I'm new so I can't post links but the first one is on a website called Android geeks and I found it after searching att s6 edge root. The other one is on a website called tech chomps. Hopefully they can be found...
Found some website claiming to have hacked kernels capable of root in my annual scouring of the web praying that I can regain control of my phone...should I have hope in this?
Just thought id share my finding here, for anyone passing by please exercise caution when browsing these sites, I know nothing about them and just found them. I am hoping someone on here can drop in about the legitimacy of these sites before I test them.
I haven't heard of those but am doubtful there is root unless it's for devices that are on old software. I just got an s6 edge thats on 6.0.1, no root.
If you want root, don't buy ATT devices. Most T-Mobile devices work on ATT network (with LTE and all), and have unlocked bootloaders allowing root. That is my understanding at least and my experience with the Note 4.

Will a root ever be possible? I'm new to this and is there no chance that I will be able to root my 6.0.1 att s6 edge?

To be honest, I don't know, but I would say odds are better that you wont get root than that you will.

Those are from 2 years ago IVe had rooted phones since then.
What I'm saying is if they said that back then why was I able to get root on other phones?
Root <> unlocked bootloader....
That being said, no one knows if it will get root or not. It depends if a suitable exploit is discovered to do it. 5.1.1 plugs a few of the known exploits, so it won't happen the exact same way it did in the S6.
Only time will tell.
Also keep in mind that root can mean different things too... Permanent, temporary, root but with no system modification, etc... No one knows which we will get, if any.
keep in mind that most of the talented Devs have abandoned Samsung, so that might make it even worse
Doesn't the Note 5 have the same hardware as the S6/S6E? Seems like it should be able to be done like those phones but I don't know if that's true or not.
I'm thinking about getting this phone, but will hold off until proven root on AT&T.

Let's assume I have my "how to root" links bookmarked and ready to go, but like a good boyscout I want to understand the gotchas/subtleties before I cliff jump. I'm also within my 15 days to exchange my s6edge AT&T for an unlocked one at Best Buy, which I plan to do today... :highfive:
(I'm technically savy, but a real newb in the world of android versions, manufacturer changes, and carrier versions and conflicts...) :crying:
1) How do I do a full ROM-level backup before beginning my adventures in rooting? Titanium Backup is no good since I need root to use it. I'd like an iPhone-style backup that I can just restore should I brick my phone.
2) After I exchange my phone I'm going to immediately airplane-mode it to prevent autoupdates (my current phone already autoupdated to unrootable OF4)... once I root how do I effectively get-latest? I'd obviously like the latest security updates, and 5.1 if I can manage it, and to maintain root.
3) AT&T doesn't have 5.1.... but if I go unlocked then can I run 5.1 on AT&T? (I've been iPhone forever -- carriers messing with you is really foreign to me). On a related note, can AT&T send some update/profile-change OTA to my phone that will conflict with updates I'm doing locally? If so any tips to avoid this?
4) An unlocked phone will perform just as well on AT&T as an AT&t phone, right?

It's likely any replacement phone you get at this point will have OF4, or at least OF3 on it. It will likely be unrootable out of the box.
There is no current bootloader unlock for ATT branded devices - if you are lucky enough to get a rootable device, you can run a the two roms in the ATT section. You can run XtreStoLite v 1.5 from the regular S6 section, and maybe other 5.0.2 roms from there as well, I'm not aware of any others being tried.
In either case, we will not have 5.1.1 until after ATT releases it.

Thanks for the info -- this is where I get confused. If it's a 925F, and I put my AT&T sim in it, it isn't an "AT&T branded device", right? So the bootloader shouldn't be all locked up by AT&T? I should be able to put any GSM sim in there and run on that network... so can't I just do what I want with the hardware at that point without AT&T controlling me?

How about a simpler version...
- Can I use the "download booster" function (that AT&T removed) if I have an unlocked 925F on AT&T? Can I use 5.1 on AT&T with a non-AT&T edge?
I'm trying to work out if AT&T controls all phones or just the AT&T branded phones (925A).

Oh, guess I misunderstood your situation. Since you have an F model, you should be able to do whatever you want in terms of root/rom, just follow the instructions over there. I think as long as your APN is set up correctly, you should be set. As long as its working now, worst case would be full factory reflash of what you're currently running. Just remember if you root in a way that trips Knox, it's tripped forever.
I think I've seen people posting that they had download booster enabled while on ATT, but I don't recall seeing any comments about whether or not it actually worked.

I know quite a few people have these tablets from Verizon and AT&T and I just don't understand why getting these rooted is not a priority. I have been searching and havent even seen a remote discussion about root for the Verizon or AT&T models. Can someone enlighten me as to why this doesn't seem to be a priority on one of Samsung's high end tablets which happen to be on two of the most popular carriers here in the US?
if I'm not mistaken, the main reason is because Samsung hasn't released the source code for this device/software and the root method available on the forums breaks LTE communication. I'm still waiting for root as well. Hope it gets done soon.
Because they have locked bootloaders and aren't able to be rooted with any current methods working on the unlocked models.
Kingroot at the moment is the best bet, a few have managed to root bootloader locked devices with it including the tab s.
I bought a Verizon Galaxy S6 Edge few months ago. Now I moved to T-Mobile. I am using the phone right now without any issues.
There is still Verizon crap on it that I cannot uninstall. Is it possible to install stock or preferably, T-Mobile firmware on this device?

The phones are identical except the firmware. Why would it not work? I would like to do the same so I can access better reception and wifi calling. There's literally nothing different Hardware wise between the diff carrier versions other than what each carrier unlocks or blocks. Can someone give a more detailed reason why it won't work?
This is a great question.... I'd like to know the same, BUT, for me, Tmobile charges too much for single service here in Colorado.

As far as I'm aware I believe the Note 5, based on the Exynos7420 uses a different modem chip in each carrier. Originally I thought the S6 Edge was still a universal World Phone. But even rooted, some people have still had problems actually migrating from Verizon to T-Mobile.
I've had a tester somehow manage to install a TMobile modem on an AT&T Note5, but it messed up the Device Root Key. Which I do believe is the "hardware baked" signature used to decrypt firmware.

Look at the instructions posted here to remove bloatware. I believe if you substitute the correct counterpart firmware the process is still doable. There is also the De-Bloater v3.90 app that should work as well.

I go out of rooting my phone a while ago and went to go root my G6 to find out that it's not rootable. Moreover recently I found that Verison is blocking the bootloader on pretty much all of its phones. I looked at the Note 9 and I really like it but I want to be able to root it and everything. is there a way that I can get a note 9 and use it with full functionality (IDC about the Samsung pay and that stuff though, just the speeds and connectivity) in the US. i am willing to change carriers to Tmobile, but I have also heard something about the N960F not able to use band aggregation in the US. If i want to root and have a good phone will i have to go all the way back to the nexus 6p or are there other modern phones that can do this?

You can get the SM-N9600 and root that phone. Then you will be able to get wifi calling and 4g+ with it also being rooted. This version is th HK one. I have this version and so far everything is good and I like the purchase I made. You can find some on Swappa (which is where I bought mine for $715).
Do please though research on which phone you prefer and what root options are available for that phone.

We haven't been able to unlock bootloader on Samsung devices for a few years now.
I should say US Samsung devices. I meant to clarify that.
