Will we ever see android 7.0? - Zuk Z1 General

Hey guys,
so Qualcomm announced that they won´t release drivers for the gpus of Snapdragon 800/801 because the Adreno 330 is too old to handle projekt Vulkan. That means we won´t get an official cyanogenOS because it won´t pass the tests to get shipped with google apps. However I am a tech-newbie and I am askin myself if there is a way someone will someday make a customROM based on Nougat, let´s say CyanogenMod 14. I know that if it is possible it might take quite a while but I am unsure if it is possible at all with the bot released driver.
Thanks in advance and have a nice weekend.

just thought id share it in here guys. even if you dont think its relevant to you, since you dont flash roms (which is unlikely, because you would not be in xda..lol ), still sign it ! its important stuff, especially if we want a good ics rom.

Note from Nvidia about drivers
Hello Android Development Community
We appreciate all the interest and passion surrounding the NVIDIA Tegra Platform and we take our support for the development community seriously. NVIDIA has been working with Google and Motorola to provide the open source community with the required drivers and other binary code to build full Android OS images for the Tegra 2 powered "Motorola Xoom". We expect Google to make those components available as part of the Android Open Source Project soon.
In addition, NVIDIA is working on a full release of Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) for our Tegra 2 Dual Core and Tegra 3 Quad Core reference devices to be made available early next year. This release package will comprise of binary code, drivers developed on our reference platforms and any patches necessary to ensure stability & performance with ICS. We hope the open source community can leverage this release for their work on all Tegra devices.

These petitions are of no use. The only option we have is to wait.
i know i know... online petitions dont accomplish anything.. but i guess im just a bit desperate.
ive seen that statement and what troubles me is that it mainly concerns xoom which is actually using a different kind of tegra2, ventenara or sth like that whereas 2x has harmony tegra 2, so if nvidia releases drivers for xoom, we wont have much use of them

WP8 custom rom on older devices.

Since now we know MS will not be supporting older devices for wp8 upgrde, is it possible that a custom rom be made to run on older devices?
I dont think so, sadly. because windows phone 8 will be configured for at least dual core i suspect, only rom we might get is a tango like rom (think lumia 610) not capable of running all apps.

so its not possible at all?
It was announced yesterday so i suggest you wait for leaked roms so that devs can take a look.. sit tight.. no one can anwser you for sure what will happen in the future.. for me i'll get a new phone anyway
Please post questions in the Q&A sections.
Thread moved.
Not sure yet! The rom is not available still so we can't be sure of anything....once it releases lets just hope the DFT team releases a rom
hope it can be ported over. just like how they ported wp7 to Hd2
i dont see why it cant be ported. unless the bare minimum is dual core. but I doubt they let go of the cheaper market. with that being said i believe we will see a port to the htc devices like the hd7 because it actually has a sd slot.
the cpu support would be the largest of our problems. drivers are what windows is know for. a newer kernal without the correct drivers may leave us stranded on 7.8 but not tango. our devices are on parr with newer genration wp7 but lack camera features. so EXPECT 7.8!

wp8 runs on scalable cpu architecture. means the 2nd core can be switched off.
so Theorertically it runs on single core if no heavy load is present

Cyanogenmod for R1?

Hey Everyone,
I'm fairly new to the Android community. I got an R1 and have since rooted it and de-bloated it. But I was wondering what the state of Cyanogenmod is. I've heard they've stopped development on it. Is there any chance they (or someone) will add support for the Blu R1 HD?
I'm interested in getting a full AOSP experience without the closed source google services kit software.
-Jeff
Don't hold me to this, but I personally believe CM13 support will not be too difficult. It'll be later versions of Android that will pose a problem.
Also, CM13 for the R1 HD is being worked on. It's just a matter of time.

Oh, it is? Thats great. I have plenty of patience
I'm in the same exact boat, have rooted/de-bloated and installed trebuchet and other features, but really would like to see CM support.

I don't understand too much about android ROM development, but what would prevent CM14 development/future versions from being developed?
contacted Blu and they told me that they are looking forward to working on updating as many devices as they can to the new platform as soon as possible!......righhtttt!!!
Once the dev. on the kernel is in line for a cm13 port , cm14 (which is already being worked on) hopefully might be a possibility.

Me either, but I think it would be the drivers. I would suspect with CM13 they can use it's current drivers but with anything Android 7.0 they would need new drivers.
Blu has updated a few devices haven't they? They have to develop the drivers and then run it through the carriers approval I believe? I'm sure they are looking at how much money they expect to make from the R1 HD in 4-6 months. Some of this might depend on their plans of a new phone they plan to release. R1 HD is a big seller.... but what about in 6 months?
A device tree is very likely being compiled for this device now that the kernel source has been released. A CM 13 build I'd imagine is also in the works with other custom roms likely to follow. I would just sit back and keep your eye out. As soon as customs ROMs are released you should easily find them in R1 HD Forums on XDA. I wouldnt hold your breath for anything beyond android 6.0 on this device tho! Marshmallow ROMs will be more then sufficient for these devices and most devs really don't like to hear when this or that will be updated or released.

No, I'm pretty sure once devs can build AOSP 6.0 for this device, it'll get 7.0, even if BLU abandons it. I mean, you do realize that you're on a website famous for, among other things, providing unofficial updates to unsupported devices, right?

Yeah I know exactly where I am bro. The fact that its such a low cost device and the unlikely hood of Blu updating the kernel source to 7.0 makes it very very unlikely there will ever be any kind of 7.0 update on these phones. Plenty of unofficial updates of ROMs are released but not many are above the "official" releases like going from 5.0 to 6.0 or 6.0 to 7.0. Were still waiting to see how Devs react to the R1 HD now since its not a big name mainstream device. So like I was saying if we don't see Blu update to 7.0 which is doubtful, we prob won't see any kind of Nuaget. Not saying its impossible without a Blu update just wouldn't hold my breath waiting on a Dev to take on that task on this particular device....

"Not a big name mainstream device"
Totally man. The number 1 selling phone on Amazon isn't a "big name, mainstream device." If anything this phone is proving how Android development is dwindling.
There was a article that said Blu would release Android 7.0 for the R1 HD. I don't know how reliable or legitimate it is.

They probably did say it, BLU has a history of promising upgrades, they rarely deliver. I don't know if the blame is theirs or their Chinese partners, not delivering. But even at that if BLU was smart they would hire a team of developers to actually develop roms instead of just simple branding tweaks on the manufacturer supplied firmware. BLU needs to tweak their sales routine, currently they sell flashy looking phones on the cheap, but if they would change their focus to selling entry to mid level phones with better support, they could really make a name for themselves.

[Discussion] Not happy P8 won't be updated to Nougat? REPORT!

Hey people. I am P9 user BUT I am not happy that your phones won't be updated to Nougat. This means my P9 won't get Android 8... This is ridiculous! Not even 2 years of OS updates?
So Report HERE to these muth*ducker from Huawei so they realize how stupid this is!
Product & Technical Support - Complaints - Maintenance period!
It's a joke with these specs phones to get only one Major Update!
Don't be silent people! You are the one who make these companies rich! And they treat you like this? After all you paid with hard earned money!
I'm not sure if they are going to care about, there are some compability issues with Android 7 and the Hardware of the Huawei P8, guess its too much afford for them.
But we wont even get EMUI 5, thid is kinda sad.
I just hope the CM13 Port will be finished soon.
But its worth a try..
Correct me if I'm wrong. I understand that it's because the chip of P8 (Mali-T628) does not support some features of Android N (like vulkan API). So it's not because they don't want to...
what is more interesting is that my old phones like Samsung Galaxy s4 mini and Galaxy ACE 2, which are pretty old phones, handle nougat via cyanogenmod, but in matter of P8 thare are compatibility issues? how is this possible?

Lots of people have Samsung phones so there is a "market" for keeping these going.
The source code is available.
They tend to use hardware that lots of other devices use.
Huawei use proprietary hardware on a smaller number of devices.

what market do you mean? galaxy ace 2 and s4mini ended with kitkat with message that their hw can not handle lollipop, so ridiculous considering that cynaogenmod 14 runs on both of them better than official stock rom 4-5 years ago, i think this is all bull*hit, if they wanted to bring us nougat, they could, how they even could release flagship knowing that they will not be able to release at least 2 updates? this is not normal

By "market" I meant for developers. I can get the latest CM running on my S2. I don't think Samsung should still be supporting it.
The only reason those phones are still running up to date software is that 3rd parties have developed for them.
With most android phones you can expect one major update and that is normal and has been the case for many years. If you don't like it you should get a nexus or at least a phone with a more common chipset with community support.
Huawei should just release all the code necessary to allow for 3rd party development on their phones, especially when they stop updating them.

Tab A 8.0 (SM-T350) spotted running Android 7.0 on Benchmarks

The Galaxy Tab A 8.0, which is also known as the SM-T350, was spotted running Google's new software, Android 7.0. Check the attachments for proof.View attachment 4225926
After conferring with my contact at samsung he confirms there is a test build out there internally however will unlikely will be released at 7.1.1 to public and don't expect a leAK of the firmware I already asked and was told very resounding negative.

Thanks for the info but what does unlikely be released mean? How about android 7.0 then. I just got a Tab A 7" (SM-280)to replace my old nexus 2012, and find it really poor that this cant even be upgraded to MM at the very least. Not even a custom rom. Why Samsung is even promoting and marketing this all over the place as a 2016 version yet shipping it with 5.1.1 is appalling. Hopefully this internal build actually does make it out and can be ported to the T-280 as its nearly same spec. Should just be a downscaling UI difference I would think.
Sorry i must not gave specified what i meant i meant that it will unlikely be 7.1.1 that will be released it will most likely be 7.1.2

The T280 uses a Spreadtrum SoC while the T350 uses Qualcomm. That's a big difference.
We're getting Nougat!
