Any ways to remove the ads with the build version V6.6? - BLU R1 HD Questions & Answers

Please let me know if you guys know a ways to remove the ads!

No way that we know of. You could return it for another one and NOT let it connect to wifi or put in a sim until after you have relashed it. All phones are shipping with 6.1, so it was your mistake to let it update.

Yeah I know, I didn't done the research before I made the update.
Thanks for letting me know tho!

Things just got more complicated because Amazon has stopped selling the phone! We will have to wait and see what happens next. If it were me, I would contact them right away and find out if a replacement is available still.

Yeah I just realized that too, but I think I'll just keep the phone. because I just found a temporary way to remove the ads, so it won't bother me that much lol.

Developer options > Running services > Kill/Murder amazon services = Lockscreen doesn't display adverts.

What? Amazon stopped selling this phone? What does that mean, for us current users?

Not sure. All I know is literally I bought the phone the day before it was taken down. I'm so glad I did.

I'm not sure you should be happy for it, since discontinued sales means discontinued support soon..

I'm not too worried about that. I can see why it could be distressing though.

So, I'm an app developer and looked into this lately. The latest updates have hardened the lockscreen ads against removal - that includes against doing the above where it only causes a minimized ad on the lockscreen until reboot VS a fullscreen one unless there's a notification available.
(There's at least one way I didn't test such as reverting to the original shipped version of the amazon apps which could maybe work, idk.)
So the above can also be done using an app that displays a non-dismissable notification and starts on boot so that there's no longer any attention needed. Again, this just forces no fullscreen ads.
A newly found Linux flaw, which may work on the device as someone seems to have it working on android, looks like it could be used to gain access needed to completely remove the ads, but I don't really care to look into it and you do so at your own risk.
And of course as there's custom roms available, they won't have ads as well.
Stuff like lockscreen replacement apps - well I tried one and the amazon ad still appeared - the ad developer should have tested against these anyway. There seems to be better developer access to the lockscreen with android N that could in theory work against the ads, but the device OS isn't android N and I feel they wouldn't update it regardless if the ads were easily removed as that would be counterproductive.
If something isn't correct or becomes outdated in this post, just say below.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/r1-hd/how-to/blu-r1-hd-v6-6-dirtycowed-f-amazon-root-t3490882
Now that we can root and unlocked the V6.6 version, anyway to remove the ads?

Why not just install the non-Amazon version of the rom V12 using Colton's easy method, and then update it to V17 using vampire's method. The non-Amazon roms don't have the ads to begin with, so there's nothing that needs removing.

Please help - really wanna change my phone's OS ;(

I bought an HTC Desire 510 few months ago cause my Xperia ARC died (was the best phone I ever had).
Now I am very disappointed with the HTC 510, mainly cause of it's awful operating system bundled by google ALL OVER the place
The user interface is a one big disaster, so much annoying and unnecessary stuff... besides the annoying bloatware (parental control app? srsly?)
I really wanna root this phone and change it's OS to those similar of gingerbreed, cyanogen etc but I don't know how to do this with my current phone
and don't even know what custom operating systems are available for the model I have.
What annoys me about the user interface:
*Often lowers the earphone music volume without my permission then gives me this annoying warning that making it higher will damage my hearing - srsly?
*Screen tends to lower it's lighting and back again by itself while I use the phone
*A button at the bottom of the menu that looks like a "home logo" will open somekind of useless google page each time I drag that button up by mistake.
*Terrible and irremovable Gallery app, not to mention it displays images in uncomfortable way, it also features a slideshow which often plays automatically without me asking it to each time I enter a photo album.
*Poorly made irremovable alarm clock app
*Other forced google apps installed on my phone which i don't use and can't just get rid of
*Bad just bad option of organizing apps, well for me atleast, back on my Xperia ARC I used to organize my apps by "commonly used apps" feature, went great, here it's just wacky, it doesn't do it automatically after you set it to organize the following way. So I find myself surfing through all the useless apps to find the app I need at the app menu.
Can anyone give me guidance or recommendation for an alternative Operating System I could replace this horrific google product infecting my phone since I bought it?
I presume this phone would become amazing with a new custom OS, did anyone changed the OS on their HTC 510? if yes what you use and how is it?
Also I know to root this device you first need to unlock the bootloader, is there anything else important I need to know when rooting it?

Dude really. Maybe you should have checked out the forums of this model B4 you bought it. That being said, since you say you are unlocked and rooted then doing a quick search should get you everything you need to rid yourself of all that is bothering you. Depending on what you have and with whom there are some pretty good options out there to use. Check it out and start doing it.
Or you could just throw your phone in the lake, buy and Iphone and forget about it. Bam!

I actually planned to buy Galaxy 3, heard it was good but also had slow loading problems, then I was offered an alternative of this HTC for the same price and faster working system. It was a spontaneous buy.
And I thought buying an Iphone but changed my mind cause of the "itunes" thing.

Ok, how do I deal with the "menu" thing where I want to authomatically always to arrange my icons by last used but cant right now?
I tried themes, but those are so intrusive and full of advertising, well those I tried so far.. (if there are any good ones to recommend I'd give a try) and how about disabling the annoying requests of updates I don't even need? <--(forgot to mention this issue) And how about issues 1-3 I mentioned? any idea how i deal with those then? You talk as if it's so easy, show me then.
About the lake.. better to throw to those who came up with this terrible phone idea

All I can say (and I never said it was easy) is for you to subscribe to all of the HTC 510 Forums and start reading thru the threads. In your case, the most helpful one being this one..."Help & Troubleshooting" if you can not find answers to your particular questions then I would assume that means we just aren't there yet. This is a pretty new device after all. I wouldnt know about themes being I am on custom ROM and that is not an option. You should maybe go for the Unlock and root your phone method. Try out some of the ROMs available. I believe that will alleviate many of your issues since the stock ROM that came with these units have multiple issues. Many of them are the same ones you are experiencing. I wish you well and Read, Read, Read.
Good Luck

You should definitely read through the forums if you haven't so far. I have read/skimmed every thread here about our phone and I almost have no questions or concerns except for some ideas for a couple of issues that haven't been brought up yet or just not yet done.
I only use Sense Home or Dodol Launcher and they both don't have the option to sort by last used, check out Nova, Apex, or some other launcher.
As far as the update is concerned, you can follow this post by LarryBoyG, if you plan to stay on stock. I'm sure a custom ROM will be built that includes the update, unless everyone just wants to wait for Lollipop.

Info overload : Please help me turn an SV98LN OS 5.4.0.0 into a NEXUS flavoured unit

Hi all, appreciate best practice is always to read posted guides but I'm getting kinda old and too many threads are only relevant at particular points in time when the 5th Gen Fire was newer. So basically I'm lost in conflicting info on the guides and need some direction.
Starting point is i) I've got 'basic' experience of rooting and flashing roms, so my PC has got ADB drivers etc. ii) I have a stock OS 5.4.0.0 5th Gen Fire which is my elderly mothers and the intention is to get the crap OS removed and make it a simple Nexus 7'like device.
Can somebody please give me some step-by-step advice. I'm at the point where the device is developer enabled and ABD enabled. But the guides I've seen are all based on old OS's so I fear the whatever I try next will just brick the unit.
Thx in advance
As of now, 5.3.2.1 - 5.4.0.0 can not be rooted, much less have the bootloader unlocked to install a custom ROM.
aww bummer
OK second question : How should I treat the term "As of now"? Do you think there is any likelihood of a 5.4.0.0 root solution happening soon? i.e. weeks or months?
If its not gonna be a while, then I might just install the non-root google-play stuff and just shift the bloaty stuff out of sight if I can.

EDIT: The usual warning: I am not responsible for any damage done to your device. If using ANY of these guides, you're doing so at your own risk.
That's about your only option at the moment. You can use the guide here, which will install the appropriate google services needed. You can then use this guide to manually 'uninstall' system/Amazon applications (you aren't really uninstalling them, just disabling them). Or use the automatic tool here, which will uninstall a significant number of the Amazon 'bloatware' and install the Google services and a few other Google related apps.
I CANNOT STRESS THIS NOTE ENOUGH: Whether you uninstall apps manually or automatically, please be aware you have to replace the Amazon apps BEFORE you uninstall them. For example, if you want to use contacts, you should install the necessary Google Contact APKs, open 'Contacts' then uninstall Amazon contacts. DO NOT UNINSTALL the Amazon Contact Storage APK or no contact applications will function properly, if at all. There is a guide here where you can install Google Contacts and get a fun little surprise as a result of doing so.
A factory reset will bring back all system apps you uninstall whether you uninstall them manually or automatically. So if anything stops working or you uninstall something that broke something else, factory resetting will fix the tablet, but you'll have to start over.
If you want to use a custom launcher like Nova Launcher, you can read this post which will describe how to do so. In this post I explain how to disable Fire Launcher without breaking the home button. Please read the WHOLE post, including the very bottom where there's a link that describes a 'fix' for the recent apps button (square button) which has a fit when you uninstall Fire Launcher (even on rooted devices). Just tap on 'hide Fire Launcher BEFORE' at the bottom which will take you to a page where you can activate widgets. Read the very bottom and it will tell you how to 'fix' the recent apps button. When you swipe closed apps using the recent apps button, swiping the last one will kick you to the lock screen or black you out for a moment. The fix is kinda cheesy, but it is a fix. I use it on my HD 8.
In this post I describe what Amazon apps I did NOT uninstall. Note this list of apps will differ slightly from the ones installed on the HD 7, but not by very much. This list MIGHT allow you to use Gmail (which doesn't work on any tablet model) and a few other apps.
Very soon, I plan to make a thread with a detailed tutorial on how to do all of this, so it's in one single spot for everyone to find.

For awareness/clarity: root and SuperSU (no other root manager) are the only prerequisites for installing a custom ROM on this device via FlashFire. The bootloader does not need to be unlocked.

Thanks Davey, yeah I'm not ultimately looking for a rooted device, I just want a clean Nexus'like rom with no bloated crap on it. As a plan-B I will follow the other guide notes that DragonFire kindly provided. But primarily if you are still staying I can get Flashfire to install a custom Nexus rom, then please can you guide me to the appropriate instructions to make Flashfire come to life.
I have Flashfire installed...but it just warns there are no permissions etc.
Thanks

A custom ROM (ie: Nexus) can not be installed on this device without root. I do not foresee that happening anytime soon with the so you're stuck with FireOS for a bit. It's not a bad skin once you get used to it.
@DragonFire1024 provided a nice summary of the available tweaks and associated caveats. I suggest going slow; start with the Google Play Store and some light visual customizations. Save the all-or-nothing 'debloat script' until have have a better idea of what to keep.
Most importantly, enjoy your new device and don't fret over what could have been.
This list MIGHT allow you to use Gmail (which doesn't work on any tablet model) and a few other apps.

Initially and for many months after the Gmail app worked fine on 5th-7th gen devices with Google Play Services/Store installed. The app started crashing on launch following a silent update (lasted about 2 months) then started working again a few weeks ago.

I read somewhere where quite a few people had put a bug report in or something to that effect. A few days later there was an update to Gmail. That's about the time I installed it and it worked perfectly for me. I'm willing to bet Google did something that that made it possible to use again. Did Amazon do something to block is from using it? In my opinion, not likely. But what caused it? Not a clue. There is some speculation it had to do to with a permission, but that's only speculation. This is something we'll likely never get the answer to.

Don't get your hopes up. There's a reason securing root on Amazon and other manufacturer devices has become more difficult over the past 12-18 months. While I appreciate the euphemistic optimism shown by some the tightened security and legacy code cleanup initiated by Google is actually a good thing for the general Android user community. Of course, XDAers hate it (spare me the sermon on someone controlling *your* device) but they don't represent the much larger community that Amazon and other market driven companies are targeting. Business/capatolism 101.

It is definitely possible, just not enough people spending time on this device, they are all focused on more popular brands/devices.

This I will actually agree with. But to be honest, I really thought we'd have a good chance after Prime Day. I really thought we'd have gotten it then, but I still have hopes.
That being said, the tricks and hacks we've discovered over the last few months are pretty amazing. The method of 'uninstalling' I mentioned a few posts ago, was never intended nor expected to work on these tablets. It had sat on XDA for a couple days before I literally said out loud: "oh what the hell. I can't break anything." So gave it a shot and was incredibly surprised to see it really did disable Amazon Video.
With the tricks and hacks I also mentioned a few posts back, really does go a long way in terms of a custom ROM. Aside from the technical aspects and apps, in my opinion it's pretty much a custom systemless ROM. Though some may disagree with me very much.
Feel free to ask any question you like. We'll do our best to help.

Funny how for months now this device still hasn't been rooted, yet a few days after the release of the Samsung Galaxy S8, it was already rooted. Simply, those devices have much more people willing to take time to find exploits for, whereas the Fire does not. It's a shame really.

There just may not be any at the moment. Amazon has done a lot to this OS, so much so, I've seen posts where users don't even consider it an Android base anymore. Depending on what you read, I've seen other sites where some say its too butchered.
Also keep in mind when an exploit is found, some have been around for a very long time. So one may exist, but no one has either found it yet so no method exists or as you say, may not care enough to take the time to make a method. Every Android device is different. The OS is customized and programed to a manufacturers liking who also add their own customization, then is passed off to a service provider who further customizes it. In that period exploits are patched or simply don't work because what's exploited in certain devices, may not exist in other devices. The list and possibilities really could go on.

I wonder if it would be possible "break" the bootloader, so-to-speak, to a point where it "works" but is flawed, allowing the installation of a custom ROM.

Not likely. I have a list of things to try on my head. Some simple, some outrageous. Truth is this HD 8 has been through hell. I've reset it more times than I can count. I've nearly disected it and to be honest I'm absolutely amazed I haven't broken it yet. So I'm giving her a break from that right now.
With that said, I have an HD 7 that's rooted. I have an idea to try some things using it, that could work on non rooted 7 and up tablets, that would be totally systemless that could open up the possibilities to some things. I've been disecting the HD 7 for some ideas and plan to do some testing very soon. I'm the type that will immediately look at all settings and functions and then look through every file, folder and directory I'm able to, so we can do what many of us have already achieved. Keep an eye on me

Just got a 2017 Fire HD 10, how do I root it?

So I just bought a new 2017 version, Fire HD 10, and a case for it. It should get delivered tomorrow, but I want to be prepared for when I get it. I fully admit that I have limited Android knowledge, and zero Fire knowledge. I would like to get it as close to stock android as possible. Guessing this means rooting?
I found a walk through to install the play store, but I am unable to find anything on how to actually root it. Easier the better!
From what I can tell, the newest version is a 5.6.0.0, but I'm unsure what it will actually come with. If it needs updated, do I do it? Is there a working root for the newest version?
Also, are there any free ways to remove the lock screen adds?
Anything else you wish you had done when you first got your fire?
Thanks for any/all help

From what I can tell, the newest version is a 5.6.0.0, but I'm unsure what it will actually come with. If it needs updated, do I do it? Is there a working root for the newest version?
Also, are there any free ways to remove the lock screen adds?
Anything else you wish you had done when you first got your fire?
Thanks for any/all help

At present there is no method for rooting FireOS 5.6. You can install the Google Play Store and essential related services. Enjoy your new device.

Only way I'n aware of without root is to contact Amazon.
There's a thread on this but in the past I just said it was a gift and they were disappointed:

[T-Mobile] May 2nd

Hey TMO, it is now May 2nd 2019. Us 6T owners are wondering if you have forgot about us? We are still running January security update. Maybe throw us a bone to keep us happy for a few more months.

Is there anything keeping you from moving on to the International builds or open beta builds?
Why would anyone want to use the t mobile ROM?

RCS for one. Launcher with Google feed built in without the need to root.
There are a few advantages to the T-Mobile ROM. Not a lot, but a few.

Oh I see I never heard of RCS until you mentioned it. I only booted the stock ROM once before flashing international. I also do not think microg supports Google feeds never used a feed before. How do people admin android without root?
I used to root everything. I just don't have the time anymore plus I din't buy my phone out right and I don't feel like calling TMO to try and get out of the payoff restriction.

I didn't buy phone outright within one hour of taking it home I was boot loader unlocked , sim unlocked and rooted. No need to call t mobile for anything. I only booted the stock operating system once. Which was only because it was required step in the process. They asked me for help in setting up my phone. I sure if you can remove Google play services and seemed to think the phone wouldn't work without Google play services.
I get the desire for RCS,but it's barely used still... I could see it mattering in the future, but as of right now, meh... I got mine unlocked by sweet talking a rep, but MSM tool is great too! As much as I love the Google feed, I simply have a shortcut for it on my home screen so I can quickly go to it if needed... Honestly, the international variant works so much better for me! Sadly, TMO really restricts software updates for so many Android manufacturers, even aside from OnePlus. By the time TMO approve a software update, new patches and updates have already released on the mainstream side.
Wow...figured someone would have mentioned it by now...but anyway. Nova Launcher has a Google Feed plugin where you can just swipe right and you have the Discover feed. No root required.
As for RCS...not that big of a deal for me. I'm using International on my TMO 6T because I got tired of the SLOWWW updates.
I'm confident the T-mobile techs have noticed your demands here on XDA. They are surely working on your requests.
Stand by.

Yeah, I know about the alternatives but they are just not the same as having a dedicated stock launcher with the feed built in. It just seems cleaner to me.
Right now though, I do admit I cant use RCS because no one I know has it. So I went to Beta 9 and am using CPL with the plug in.
I am waiting on my token so I can get off this slow update T-Mobile schedule. I finally got tired of waiting so I called them up and told them I need sim unlock they did it even without phone payoff.

What does sim unlock mean in terms of updates? I am not sure if my sim is locked or not no proper method of testing but omni or carbon ROMs update just fine without official sim unlock. I only used the stock ROM long enough to boot the thing to fastboot to flash the international ROM. I did this inside the t mobile store while they processed the return of my wife's iPhone ten pro or what ever it was. They didn't seem to mind. Odd they let me do it with out the phone being processed yet. Mine was rooted and boot loader unlocked before I got my receipt. Their system was down for processing returns so I was there about an hour.

I find that strange with a locked bootloader. I guess you had a PC with you for all that or did the store let you use theirs. Any how good for you.

Yeah but I would think that the advantages of having newer/faster updates outweigh having to use another launcher or having RCS. Honestly, the OnePlus Launcher leaves a lot to be desired. I got rid of it almost immediately after I got the phone after I saw its huge lack of customization. Used Nova Launcher for years and love it. I won't use these betas though. I use my phone all day and just don't wanna run into annoying bugs lol. Hopefully we get a big new stable update soon.
RCS isnt something I really *NEED*. I can see when a message was delivered...but I'm sure we'll get RCS eventually.

Yeah, I can understand where you are coming from. However I would prefer the T-Mobile software. Each person has there own prerogative. Mine is T-Mo.

Question Notification issue

I select a number or period for notifications, only a period is displayed, and if I select only a number, no notification appears at all on the application icon.
Do you have the same problem? I can't live with this
Only the notification dots work for the apps, not a single number setting works for me.
Thank you, I'm going to return the phone.
Nova Launcher is unusable, so I can't exist without such a funny feature.
Thank you

You're going to return a phone because nova launcher didn't work for you?
That's nuts
No, I haven't used Nova launcher since A12.
The problem is that it doesn't show me the number of notifications on the app icon, only the dot. This is unusable for my workflow.

Why would you return a phone for that?
Try another launcher, nova isn't even that good.
What if the dot is a 12 feature? You'd be returning a phone for no reason.
I did see the lack of a number instead of a dot in the notification settings, if it meant that much to me I'd wait for a custom ROM to drop which will almost certainly have this feature..
Actually I just checked my launcher, I use lawn chair and this feature works fine so the limitation appears to be a Nova issue.
It doesn't work well on OxygenOS, not on Nova launcher. All launchers have glitch since A12.
And yes, that's one of the reasons I'll give it back. In fact, I bought it as an alternative to the Galaxy S22Ultra, which I did not want to wait for the tuning of the terrible SW. But when I have to wait, I'd rather wait with S22u in hand

I haven't had the issues you've described.

I honestly think you start off negatively, you've got an idea of what you want in another phone..so stick with that phone..
Nothing anyone says here is going to change your mind, so why bother making threads ? Just get rid of the phone lol.
Really negative..
I'm done with both threads.
I'm negative when people here convince me it works and then I find out they have root.

Root. Flash safety net fix module and enable zygisk option in magisk.hide bank apps on magisk.all works man...
I have also Nova from several years on every phone and no problems with OP10Pro and A12.

Lol you pulling me back in, this is trolling at it's best.
Dude it's a OnePlus device, it was spawned by a guy made popular for making Cyanogen Mod? It is the XDA surrogate son..
You can unlock the bootloader and root without risk. Something a Samsung cannot do and will never be able to do.
You flash anything with Odin and it's warranty goodbye to your Samsung.
Sure people root, It's a OnePlus device, hell I'd question them if they didn't, they stand to gain not lose features.
Btw, I did not have to root to obtain the numbers on my apps.
Just saying.
Plus no one is trying to convince you of anything, they're saying out loud some truths, whether your read it or understand it is besides the point.
Mods. Can this thread be closed? The OP obviously doesn't want a solution and has already started that they intend to return their device, I see no point in leaving it open, it'll lead to conflict without resolution

I understand everything and I like OnePlus. In the past, I rooted every single phone, but now I need reliability mainly because of the banking app and google play. I don't have time to play with him all the time and solve the safetynet repeatedly ...
