Question Notification issue - OnePlus 10 Pro

I select a number or period for notifications, only a period is displayed, and if I select only a number, no notification appears at all on the application icon.
Do you have the same problem? I can't live with this

Only the notification dots work for the apps, not a single number setting works for me.

Thank you, I'm going to return the phone.
Nova Launcher is unusable, so I can't exist without such a funny feature.
Thank you

You're going to return a phone because nova launcher didn't work for you?
That's nuts

No, I haven't used Nova launcher since A12.
The problem is that it doesn't show me the number of notifications on the app icon, only the dot. This is unusable for my workflow.

Why would you return a phone for that?
Try another launcher, nova isn't even that good.
What if the dot is a 12 feature? You'd be returning a phone for no reason.
I did see the lack of a number instead of a dot in the notification settings, if it meant that much to me I'd wait for a custom ROM to drop which will almost certainly have this feature..
Actually I just checked my launcher, I use lawn chair and this feature works fine so the limitation appears to be a Nova issue.

It doesn't work well on OxygenOS, not on Nova launcher. All launchers have glitch since A12.
And yes, that's one of the reasons I'll give it back. In fact, I bought it as an alternative to the Galaxy S22Ultra, which I did not want to wait for the tuning of the terrible SW. But when I have to wait, I'd rather wait with S22u in hand

I honestly think you start off negatively, you've got an idea of what you want in another phone..so stick with that phone..
Nothing anyone says here is going to change your mind, so why bother making threads ? Just get rid of the phone lol.
Really negative..
I'm done with both threads.

I'm negative when people here convince me it works and then I find out they have root.

Dude it's a OnePlus device, it was spawned by a guy made popular for making Cyanogen Mod? It is the XDA surrogate son..
You can unlock the bootloader and root without risk. Something a Samsung cannot do and will never be able to do.
You flash anything with Odin and it's warranty goodbye to your Samsung.
Sure people root, It's a OnePlus device, hell I'd question them if they didn't, they stand to gain not lose features.
Btw, I did not have to root to obtain the numbers on my apps.
Just saying.
Plus no one is trying to convince you of anything, they're saying out loud some truths, whether your read it or understand it is besides the point.
Mods. Can this thread be closed? The OP obviously doesn't want a solution and has already started that they intend to return their device, I see no point in leaving it open, it'll lead to conflict without resolution

I believe the only way to get rid of blinkfeed at the moment is to use a different launcher. If you use sense your stuck with it. You can make it so it's not your homepage though.

Thanks for the reply man. I did move it all the way to the right just to get it out of my way lol. But with only 5 screens (im use to 7) its kind of a waste of space. Theres other stuff i could use that screen for. If i knew where it was located maybe i could decompile, remove and recompile. Thanks for the response man,

Have you gone into the settings and enabled other sources? I hated Blinkfeed until I realized you could get stuff from all sorts of things like mags, websites, sports, news, etc.
But yeah, third party launcher is the only way to "disable" it.

I'd echo the note of using a different launcher. If you are particularly fond of the Sense launcher though, you can always add more home screens and change the default homescreen to point elsewhere (say, screen #3 or so). Blinkfeed will always be on screen #1, but you can ignore it this way.
Of course, many alternative launchers won't work with Sense's widgets, so be sure you're aware of that before you make the jump to any particular one! I do believe I saw that there was some work on hiding blinkfeed, though; unfortunately, it doesn't seem like it's a simple fix.

Yeah, its literally embedded into the launcher...its hard coded in.
Have you tried setting it up for your interest? I thought it would be annoying at first and was very annoying for the first couple days and almost installed a different launcher. Till one day I started messing around with it and now I use it daily. It's nice to be caught up on what's going on with technology and science without having to search the web for the highlights. Saves a lot of time.
I get this question a lot working at sprint. Customers come in all the time asking how to get rid of it. Instead of showing them different launchers I show them how to set it up and they all walk out happy without wanting a different launcher.
This is something new and very exciting for smartphone owners. But I do agree it would be nice to at least have the option to remove it for the people that buy a smartphone and only want to make calls with it.

Any ways to remove the ads with the build version V6.6?

Please let me know if you guys know a ways to remove the ads!
No way that we know of. You could return it for another one and NOT let it connect to wifi or put in a sim until after you have relashed it. All phones are shipping with 6.1, so it was your mistake to let it update.

Things just got more complicated because Amazon has stopped selling the phone! We will have to wait and see what happens next. If it were me, I would contact them right away and find out if a replacement is available still.

So, I'm an app developer and looked into this lately. The latest updates have hardened the lockscreen ads against removal - that includes against doing the above where it only causes a minimized ad on the lockscreen until reboot VS a fullscreen one unless there's a notification available.
(There's at least one way I didn't test such as reverting to the original shipped version of the amazon apps which could maybe work, idk.)
So the above can also be done using an app that displays a non-dismissable notification and starts on boot so that there's no longer any attention needed. Again, this just forces no fullscreen ads.
A newly found Linux flaw, which may work on the device as someone seems to have it working on android, looks like it could be used to gain access needed to completely remove the ads, but I don't really care to look into it and you do so at your own risk.
And of course as there's custom roms available, they won't have ads as well.
Stuff like lockscreen replacement apps - well I tried one and the amazon ad still appeared - the ad developer should have tested against these anyway. There seems to be better developer access to the lockscreen with android N that could in theory work against the ads, but the device OS isn't android N and I feel they wouldn't update it regardless if the ads were easily removed as that would be counterproductive.
If something isn't correct or becomes outdated in this post, just say below.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/r1-hd/how-to/blu-r1-hd-v6-6-dirtycowed-f-amazon-root-t3490882
Now that we can root and unlocked the V6.6 version, anyway to remove the ads?
Why not just install the non-Amazon version of the rom V12 using Colton's easy method, and then update it to V17 using vampire's method. The non-Amazon roms don't have the ads to begin with, so there's nothing that needs removing.

what happened to all the click to root apps? Would any work?

Title says is all really, pretty sure that the bootloader still needs unlocking, just I remember being able to root without unlocking the bootloader, without having TWRP /Clockwork mod in the past.
Tried a few of them with no luck, any way this can be done..
I've kind of given up on the bootloader unlock code and thus the ability to flash a rom (even though Huawei allowed this device to be treble compatible, evil bast****)
Would any exploits work?
Be good to at least get root on this crippled bloatfest excuse for an android device.

Yep I got that pal..
But you've missed the point.
Why?
Unlocking the bootloader was not always necessary.
Certain devices yes but how to know??
Installing TWRP to a partition is impossible without removing the checking system which is inherently what a locked bootloader brings.
But I'm not talking about that, nor am I talking about installing a custom ROM..
Only root, nothing more.

All the "click to root" apps were using certain exploits/privilege escalation vulnerabilities. With Android development those holes were patched by Google on Android level and by most OEMs on their custom versions level.

Honestly, OnePlus 7T pro, it's just a phenomenal phone, all the things im miss are just there and not a sniff of a company locking anything down.
It's butter smooth. I used my pro next to the 7t pro and honestly it's an incredible difference, it's like playing a game at 144hz for the first time, 60 just can't cut it ever again.
I'm going to let this can run down and get the 8, I usually upgrade 2-3 times a year but thought I'd give it a miss this year.. kind of glad I did but it's paining me now as my bootloader is screwed and there's only so much I can do without root.
I'd love to remove the swap memory (page file /zram) but I don't think it's possible.
Swap torpedo did this and the speed increase is amazing.
PS: I wouldn't bother with the S10 it's not as good as the oneplus devices tbh. S11 might compete but it's still Samsung so nah not for me.

I use my banking apps with root.
Things I need.
Root access to files for tweaks.
Page file removal
Bloat removal
Ad removal ( I can't tell you how much I don't like adverts)
Mods that Devs miss (CRT animation, Audio Boost etc)
Custom ROMs: more efficient, faster, feature rich
Latest OS
Early releases
If I didn't mod my phone using root id be bored in weeks (which I am) or I'd buy an IPhone.
First works for me on root, I just agreed when the notification same up.
For the ones that don't, the mobile version of the web page works perfectly for me, dependent on bank of course.
The trade off just isn't worth it for me especially with emui which is abysmally tedious and something I'd love to just delete from history.

Root or Not Root that's the question

Hi together,
I am wondering which benefits I can expect from rooting my device.
One thing that comes to my mind is having an option to use face unlock for older unlock APIs.
What do you guys think?
Tirade incoming...
I'm probably in the minority, but I won't buy a phone I cannot root. The idea that the phone that I paid $1000 for up front is under the control of other companies seems wrong to me. I have full control over my computers... my ISP doesn't tell me what I can run on it and can't force me to use their DNS; Microsoft doesn't tell me that I'm breaking a EULA by running admin programs; my bank's website doesn't refuse to load because I'm running a lot of browser extensions that can modify the page. Google says they respect that people want control over their phones but they also say they respect app creator's wanting to run on an unmodified device. I throw those companies to the wind and don't look back. If only Google would stop blocking access to things and requiring us to use root to gain them back. They give and take features almost constantly and it often feels like a losing battle.
Ideology aside, there are so many small things that can be done through rooting. The next best alternative is either awkward or non-existent. I could name them off, but each thing on their own is easily dismissable is about preference. But if I had to use a phone that had none of my modifications/tweaks, I would be fairly unhappy. I don't think you'll understand the difference until you're actually changing your phone significantly as a whole then have to consider going back. A lot of things you won't know you even wanted until you find that they're possible... and a lot of things you'll look at and not even care about, despite them being popular to other people. That's what rooting is to me. Choices and options... in a world where Apple and even Google think that less is more.
I think if you're willing to experiment and put a significant amount of time in doing so, you should dive in and find out what you like. But if you're on the ropes about it, then you might not get into it.

To make that clear. I rooted every android phone I owned up to now. There has been always a thing that bothered me about the stock ROM.
But this time I feel like everything is working out of the box. (Except face unlock for ing, which sux)

Sent from my Pixel 4 XL using XDA Labs
It takes me longer the download the stock image to do updates with than it takes me to re-root the phone after the update. I wonder why it seems like a lot of work to you.
PS. My broadband ISP is slow....

It takes more time, which you actively have to spend. It's not like ow there is an update. Ok install done.
You have to go through all steps. You have to e.g. change settings in build.prop again. Flash kernel or what ever.
One example with rooted and problems with apps I'm always unsure if it's due to root or due to the rom. Stuff like this.
I don't have to do either of those things. My build.prop changes are systemlessly handled by a Magisk module that just works as soon as I'm rooted again. YMMV.
I've spent more time writing in this thread than my monthly process takes. If you don't have that time, then fine. You've answered your own question?
I've rooted all my devices except the pixel ones. There's absolutely no need for me to root a pixel device, everything is working as I want out of the box. That's one reason that development for the pixel 4/xl is nearly non existent.
ROOT! #1 reason Fingerface for fingerprint only APIs, other than that I agree the Pixel phones don't need any modifications. I hope the Pixel 5 will bring back the FP, face unlock sucks with a mask!

first reason finger face
second reason motion sense..

Why choose android if you are going to use a limited system?
If i could live without root i would just go iPhone way

Cause the limited system will do what most people need it to do

Again. If you are going to use a limited system why choose android over iOS?
I don't understand your reply

Because many people like what Android has to offer over iOS, simple. Rooting isn't as useful as what it used to be
Does google pay work currently root? Magisk hide?
Or is that out of the question now...

From what I've been reading it's going to be hard to get Google Pay to work with root. I only use root to bring back the 2 button gesture using a Magisk module. I don't know if it's worth it anymore.

Google pay works right now for me and I'm rooted running 11 beta 2.5.

I want to root so I can run ProtonVPN (or any VPN really) alongside Adguard. You can't run them side x side without root....
Admittedly a little sick of the whole big brother thing, so wouldn't mind obscuring my traffic a bit.

Question Press power button to scan finger on a non-MIUI ROM?

Hi, pretty self-explanatory title I think, but does anyone know of a way to make the fingerprint scanner on a community ROM (MIUI or OSS vendor, doesn't really matter, and preferably A12-based) work the same way you can optionally set it up in MIUI, that is to only scan the fingerprint after you press the power button, not simply by touching? Or is there a ROM that supports this feature (and is generally considered good)?
This is honestly a deal breaker for me when it comes to using anything other than MIUI, because when I already tried a community ROM (A12 Derpfest, in particular), I found it incredibly annoying that any random touch unlocked my phone even when I certainly didn't want it to, and not using the scanner at all or setting it up for some awkward finger I rarely use is really a solution.
Cheers.
Well I've been asking the same thing in Pixel extended Rom post. Hope someone would made it working.
Also requested in Magisk thread for some module if anyone can made. No response so far
@Case_ have u sorted the issue? Any updates?
Woaaah i didn't even know this was an option, just turned it on. So much better i get annoyed when it tries to scan constantly..

Yes, tried few custom roms, but MIUI suits me better.

Nope. I got mocked a bit for asking (elsewhere, not here), also got the advice to scan less fingers (not exactly helpful), but nothing else. I've seen someone mention that Pixel Experience might possibly have this, but no idea if it applies to our device.
With nandroid backups not working well in A12, I'm not exactly keen on installing the ROM just to see it's not there anyway. And I was kinda busy with other stuff anyway. I might do it eventually, though.

No, pixel experience doesn't have that. Also No A12 rom has it.
@arunsebstn I guess the person was talking about PE for a different device, then
Not sure of this helps. I have the ROM from Mirza and it has option to press.
@RAMBO29 Yeah, but that's because it is just a customized MIUI ROM. We're talking non-MIUI ROMs here (as the thread title says).
So, it's been a while and I haven't really been testing new ROMs (for practical reasons, mostly)...anybody knows if this might perhaps finally be a thing now outside of MIUI ROMs? Thanks.
Same, I'm surprised there isn't a magisk module for this, maybe one does exist and we just don't know of it?
Hey, latest CrDroid 8.6 (Android 12) has the option you're looking for. Only searches for fingerprint unlock when you press the power button, when screen is off, so is the fingerprint scanner.
@Case_
@batureal Cool, thank you!
Lineageos 19.1
So it seems like the option is finally showing up in community ROMs. Great!
