Remix player no hardware keyboard support? - Remix OS Player

I have downloaded and run Remix OS Player on two different computers now and neither one of them has captured my hardware keyboard, I can use the onscreen keyboard but that really lessens the functionality and is half the point of having it run on a desktop. Can anyone advise as to how to resolve this issue? The options, advanced options, and the OS options are so dummy proofed it is impossible to do anything advanced. Is there config files I can edit or...?

I had this happen once right after installation and running the Google Play Store activator and couldn't login in to the Play Store because I couldn't type on the physical keyboard. I shutdown the player, restarted it, and then the problem went away. Might work for you.

Hi.
I have this too, regardless if I restart or not. I actually can't figure out what I have to change in language and imput options to have my keyboard back. The only thing I can do is using the virtual keyboard. I think this happened when I changed the language to french, or tried the virtual keyboard for the first time before then deactivating it. Since I can't find a reset config to default, I'm going to reinstall.
If anyone have a guess how getting my azerty hardware keyboard back, could he please explain ? I find the way the multiple language/imput options are displayed isn't very clear and whatever I do it doesn't work. I'm visibly not alone since this thread is already open, and it may be useful.
Edit : looks like the config files are not in the remix folder. After new installation in different folder, it's directly the same with the new separated machine.

There never was any actual ability to use the physical keyboard even though the settings say it's present. No amount of fiddling with the unintuitive settings seems to correct the problem. My keyboard is a Saitek Eclipse USB keyboard on Windows 7 x64. I imagine this must be a limitation of the emulator or some basic setting. The two systems I have run this on are very similar setups with the exception that the other one uses a PS2 mouse and keyboard. Shortcuts like CTRL + ALT to unbind keyboard and mouse function normally so why not typing inside the emulator?

I don't understand. Are you saying you have never been able to use your computer's keyboard ? Well sorry, you already said it sooner too. I didn't read it was the same person.
The thing is I could use it till two days ago, and I'm not the only one. I could type the physical keyboard at first start of the player without doing anything, it was default. Then probably messed up with the options I touched and can't have it back. RemixOS live or hardware installed have the keyboard detected and used as default. So does the player (except maybe you but it must just be that your keyboard isn't recognized or I don't know what.
Detection and options problem here. No lack in feature like I understand you are thinking.

I am saying that there has been not one moment I could use my computer's physical keyboard in Remix OS player, not for the very first initial run nor extracting it to a different folder, it works just fine on both computers for Windows use though. I am using the PS2 keyboard as I type this... I wouldn't think it would be difficult for the player to bind to a generic Human Interface Device or a USB keyboard... Both Mice work just fine so I figure it's just a bad config file or something. Hopefully someone figures it out soon as it's annoying to say the least.

Since I had it then lost it. Could one user or more, whose physical keyboard works since the beginning and who never changed anything to default config, screen all his/their language/keyboard relater configs please ? This may do.

Guess they don't care... oh well... Nox it is.

If this can help some people forced to use virtual keyboard too. After looking for a suitable virtual keyboard, I ended using Minuum Keyboard and Hacker's Keyboard app. The first takes the less place possible, and the 2nd looks like it has the better ratio between space used and easy access to all keys (it's sort of computer keyboard replica) ... waiting for this issue resolve if it is resolved a day, this will sorta do the trick ... But the problem really sucks.

@Saiber77 @dzeek @Esdeve - Sorry to be late with this reply. I did share your issue with our product manager and he's been working on a fix with the developer team. We believe we've isolated the issue to the Gaming toolkit causing some incompatibilities with certain hardware drivers and configurations. We're still in the middle of working on it but I'll definitely update when there's news.
@Saiber77 - And, we always read and care... just somewhat short on resources and we just finished a week-long public holiday here.
Thanks!

I just installed Remix Player on my Intel NUC and find that my keyboard is not recognized at all. I have a Corsair K70 keyboard that besides being an incredible mechanical keyboard works otherwise great under Windows 10. Hopefully Jide can provide a solution.

Wow, public holidays, devs know what it is and have that too ?
Whatever. I run on a laptop, but if you need info about hardware I'll give. Thought it's already done in the hardware thread. Sorry not being able to remember exactly since what action from me the keyboard stopped being recognized (and I don't think I tried the gaming toolkit, if I'm right about it being the d pad we can see on the right).

Hello. New user here.
This might seem weird but I also had the trouble of not being able to type anything inside the player (was trying to login to the Play Store but couldn't type in my email address). I can use the CTRL+ALT keys to get the pointer out and I see the pinch? option when I hold down the CTRL key. But when I installed the terminal/command window app, the keyboard began working inside the player (weird right?)

Just to notify. It's not solved : still no keyboard.

Windows 10
Microsoft K830 Keyboard
I just found this OS; but like others crtl+alt is working, but nothing else. Hope it can be resolved so I can use the keyboard to play games

how can i enable virtual keyboard?

yea the keyboard outside American is pretty bad,my French keyboard here is not supported very well, but the player is still in early beta stage so can't complain here.there are better emulator .

The dev team has been alerted to this thread and the issues being expressed here. I'll update when there are either fixes, or if there's something you guys could help us with to solve these keyboard issues.
As for holidays, our devs work at least through Saturdays and some work Sundays as well. However, for state appointed holidays, it's illegal to order staff to work, so it's entirely up to the staff.
Thanks again!

i used to have the same problem, but i get to fix it making this:
- Open Remix Player
- Go to the last button on the white bar on the right side of the screen emulator (3-dot button)
- On the new pop-up screen, go to settings, and change the keyboard shortcuts option to Emulator Device ( default)
- Go and check if Remix Player can recognize Keyboard Input, if not, go back and change again the keyboard shortcuts option to Virtual Device and check if now Remix Player recognize Keyboard Input.
I hope that this steps can solve the problem for everyone.
psd: I don't know if it's needed to do this every time the emulator runs, if the keyboard is not working each time the emulator starts, then i assume that its have to be done this if you want to get to work your keyboard.

If you have the issue, can please try @starfoxcom 's solution?
We think this could be possibly fix the issue. We are trying to fix this issue fundamentally.

Keyboard keeps sticking on number selection

Has anyone else had this. Using the touch diamond qwerty keyboard (not the tiny MS one) I go to enter information and the keyboard is stuck on the number and symbols page. No amount of pressing ABC will switch it back to the text entry mode.
I had had this error on two seperate Daimonds. One with world wide english and now one with the UK rom. It is driving me mad.
I've the same problem with both keyboards (the full one and the compact one). But until now, no solution
Regards,
Flossi
I have purchased the cootek keyboard based on someone elses suggestion. It is hugely better. They have a qwerty one as well as some other faster input ones all part of the package and it was only $12 with free trial.
I have this problem too. To get the keyboard back I have to select the compact qwerty keyboard and then the full qwerty again. But that only works until I have to open the input panel again. It's very frustrating and has only just happened. The last think I did was install the Live Mesh application but I don't see how that could have effected the keyboard like this. Is there a place in the registry where I can set the default settings for the keyboard?
Have you got PCM keyboard installed. Mine only did it when that was installed and as soon as I uninstalled it fixed the other KB's. I have had the same problem on two different phones but only when PCM is installed.
I haven't installed any other keyboards, this just seems to have happened all of a sudden. However I thought I would search for forums again using different keywords and I found this thread;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=412234&highlight=keyboard+stuck
It suggested a registry location where keyboard settings are located, I set them to the values suggested in the thread and so far my keyboard has worked normally. I hoping that it's going to stay that way.
oh right thats weird because it is the same problem I had but it was because of this third party KB. I wonder if there is anything else you have installed that could have affected it. I would try uninstalling a few 3rd party apps and seeing if that fixes it.
If it happens again I'll give that a try, as it is I have my phone just the way I like it.
Thinking back I did make some keyboard changes, it was ages ago so it slipped my mind. I used a registry hack to turn off defaulting to T9 on the keyboard.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2482780&postcount=12
Looking back it makes use of the same registry settings. This could have been the cause, but I made the changes ages ago and the current problem only happened recently. Still, it's fixed now and I'm happy.
Life saver!

You are a fricking life saver (as is studz who originally gave the solution). I thought I was going to have to reflash my ROM. It happened to me after installing the TouchPal SIP. I decided I didn't care of it, so I went back to compact qwerty and suddenly it didn't work! The part that was messed up on mine was HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Layouts\e001 0409\
"Layout Text" and "Ime File."

[Q] Soft Keyboard with Direction pad

My Droid 1 has a direction pad on the slide out keyboard which makes it nice for moving the cursor when entering in text instead of using your finger.
Does anyone know of a keyboard that can be installed that has a directional pad included? I got fat fingers and moving the cursor is hard enough lol. I'm running a few releases behind the newest Vegan build (just haven't backed up everything yet).
Thanks!
Bryan
(just realized this might want to be moved to the general section, not themes and apps.... sorry)
Smart keyboard use cursor keys.
Smart keyboard pro
Anyone actually managed to use them
I installed smart keyboard and Ultra keyboard but even when enabled the don't replace the existing keyboard. ( Vegan5.1 )
Using it now with tnt lite 3.1.2
Install with mod as discussed in other threads
Thumb keyboard is great for this tablet. Has cursor keys, and is easy to use. Can setup the layout for different size devices too.
Thanks for confirmation, I'll look for it

Do you actually know how to enable the keyboard? You have to select the checkmark in settings to let your tablet know it is available but to actually use the keyboard... You open something with a text box and then long press in the box. A popup should come up with input method as a selection. Tap that and all your keyboards will be there to pick from.
I only say this because I don't think you were doing the input method, change the keyboard thing...
Yes, I have them enabled the but I don't get the pop up to sellect the keyboard when I want to type. ( Working fine on my Desire phone)
Update, stupid me - long press in the text box
I am using thumb keyboard also and it has a great directional pad and seems to have great support. But either its the touch screen of the gtab or thumb keyboard cuz there is some serious issue of "lag" or lack of response. I am actually blaming the grab touch screen cuz I find it unresponsive in other places at times.

There was a thread awhile ago about touchscreen sensitivity, and a calibration apparently at boot. Search for 'calibration.ini'. It fixed the problem for lots of people.

I have found the directional keys on occasion to be a little slow myself. If you want to do the calibration of the screen just create a empty text file named calibration.ini and place it in the internal sdcard. I have one on the external also because I can never remember where it looks for it. Then reboot you tablet without touching the screen and it will do it's thing. You won't see it do anything, but it seems to work.
thumb keyboard
i also use thumb keyboard. goto handango to purchase it. less than 2 bux and its the best keyboard for gtab
ill have to give these a try out! Thanks!

Saw the video of it, looks great. Searched for it but can't find that version yet. Hope it will show up as an update soon.
OK, what am I doing wrong...
I installed several different keyboards (the free versions until I know they work for me) and I can not get any of them to be selected. I go into the settings and I see them listed and no matter how many times I press the checkbox they will not select. If I go into the settings for any of these new keayboards I get a force close.
Running TNT Lite 4.10 now. Same thing was happening on older versions.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

That is a known issue with TnT. There settings menu doesn't let you select keyboards. I don't use TnT anymore but there is a way to change the settings app to the normal Android type, select the keyboard, and then there is a way to go back to the TnT settings menu and they stick. Pain in the A.. You can't just change the settings menu and leave it because it hoses up other things. There are a couple other ways I think people do it but you just need to search for "alternate keyboards" or something like that.
I personally can't stand anything TnT and run vegaN.
I get a force close when using either Smart Keyboard Pro or Thumb Keyboard. Force closes only began after repartitioning .....any ideas?? I was successfully running Smart Keyboard Pro before repartition.

Bluetooth keyboard, mouse and orientation

I went out and grabbed a Microsoft Bluetooth Portable 6000 keyboard, which is fantastic, by the way. I purchased it with the sole purpose of using it with CM7 w/Bluetooth and aDOSBox. Yeah, I want to kick it old school.
First, when in landscape mode, it will not reorient the arrow keys. Up arrow is left, Left arrow is down and so forth. This is simply the keyboard not being remapped when orientation changes, however... I'm not seeing a simple way to compensate for this.
Any thoughts?
Also, I'm tempted to see what a Bluetooth mouse does on this. I'm finding that the keystroke standards in Android don't follow normal "Windows and clones" methodology. So, having to reach up and touch the screen displaces you enough to make it inconvenient to perform certain tasks.
Is there a proper mouse implementation either in Android or in the CM7 stack? If not, are they any APKs that would satisfy this?
I'm looking for a laptop replacement, if you get the gist of what I'm trying to do here. I want to be able to type a book on a Nook.
Ironic, eh?
I don't think android has the ability to change the key mappings based on orientation.. you might be able to write an app that would do this though. The easiest way to do this is to have to key maps and have your app switch between them when it detects and orientation change. That might not be very efficient but it would be fairly simple to write, I think.
As for the mouse, I can't comment on using it with the nook but I have used a bt mouse with other android devices and it works fine. It would just as you would expect.
I bought also a chinese flexible BT keyboard but has some lag sometimes.
Remapping of keys would interest me also.
There is a fix for the rotation problem. Also for getting the "<" and ">" buttons working. Search isn't working for me and i don't feel like manually combing the forums for it, but it's in a thread labelled "chisleu's mod" or something like that.
edit, found the link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1008612
I'm going to try this out. This is likely exactly what I'm looking for. I don't expect to use the keyboard in portrait mode... I'll let everyone know how it works for me.
I will eventually be cool enough to write something like this myself, but until then... Script Kiddie, AWAY!

How do I tell which keyboard file my wireless keyboard uses?

So I bought the HP Touchpad Wireless keyboard for my TP and love it. My only problem at this point is that some of the buttons don't work on Android. Obviously the Card button which was meant for WebOS does nothing here, and even though the Play/Pause button works, the skip track prev and next do not. I see that most of the keys are still sending inputs file the KeyEvent program, but are not mapped properly.
I tried changing one of the keyboard files (when googling this it was recommended I change qwerty.kl) to properly map to the input the keyboard was sending, but it didn't appear to have any effect. My suspicion is that perhaps the HP BT keyboard uses something like /system/usr/keylayout/Generic.kl instead of qwerty.kl, but how do I know for sure? There are like a dozen in there. Is there a way I can make a customized one and somehow tell CM9 to point to that layout file when the BT keyboard connects?

Question Keyboard Cover Right-Click abysmal -- any solutions?

I've had a Galaxy Tab S7+ with the official keyboard cover, and now a Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra with it's new keyboar cover. The new tablet and keyboard cover are great, but like the old one, it suffers some critical flaws that make it difficult to use in a serious context and I'd love to see someone who knows more about the Android input system weigh in on it.
Why is right-click such a hard thing to get right on this device? It seems like Samsung have hobbled the trackpad for two-finger pressed for right-click, it's so very inconsistent for where it works and where it doesn't.
If I plug a USB mouse directly into the device, problem solved, no longer do I suffer right-click not working where it should.
Problem:
I have a hosted version of Visual Studio Code I use to do remote development work, it runs in a docker in on a server in my garage. Cool. But with the Samsung settings for two-finger clicks set to "open-context menu", the trackpad fails to register right-clicks in hosted VSC, why? If I use a regular mouse, it works just fine. If I do alonger press on items with the trackpad, it does right-clicks just fine, but that'd slow and awful. Just trying it now, there's even single-click events that don't work with the trackpad that do work with a USB mouse. Bizarre.
Exact same problem withr Microsoft's RDP application. USB mouse works as expected, trackpad? Nope. It almost seems like the trackpad input is been treated as finger input rather than android cursor input for some reason.
My other pet peeve about the trackpad, for both the S7 and S8 is that if you start typing on the keyboard, the trackpad gets fully disabled, and there is a delay for it to become usable again. So you're forever typing something, then poking away at the trackpad for it to come back alive again, very annoying. The trackpad automatic disabling behaviour is not configurable either, none of this is and it keeps the device just one step away from being truely great in my opinion.
Does anyone have any way to solve this issues? Am I going to have to root my device to use some sort of app to override the input coming from the keyboard cover?
Have you tried tapping with 2 fingers on the touchpad? Alot of touchpads has tap with 1 finger does left click and tapping with 2 fingers does right click. Instead of clicking down the right side of track pad.

Yes I have. The right-click on the touchpad function only works in some places. If a use two finger taps on the touch pad on the home screen, it'll bring up a context menu, where as the same two finger tap in visual studio code web or in remote desktop just does left click actions and doesn't bring up a right click menu. Whereas, if I use a USB mouse, right click works in ALL those scenarios, it's very strange.

What app do you use for remote thing? Could be a issue with app you use to remote control visual studio code. You could try Remote Desktop app from microsoft instead and see if right click works better.
Update: Maybe not. Tried it now and right click does not even work at all in the Remote Desktop app from Microsoft. Weird, but i would like to still know app you use. That brings up visual studio code like that up only with nothing else.
Update #2: Nvm after closer look at video it does show bar on bottom and i could see you are remote controlling on windows xp device right?

So, Visual Studio Code in the video is literally just running through the web browser (you can save specific web sites so they show up on your home screen and run without the need for an address bar, like I did with this). So Chrome or Kiwi Browser, what ever, same issue. For remote desktop stuff (not shown) I use Microsoft RDP or Parsec, both exhibit issues ONLY with the trackpad (or any bluetooth trackpad I connect, the Apple Magic Trackpad for example). The issue goes away when I use a USB mouse.
Samsung need to fix their trash-tier trackpad software so real human beings can use it, and it behaves like a mouse.
Before this I had an Apple iPad Pro, with the fancy keyboard cover that has a mouse trackpad. It did all this stuff just fine.
EDIT: I just realised why you thought I was using Windows XP. The bottom bar of visual studio code just happens to have the same colour scheme as the old start bar from Windows XP, that's funny! That's actually the information bar for Visual Studio Code, like build status, etc.
Hello, I have same issue when using my Samsung S8 Ultra as second monitor for my windows notebook. If I try to right click on official samsung keyboard it does not work, while I can type and left click without any issue. Any Idea? Of course also two finger tap does not work.
