Aukey MicroUSB to Type C safety - OnePlus 3 Accessories

Hi all,
I ordered these: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01GRGJ6PU/ from Amazon, and since it is not stated on the product information page, I was wondering whether they are spec compliant or not (so I can know if it is safe for me to use them).
I tried them on a friend's Nexus 5X using Checkr and it said they were ok, but I still would like to make sure.
Any experiences with these?
Thanks!

Did your friend know you were testing out your potentially-dodgy cable on their phone?! ?

Yes Even though from my reading, worst that could happen was to the computer you connected it to, and that was my laptop
Edit: I needed to check on a friend's phone because Checkr only works on Nexus 5X and 6P and Pixel C. I had already used it before on my phone and it worked just fine. Ampere reported a maximum current of 1500 mAh. Once I tried on the Nexus I had already tested a few things on my phone

AUKEY along with anker and nekteck is one of the better aftermarket cable vendors, all of their USB-C to USB-A accessories I've tried have been compliant

[Q] Scosche - Revolt 2-port USB car charger - 2 12W ports

Hi everyone,
I just bought this car charger, hoping that I could get a faster charging inside my car, as it says at Amazon (and also in the pack of the product) that it works with android phones (Motorola’s ones as well).
Unfortunately, it seems it does not work with our Nexus 6.
Has anyone own the same charger and have similar troubles?
Regards.
For our phones you need a Qualcomm certified charger that charges at 2amps 18w or higher.

Thanks,
But, despite not being a certified quick charger (Qualcomm technology) any charger should work anyhow whith the phone, right? I have myself plenty of old ones that works fine with the Nexus, but this one.

I looked the product up. And it seems some people received the 10w model. And they are having issues with charging phones that require 2.0A or higher. Maybe you should look into it. They might of sent you an older model.

Read that too, but, unfortunately (or fortunately) I received the 12w model (2 12w ports)... But it doesn't work as well.

I have the charger and it works fine to charge the phone. The post that states you need a Qualcomm Quick Charge certified charger is also completely false. You only need that if you want to take advantage of the fastest charging rates possible, but other chargers certainly work just fine, and I RARELY use the charger that came with my phone to charge it.

How about a bit of clarifications... does not charge AT ALL? Or charges, but slow?
If it does not charge at all, then you need to make sure that it is actually making contact with the cig lighter plug. Does the charger have a light? If so, does the light turn on? Have you tried a different USB wire? If you've tried a different wire, and can confirm that it is getting power from your cig lighter plug, and it still doesn't charge AT ALL, then your unit is defective. End of story.
If it charges, but slow, then its working as expected.
It doesn't charge at all.
Tested again with an iPad and with a blackberry and it works normally with both. It just does not works with my Nexus 6...
BTW, my Nexus 6 works with other car charges that I have (an old Samsung one and a belkin too).
Regards.

Check Cable Compatibility

I ran across this helpful little app and thought it may help others to check there cables. All of my google cables checked out okay but the one C to USB cable I got at amazon was not compatible with my 6P. good thing it only cost $8.00
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.mderezynski.checkr
Here's a write up Gizmodo did on what cables will work - http://gizmodo.com/a-google-enginee...source=gizmodo_facebook&utm_medium=socialflow
Here is a Google Spreadsheet of what compatible and what's not.
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet..._sfNVNzbA/htmlview?usp=docslist_api&sle=true#
I've heard all about these 'compatible' cables, in fact I have one of the unsupported/out-of-spec cables and it seems to work fine. What are the consequences of me continuing to use this cable?

Cable or charger but not the phone? I thought with all this USB type c stuff it was suppose to 'intelligently' calibrate chargers and devices to prevent damage or an I thinking of something else?
Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
yes when it's USB-C to USB-C, not when it's USB-C connector to USB-A which does not conform to USB-C specs. Makes sense?
Yeah OK that makes sense. Just seems like a step backwards in regards to acquiring and using cables. I'll now be hesitant of using any USB A-C cables that are are unknown or cannot be tested at the time.
Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
I have an USB B to C adapter (2 pack) from D&K which, according to this app says it is fine, but according to the google doc's spreadsheet it does not meet the requirements. Hmmmm.....
My Orly 4 pack of USB A to C does not register as compliant which agrees to the spreadhsheet of compatible products. Wonder how accurate this app is????
Quick question!!! If the cable is not safe to recharge the cable is it safe to only transfer file into the phone ?

Good question. I'm not sure if its safe or not but I did transfer some files from my laptop to my 6p with no issues. But as soon as I found out that the cable was not compatible I stop using it. Didn’t want to damage the USB port on my laptop.
I bought two cables from amazon and one of them is probably out of spec - it rapid charges my 6p. But given its purpose (to quickly charge my phone from my anker power bank) I like the extra speed in charging. Any real harm in using it? The power bank is qc2.0 compliant so its used to having a large draw on it.

I bought a generic cable from eBay. I checked both the supplied USB a to C cable with the phone and the generic one. Both cables passed the test. However after about 3 weeks I ran the test again, now it is showing me both Google and the generic one fail the test.

This is not the dash charger being sold. This was from the 1+2 release and yes it is bad/not optimized for charging.
I ordered Vandesail USB-c adaptor from amazon and it works just fine.
I'm using this on OP2 and I'm planning to use it with OP3 as well.

Yup. Using it now for a micro-usb car charger, but tested it with couple of wallchargers also. It was nice package cause it had two adapters on relatively small price and nice look. Got the silver adapters to match the OP3
I also got 2m type-c cable from Vandesail also, works with wallcharger like a charm.
is this http://www.amazon.in/OnePlus-USB-Ty...scsubtag=938d8938-8a24-4438-8ae0-22cc28b73eb5
good ? or any other good alternative
Hmm seems that the Vandesail adaptor worls only if inserted "backwards"
Seems odd because I thought Type-C plug is flipable. Have to try the adaptor on different kinds of setups.

I had nillkin adapter with meizu pro 5 (worked well), but lately I used to order their plus cable (it's microusb + type c all-in-one), quality is really awesome.
Doh oneplus genuine accessories are overpriced, never tried to buy them though.

I use either the oneplus adapter or the anker adapter, I recommend the anker though
I ordered/received this Alegant 4 pack and it works well with my car and BB 1.8a chargers - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0194Q21ZW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I also put in an order for a 10 pack from China where it'll take a month to come in but eh, its 4 bucks - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01G6HF8Q6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Any good one in India that works with Oneplus 3?? Probably less pricier one if possible

Right the Vandesail plug works with my aftermarket-cheapo-gasstation microUSB charger omnidirectionally, but with one Nokia (Lumia) microUSB car charger only one sidedly weird...
Any way the Vandesail seems to work properly on most cases.

Just because something isn't compliant with the spec does not make it inherently unsafe. It just means it does not comply.
For example razor makes their usb ports using green plastic to match their brand, this means they are not compliant with the standard colour coding, does it make them unsafe, no.

Those listed adapters/cables are not just "judged" by their look. they are tested and are found insafe for nexus P6 use.
I don't know if they are safe to use for our OP3, there is a chance they are cause OP3 uses usb-C 2.0.
however, I'm only using adapters/cables who are 100% safe. why take the risk?
Please read some more about Benson Leung , and you will understand what I mean.

Doesn't have to be usbc, as slim as possible, it could fit in a bag.

Well the slimmest ones are about the same dimensions as the phone but thicker, 5000mah, and are usually only 1A. So that would only get you something like 1.5 charges at a slow speed.
I would go with something like a 10000mah capacity. Those are usually 2.4A and now support Quick Charging 3.0 making it good for possible future devices. It'll also get you a good 3 whole charges at a decently fast speed. It's also still relatively pocketable especially compared to the bigger ones.
I have the older QC 2.0 version of this paired with a short 1 foot USB-A to type-C cable:
PowerCore 10000 with Quick Charge 3.0, Anker's First Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 Portable Charger, Backwards Compatible with All Versions of Qualcomm Quick Charge, For Samsung, iPhone, iPad and more
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01CZV9FUW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_00cKxbQ88GSKJ
It's on the short narrow yet thick side. I don't carry it around all the time but only when I definitely know I'll be using the phone a whole lot for videos/pictures. It's in the glove box most of the time for just in case.

I use the 10k mah xiaomi power bank. I think there is even a new version by now. I ordered it via banggood and I use a USB type a to c cable from aukey with it. I
have never managed to drain the battery within one weekend, it even lasts a full 5-day week with moderate - heavy use and I managed a full 7 days with my phone battery and the power bank. The latter of course with not so heavy use, but I was still impressed.

If you're using a type A to type C cable, it'll only charge at a 1.8A or 2.0A with 5V rate and not hit 3A mark. It might say "Charging rapidly" but actual numbers are lower than the stock charger. Basically, at 15% over 60 minutes (with the screen off and no use) you'll probably be around 70%. Stock gets you to 90%.

Plain and simple but alot useful.
I am using Kingston Mobilelite Wireless G2 (I think there is G3 now)
Powerbank, SD card, USB, Wifi/LAN bridge in one.
I can stream music/video, copy files and charge at the same time.
I would recommend buying Xiaomi Powerbank 10000 mAh Pro - it's designed for USB-C devices and charges Nexus 5X really well.

OTG + Charging cable or hub

Hello everyone,
I'm looking for good USB Type-C compliant OTG cables. I'm stumbled upon cables that provides nice feature of keeping the phone charged while utilizing the OTG port.
Take a look at this :
http://www.banggood.com/BASEUS-USB-C-Type-C-to-USB-3_0-HUB-Adapter-Charging-Date-Sync-For-New-Macbook-Chromebook-LETV-Phone-p-1030330.html?p=QZ14021624945201505Y
or this Y cable
https://www.amazon.com/Adapter-Macbook-Chromebook-Surface-Supportted/dp/B01AJMDQDG/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1471884770&sr=1-1&keywords=type-c+power+y+otg+cable
Do you think these are compatible with OnePlus 3 ? or would they damage the phone if used ?
Funny you should mention. I have the Amazon one arriving tomorrow (going to attempt it with a display link adapter now that they are compatible). Either way I'll update either tomorrow eve or Wednesday and let you know!
I'm currently testing nougat on my 5x and will try on both devices.
Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
And the jury is in. On both my one plus 3 and 5x you can not charge and use anything at the same time. The y cable will only supply power to whatever device you have plugged in.
