[Q] How to decompile .XAP from Windows Phone Store? - Windows Phone 8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys, is it possible to decompile an app installed from Windows Phone Store?
I'm using a Huawei W1-U00 rooted, running WP 8.1 and i'm able to access the file system and see the data from a .XAP app that I installed (with WP SDK), but i can't access the data from an app installed from Windows Store.
Thanks.

.xap files is just zip files, but it's encrypted - you need a extractor, it will not work in normal .zip extractor eg. 7-Zip or WinRAR. It contains .exe and .dll files. Extract it, and you can use ILSpy or similiar tool for .NET applications or disassembler for C/C++ applications to decompile .dll and .exe files.

read cab files

is there an app for the alpine that lets you extract cab files from exe.files without using a pc
I think most of the .exe actually contain a Win32 installer, so I believe there is no realy way to extract the CAB from it, apart from running it on the PC.
However, most of the time you can get the CAB on the PC and install it without using ActiveSync. The Installer usually extracts the CAB to C:\Program Files\[Name of Software] or C:\Program Files\Microsoft ActiveSync\[Name of Software]. Grab it there and store it on your device, then install with CabInstaller for example.
Cheerio !
If you must go hardcore and decompress a cab on your phone, try it with a RAR decompresor. They open on the PC with winrar, but you'll lose file name & structure.

Sometimes the PC .exe file automatically deletes the CAB file from the PC & you won't be able to find it on the PC.
If you have an app that behaves like this, run the .exe on the PC & click on OK/Next until you get to the dialogue that asks you 'Install "AppName" using the default install directory?', just after you see the 'Retrieving Device Data' notification.
Now fire up Windows Explorer on the PC and search your \Program Files\ and \Program Files\Microsoft ActiveSync\ directories for your software developer's name. The CAB files should be inside this folder.
Note: All you need is the CAB file. If there is more than one, make sure you pick the correct Processor type ie .ARM for Himalaya or Alpine, not SH3 or MIPS. You don't need any .ini files either.

Trying not to sound stupid

Hi
trying not to sound stupid but how do I install applications like Gsen on the Diamond. I have copied the programme over into the internal memory but when I click on the java file it opens it in opera
You copy the cab file and run it on the phone, dunno what this java file is.
Java file? Where did you download it from?
Installers for WinMo are .cab files, simply copy one of those to the phone and run it as a normal installation.
For GSen go to the authors website where you will download a zip file containing the .cab installer

HOWTO: Extract a file from a Windows Installer package (a.k.a. .MSI file)

download here :http://www.brothersoft.com/less-msierables-download-202105.html
i used this to extract cabs for office 2010 and .net compact just so people can extract their own cabs from msi instaler
ps if this is covered elsewhere delete this.
Universal Extractor is another software able to but doesn't work on all .exe's just like software above

[Q] .xap file format

Hi, guys
Does anyone knows where I can find a specification about the file format of .xap file, there are some guys saying that the xap file is a zip, but sounds it is not true, according to the xap files I downloaded from Windows App Store, the magic word of the xap at the beginning is "PRE"...
Any comment will be appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
XAP Files are Zip-Files. Your Problem is that when they are submitted to the Marketplace they are encrypted to avoid piracy. If you rename a regular XAP file created by Visual Studio to .ZIP you can open it and browse it. If you donwload it from the Marketplace you can't do anything with it.

Click to collapse
when I click to search updates it tell that the phone was updated, what is the process?
I think:
1)copy those files in phone folders.
2)speech, ad language-download,
3)settings, update.
Or only 1 and 3.
I think i have only one part of packagestoinstall. Only cortana in spanish is talking
