Remove Ad Pop Ups? - Remix OS Player

Is there a way to disable ads from popping up?

Root it and replace the hosts file with a no-ads one?

Sounds like a great idea. Are there any tutorial on how to root Remix OS Player?

I too would like to know how to remove them.

[Q] Ads pushed to status bar

After upgrading to Zeus 6.28O and timvdhoorns Dolby patch, I started getting ads. Basically a little star in the status bar and usually the ad is for a free Iphone or some ninja game.
I've never had ads before and can't imagine either of these upgrades would have caused this.
Anyone have similar issue or know how I can track it down?
Thanks
No. You have installed something that is causing it. Retrace your installs.
You can also check the apps permissions. Usually the ones that check for the phone boot up or have permission to make shortcuts are the culprit.
If you want to keep the application, you can install Lucky Patcher and modify it's permission so that it won't push ands anymore.
It must be an app you've installed. (usually a game)
then this is what you need to detect it: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.brosmike.airpushdetector

Wif Nag & Boot Sound

1) Anyone know how to disable the AT&T boot sound. ? I tried the Wanam Xposed pluggin, but it does not seem to work.
2) And wifi-connected nag ... Would love to see that gone !
Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks !
Me too... more the At&t sound....f-ing hate that sound. Low tech is to mute your phone or I was reading about https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.antweb.silentboot Silent Boot in the play store, but haven't installed it yet.... would like it to be a setting or module. The camera click sound isn't gone either (so annoying).

I don't like using apps like silent boot... instead, go to the source of the annoyance.
The boot sound is /system/media/audio/ui/PowerOn.ogg. Don't know what will happen on this phone, but on my LGOG, you could just remove the boot sound file altogether (I renamed mine) and have a nice silent boot. What I would actually do here for safety is make a backup copy of it, then put in its place a new PowerOn.ogg that I created myself that is half a second of silence. Just in case something really doesn't like the file to be missing altogether.
Of course, you have to be root to do this; get a shell (using terminal, adb, run an ssh daemon or whatever), and remount /system read-write before you will be able to write there.
as @jdock said, it is the poweron.ogg file. you can indeed get rid of this file or make your own without any negative effect to your gs5. i made my own and replaced it (need root) and set permissions to what most the other files in that location are.
what i would like to do is change the bootanimation so that it only does the samsung one and the bright white at&t one doesnt pop on. i have found that the samsung and at&t one are all one boot animation. so i'd have to edit the qmg file and take out the at&t pics. still trying to find out how to edit a qmg. the bootsamsungloop.qmg file is the at&t logo only file. i've moved those loop.qmg files out of the media folder but the bootsamsung.qmg STILL plays the at&t animation for some reason. the at&t animation has to be a part of the bootsamsung.qmg.
edit: the bootsamsungmini.qmg is the samsung only animation but the pics are not right. the samsung logo is not stretched out enough.
Thanks all !

I was able to turn off the sound by adding ".disabled" to the end of the poweron.ogg.. So mine now reads PowerOn.ogg.disabled
And it works for me

Reduce amount of options on sharing files/photos?

This might even be fixable via OTA software as far as I know, but is there a method available to reduce the amount of apps you must choose in order to share something on your device? Its just annoying when you don't even use 2/3 of the apps for sharing, most of which aren't used at all. I know I can delete the bloatware and it will reduce some.....
Attached a screenshot in case clarification is needed. Even if you are sharing a widely know method and want to toss in a smart comment, I deserve it if a fix exists and I am missing it. TIA
very simple, apps that you dont use, get rid of them. or go into the main settings, choose apps, now disable the system apps that you dont use. or, if you have root, delete those apps that you dont use.

There are some obvious apps I know I can delete without system harm. I guess I can pretty easily search for what is 'safe' to delete, such as below.....
Apps I don't use:
Messenger (I use Messaging for SMS/MMS)
Bluetooth
Hangouts
Google+ (I'm sure I can delete)
Photos (Picasa/Google)
Kindle (I'm sure I can delete)
AT&T Locker
But here is the real twist........
Apps I use but would never send via:
Audio Manager
Tapatalk
Convert to PDF
Android Beam
AirDroid
ES File Explorer 'Send by LAN'
ES File Explorer 'Save to'
In a word, no.

How to change picture of lockscreen?

ROM 5.1.1I removed ads of lockscreen without root. Now i want to customize picture of screensaver. Can you help me? Pls!
You will need root. The non-ad lock screen images are contained in /system/priv-app/SystemUI/SystemUI.apk in its res/raw-hdpi-v4 folder.
Now, somebody please prove me wrong. There must be an easier way than unzipping the apk, replacing the files with others of same name and size, rezipping, and replacing the apk. Maybe a lock screen app?
Wondered this too gonna make the switch to a room soon since I don't use stock video players anyway
Sent from my Amazon Fire 2015

Thanks you very much.
And i removed ads on lockscreen last night but today, it come back :v. Rom 5.1.1 seem unstable
I had the same experience, as have others. I can't remember if I found a solution or not before I rooted, but ever since I rooted I haven't seen the ads come back. You might get away with temporarily rooting, killing the ads, and then not making root permanent if you don't want it.
Try the SuperTool.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/amazon-fire/development/amazon-fire-5th-gen-supertool-root-t3272695
I've just had a look at the latest version's code and it looks like it automatically does the temp-root thing as part of its 5.1.1 ad removal.
Also note that using something like link2sd or Titanium Backup to disable the app "Special Offers" will stop it, but it's not clear to me if root is required...I would assume so.
So, before I put all that together I went looking through my bookmarks to try to find out if there was a more permanent way to remove the ads without root and instead I found this more detailed post about changing the wallpapers (for a different Amazon device):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1898198
You'll notice that it says a different .apk filename than I did; that's because of the different device. Procedure should be the same for us but I haven't tried it. Anyway, the second post says something that's very relevant for me: If you merely delete all the wallpapers you get a plain black background. I like a plain black background, and that's a lot less mucking about than replacing files and making sure their permissions are correct. I might try it and see if it works on the KFFOWI.

I gave it a try but I didn't like how spammy it is and its also loaded with other stuff which I didn't care for . At the moment I'm trying File Manager, its pretty simple without all those bells and whistles which I like, thanks

I use ROM Toolbox Pro. Has a number of useful tools including Root Browser (explorer) which allows you to see and manage (ie delete) files. I bought the "Pro" version years ago and since have forgotten the price on Play Store but seemed well worth it. I know they have a "Lite" version for free that probably has ads. They also break the individual apps out, including the Root Browser (I believe for free) if you don't want the other apps in the toolbox, but having a terminal emulator, ROM installer, boot animation tool, and others seems useful.
Other file manager apps include Solid Explorer, Astro File Manager, and Amaze File Manager to name a few. I know lots of people switch from ES File to Solid Explorer after ES went spammy. I tried Amaze File Manager... it has a pretty and user friendly user interface, but I always had success with ROM Toolbox Pro so I always go back to it.
