LTE Discovery app listed band 4 as XLTE which is Verizon's was of telling customers they are using Advanced LTE. When you open the app, the LTE band is located in the top left box in the app. Below the band number could possibly show if you are actually using Advanced LTE. Hope this helps. Good luck.

I see 4g+ sometimes but the speed is not noticeable as 4g is fast enough.
4g+ on European nordic ?

any speed above 150mbps is LTE Advance.

Okay so i am not worrying about this anymore but in my openion they should show the most advance technology they got on screen for the user, like we have H and H+. We still got the best speed on towm on this device though
Thank you for all comments

Well, I live in an area with LTE and it's refarmed and all I get is edge so I'd like to know what it says too. My suspicion is that my plan prevents it. I picked up this data plan back when the G1 came out and haven't changed it since.

Typical T-Mobile signature of spotty coverage. Unfortunately, I'm on T-Mobile too
Rooster I see you already posted there, but for everyone else's benefit let me just point out there's another thread (not specific to T-Mobie) on this topic.
See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2245952
There were a couple relevant ideas brought up in that thread:
1) The developer edition radio hardware and software generally detects the same strength signal as carrier branded phones, but the stock HTC developer edition ROM is very conservative in how many "bars" of signal it displays in the UI. By contrast, carriers tend to like to show a lot of bars in their version of a ROM because it makes their customers feel good. People used to this behavior may be disappointed when they see "fewer bars".
2) The developer edition is also very honest about accurately reporting when the phone is switching between LTE and HSPA etc. Carrier branded phones tend to just say "LTE" all the time to keep people happy. So anyone seeing the actual switching activity for the first time assumes their phone must have a problem keeping the LTE signal locked.
A similar phenomenon happens a lot when people go from carrier-based ROMs to Cyanogenmod. Same signal, just different a display in the UI. Yet new users tend to complain CM has worse radio performance.
It's a legitimate question as to whether you are getting good T-Mobile service, just be aware the developer edition is going to be 'brutally honest' in showing you what is out there.
when I had the Samsung galaxy s3 i747 att model, I put a tmobile rom, and switched mobile mode to wcdma and I would get 4g...
How is it possible to get LTE on Tmobile's network with the Developer Edition HTC One? I thought Tmobile's LTE network is on 1700, which isn't a frequency the One has.
No?
I'm really confused by all this.
Does the Developer Edition support HSPA+ 42 MB/s and LTE? And will it ever?
Or does it only support HSPA 21 MB/s now and forever, as I was led to believe?
Please help me clarify.

Download one of the free signal monitoring programs. It is likely that TMO simply modifies the signal level to indicate more bars. You may well be picking up the same signal with the Dev edition, it just looks less.

LTE Status Bar Icon

Just received my unlocked Z3 Compact from Handtec. Data wasn't working so I inputted the APNs for my carrier (AT&T).
Data is working now, but I'm not sure if I'm getting LTE or not. The network icon shows '4G' above it, but not LTE. The manual says that it should show 'LTE', but it also doesn't even list a 4G icon.
Can anyone who definitely has LTE let me know what icon they're seeing? Thanks!
Go to settings, About Phone, Status and see if it shows you are connected to LTE. That's where it is on my Moto X so it should be close to the same but maybe named differently.
Also are you in an area that you had LTE service before? I see 4G in areas then 4G LTE in others.

Cool. Good to know, thanks.
In some customizations (e.g. UK) it's called 4G while in others (e.g. German) they named it LTE. Don't ask me why, but I noticed that while playing a bit around with the "Customized UK build .105" on my otherwise "Customized DE build .98".
I always thought that H+ was HSPA + (obviously), that 4G was LTE, but just 'slow' LTE, and that 4G LTE was 'high speed' LTE when you have a really good connection. Not sure though.

No no, here 4G means LTE, no difference over here.
Technically, only to add a bit confusion, LTE -whereas a 4th Generation network- is a 3.9G-Standard (extention to UMTS). LTE-Advanced, however, is (or will be) of 4G-Standard. :silly:
I think you should see LTE as well if in the US. One way to tell is to do a speed test, there are also apps in the market that can give you more info on your network connection.
My Moto X shows 4G and 4G LTE on At&t.

The call reps keep confirming that my Lumia 925 IMEI, an LTE phone, is registered correctly. Nothing changes, however, regardless of reboots, etc.. What device do you see in your My Account settings on AT&T's site? I keep seeing a silhouette of a flip phone. I'm wondering if I need to activate my nano sim in an LTE device they recognized or something (it doesn't fit in the Lumia 925).
Issue resolved!
Bottom line...do not give these clowns your Xperia IMEI number.
When they entered the IMEI number it flipped my data plan from a grandfathered unlimited plan to a pay-per-use plan with no LTE (why they couldn't figures this out last night, it beats me). He was talking about my wife's plan and her unlimited data. I then noted "mine is unlimited too" and then said it wasn't. You can only imagine how things went from there.
The unrecognized IMEI number automatically switched me off of my plan.
They have me on a temporary 3GB plan, as the support rep couldn't get me back on the unlimited plan. They have to send the change to their back office team and it will take a week to get it back.
My phone now has the 4G icon versus H+.

I hate to be daft here, but I feel like the answers are all a tad ambiguous.
Are people saying there for sure is no LTE icon for this phone? That having the 4G icon show is the same thing as having the LTE icon show?
I ask only because I have the 4G icon but I am getting like 1-3Mbps download speeds (using the speedtest app). I feel like I should be getting much higher speeds if it says 4G. I tested in the heart of downtown Seattle and in the outskirts of Seattle.
Any assistance would be great.

Obviously there's something wrong with those speeds but from what I know - yes 4G is LTE. This is because HSPA+/DCHSPA was never marketed as 4G in the UK so there had never been a confusion about what 4G is - it has always been LTE.
Ah, was wondering why they would scrap the LTE icon, my S4 had 4G and LTE icons.
What DL/Upload speeds are people in the US getting with 4G?
Just got 7/3.85 just now... which still seems way too low for 4G. Verified that my APN settings were correct.
I got 20 down in "4G" yesterday (no LTE icon). All good

Are you using the SIM from an LTE phone or did you get a new one and give them your IMEI? The Z3c isn't going to be in any US carriers system so if you give them the IMEI you will not get LTE. Give them the IMEI from an LTE phone or just swap your SIM from one LTE on me to the Z3c.
I also think unless its a US sold phone you will not see the LTE icon even if getting a LTE signal in the US.

Help with LTE Connection Problems

Hi, I have the Moto X 2014 pure edition and I am on consumer cellular. Consumer cellular is basically AT&T if you have not heard of it. My problem is my LTE connection. When I turn my phone on in the morning, I have an LTE signal. When my LTE signal goes under two bars I get pushed down to HSPA. However, once I go to HSPA my phone never goes back to LTE even when I know I have full bars. I have tried multiple APN settings so I don't believe that they are the problem. I will post screenshots from LTE discovery. This app shows the spinal strength of the connection. Both screenshots are from the exact same location within 20 seconds of each other. The only reason I got the LTE signal is because I set my phone to LTE only mode which I can't keep it in because I there is not volte here. Please help. Thanks in advance.
I think AT&T sells the XT1097 and that's because the pure edition is one band missing that your company uses, the same happens in Latin America. Here some information you can use https://forums.motorola.com/posts/889129c231
I also saw that when I was researching the problem. However, LTE discovery shows I am using band 4 which is available on my phone. If I update to lollipop, it will unlock more bands but I don't want to update yet because of the many bugs.

Searching found this
AT&T 4G HSPA and HSPA+ use 850Mhz(Band 5) and 1900Mhz(Band 2) bands but it all depends on area if they own a license. LTE uses Band 17(700Mhz), Band 5(850Mhz), Band 2(1900Mhz), Band 4(1700/2100Mhz) currently.
Depends of the area you are, if you are some place where the band 4 is available you will have LTE as soon you leave signal will lost, as I said the pure edition XT1095 supports only bands 2,4 and 17 and Lollipop enables bands 3,5 and 7, so I am guessing that the band you are missing is the 5.
That is a great point. However, I haven't moved more than a couple blocks to school. Once LTE becomes weak enough to drop down to HSPA, the phone doesn't reconnect to LTE once the signal is strong enough. I can turn on LTE only and it will switch to LTE with three or four bars of LTE.
Get a new phone?
I just got the phone about 2 months ago.
That happens to me as well. I know I'm on a place where there's LTE coverage, but the phone never connects to it, even though in the network option I have 4G as preferred network type. I can only get it to connect to LTE by going to the dialer and entering *#*#4636#*#*, Phone information and forcing it to connect to LTE Only.

Are you on native at&t or an MVNO?
Not all MVNO's have access to LTE and that might be a reason.
I am on native at&t with a Moto X Pure Edition and I register on and maintain LTE all day long without issue.
VoLTE would be an added benefit but as of yet nobody knows if unbranded device (or in at&t parlance gray devices) will ever support VoLTE.
Dan
Consumer cellular is a MVNO of AT&T. They utilize AT&T LTE and also have roaming. It is pretty much postpaid at&t. I understand that in the lollipop update, more LTE bands are unlocked. However, the LTE band that my phone shows is band 4 which is supported without lollipop. Thanks
If Consumer Cellular is allowed access to at&t's LTE network and if you area utilizing LTE on band 4, than it sounds like you have a defective device.
An easy test would be to pop an at&t SIM into your Moto X and see if that connects to LTE properly, if it doesn't then it is your device, if does then it is your account, it could be a provisioning problem or some other issue on the account side.
You could also try it putting your SIM into another device that supports at&t LTE and see if it properly connects and if it does that would pretty much indicate an issue with your Moto X.
Dan
I talked to Motorola through online chat and I was told to try a new Sim card before they could continue helping me. I called and a new Sim card is being sent. A couple days ago, I put my Sim card into my mother's gophone that she is using on consumer cellular also. It received LTE but I couldn't test it further to see if it stayed connected to LTE because she needed it back. Also, I could input APN settings and they would save no problem.

A SIM may or may not be the answer but it is a good place to start.
In my experience this type of issue is sometimes hard to pinpoint as there could be multiple issues at play, some within your control and some not.
If you have a chance to try your SIM (for more than a few moments) in another handset capable of Band 4 LTE on at&t, that would be beneficial in pinpointing the issue, conversely it is just as helpful to take a consumer cellular or at&t sim (though an at&t might be more telling) and insert that into your Moto X and see what happens.
Another issue, though less likely is that at&t is recognizing the phone as something other than a LTE capable handset and thus not allowing it to register on LTE? Have you used your SIM an a LTE capable handset prior to your Moto X?
Dan
I'm using a PE on AT&T and have bulletproof LTE signal. Not once have I seen it drop to HSPA+ when LTE is available. My N5 does it all the time, but not the Moto X.
I'm hoping to try my Sim in my mother's or brothers phone for a longer period of time sometime soon. A new Sim card will be here soon but I don't think it is the problem but it is indeed a good place to start.
I received the replacement Sim card and it did not help. I called Motorola support and they are sending me a replacement moto x. I really hope it fixes the problem. Also, I read that some people have had bad experiences with Motorola support but I had a great experience. The support member is sending me Motorola earbuds for free because of the inconvenience! I will update this thread once I receive the replacement. Meanwhile, thanks to all who have commented their advice. I truly appreciate it!

Open up cscfeature.xml or others.xml & look for this line:
Code:
<CscFeature_SystemUI_ConfigOpBrandingForIndicatorIcon>LTE</CscFeature_SystemUI_ConfigOpBrandingForIndicatorIcon>
For 4G/LTE icon, change to "VWZ, ATT, or TMB". Save & reboot. Try each one & see which you like as these carriers each use different styles.
If you want it to be LTE & LTE+ (LTE+ is when CA is active) only when connected to LTE & H when connected to HSPA+, change the line above to "LTE".
To add, just tried SPR..... only shows a small LTE hovering over the signal bars. Most international CSCs just show 4G. (This line does not actually change your active CSC)
Most international devices show 4G , in the USA since they like big words as it looks better , they depict 4G LTE on the icon.
A bit like some of the old Mercedes models, the USA numbers were bigger but engine size and specs was the same as the international ones.

That's one way of looking at it but in the US I think it has more to do with marketing. There was a big race to push out "4G" in the US. Tmobile first started calling HSPA+ 4G in the race against Verizon's "4G" network.
Then when LTE came out which techincally could not be called 5G, US carriers started using 4G/LTE for LTE & 4G for HSPA/+ cause it looks better/faster.
I'm using Tmobile CSC on my N950F but I changed the Tmobile 4G/LTE icon to LTE. So now when I'm connected to LTE it shows "LTE, "LTE+" when CA is active, & "H" when connected to HSPA+. Tmobile does not show a different icon to indicate when CA is active.

Technically speaking isn't hspa+ 3G in other countries and LTE, 4G in other countries?
The marketing aspect makes sense due to the USA national networks , after all if Verizon was advertising super duper 4G LTE ( 4G) , T Mobile and others had to use the same LTE verbiage else customers would think 4G was less than 4G LTE. A bit like why some post on here with their international devices wanting the status bar to show LTE I guess LOL.

3g is UMTS, hspa+ is somrthint between 3g and 4g, 3.5.g.

LTE+ Android 10 update

Is anybody getting LTE+ OR LTE-A signal on their phones after the updates? I never really noticed it before the update... But my g5 plus was getting lte+ on the Same sim. But my one power is only getting lte
I am getting LtE+ like always on my device, I barely see LTE
Am facing the same issue.. I can only see 4g instead of 4g+

Damn..are you sure?... What's your carrier?.... I'm really sick of getting only lte when a g5 plus is getting lte+..... Can you please attach an SS?
No LTE option showing in the network options after Android 10 update, only 2g, 3g and 4g options visible for Airtel and Vodafone sims.
Earlier LTE option also used to be there. Is it normal?

Icon were not displayed but there was huge difference in internet performance when changing network setting to LTE. Difference used to be like 14mbps vs 4mbps when measured on speedtest.net at same place and time. Signal also used to improve.
But now can't do the same test since there is only 4g option available.
