Can I turn on usb file transfer on a Galaxy Note 5 with a broken screen? - Galaxy Note5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I am in dire need of assistance. My note 5 fell from about 30 meters and the screen was BROKEN and actually was SEPARATED from the body of the phone. To my utter amazement, the phone is still working. The phone charges normally, can be powered on and shutdown, can be unlocked by connecting a keyboard through an OTG cable, the speaker still works, and the vibration still works. There is no custom recovery on the phone and it's not rooted
I desperately need the data that's on the phone. I have tried using smart switch but it shows a message telling me that "USB file transfer" is not allowed. I tried using ADB but the phone is not detected when I use the adb devices command
All I need is a way to enable usb file transfer so I can backup the data on the phone using smart switch or a way to copy all the files from the phone.
CAN ANYBODY HELP ME?

Help me with Samsung Galaxy Mini II

Hello.
Short story: my phone was a little wet and i have some issues with it, mostly i want to get a mass storage to get working. (cant root)
Basically at first the phone didn't even want to charge, when i connected it to the PC windows was giving me an error that the device cannot be recognized, and couldn't install the drivers. (i had Kies installed)
I dried it completely, now the phone turns on without any problem, when i connect it to the pc the phone is recognizing connection (i hear sound + the button backlights are firing up for a sec)
Homever, windows is not detecting any USB device at all, and in about phone/info it says the phone is connected to the AC instead of USB.
When i connect it with USB there is no dropdown in notification to choose from charging, storage etc.
There is also manual usb storage mounting under settings/communication/usb settings , when i'm trying to mount here it just says to connect the phone with usb cable (not detecting connection, homever the backlight + sound is here after connecting, and it's charging)
I tried connecting it with usb debugging on/off even tried to fiddle with in service menu (*#7284#) but nothing.
And since i cannot get the usb storage working basically i cannot flash anything or root it.
Also the USB cable is not a Samsung but an HTC one, could this be a problem? (people in different thread said those cables are the same so it shouldnt be a problem, same amperage, same stick etc.)
Even tried to install MountUSB Widget from market, but it doesn't work when im trying to start the app it's force closing, when i make widget on desktop and press it the phone just vibrate for 1 sec and nothing happens.
When i connect phone with Kies AIR and it works, i mean it shows the storage information, also recognize the phone model correctly, how much free space i have on internal and on SD card but i cannot click "show in explorer" it's greyed out.
Any experts out there could help me?

Need help, please! Screen Problem

Here is the scoop. I dropped my phone, broke the digitizer, and successfully replaced it. Ultimately, somehow, I managed to "knick" the ribbon that connects the digitizer to the screen and other hardware. I no longer have screen control, though I have keyboard control.
Is there any way to connect a mouse to the Droid 4 to open the unlock screen so I can back up my information before I get a replacement through insurance?
I would prefer to wipe my phone before it goes of to get refurbished somewhere, but if buying a lapdock is my only option, I think I will just pull my sd card and call it a day.
Thanks in advance for any help.
*EDIT 08/25
The last time I used my phone before breaking it, I set the usb interface to "Charge Only". I cannot access my files via usb. After installing ADB, I still have no access as the sd cards are not recognized by Windows
I take it my options are the following:
1) Get ABD working
2) Buy a lapdock or $80 docking station to access phone without touchscreen
3) Pull SD card and get by without pulling information off phone and without a reset
Any other options? Any help/advise?

[Q] Have I just created a $600 paperweight?

Good evening everyone.
I have an AT&T Galaxy S6 that is under warranty. My left (recent) capacitive button has stopped working, so I'd like to replace my phone. Kick in the nuts number 1: I recently rooted my phone via PingPongRoot. No problem, I thought. I downloaded the stock firmware for the AT&T Samsung G920A, and prepared to flash the custom firmware. Kick in the nuts number 2: My data connection pins on the microUSB port are fried. I've tried 5 different USB cables, three different computers, and nothing. I've disabled and re-enabled the ADB debugging option from the developer menu. But everytime I start an ADB shell from the computer, I get nothing from the phone. Usually, the phone will say "phone is connected as a media device" or somesuch, but it only displays "charger connected". Also, normally, when I use the adb start-server command, my phone will ask me if I want to allow the computer to connect, but I do not get that prompt. adb devices returns nothing. I've tried factory resetting my phone 3 or 4 times to see if maybe it was an S6 end driver problem. No dice. So, I googled around, and it doesn't look like the firmware is possible to flash via the recovery menu? It looks like it must be flashed via Odin/Heimdall. Is this correct? And if so, does anyone have any ideas as to how I could fix this?
Thanks guys.
Your USB port is not fried, you just don't have proper ADB drivers. Lol. Google "Samsung ADB drivers" - install and reboot your computer. You also have to allow the RSA fingerprint of your computer, if you miss that prompt, you have to trigger it again. Do what I said and watch your screen when you plug it in.
Maybe I should have mentioned in my first post, only one of the PCS I used was running Windows, the rest were running Ubuntu. I will try one more windows machine with the drivers installed and report back. It's also worth noting that I tried 4 different USB OTG cables with all different kinds of devices (Flash drive, mouse, Keyboard), and none of them have been recognized either.

Bump. I really want to know if I can maybe flash the recovery firmware from the recovery menu?
Are you running a launcher that might be interfering with the device-connection detection? Launcher-Pro on my old GSII would prevent detection of the USB cable / ADB connection. Just a thought, AoN.

Screen Cracked. Can't access phone.

Hello everyone,
Just had a cracked screen on Z3+ and I can't seem to access my phone to backup important files. I need to enable USB debugging so I can control the phone from PC or use the "Detect USB Device" to enable the OTG and use a Mouse to control the phone. Any ideas?
Thanks,

Hello,
Unfortunately, with the Z3+ your screen becomes unresponsive once its cracked. The same happened to mine. The good news is there's a way of getting into the phone to backup and/or delete personal information before sending it off for repairs. You need a "otg usb on the go adapter cable", you connect one end to the phone and connect a mouse to the other end and use it to navigate the screen of your phone. There should be one among the accessories that came with the phone or you can get one on amazon or similar websites.
All the best.

Screen completely non-functional need to backup phone

So my Galaxy Note 9 ended up in the middle of a busy intersection for a while, needless to say the screen is completely destroyed. The phone is still operational in regards to it powers on and can receive calls and such. What I need to do is backup my device or transfer data to my new device. I tried connecting it up to a monitor via HDMI however there's a pop-up screen that it says I need to touch to activate Dex on the phone which I obviously cannot do. Anyone have any other ideas on how to backup all my settings from one phone to the other with a completely non-functional screen on the donor device?
You're probably just better off restoring the new phone from your cloud backup, assuming you set that up.
You could try getting DEX to work on your TV/monitor then backup through that using a bluetooth/wireless keyboard and mouse...
Shouldn't matter if you cant use touchscreen as it is mirrored on the TV...
If you connect to the DEX and still don't see anything then it's not just you screen that's dead...
Or if you have a usbc to multiport adaptor you can connect to the screen through HDMI and control DeX using a wired mouse through the USBA port.
Alternatively, download Samsung Smartswitch on PC and try connecting through that.

This is exactly what I was trying to do but I had not used DEX previously and there is an initial screen that you MUST touch the phone screen to get past. I was able to see the phone screen on the monitor however I could not see the Prompt that was only on the phone screen. Anyway I have moved forward with using google to restore most of my apps, thanks for the suggestions.
