I have (tried to) played around a bit with Remixos player on a Galaxy TabPro S and the conclusion is that I have never met a piece of software that was so inmature, useless and annoying. It is just a complete waste of time.
Once you get it started (despite the humorous messages it's not funny) there is no way for me as a german user to control the OS. Touchscreen input for tablets are is messed up by bad programming, no proper screenresolutions available, no fullscreen. Touchscreen input for an Android OS is messed up. I mean just think about that. That alone says it all.
You would think that at least the keyboard support would work. Not at all. I don't know what kind of keyboard it is that is running under the german label, but it is not german. They don't even get the label right: It is named "german qwerty", but it should go "german qwertz"
So entering an email address: not possible. There is no @ on the so called "german" keyboard.
But the ads are working all over the place. Here you see the priorities.
This is not serious software. It's bloatware. It's nothing but waste.
Switch to live usb. It's generally ok.
It's clear the player isn't their prior project nor goal within android machine's market, and it's normal, there are others things to do. I even think it was totally optional for them to do one.
Whatever, even if not their top priority, the updates are regular and the soft will improve. It's principal defaults are material (+ language) compatibilities, and maybe requirements too. Hardware compatibility is something that is totally rectifiable and there is good hope it will follow. This excluded, Remix is among the best actual solutions and will probably keep on doing so.
But as always there are some impatient people to express in unpleasant ways and judge things in a direct or even extreme manner, even for something that is almost (or always, I don't remember, it was one month ago) a beta. So please no need to go in a ruckus or for trash talking here like it's done almost everywhere on the web. Especially with gaming, which scene is total drama nowadays, and which scene touch this soft as well because of it's potential with games ....

you are right, trash talking is not needed. I think it is appropiate in some cases though. Developers are doing this for a reason, there is the intention to make money here. Somehow. They put something out that is not working at all, but wasting my time. That's not all right.
You say it is almost a beta. Well almost, yes, it is alpha or even pre. If they declare it as such, you don't hear a word from me.
This method here, the way they chose to go, is not ok. There is potential yes, it might be fine for some now, for others in a year or so, good. Until then mark it as work in progress and invite beta testers, but don't pretend you have an actual product.

To this point even if they of course plan to make money in the end, the soft is FREE, and like said, their commercial stretch goal is their MACHINES so making the OS work well first on em. To be more precise than before, the player here is what we call a loss leader, or event to be considered it a demonstration product, but a good one even with its defaults. Did you pay something for using it or is it free ? Do you make them live another way ? Do you have annoying frequents adds and downloads of unwanted apps like on some competitors ? Nope, they do differently.
Talk trashing isn't something to do, there is plenty of ways to express dissatisfaction or anger isn't it ? Or what are you ? Non human ? A goat ? Apologies for the late reply as we've been swamped by our Kickstarter campaign. Also, really sorry to hear of your disappointment with Remix OS Player. I'd like to address the issues I can, and ask you to help us with a couple of the other ones:
1) Unfunny humorous messages - Noted, and I'll share this with the guy who thought it was clever.
2) The only place to tweak resolution is during startup where you click on the "Advanced" button.
3) The latest Remix OS Player has full screen mode.
4) We did not work on touchscreen support since Player was targeted at Intel based PCs whose majority do not have touchscreens.
5) The keyboard support - We did make changes to the way Android Studio laid out keyboards in order to support Keyboard shortcuts (ie. Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V). May I work with you to improve this? Also, if there are any keyboard names (as you mentioned "German QWERTZ" we do apologize) we've misnamed, thanks in advance for letting us know.
6) We do have ads in the program. We are a small startup still and we do need to find a way to keep the lights on for free software products like Remix OS Player and Remix OS for PC. This is the priority in play here.
Again, I do apologize for any time you've wasted on Remix OS Player. We do have a new update that also supports OTA now.

1) look, I don't really care, it's just diffcult to find it funny if you are disappointed with the experience. In fact they would be funny if everything else was running smoothly.
2) add the native resolution of the host (you have to pre check that), and then
3) yes support fullscreen, and make sure that the resolution is properly scaled down on high res monitors (e.g. 4K).
4) In my opinion a big mistake. Android is a touch based OS and there a lot of touchscreens out there, more and more coming, and for them Remix is just unusable without touch input. I mean, think,: unusable. And it would be relatively easy to correct the mapping and disband the mouse pointer, ar least in fullscreen mode. Yes the majority out there has no touchscreen, but the majority of those who have want Android.
5) This is easy. Check out google for the german or any other language keyboard layout. Then make sure that your built in keyboards reflect that once you hit the keys. Then do your changes and check whether they interfere with what is expected from this keyboard layout.
Although it is a nice idea to transfer Windows functionallity to RemixOS it should not interfere with Android functionality. Android goes first, that's why people want to have it. Then you can add quality of life Windows features. If they work...
6) I don't mind ads. Unless they are not the only thing working... (for me)
I am sorry but because of the non working I had to uninstall Remix. And I would only reinstall it if I read that touchscreen support works. I would like to help, but without being able to do navigate, it just doesn't make sense.

Your points are taken and I've just shared them with the dev team in charge. I realize that with Remix OS for PC and Remix OS Player, we're never going to be able to satisfy all hardware/usage scenarios. We do need to choose our battles wisely based on the resources we have.
However, also as a startup, each user is vital for us. While still needing to adhere to the 80/20 rule due to our limited resources, I'll do the best I can to push our devs to work on 1) keyboard config support, and 2) touchscreen Intel devices.

I read about adds in Remix Os (player, in my case), here, and else. But well I can't see any or I'm totally blind. The only "adds" I saw were at first startup, giving the possibility to download some apps, and I can't really consider this like pub.
I'm not complaining about not having adds, sure ^^ but where are they ? Normal ? Not even automatic propositions or even downloads like with Andy. If you needs publicity to live on, better it to be working
Putting out a free software download does have it's pros and cons. On one hand, it's much easier to build up a user base, to get higher volumes of feedback and to build off of that feedback. However, to maintain the team that works on said software is a challenge. We did place ads in the apps drawer and have aimed to be unobtrusive with the ads as well as tailoring them to be relevant to the user. However, we did receive some backlash from users who may not understand the need for ads on free software. Thus, we have continued to dial back the way the ads are shown so that our users don't feel annoyed with them. That's probably why you don't see it as very intrusive anymore. Yes, know that.
And I finally saw the tab after posting and looking again ... Recommendations. But yeah, it's faaaaar than invasive. Or even absolutely invisible and can be ignored. Can't consider that personally as publicity. For me and add is a commercial, it's bling bling or even noisy, so much you can't miss it, or are forced to it.
Ads play a big role in android,so no surprise here.

2) Make it so our Home Screens turn when the Accelerometer changes to wide view. When sliding the keyboard out on the Droid and (I believe G1) the viewing automatically changes to landscape. I would love this feature as well. Is this doable, possible?

It doesn't need to be Apache, I'm just more familiar with that particular server software. If there are other options I would be glad to explore them. There are a few things I would like to test that I think would be kind of cool depending on the type of webserver I can run.

A track ball would help out in a lot of ways. If open to the OS it would let me select programs, etc. while wearing gloves. It would open up the option of navigating without having to actually use the touch screen in case the scenario presents itself (again, gloves).
If just the browser it could help with games and those types of things. One important thing I have noticed is that I can't scroll within a frame on the browser. If I had a pointer I could, at the least, be able to click and drag the inner frame down without moving the main browsing page. This is somewhat vital to me as my College's Blackboard System is completely based on these types of web pages.

That's a shame. The one problem I have is the amount of rotating I have to do. I would prefer to have the home screens locked in landscape rather than how they are now. It's just a little ridiculous to be watching a video on the phone and texting someone... but every time you want to reply/text you have to rotate the phone. It just seems tedious and I'm a man of efficiency if I can help it.
Maybe I can convince HTC.

I believe this is being done in the 2.1 Sense that HTC have promised us...sometime.
But imo its really ugly, nothing seems to be the right proportions (I'm a designer, so it kinda bugged me)

that can be solved, press menu on homescreen, from there on you can use the trackball to navigate to all programs and then navigate through the menu.
i got myself some gloves from north face, which have a conducting fabric on the tips of thumb and index finger, so i can use the touchscreen natively with them. works great, actually got them before i had the hero because they are cool anyway
for the rest: i see your point now, but can't help. and tbh i don't think htc will take too much interest in your concerns... but try anyway, at least they should know about it!
For the web server you might want to try PAW server for Android. Although it's still in beta, it has a lot of built-in goodies like call log, send SMS and so on.
And you can serve your own static or dynamic (BeanShell) pages.
I just switched over to Android (rls11 of Incubus's great build) from WinMo 6.1 a few days ago. I love the snappy and slick interface. Web browsing is easier and I like the Market. One thing I'm sorely missing, though, is the use of Notes. I loved being able to whip out the stylus and just write/draw whatever the heck I want. It comes in handy when playing party games where I use it as an impromptu scratchpad to keep score.
Afaik, android is developed for capacitance based touchscreens, so I may be out of luck. Does anyone know of any comparable apps for android where using the stylus is encouraged?
Also, phone-as-modem. Or as WinMo called it, Internet Connection Sharing. Is there equivalent functionality in Froyo?
I love the UI of Android, but I may have to switch back. Please don't make me go back.
did you look in the marketplace? There are tons of note taking apps, many of them are free.. I use AK notes as it allows you to create widgets on your desktop of previous notes.
I did look. I must've downloaded nearly ten of them. None allowed freehand input using the stylus. All needed text input via the on-screen keyboards. After the 7th one or so I got frustrated and decided to just ask here, hoping to save time. does AK notes allow input with the stylus?

i have not tried pdanet. I don't like the idea of preinstalling a program on my puter for it to work. I was hoping that there was something that i just did not know about. as for the notes program, i found some sketching programs, but this pales in comparison to Notes. still looking. The lack of phone-as-modem is a deal-killer. I travel a lot and my phone is the only source for internet. Even if I were to settle with pdanet, afaik, it does not work on the distribution of linux that i have. I hate to say it, but i may have to reflash to WinMo.
The lack of Notes, i could live without, but phone-as-modem is essential. I may start a new thread on this, if I haven't found anything yet.

Easy tether is what I use and it works great.

This is my first App for Windows Phone 7 (or any system actually). It is a simple to use program to tell those other drivers what you think! This small and quick loading program presents you with 9 words to display on your screen in big bold letters. Sayings included:

The other advantage is they all have a 'mirror' mode, so other drivers can read the messages in their rear view mirrors! This was harder to do then just write the characters of the message backwards!

I originally had a few more harsh words in the program, but it was rejected by Microsoft for excessive use of adult language. It took several tries to get it approved. I originally had the words "ASS" and "****er" and was rejected, so I tried to go all Battlestar Galactica and substitute "Fracker!", but it was still rejected. So I then removed them and went with "Jerk!" and "Idiot!". I also predict that this program will be emulated/copied onto the iPhone and Android system by somebody else fairly soon, but I did it first!
If there is enough demand I will update the program to allow users to create their own messages and save them to the menu for quick easy selection, to by-pass Microsofts explicit language policy.

Yes, they are, we tested it. That is why the messages are short, so they can take the full screen. The text will be larger then US license plate lettering on any screen bigger then 3.5 inches. And it has more contrast then most license plate color combination's, so it should be no problem at all for most people and a decent distance away.
maybe you can made a small area where we can type a word(short to respect te full screen)

What if you have tinted windows ? Also, holding UP the phone like that while driving is kind of dangerous. The effort versus affect isn't worth the trouble. Try that in parts of California and you'll be wearing your WP7 up your arse, get shot at, or laughed at such a feeble minded display of cowardice. Better to be a defensive driver to avoid an accident.
I don't see anything that comes in handy! Nice effort mate but i still prefer my mouth and my finger.. it's much faster than Unlock your phone, open app and show it to the driver!

I just acquired a Nokia 920 yesterday. So far the handset is about the finest thing I have ever held, It just begs to be used when its in your hand. All is not perfect though, I have some questions. Any recommendations for solutions are greatly appreciated.
I started using PDA's in the early 90's, my first smart phone was a Blackberry, I switch to Android when they dropped the ball. I am of the opinion that the win8 ecosystem is the future for enterprise and productivity. Basically I expect a lot from a smart phone, I expect it to be a top notch PDA, a phone, and a good device for killing time.
1) How do you turn off the haptic feedback on the three hard buttons? I can't overstate how much I hate haptic feedback, this has me on the edge of returning the phone. I want to throw the phone across the room every time I feel it.
2) How do I turn off the touch points on the keyboard? I find having a little flag pop up with the letter I just pressed is annoying. Better yet, where can I get a decent keyboard? The installed keyboard is as bad as the iPhone one - crap. I can span 13 keys on a piano, I want my keyboard to span the screen, I want it to have alternate symbols accessible by long pressing, and it would be cool if it was skinnable, though the built in skin is nice for me. I tried the market place and all I could find was foreign alphabet keyboards.
3) Color coded emails. I did figure out how to merge both my calendars and my email accounts to a single tile. It would be nice to have some kind of color coding for the inbox so I don't have to open the email to see what account it is from.
4) recommend a good calendar. The default one only shows events for the same day. It would be nice to have the live tile show upcoming events in the future. The app must be able to let me make appointments as well. Did not find anything nice in the store.
5) A decent music player. As near as I can tell, Nokia music is just MS music re-skinned. When I hit the music tile, I want to see what I am currently listening too with buttons to skip/pause/etc. and a link to my library to change artists. Nokia Music is pure bloat, I have to navigate past market place stuff, then navigate around to find a pause button. Pretty much sucks to use. The mixer is buried inside the setting menu, so when I change music styles, I have to navigate down through the settings to change the mixer, then navigate back around to the music player. This whole set-up is about as crappy as anything I have ever seen. To make matters worse, the mixer is not pin able. I would love to have something comparable to PowerAmp.

The mixer is buried inside the setting menu, so when I change music styles, I have to navigate down through the settings to change the mixer, then navigate back around to the music player. This whole set-up is about as crappy as anything I have ever seen. To make matters worse, the mixer is not pin able. I would love to have something comparable to PowerAmp.

1) I have not yet seen a Nokia 920 yet, but in Samsung Omnia W/Samsung Flash, you can go to Settings->Extra Settings and remove it from there, check if you have a similar setting, you can request Nokia to add such a setting as its possible in Samsung and should be possible in Nokia too. If they get similar requests they may add it soon
2) AFAIK you cannot install another keyboard, but long pressing many keys you can have alternate symbols coming up. Did you try long pressing some keys? You can change the language of they keyboards via settings.
3) Dont merge the emails and have 2 separate very small tiles instead. Should solve your problem.
4) & 5) not sure yet. But since the SDK is updated with calender access soon you should get many apps with calender.

does the lumia 920 or any win phone 8 device have FM radio??? if it doesnt, is it supported in win phone 8??

Only thing in the Nokia extra settings is phone info, no actual settings at all.
Long pressing gives some alternate letter forms like hats, or umlauts. It does not work on all the letters, and you don't know what the long press gives you until you try it. Stuff like beta is on the lower case s, not the upper case. Like I said its a crap keyboard
I actually use 5 email accounts, though only 3 feed my calendar. Thanks for the suggestion though.
All devices support it as far as I know, but the software didn't made it to RTM. It will be in a upcoming update.
It's widely heralded as one of the best and most responsive keyboards ever...
- There is no built-in option to turn off haptic feedback on those keys. Manufacturer needs to develop an app (with interop level or higher access) to disable it, Microsoft needs to update the OS to add such an option, or someone has to hack the thing to turn it off. Considering that the first two probably won't happen in a timely fashion, and that WP8 has yet to be "hacked", don't expect this to change anytime soon.
- Keyboard cannot be changed. As someone mentioned, its actually heralded as one of the best keyboards on the market, and I agree. Once you get used to it, its a joy to use and is tons better than anything on Android, and as good as, if not better than the iOS keyboard. Seeing as how you said this is your first time in Windows Phone land, it may take some time for you to adjust to it, but it really is a wonderful keyboard. I do understand that it isn't for everyone, and unfortunately there is no way to change it if you happen to hate it. You also cannot disable the letter flags that appear on the screen when you tap on the keyboard.
- No color-coding for a combined inbox... yet. Not sure if this is something they are considering, and I don't think I've ever read someone suggesting it, but it makes sense, and I'd love to see this happen.
- Considering developers only really just got Calendar access with the WP8 SDK, I doubt there will be anything useful in the Store just yet. This a brand new platform that just launched, so its gonna take some time for people to figure out what they can or cannot do, and then put it on the Store for us to use.
- Xbox Music or Nokia Music will be as decent as it gets currently. Apps are able to pull from your media collection (like Nokia Music does), but I have not seen anything mind-blowing yet. I'm more than happy with Xbox Music, as it fulfills all my needs. I don't watch videos aside from stuff on YouTube though, so while I don't care for video codec support, I can understand not having total codec flexibility like you can on more open platforms or on apps like VLC.
It really sounds like that you, coming from Android, are expecting a lot more than Windows Phone 7/8 was designed to do. Windows Phone 8 can do a lot, but this OS was built from the ground up to be rather different than your typical PDA operating system. You will not get the same kind of flexibility on Windows Phone 8 that you would with Android.
For comparison:
- Windows Phone 7/8 is more like iOS. Relatively stable/reliable, curated store, locked down, relatively consistent.
- Android is more like old Windows Mobile. Infinitely more customizable and flexible, open market, relatively nonrestrictive, not very consistent, not completely reliable/stable.
I found a concept on uservoice (not in the first ranks lol). I doubt that Microsoft will ever consider that, but do you think it is possibile to realize it in alternative way? Take a look and tell me what do you think about that (it's a poor quality image)

I find it very simple and effective..so sorry that Microsoft will never realize those very good ideas..and instead of it, there will probably come a notification center As a separate app :s :s
Is it possible? Yes, of course (no offense, but this is a silly question; there's nothing technically difficult about it). Is it possible for homebrew (as opposed to Microsoft) developers to implement? Not at this time, but in concept, not hard. We just don't have the ability to replace the system binaries yet, or a few other pieces that we need. But assuming the existence of a unified notification system, and knowing where the switches for toggleable services are in the OS, we could combine those pieces easily enough.
One issue with that image: putting it on the Start button is kind of a stupid suggestion. For one thing, Start already does things on both normal press and press-and-hold. For another thing, the app switcher is already displayed when the user presses-and-holds the Back button. Changing that around now would just be confusing. I could imagine (but do not ever expect to see, at least not officially) a setting that lets the user choose what to do with each button... but for the mean time, they should keep the defaults as-is. They already screwed over the Search button...
No offense, don't worry your answers are always welcome because I can understand a lot from them. Anyway I suppose (and it's only mu tought) that this concept is concentrated on windows button because Microsoft in next releases will kill the back button (probably it will be replaced by an on-screen button)..or at least there are rumors about that. To be honest I find a clean phone more elegant than the ones with soft touch buttons..of course is only an estethical consideration
I'd like this concept, one of the best things of WP8 is that it's almost all C#. And C# code can be easily patched/decompiled/recreated. We just need to find a way to replace system binaries.
In any case, considering we have interop-unlock and can access some registry entries, I will not get surprised if we could replace the application that manages the home screen(which also manages the task manager) just by changing registry entries.
