[Discussion] Not happy P8 won't be updated to Nougat? REPORT! - Huawei P8 Guides, News, & Discussion

Hey people. I am P9 user BUT I am not happy that your phones won't be updated to Nougat. This means my P9 won't get Android 8... This is ridiculous! Not even 2 years of OS updates?
So Report HERE to these muth*ducker from Huawei so they realize how stupid this is!
Product & Technical Support - Complaints - Maintenance period!
It's a joke with these specs phones to get only one Major Update!
Don't be silent people! You are the one who make these companies rich! And they treat you like this? After all you paid with hard earned money!

I'm not sure if they are going to care about, there are some compability issues with Android 7 and the Hardware of the Huawei P8, guess its too much afford for them.
But we wont even get EMUI 5, thid is kinda sad.
I just hope the CM13 Port will be finished soon.
But its worth a try..

Correct me if I'm wrong. I understand that it's because the chip of P8 (Mali-T628) does not support some features of Android N (like vulkan API). So it's not because they don't want to...

what is more interesting is that my old phones like Samsung Galaxy s4 mini and Galaxy ACE 2, which are pretty old phones, handle nougat via cyanogenmod, but in matter of P8 thare are compatibility issues? how is this possible?

Lots of people have Samsung phones so there is a "market" for keeping these going.
The source code is available.
They tend to use hardware that lots of other devices use.
Huawei use proprietary hardware on a smaller number of devices.

what market do you mean? galaxy ace 2 and s4mini ended with kitkat with message that their hw can not handle lollipop, so ridiculous considering that cynaogenmod 14 runs on both of them better than official stock rom 4-5 years ago, i think this is all bull*hit, if they wanted to bring us nougat, they could, how they even could release flagship knowing that they will not be able to release at least 2 updates? this is not normal

By "market" I meant for developers. I can get the latest CM running on my S2. I don't think Samsung should still be supporting it.
The only reason those phones are still running up to date software is that 3rd parties have developed for them.
With most android phones you can expect one major update and that is normal and has been the case for many years. If you don't like it you should get a nexus or at least a phone with a more common chipset with community support.
Huawei should just release all the code necessary to allow for 3rd party development on their phones, especially when they stop updating them.

not buying samsung ever again

i did not want to open a new thread so here are some excitment news that i have written in the third page of this thread:
"well i gues it will be easy for me not to buy a samsung phone ever again.
motorola and intel sign on a long term agreement and medfield really kicking ARM a** at least in the few benchmarks that were published and with lower consumption according to the benchmarks.
so my next phone will be a motorola phone with intel inside it.
goodbye samsung and yours sh*tty support.
i hope many of you will do the same as me. show them the power of the customers. i hope samsung will lose all their customers to motorola!!!!!!!!!!!"
original post:
not only they don't release the drivers to help developers like onecosmic and cyanogen, they stop their support on a phone who sold millions of units world wide.
i have this phone only for a year, and 2.3 is the last version i'll get.
but maybe we need to blame google because other company also dropping their support after a year.
maybe it is time to consider microsoft and intel combination. if they are doing such a great work on pc, and intel is about to release their cpu for mobiles, that combination will kick android a** i hope. i can't believe that this is the last update i will get, i have 2.3 for months, i dont care about crappy face recognitaion in 2.3.6 i want hardware acceleration.
i am staring to hate android. open source is great, until you are not getting anymore updates maybe the middle between android open source and ios is the answer like microsoft.
microsoft bring us directx games to cell phones and i am leaving crappy android today.

fact is, Samsung is a company that is only interesed in your money, just like all other companies out there. They're not a charity organisation. They want you to buy their phones.
the SGS has gotten 2 major firmware updates. eclair to froyo and froyo to gingerbread. There's not alot of phones out there that have gotten the same luck.
Of course it would be nice to receive an ICS updates but frankly i don't care. There's already a good working unofficial ICS rom and official Gingerbread rom does it's job more than pleasant.
I would say it's your loss since samsung always make better phone with better price compare to apple made in china trash. I know the software is not too good buy you have plenty developers here that can help the phone runs better. If you want ics just used one cosmics rom.

Do tell me where I get support for my original iPhone (2g) so I can up date the thing to v4 or even v5 iOS.
At the end of the day the SGS is near 2 years old and seeing as the SGS3 is around the corner I would consider the SGS old!
Anycase there is a ICS ROM for the SGS, just used that and be happy!
onecosmic and cyanogen can not fix the camera and other minor things without the drivers from samsung and i have 2.3 almost 6 months. so no i dont consider one year of updates to be that good. you want your phone, to be updated for a year and then throwit to the garbage?.
one year of updates for a phone who sold millions world wide is not enough and because of people like you it will coninue.
i tried 20 different roms so dont try to sell me that i can try onecosmic rom. the camera and other minor things not working correctly i am on cyanogen mod and i am ont happy with the camera and the battery life, tv out is not working and other minor bugs.
edit: not that i have any bad things to say about onecosmic and cm7 developers i know it is not their fault, they dont have the drivers. so thanks to all the developers out there for their best efforts.
im on 2.3.6... why dont you flash? its smooth as ever. Im happy for what it is. Do yourself a favour and get the value pack rom

It's funny how people count the Eclair to Froyo update as a point for Samsung when the phone was released after Froyo came out, Samsung was just damn late.
I got no problems with samsung. after i found this site i've loved the phone Must thank all the hard working people who just got the intrest to release all kinds of mods etc. they make the phone worth having

To be honest i'd be happy with a good Gingerbread (stock), I don't think it's been as good as the last Froyo 2.2.1 update, which suddenly made the phone work properly.
I think its a shame that there isn't at least a two year life span (a lot of phone contracts are 24 months) in terms of updates, but I also understand this technology is probably one of the fastest moving.

Samsung didn't design ALL components in the SGS, they have bought many from THIRD party (like audio part from Wolfson, etc. etc.). You have open source drivers for SOME devices and many of chip-makers sell Chips + Closed drivers with limited support. It's not the Samsung's fault if they don't want release drivers, Samsung use only BINARY drivers for some devices ! Blame some *****ng chip-maker firms. I used to fight a lot with Adaptec to have some source code to make working some $500 Hardware Raid card for FreeBSD some years ago, many chip-maker are VERY reluctant to give drivers code, and it's not a new story in Linux world.
Windows and Intel will make better ? Are you serious or just blind ? Why Vista was so "unstable" in his debut ? Drivers, Drivers and Drivers.. like Android. iOS ? Another joke ? Apple use ONE hardware and chip-makers are forced to give the code (or they're excluded from Apple, so they give all Apple want), iPhone is a very well sell and Apple is one of the richest firm in the world, chip-makers aren't totally stupid if they want to sell million and million of their chips.
And for your information : First ROM for SGS are build in March 2010, latest is Dec 2011, what a poor support..
I can see Samsung absolutely ****ting themselves reading the op. Dumb thread.

This is, IMHO, the main Android drawback.
Android is not really "open". It's a marketing hype.
Producers like Samsung make heavy "modifications" to their phones and do not relase their drivers.
We're lucky that SGS has an hardware similar to the Nexus S, otherwise I doubt we could have a stable ICS porting for our phone.
My next phone, if I'll chose again Android, will be a Google Experience One.
Bye.

Why is samsung so SLOW with Android 6.0 update?

Mainly a rant thread, but seriously LG G4 already getting AD6.0 and now i've read HTC M9 getting 6.0 and A9 getting 6.0.1.
Sammy sold the highest android phones number, and yet they so slow in providing updates, they start testing beta in next month only.

Because Samsung has touchwiz and has to make it perfectly compatible. Takes a while.
That's not an excuse, HTC M9 getting 6.0 tommorow and A9 getting 6.0.1, G4 already getting 6 and G3 started to get it today... Samsung is soo late only now they releasing beta 6.0 to certain GS6 devices.
Yes, it IS an excuse. It is just one that you don't like.
Samsung is updating at the speed they want. I would fully bet that they were intentionally waiting for 6.0.1, as 6.0.0 likely had some issues they wanted to see fixed.

I hope it's true and they learnt from their mistakes, i remember a lot of GS5 users complained about lollipop more than usually, same with 4.3 that was one of the worst updates sammy ever made.
For me, I would rather get a solid update than the fastest update.

If that would happen, that could backfire so fast specially since 6.0 was released to all other devices. heck G3 and GS5 released same year, yet G3 already getting android 6.0, idk if galaxy s5 will get it, and if it will probably Q2 2016... Samsung support is lacking and need to be changed, but since they beta testing android 6.0 now, i hope they won't use it as an excuse to "delay" it to until GS7 launches.
It's been well known fact Samsung always behind to provide latest update then why one should buy Samsung devices?
Google test everything for their devices before os release so they don't have to wait that's very clear and not difficult to understand their devices always will remain first to get os update. Comparison with LG or HTC have no sense as well as as far as no one have hardware differences as compare to Samsung. Do they have to think about spen? Samsung theme? S health? NO
These are the features needs to modify almost everything to provide support with new os and can only be understand if you have developed something.
They can split the updates to two parts, the main Android 6.0 base update without updating the minor stuff like s health, themes, and just make S Pen compatible, then after short while release a package of updates android 6.0 updates, idk if it possible, but sure as hell Samsung could be faster, again if they put 6.0.1 with as little to no bugs, then i prefer it over rushed release.
why don't Samsung let it customer beta test the new marshmallow update? iphone lets its customer beta test before full release...

I think this time a little bit different. They seem want to improve their Rom quality, do it more carefully. Years ago I realize that Sam S series always be first to update because they are flagship and almost no special features like Note series. Absolutely I agree with you about Sam Roms are very different to HTC, LG.
But as Note 4 users, I was very angry about their update: no theme, no new features, no change on S Pen function, quite bad battery life.
Anyway, Samsung as most profitable Android OEM, have to change some points, do something better about update and Rom. We pay more, they do more better!

N910F Snapdragon Android 7 Nougat ROMs: status and plans

Guys,
i've been checking XDA every several days to see if there will be any information regarding Android 7 ROMs for N910F, but there seems to be an absolute silence.
Is there anyone from the development teams that could give an update on the subject, should we expect any roms this month, for example? i'm surprised by this silence, because Galaxy Tab S, for example, already has 7.0 rom for weeks:
[ROM][7.0] Android 7 - Nougat [T700/T705/T800/T805]
There have been a lot of complaints regarding battery life on MM, so maybe android 7 will be the next great thing in Note 4 Roms?
thanks!!
You could always pick up the great guides on here, buy a book or two, and start a 7.0N thread including a ROM

of course, probably you grow the cow first if you want to have some milk, or maybe build an airplane first if you need to fly to a different city. if you find it reasonable, good for you!
however this does not give any information regading upcoming Android 7 roms for N910F, or why they are not showing up (are there any issues, etc).

it's very difficult to say. Tab S is a tablet, with slow CPU, but with amazing screen and excellent thinness/weight.
Android 6 rom actually made this tablet usable again, a perfect thing for web browsing.
many users (like me) are fine to use it just for wi-fi with Android 7 ROM.
I don't think there will be any problem with Android 7 on Note 4 Snapdragon, but it's amazing that nobody comments on this, and does not give any plans. I'm sure there will be many users willing to jump from 4.4.4 to 7.0...

Yes I have the Note 4 (SM-N910F) and the Tab S (SM-T805) and have Lollipop on both. I am sure that as the Android 7 (Nougat) ROM gets rolled out to phones as opposed to tablets there will be some Nougat ROMs appearing for our Note 4. The person who cooked the Nougat ROM for the Tab S obviously had difficulties getting the telephony to work He says:
"Issues
Graphical glitches on rotation and screen off
RIL, meaning no telephony support so far"
- that is probably why that ROM hasn't been developed further for phones!

The tab s has almost the same procrssor as the note 4 exynos. However yes it isnt a processor which is good for an flagship tablet but Samsung does that with all tablets, the New Tab S2 2016 edition also only has a SD652 processor, which also cant be clasified as high end..

I hope too. But let's don't get overwhelmed by the hope.
From business perspective it's pointless to invest in old device support in this situation. They've lost billions on Note7. Upgrading Note4 to Nougat means more spending and give users reasons to stay longer on old devices, while they want you to buy a new one quicker to cover their expenses.
Upgrading Note4 would be a very noble move from Samsung, but as their previous behavior shows, noble moves are not in their habits.

well, if you ignore customers and their loyalty, then it'd be pointless to invest in old device support.
if you value your customers, then it is not pointless.
because happy customers help you sell your products; unhappy customers do the opposite.
at the end of the day, there's nothing really that would prevent a healthy Android 7 ROM to be made for the Note 7.
Samsung has already made a lot of people angry by removing features like Flat screen, the removable battery, ir blaster, etc. If the battery were removable in Note 7, very possibly the recall and the media disaster wouldn't even have happened.
Let's see if they will lean, and will become customer-focused again.

I'm not trying to argue, but lots of people, who buy top devices (whatever that means), usually don't care and even don't know what version of OS they have. I'm not trying to say they are stupid or something, they just don't care or the OS version is not their priority.
Plus lots of old device owners are not direct Samsung customers, that's what this business success is about: if customer wants to be on the edge, (s)he should buy new. I don't know if there's a research about how many - 2-3 y.o. flagships have 2nd+ owners, but the refurbished phone market is quite big. So, part of not so must-do investment like upgrading old phones is not only going to nowhere for the phone makers, but also creates undesired competition for their new products on some markets (e.g. like in my country where operators' offers phone+contract aren't so "sweet" like in countries with bigger number of potential customers and people would think twice if they need to upgrade with brand-new or lightly used). Note4 users are just a thin slice.
And you can't blame Samsung for not taking care about old device owners - they released 6.0.1 update for N910F not so long ago, they run "buy-back" program in lots of places. But, you know, there should be something to get you interested in buying new phone.
OK, seems like we're going off topic here
I did get the same thought about my Note4 and Nougat as soon as I heard about termination of Note7, but... I'm skeptic here. It's hard time for Samsung to invest in something with doubtful possibility to return and make their new products less valuable comparing to old ones.
I've no idea what you all are thinking, but 1. There sure as Hell won't be an official Sammy Update to 7.0. Never ever.
2. 7.0 Custom roms are far away. Since no Samsung phone is on an official stable build (afaik) there's no base yet. So the only Option is AOSP. In my experience even the 6.0 Roms aren't stable enough for a daily driver. Since a Nougat port needs some base, normally the 6.0 Rom would be used as a base. It gets a bit technical from here on, but tldr is, it's not as easy as downloading the source, copying some folders around and bang, rom...
3. As a (un)written rule, you never ask for eta's. Ever. It's no problem if you ask if there is anything out there, but as you figured already out, there's not. So asking like a child on christmas day when it's going to be there, especially that close to release of the source, is considered rude.

your comment regarding the lack of the first official base gives some understanding regarding 7.0 status, thanks for that!
As for the last one, p.3, asking "when" and "how is it going" could be considered rude only by really childish and immature persons.
There are a lot of people here on XDA that flash roms in their spare time too (like people that develop them), and not everyone has too much of it. we would like to have at least some basic understanding about 7.0 progress, to plan migration to the new rom (which requires dedicating several consecutive days for roms flashing, data migration, and testing). Asking when, is about planning.
"I'm not trying to argue, but lots of people, who buy top devices (whatever that means), usually don't care and even don't know what version of OS they have.".
According to my experience, this is true. No one here should think that they use their phones the way we do, here on XDA. 8 out of 10 users just update their devices, because they see the OTA notification appearing, but don´t even care about the differences between the old OS and the new one. If you ask them, what is KitKat and Lollipop, or root, most likely they won´t know the answers. As long as Facebook, WhatsApp, Viber, whatever works, everything´s fine. The only difference they do care about, is battery ilfe. By the way, battery life... I´m an android user since Gingerbread. I had several devices, before i bought the Note 1, and since then I´m using only Note phones, I had the Note 2, Note 3, and now for a long time, Note 4. I never ever understood why some people are so keen on having the newest OS, because according to my experience, the newest is rarely the better... I liked KitKat, especially the X-Note custom ROM´s. Lollipop was on the market for long time, i had to reflash my phone, so i thought i give it a try. After a few weeks of being on Lollipop, i ran back to KitKat, my good old X-Note. Lollipop was a huge stepback in battery life, and i haven´t experienced any really noticable advantages. About a month ago i deciced to upgrade my KitKat to Marshmallow, just out of curiousity. A huge disappointment, again. Battery life is also worse, the overhyped permission management system is a joke, and apart from the off-screen memo i haven´t found anything useful in MM. So, as before, i went back to my good old KK, i enjoy the stability, the extreme long battery life, and, honestly, i don´t even wait to Nougat.

It goes even further than not careing. My own girlfriend HATES OS Updates. i told her, that for her Mate 7 there's a new Android Version out. She refuses to update because every update on every device ever (not only android, windows too) meant major hassle for her. She uses the phone as is and everything that changes anything is evil. Don't try to argue with security or such. She is just feared, that her phone won't work the same anymore. And seeing how much i flash my phone to "get it working" i can't blame her
Battery life is a topic i'm struggeling with. My inner nerd wants to get the maximum runtime out of that thing. But recently, with Doze introduced, i have some major Notification Problems. Allo doesn't notify at all or 2 days later. Whatsapp randomly delays Notifications by hours... Maybe the ever itching battery saving thing has gone to far. I mean, on a typical workday i leave at 6am and come home at 5pm with 75% Battery left. I just stopped caring. The Note 4 makes it through a day on every OS for me. And a second one if i have too. :good:
Seems like no news at all regarding 7.0 ROMs...
an absolute silence...
Several devs making AOSP/CM Roms have stated in their threads, that it's in the works. Only now some devices running stock'ish roms are getting Android 7 (OPO..) We are rocking an oldish phone with a processor/chipset that no official Android 7 phone has. Samsung has no official 7 rom either. So it's just a lot of work to get something useable.
I'm sure our devs have something bootable. But getting from there to something usable/daily driver ready is a long and bumpy road. Give them some time. We'll get it sooner or later. For sure.

Huawei P8 Nougat Petition

Huawei Mobile*has released the Android 7 Nougat update for the P9, P9 Lite and Mate 8 devices. Why they haven't done the same for the P8, P8 Lite and Mate S, this*only leads to one conclusion:
Huawei*only cares about the factory line revenue generation of their P9, P9 Lite and newer devices! All you customers who purchased new P8, P8 Lite and Mate S*a few months back, you can be sure that Huawei*only wants you to buy a newer mobile phones and leave older devices even if they are still sufficient by hardware side.
The hardware requirements for Android Nougat are irrefutably the same as Android Marshmallow.* Where is 18 month software support?

If I remember correctly it isn't really Huawei's fault. Google doesn't support the version for P8 because of security issues.
Anyway I wouldn't really looking for the Android 7.0, most of the UI is available in Launchers like Nova and other pars of it doesn't really make much of a difference.

EMUI 5 uses new filesystem format which makes phone faster and makes the phone fast even after a long time of usage becauses it doesnt fragment data, i think it could be noticable in midend phone like P8, shame we wont have it...

Yeah, imo Huawei should've though ahead about their hardware compatibility.

Surprisingly the HTC One M8 which is also incompatible with Vulkan, is getting Nougat update in the US.

i dont know M8 but what i can say is huawei itself comfirmed that model P8 wont get further versions of android except those with security patch, Have HTC ever said that they will never get nougat? i think that even if huawei could bring it to us later, they just wont anymore, they released TOO many new devices since then, if they had to maintain all of them they would get crazy and no profit from that what so ever, if there is any hope is very, very small, and i dont have any anymore
I don't have a P8 but I remember always wanting one due to the awesome design. If developers can port Nougat to My Galaxy S4 then I really don't see why Hauwei can't make an official release for the p8. With 2 year software updates the norm I find this extremely unacceptable. The vulkan requirement is false, for I can run nougat on a S4 (custom ROM) and have no graphical issues at all. Good luck with your petition.

nope, you ain't seeing nougat on p8. we chinese users have been asking huawei since the release of emui 5, and all the answer from them is "no major functional upgrades, but security patches will continue". so stop hoping for official emui 5, and cross your fingers for third-party flavors like lineage. btw based on the status of the cm13 and lineage13 here, lineageos suooprt seems promising.

That's a compromise you have to take. It's the same for almost all phones. My S4 has worse quality but not too bad

thats right, unfortunatelly im not willing to take this compromise, the phone takes fantastic photos and it doesnt pay off just for some extra features that doesnt matter in real life anyway, emui has everything that people could need, awesome battery life, fast ui, great phone manager and the most important for me, pro camera

The differemce in android built!

Samsung galaxy A5 being expensive midranger doesn't got full amdroid marshmallow support! It was upgraded from kitkat to lollipop with some changes but marshamllow upgrade didn't changed anything except Android Version and API level.
Being cheap and lower in specs wise Galaxy J5 got all the Marshmallow feature. It has got theme support, newer notification panel etc. Which galaxy A5 lacks!! What is the reason behind it??
To sell newer devices obviously.
Well, look on the bright side, A5 will eventually get 7.0, while J5 won't.

Yes that may be an marketing strategy to sell newer device!
They have around 30 devices floating around from the last 3 years. The Galaxy S5 for example did not get updated to the newest Touchwiz version although receiving the update to marshmallow. It's a marketing thing for sure but as the average user won't care too much about the UI it's just not worth the hassle to port newest Touchwiz to outdated devices.

It will. I wonder how long it will take Samsung to realise they need to step up their update game. Waiting for an update for a whole year to come - not cool. Only receiving one, max. 2 software updates at all - not cool either. If they really want to beat Apple in the future they need to proof they can handle updates well.
