what happened to all the click to root apps? Would any work? - Huawei P20 Pro Questions & Answers

Title says is all really, pretty sure that the bootloader still needs unlocking, just I remember being able to root without unlocking the bootloader, without having TWRP /Clockwork mod in the past.
Tried a few of them with no luck, any way this can be done..
I've kind of given up on the bootloader unlock code and thus the ability to flash a rom (even though Huawei allowed this device to be treble compatible, evil bast****)
Would any exploits work?
Be good to at least get root on this crippled bloatfest excuse for an android device.

Nope. Nothing will work

Yep I got that pal..
But you've missed the point.
Why?
Unlocking the bootloader was not always necessary.
Certain devices yes but how to know??
Installing TWRP to a partition is impossible without removing the checking system which is inherently what a locked bootloader brings.
But I'm not talking about that, nor am I talking about installing a custom ROM..
Only root, nothing more.

We are talking about huawei here lmao. I don't think there is any possibility to root it, unless you unlock the bootloader.
There was a trick but it got fixed, which is to replace erecovery with TWRP and root the phone.

All the "click to root" apps were using certain exploits/privilege escalation vulnerabilities. With Android development those holes were patched by Google on Android level and by most OEMs on their custom versions level.

Honestly, OnePlus 7T pro, it's just a phenomenal phone, all the things im miss are just there and not a sniff of a company locking anything down.
It's butter smooth. I used my pro next to the 7t pro and honestly it's an incredible difference, it's like playing a game at 144hz for the first time, 60 just can't cut it ever again.
I'm going to let this can run down and get the 8, I usually upgrade 2-3 times a year but thought I'd give it a miss this year.. kind of glad I did but it's paining me now as my bootloader is screwed and there's only so much I can do without root.
I'd love to remove the swap memory (page file /zram) but I don't think it's possible.
Swap torpedo did this and the speed increase is amazing.
PS: I wouldn't bother with the S10 it's not as good as the oneplus devices tbh. S11 might compete but it's still Samsung so nah not for me.

Stopped playing around with root/android about 2 years ago. In fact, the last time I rooted a phone was on android 7... I like my banking apps running on my phone and really don't think rooting the phone has any advantages, but does add certain security concerns.

I use my banking apps with root.
Things I need.
Root access to files for tweaks.
Page file removal
Bloat removal
Ad removal ( I can't tell you how much I don't like adverts)
Mods that Devs miss (CRT animation, Audio Boost etc)
Custom ROMs: more efficient, faster, feature rich
Latest OS
Early releases
If I didn't mod my phone using root id be bored in weeks (which I am) or I'd buy an IPhone.
First works for me on root, I just agreed when the notification same up.
For the ones that don't, the mobile version of the web page works perfectly for me, dependent on bank of course.
The trade off just isn't worth it for me especially with emui which is abysmally tedious and something I'd love to just delete from history.

Will anything past OE2 ever get Root? (OG5,OG7,etc..)

Anyone know of any active developement regarding the 925V variant? Way too nice not to have root.
There is zero development.
Zero KNOWN progress. Who knows for sure though. King root might work for us one day or it might not.
There wasn't much development on my tmboile s5 either. What phones do have good development these days?
I guess mostly just Nexus devices.

I've stuck with my ATT Note3 on TMO, and TMO Note4. My son has a Sprint S6 Edge on TMO and it has surprisingly quite a bit of development. If I knew anything regarding locked vs. unlocked BL's I'd have a go with this 925V. Just really surprised at the lack of development for this device. Sucks!
Unfortunately, it seems that we've been left in the dark. Surely one of the many devs would have a thread going with some sort of progress update if any were working on it.
@spadz93 That's kinda what I'm thinking. Too bad. I use way too many root functions to even consider keeping my 925V. Really nice hardware either way. I'll probably look for a TMO variant.
Verizon sucks anyway. Worst service I've ever had. I liked T-Mobile way better. I have constant dropped calls, missed texts etc with Verizon.
I would pay good money to have some development for this device... without development, its useless... anyone interested? pm me =]

I wouldn't go so far as to call it useless... It's still a solid phone with decent hardware. Just because you can't root it and install custom ROMs doesn't make it useless. I'm more interested in a phone that works consistently everyday than I am the ability to push the hardware to the point of random reboots and overheating. Once I gave up root for 5.1 I've had next to zero issues with the phone and I like it much more.

Yea, my statement is a little exaggerated but no xposed is huge for me personally. I like to play with my phone and customize it. Without root and xposed, I can't do that like I could with my s4 so it bothers me
What upsets me is the fact that devs give up trying to root a phone if a solution doesn't come within a month or two, if the phone is the only variant that still doesn't have a root and it will take more effort than a few tweaks to do it. I've seen it over and over again with so many phones. If I knew how to even begin to look for a root on the phone and I had the money to buy phones that I could burn in the process, then I'd totally work at it.
what I dont understand is theres ppl with the Note 4 that are able to root 5.1.1 using King Root and no one has tried it on any firmware beyond OE2 for us yet..
I know one person said it worked for him on OF1 but need more to confirm before I update and update all my ROMs.

You cannot root the snapdragon variant phones. Sorry, I take that back. You can root them but it breaks Knox, Samsung Pay, and a bunch of other stuff. It trips some sort of fuse.

Buy the Razer Phone 2. Right now it's cheaper than any of its competition and it has root. The Galaxy S10 is a pretty good phone now that I've had an opportunity to use it for games that won't run on rooted and unlocked devices (like Fate/GO)
Someone already got TWRP to boot on Exynos S10, this phone is too popular to not get root(Exynos bootloader unlocked models). It is a matter of time, I'd say within next few weeks one of the smart devs here will have root and within a month or two Magisk support as well.

The dev behind Magisk got an S10 already so I'd guess it shouldn't be long for Magisk to support the phones. And if TWRP is already sort of available I'd imagine we'll have root im worse case scenario at the end of April.

Root or Not Root that's the question

Hi together,
I am wondering which benefits I can expect from rooting my device.
One thing that comes to my mind is having an option to use face unlock for older unlock APIs.
What do you guys think?
Tirade incoming...
I'm probably in the minority, but I won't buy a phone I cannot root. The idea that the phone that I paid $1000 for up front is under the control of other companies seems wrong to me. I have full control over my computers... my ISP doesn't tell me what I can run on it and can't force me to use their DNS; Microsoft doesn't tell me that I'm breaking a EULA by running admin programs; my bank's website doesn't refuse to load because I'm running a lot of browser extensions that can modify the page. Google says they respect that people want control over their phones but they also say they respect app creator's wanting to run on an unmodified device. I throw those companies to the wind and don't look back. If only Google would stop blocking access to things and requiring us to use root to gain them back. They give and take features almost constantly and it often feels like a losing battle.
Ideology aside, there are so many small things that can be done through rooting. The next best alternative is either awkward or non-existent. I could name them off, but each thing on their own is easily dismissable is about preference. But if I had to use a phone that had none of my modifications/tweaks, I would be fairly unhappy. I don't think you'll understand the difference until you're actually changing your phone significantly as a whole then have to consider going back. A lot of things you won't know you even wanted until you find that they're possible... and a lot of things you'll look at and not even care about, despite them being popular to other people. That's what rooting is to me. Choices and options... in a world where Apple and even Google think that less is more.
I think if you're willing to experiment and put a significant amount of time in doing so, you should dive in and find out what you like. But if you're on the ropes about it, then you might not get into it.

To make that clear. I rooted every android phone I owned up to now. There has been always a thing that bothered me about the stock ROM.
But this time I feel like everything is working out of the box. (Except face unlock for ing, which sux)

It takes more time, which you actively have to spend. It's not like ow there is an update. Ok install done.
You have to go through all steps. You have to e.g. change settings in build.prop again. Flash kernel or what ever.
One example with rooted and problems with apps I'm always unsure if it's due to root or due to the rom. Stuff like this.
I don't have to do either of those things. My build.prop changes are systemlessly handled by a Magisk module that just works as soon as I'm rooted again. YMMV.
I've spent more time writing in this thread than my monthly process takes. If you don't have that time, then fine. You've answered your own question?
I've rooted all my devices except the pixel ones. There's absolutely no need for me to root a pixel device, everything is working as I want out of the box. That's one reason that development for the pixel 4/xl is nearly non existent.

Question Notification issue

I select a number or period for notifications, only a period is displayed, and if I select only a number, no notification appears at all on the application icon.
Do you have the same problem? I can't live with this
Only the notification dots work for the apps, not a single number setting works for me.
Thank you, I'm going to return the phone.
Nova Launcher is unusable, so I can't exist without such a funny feature.

That's nuts
No, I haven't used Nova launcher since A12.
The problem is that it doesn't show me the number of notifications on the app icon, only the dot. This is unusable for my workflow.

Why would you return a phone for that?
Try another launcher, nova isn't even that good.
What if the dot is a 12 feature? You'd be returning a phone for no reason.
I did see the lack of a number instead of a dot in the notification settings, if it meant that much to me I'd wait for a custom ROM to drop which will almost certainly have this feature..
Actually I just checked my launcher, I use lawn chair and this feature works fine so the limitation appears to be a Nova issue.
It doesn't work well on OxygenOS, not on Nova launcher. All launchers have glitch since A12.
And yes, that's one of the reasons I'll give it back. In fact, I bought it as an alternative to the Galaxy S22Ultra, which I did not want to wait for the tuning of the terrible SW. But when I have to wait, I'd rather wait with S22u in hand

This would also solve my call recording, but I still don't want to solve the problem with banks and google pay.

I don't really care about other comments, I also don't use nova..
I haven't had the issues you've described.
Either way, it's pointless going on about it.. I'm happy with my phone, you're not..
End of.
As I said, good luck.

I'm rooted, my bank works and Google pay.
I honestly think you start off negatively, you've got an idea of what you want in another phone..so stick with that phone..
Nothing anyone says here is going to change your mind, so why bother making threads ? Just get rid of the phone lol.
Really negative..
I'm done with both threads.
I'm negative when people here convince me it works and then I find out they have root.

I have also Nova from several years on every phone and no problems with OP10Pro and A12.

Lol you pulling me back in, this is trolling at it's best.
Dude it's a OnePlus device, it was spawned by a guy made popular for making Cyanogen Mod? It is the XDA surrogate son..
You can unlock the bootloader and root without risk. Something a Samsung cannot do and will never be able to do.
You flash anything with Odin and it's warranty goodbye to your Samsung.
Sure people root, It's a OnePlus device, hell I'd question them if they didn't, they stand to gain not lose features.
Btw, I did not have to root to obtain the numbers on my apps.
Just saying.
Plus no one is trying to convince you of anything, they're saying out loud some truths, whether your read it or understand it is besides the point.
Mods. Can this thread be closed? The OP obviously doesn't want a solution and has already started that they intend to return their device, I see no point in leaving it open, it'll lead to conflict without resolution

I understand everything and I like OnePlus. In the past, I rooted every single phone, but now I need reliability mainly because of the banking app and google play. I don't have time to play with him all the time and solve the safetynet repeatedly ...

How To Guide How not to guide

Well we all know now that nothing is changing no developers coming and the reason is fastboot flashing unlock you basically make a copy of your android for not being harmed and even google says for full acces you need fastboot oem unlock that's why viper ain't working everything you drop there because real but not really real because you can't touch the system fastboot flashing unlock enjoy your fake root and don't forget forgot to load back your new features like zram monet who is looking awesome and at the moment for all stock users you know it looks like oos 11 for all you rooters don't forget to turn oem off or factory wipe after loading see screenshot how to get new features like 1hz and you can get your zram back and even your net flash when you leave oem nothing will happen you will go back to your real system where nothing can't be change i will post screenshots too maybe you all can figure it out to get real root but i don't think oppo will let you happy hunting
Fastboot oem unlock has been deprecated for years, OEMs just continued to add support. Fastboot flashing unlock does the same thing.
i see you're still whining instead of being constructive.

Seriously sell your phone and stop crying go buy a pisel. You will find that the new erofs partition coming in a13 will be the same across the board on all models eventually. It's just in ours early

They abanned him on all OnePlus tg threads so he went here to vent after doing it in 5 groups. Lol
Someone writes that oneplus 10 pro will never have modding support but then if things are really like this why did oneplus release the kernel source codes a few weeks after the presentation of the phone? this means you just have to wait for someone to get interested and start working on the oneplus 10 pro, if the kernel source codes are released it means we can start with support for our phone

Kernel source has nothing to do with the new partition that is read only. Also, the kernel sources released under oppo have been severally lacking. i have talked to kernel devs and they don't want to touch it because it's such a mess.

To paraphrase a famous quote from a certain Adam Sandler movie....
"Sir.... what you've just posted is one of the most insanely idiotic things I've ever read. At no point in your rambling, incoherent message was there anything that could even be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this forum is now dumber for having read it. I award you no points, and may god have mercy on your soul."
Everyone seems totally stressed and aggressive.
We're all in the same boat.
Bottom line here is that Android is dying, it's been a free for all for too long..
The calling in the bill and there's nothing any of us can do about it.
Screw the pixel. My next phone will be an iPhone, if it's to be a closed source device then I'll be getting one from a company who knows how to do it right.
I'm done

The way I see it is like this. The op of this post is a troll. Don't give in to his garbage post. I for one will still stick to android. Android isn't really dying they are adapting. Will we always have root? Yes. Custom roms not so much, but that hasn't stopped developers before. Someone eventually will come along and make magic work, just like many have before with locked bootloader's. What OnePlus has done is wrong against the many users around the world, but again Android will always still be Android and much more ahead than apple will ever be. The OnePlus 10 pro phone may have changes that isn't the same, but again look at the bright side. We still have possibilities, and possibilities don't just happen over night like the cry baby op who just thinks that he is owed development because he bought the phone.

Only after this and GuyInDogSuit post I realized that OP's post is indeed a single sentence. Well how much sense does it make is a different story altogether, but it is a talent!
