Return to T-Mobile or Samsung direct? - T-Mobile Note 7 Questions & Answers

OK, calling T-Mobile and they claim they'll bill me for the Note7. Well, that makes no sense as I paid when I bought it. But just to get more info, I called the Samsung return line. They'll mail you a fireproof box and let you mail it back.
First, you go through someone who tries to convince you it's easier to take it back to T-Mobile. That may be true. Then you get the return group. They handle the phone, screen protectors and cases. Another group handles other return items.
With no receipts, you get $874 (IIRC) for the phone, $25 for a case and $10 for a screen protector. With receipts you get what you paid.
Two of three told me no returns on the wireless charger. One said yes on the charger purchased 3rd party.
One said $100 for the Gear VR. One said no return on Gear VR purchased 3rd party, and was cagey on any refund for a promo Gear VR. All said you'd get a check.
Procedure was to send an email listing all items you wanted refunds on with any receipt copies. (I think you can then check if everything is approved for refund before sending it back.) They'd send fireproof box in 5-7 days. You return box with refund items. Check arrives about 2 weeks later. All said additional $25 loyalty payment or $100 if you exchanged for another Galaxy.
I've got two phones, two VRs (one purchased and one promo) and a wireless charger that are useless. If I can return the charger and VRs, I'll go that route instead of direct to T-Mobile.
Has anyone else gone direct to Samsung?

T-Mobile removed my Note 7 from my account and Samsung sent me a fireproof box on 10/17 and they received it 10/24 with my case and screen protector. I already returned most my accessories to Amazon for full refunds. 2 weeks will be this Monday. I haven't received my check yet

I still have my Note 7. I've haven't had any heating issues, and even charged it overnight. Am keeping it until am forced to return it. Power House!

Talking to samsung now.
I call tmobile store every day looking for a black s7 edge (my old phone). No one has any.
Finally called the 1800 number and got someone who knows something. The lady said the black s7 edge has been pull from there site and they cabt even order them. So there isnt anything they can do if i want the black model.
So calling samsung now. Hopefully all will work out and they give me the phone i want.
If not then idk. Probably leave samsung all together, even tho ive been with them since the s2
---------- Post added at 10:00 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:31 AM ----------
Just got off the phone with them.
They set it up for someone from there company. To meet me. (sounds weird)
But got transfer from over sea to the US. The US lady said that they will contact my via phone. Setup a meet in the area. They will inspect the phone to verify all information.
Then i will be giving the BLACK tmobile s7 edge.
They will then pay for any acc i bring.
After that i will have to contact tmobile and let them know i did the exchange via samsung. (guess so tmobile can still charge me, i dont know ill have to see on that part).
They did say they will refund the difference and a small amount for all the trouble. Which i am guessing is the $100 that you get in store.

Has anyone gotten a refund for anything other than screen protector or case? I'm wondering about the Gear VR and the Samsung wireless charger we bought.

both of those items are not specific to the NOte 7 so you probably wont be getting a refund especially from what I have been reading. Plus its not like you cant use it with the other Samsung products out there.

We bought them because Samsung sold us a device that would work with them. Now we don't have anything that will work with them. It's financial harm to us caused by their recall. We shouldn't have to keep devices we paid for that are useless to us or take a loss by trying to resell as used. We were told by the Samsung rep that we'd be reimbursed, but it's not clear if he was correct.

I completely understand what you're trying to do but understand either one of those items are not specific to the Note 7 it's not like they won't work with other Samsung products. That may be what they tell you, I have come across other people with the same situation that have been told because they can be used with other Samsung products that there was no refund available for them. Don't hurt to try though good luck

I like to know, did they pay you back the tax they charged on the phone and accessories?

I sent my phone back to samsung direct in their "fire proof box". The customer service rep told me to put all accessories I bought for the Note7 in the box. If I had no receipt I would get market value for them. It was just the items I bought from ebay. I called yesterday to check the status since it has been 15 days now since they received it and she confirmed they have my phone and check will be mailed by end of the week. My phone was bought through Tmobile installment plan and was removed from my account without me turning the phone in so I am attempting to double dip for their inconvience. I have a V20 and hate it.

I'd appreciate it if you'd confirm that you get reimbursed for anything other than a screen protector and case.
Those two items I was told will be reimbursed at market value of $25 for case and $10 for protector.
I've got the V20 also. It's not as nice as the N7, but at least it's rooted and I can run Google Assistant. I'd really like to use the Gear VR, but that seems impossible.

Still no check here

We just got the fireproof boxes. We sent an email listing the items we proposed to return (exactly according to the reps instructions by phone), but haven't heard anything yet. We're planning to wait until they confirm what we can return and the refund amount.

I just received 2 emails from Samsung that my ticket was approved and I will receive my check for $924.49 in 2 to 3 days by UPS. No tracking number though.

thats good.
i am still waiting on my s7 edge to come.
They gave me a tracking number a few days ago but still havent updated pass billing.
There suppose to be sending me a s7 edge and taking back my note 7. I dont know how they are going to do the price different or tmobile EIP.
I guess i will see.
The only thing that i can see that isnt right, right now is the ups billing is for 1.0lb Which isnt the right weight if they are suppose to send a return box and new phone.
Well i guess we will see what happens. This has been a long long process.

Well today I received my check 8 days after the 169 samsung email

I still have my note 7. if I return it, will they refund the money I paid so far to T-Mobile? I preordered it.

I was wondering that too about my preorder money. I wonder how people got their note7 off eip without turining them in. I wonder if it's because they switched to using another phone.

Best option to insure old phone back to T-mobile

Good morning,
I just received my Note 4 two days ago, and am getting ready to mail my old G3 back to T-Mobile. Considering this is a 500 dollar phone I'm sending back, I plan on insuring it. My question is this. Are there any options, or is it even worth it, to send the phone via certified mail? I've read horror stories online about T-Mobile losing phones that were sent back due to a Jump upgrade, and then trying to pass the cost onto the customer. I was browsing the USPS website and I could only find options for certified letters, but not packages. Would it even be worth certifying it or would it just be better to get insurance on the item?

Definitely send it certified mail (green and white slip), that way you can track it. You can also add on a return label (green slip), which will be mailed back to you once they have received it.
Insurance wise it shouldn't cost that much...just do it if you can.
Congrats on your new note 4.
Thanks for the quick reply. Even if the certified mail is 20 bucks or so, it's better than T-Mobile throwing the cost of the phone at me when they inevitably lose it.

One quick question. I noticed in your signature you listed T-Mobile @ 107 mb/s. Where were you that you got that at? I'm lucky to pull 20.
Trust me do not send any phones to tmobile especially US mail.. I had a nightmare of a situation which I'm still paying for it to this day.. To make a long story short http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1824833
http://support.t-mobile.com/thread/39106
Insurance means nothing if the item shows up as delivered and tmobile denies even receiving it or the box was empty or the phone isn't as described.

I'm not sure what your options are... but I know I'm handling future transactions via T Mobile stores just to protect myself from the crap that's going on in that T Mobile warehouse in Texas.
Good Luck.

Just talked to my local T-Mobile store and the only option I have is to mail it back. I'll be insuring and certifying it with receipt acknowledgement. I won't be going through this again. Next time I jump I'm doing it in store. The stores have great customer service, it's that damned warehouse in Texas that screws everything up. This return label though is going to York PA. Maybe it won't go to Texas and everything will be good. Regardless, I'm getting a tracking number, it's getting certified, and it's getting insured for the full amount of the phone.

I had the exact same experience a couple years ago. I returned a Note 2 that I had purchased on the website. When I called a couple weeks later to check on the status I was told that the package was received and that it was empty, that it only contained accessories (and they treated me like a thief in the process). I was told this by many different people at their call center, always with the addition "if we find it, we'll let you know and credit your account". As if you can just "lose" a phone out of its box, it was like partial admission of guilt. After another 2 weeks of being on the edge waiting for some resolution, I finally got my $600+ refund and the explanation that someone in their receiving department "must have been checked it in wrong".
The moral of the story is that you're always taking a risk when you send something back, this is probably true of any online retailer. Insurance and signature confirmation helps to an extent, but you have no control over warehouse staff...after delivery you just have to hope that no "mistakes" are made. Having said that, I ordered my Note 4 online, but I guess i'm a glutton for punishment when there's a $30 coupon involved. They really should allow returns in stores. Just know the risk.

I ran into this when I sent my SGN3 in. I wrapped my phone in additional bubble wrap and packaged in the envelope provided. As the letter provided to me stated I could add additional insurance if I wanted on my own dime. When I went to USPS they told me if I added the insurance IT WOULD CANCEL MY FREE SHIPPING AND I WOULD HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET FOR SHIPPING. Even worse the label provided to me wouldn't scan in their system so I could not even receive a receipt of acceptance from them. I sent it out anyways but called Tmobile customer service immediately to make note in their system I had sent it out. I took the time to tell them my ordeal and that's when they dropped on me "in the future/next time" they would reimburse me for that shipping charge by deducting it from my bill, just let them know. Fortunately my phone got to them and I received a text message letting me know we were square.
Also, I don't know about needing to certify it as Delivery Confirmation would get you the details and the insurance covers any lost mail.
*edit*
after reading the horror post of the lost phone, certifying isn't that bad of an idea, see it you can get tmo to reimburse that too. They won't reimburse the insurance but the s/h should be good to go.

Well, good news. I just got my e-mail notification that my EIP plan has been credited the 277 dollars for my Jump Trade-in as well as my bill due amount dropped to reflect the changed EIP amount.

Out of Stock / Shortages for Exchanges

I'm In Greensboro, NC, and have been told there are no Note7 phones for exchange in the area - closest in Charlotte, NC. I was also told by a manager the "promotions" end on 9/30, and after that: re-stocking fees will apply, phone must be returned with accessories and charger, no color or model changes. When I asked when they expected shipments of phones in, I was told it would be sometime next week.
Anyone else hearing about shortages of Note7 phones for exchange?
I ordered one through customer service last night. They said nothing about shortages, but I wouldn't be surprised. Customer service is stocked full of liars.
According to the sales rep that exchanged my Note 7 yesterday, T-Mobile has been changing the return process daily so this manager may not have the lasted procedures. I see no need to return the box and all the accessories unless someone is trying to make a killing on eBay on used Note 7 items.

That and this is no "promotion." Samsung, through their sales agent T-Mobile, is required by law to accept defective units in exchange for as long as they are out in the wild. They don't need the original packaging.
That said, if all you present is a phone, that's all T-Mobile is required to give you in exchange. They don't have to give you the box and the goodies that came with it.
On 9/21 stores around my area had long lines with long waiting time, I did not have time to wait and today (9/22) they are all out of stock. However the way I understand it, recall is a recall and there is no time limit especially if they run out of stock, so I don't worry too much about it. As far as exact procedure: some people didn't return box at all and had no problem, some needed at least empty box to return (quiet few of my coworkers have N7), so there might be some confusion among clerks how to proceed, but that's expected since recall of this magnitude is unusual and procedures are made as we go along. As a side note: I was hopping some people would jump ship and leave more replacement N7's for me to choose from , but doesn't seem it's happening that often, for example none of the 6 people I know who got N7, went for something else, they all just replaced it with new N7, so no wonder they're out of stock, but more comming soon.

When I exchanged mine, they asked for the box as it was easier for them as it had the SKU number on it they could scan rather than look for it in the account notes and copy paste it. They said it wasn't required and that I could have it back if I wanted (they didn't give it back.) This was the same for the loaner they took back in the store as well. When they went to get my EIP cleared so I could get the new phone, they made me give back the loaner and the retail CS rep that was on the phone with the store processed that return too. Took about an hour and 15 minutes but I love my new device and my account seems all in order after two EIP refunds and a new phone added. Crystal Lake, IL.
They also refunded all the EIP/downpayment/taxes I paid so far on the recalled note 7 and recharged me all of it for the new one.

I would. You got stores selling the device to people who never had the note 7 to begin with...have people saying they had it ship to stores, It definitely will NOT hurt. This recall showed some ugly inconsistent side to tmobile I think even they want to fix

I called Wednesday night to order one. I got an immediate text confirming the order. I haven't yet received shipping information. Par for the course at T-Mobile.
I do concede that I called about 6:30 PM and that I might have passed the deadline for shipping Wednesday. However, Thursday has come and gone without further word.
It's a real shame that you can speak to three people at T-Mobile and get three completely different and contradictory answers.
Well i show up on the 21, waited a little over and hour at tmobile.
Finally get up there and told they sold out and dont have any more black note 7 and they never got any sliver ones (wife has sliver).
So called a few more stores and same crap no one had any left.
Called the 1-800 number and was told they have to order them to the store. So did so, last night my wife got a text saying her has been ship.
Mines still no update.
But i have talk with a few other people and they said all tmobile needs is just the phone itself. So i plan on keeping my spend. Already upset that i gotta lost my skinomi screen protector and buy a new one, upset that i waited in line that to be told they dont have any. When i first walk in they knew why we where there.
So i will be keeping my box, charger, cable, otg and spen.
And there isnt any deline on the return. BY LAW they have to waive all fees and do the exchange. Doesnt matter how long it takes or what there stock looks like. If you have an effected device they have to exchange it.

I called Wednesday night to order two, and the representative said they should arrive in the store by Monday. I got texts the following morning confirming the order, immediately followed by texts stating that the phones were on back order. No ETA was given. So I don't know if they're arriving this weekend or November. There's no indication of an order on the web site.

My saga gets even more interesting. I just got a text saying that I'm no longer eligible for the Note 7 exchange program. When I went to the T-Mobile website to find out why, there's a bill sitting there for the monthly charge on an S7 that I never got and a deposit and lease payment for the loaner S7 Edge that I never put in service.
Called Thursday to get replacement and was put on a call list....next day got called while at work that phones were in stock and to come before 7pm to get the swap done same day. Got there at 6pm...walked in store they announce a 2hr wait...put name on list with number....2 and a half hpurs later they weren't answering the phone....decide to drive over to check the situation....30 minutes before closing they're door was locked, with a few customers still in the store finishing their transactions......i was pissed but contained, talked to the rep through the door and she apologized and asked me to arrive 10 minutes before opening the next day....i agree. Come back this morning as we agreed 15 minutes before they opened and there was already about 5 people waiting in line....dammit i thought....suddenly the door cracked open the rep from the night before waved me in and gracefully ran through my swap....took about 20 minutes and she was a peach. Glad to have my replacement plus dual accessories including SPen. Didn't power phone till i was ready to root, and kept the sim card removed until phone was rooted and restored with my titanium backup.
Btw i took my original box minus everything in it cause while they should and will return without the box, it really makes their job easier and from what i gathered they are dealing with these swaps from the start of the business day to closing with continuous lines forming.
It sucked being turned away yesterday but today's service left me feeling good.
Just moved from NJ to GA. On the 21st i called a tmobile in Riverdale they had 7 available all blue. They didn't ask for anything the rep went right into the info and got the imei. The phone didnt even have the spen in it. They told me by the time i got there at noon there was only 2 left and they couldnt. Wait till they was done with these because of the process they had to go thru. Only issue i had was that they told me everything would stay the same. But I only had 23 payments left on my note 7 since i preordered it and got it when it cameout. They restarted my payments back to 24 and didnt refund me the $32.50 i had to call tmobile to get that credited back to me. So watchout for that.

PSA For Note 7 Owners On JUMP

Hi All,
I called T-Mobile today trying to find out what I can do with my "recalled" Note 7. I had ordered replacements over the phone and today was my last day to carry out the exchange at a store. I've had no problems with the 4 of them in my house. I was denied the exchange for the replacement Note 7 at the store. And somehow was also denied a refund/exchange for a different phone.
On the first try with customer service they connected me with an account specialist. She told me that the phone had been completely pulled from their inventory. As of today, the 10th of October the phone is no longer for sale. Even the replacement Note 7's were recalled. But here's the worst news for everyone who wants to keep the phone. She told me that as part of the recall I had to bring the phone back. I asked her about keeping it then using a JUMP upgrade when a newer phone came out. She informed me that they wouldn't accept the phone for trade in because sales were fully halted and customers have an opportunity to return their device.
So you're pretty much stuck with the phone and unable to have a phone to trade in, should you keep your Note 7. We can of course return the phone for a full refund and get something else. I'm eyeing the S7 Edge for the water resistance and the Micro SD cards I got from Samsung.I really didn't want to let this phone go, but I'm paying for JUMP (the very first one when they started the Uncarrier movement) and would like to be able to trade my phone in for the latest and greatest. I hope this helps you ease our concerns about JUMP and the Note 7.
TL;DR: You can't keep your Note 7 if you plan on upgrading to a new phone on JUMP. They won't accept it as a trade in because they're giving you a "choice" of getting a refund and getting another phone.

Wow, didn't think about that. Not sure what I'm gonna do, however historically I've kept all my Notes (2,3,4). Choices, choices.....hmmm
Wow!
Reps really don't know what they are talking about either.
If I would you, I would screenshot your post and post it to the twitter handle. Tag @JohnLegere and @Tmobilehelp and see if they would comment on this.
I'm not sure about a regular CS representative. But she was an account specialist. They are the ones with the power to make any changes to your account right away. I've had them do it before where a store messed up my JUMP upgrades and changed all the lines to JUMP 2 as opposed to the original JUMP. It took over an hour to get ahold of them that time, but the process was painless as soon as I got on the phone with them. They even credited me the EIP I owed on 4 phones because they were out of my hands and hadn't been processed yet, but the charge was on the bill. It happened again today, I had been credited for 3/4 phones and was still charged an EIP on the 4th phone, despite sending out all 4 of them on the same day. She credited the amount due and my bill was reduced.
I didn't get the Note 7 off of Jump! but if I understand the policy correctly, then this pretty much pays off Jump for you and gets you off the contract, which is great.
Right now you're paying the EIP monthly for the Note 7. Why don't you just pay off the Note 7 completely today, and then return the Note 7 device for the full refund. Doesn't that make you finished with the jump contract and free to get non-carrier phones like the Pixel? It also means you paid less overall since they bought back your first Jump phone for half the price, so you only paid half price for the phone before the note 7 overall which is a great deal.
No idea why that would be a surprise, or a wow moment. T-Mobile doesn't want to have any inventory of a phone they can not, not allowed to sell.
Makes my note 5 all the more the superior device lol.
Add into the fact that JUMP is also INS and if you break it, you're probably NOT going to get a repair. At least it is if you're on the original JUMP program.
This doesnt come as a surprise.
Once they cancel or recall a phone its obvious you cant use it as a JUMP device.

Don't waste your time at the @Tmobile account. I spent six days there getting lied to trying to get assistance on a loaner for the first Note 7 recall. Go right to John Legere's Twitter feed. I got an almost immediate response.
Maybe if his executive staff gets pestered enough, he'll fix his ****ty customer service.
I always got almost immediate answers from @Tmobilehelp .

Has there been any date published on how long we have to exchange it? I purchased one after they went back on sale and was wondering if I'm able to hold on to it until the new LG V20 is released.

Same here. Have this phone for only one day. I will return it ASAP before I get too attached.
If that is indeed the case (per what the OP said), then T-Mobile can't charge you the monthly charge for the Note 7. Which means, when you're ready to JUMP, you won't need to turn anything in.. you just get the new phone and start your new lease. IMO
I had posted a separate thread on this yesterday. Those of us that used JUMP! to upgrade our Note 5 phones are taking it in the shorts here. I had paid off half of that phone, paid $69 for the upgrade to Note 7, Paid a month or so on the Note 7 itself, and now I lose all of that money since I have to get another (non-flagship) phone. If I want to stay on the Note lineup, I have to go back to the Note 5, starting over on payments and losing not only the 12 months of payments, but also the upgrade taxes and fees to go to the Note 7.
Sucks!
Does this apply to JOD also?
so will we get to keep our note 7 for free?!
I tweeted John and TmobileCS said All phones can be returned for a refund including purchased accessories.

from what I was just told apparently not but I was also told the first JUMP! program wont be affected either. You can JUMP whenever you want without a penalty but again different CS different answer
I called about the JOD this morning. We switched to T-Mobile in January and I had the Note 5, then went to the S7 Edge when it came out, then went to the Note 7 (back to an S7 edge and back to the new and improved explosive Note 7). I want to get this turned in because it has got hot a couple of time while charging. However I want the V20 so I wanted to make sure that if I go in now and get the V10 that I will still be able to Jump to the V20 when the pre order comes out next week. I was told there will be no issue with that, at this point T-Mobile just wants their customers safe. So I am heading in after work to switch out our two Note 7s for V10's and then pre ordering V20's next week.

Who has received their Note 8 from Best Buy?

I just pre-ordered my Sprint Note 8 online at bestbuy.com a couple days ago. Says I will receive it by the 15th. Has anyone received theirs yet? I got the email confirmation of my order but when I login my account on best buy to check order status, I get this error message. The money has already been deducted out of my bank account. Anyone else experiencing this? Just want to make sure my order went through.
I just checked. Mine (VZW) are still sitting in preordered status. I wonder if I'll see them on the 15th, or after. My experience with BB orders is that they rarely come when the order page says that they will.
My credit card has not been charged yet.

Yeah not sure. Last time I pre-ordered was my s8 plus thru sprint best buy but it was for store pickup, not actual shipping and it was ready for pickup on the release date, not any sooner.
I wonder why VZW was allowed to ship over 2 weeks early. I cancelled my BB order because VZW told me I would not get the 480 for my S7 Edge if I bought from Best Buy. Best buy said I would but once a VZW order was received I pre ordered from VZW last Tuesday and I had the phone on Weds. It sucked that I missed out on the 150 off but I'd be flaming mad if I could not get my 480 bill credit. My bet is anyone who ordered from Best Buy will get their trade in as t says it right on the BB page. Make sure you take screen shots in case you have an issue later.

Yea. I have no idea why in-store pickup wasn't a choice this time around.
I received mine last Thursday or Friday, a week ahead of the official Sept. 15th launch. I purchased the unlocked version.
I pre-ordered mine on Saturday online from bb and was having second thoughts because Verizon had told me I was not going to get the 480 if I did my deal with bb. So I ordered it anyways and logged on to my Verizon the note 8 was on my account already and was able to do the promo with the trade in. 12.75 a month for a note 8 is one hell of a deal. And I got me email saying I'll get it on the 15. Hope sooner
I actually just got a email that mine has shipped. Got tracking info for UPS. Should be here in the next couple days. Excited!!!!

I ordered from BB. Received it on the 6th. I tried to trade in my s7 edge online, but the page was experiencing problems. I chatted online and they said I could go in store. So today, that's what I did. The rep said they couldn't give me the promotional price, that I would have to go to best buy, I asked him to ask a manager. Same thing. So, At BB, they tried logging in on the same page I did, same problem. The BB manager called the district manager for Verizon (their buddies) and she said, I Will receive the promotional trade in. She said they should've done it at the corporate store. I told her what they had told me, and she told me she would be there at that store at 630 tonight, and for me to come in and she will personally take care of it! She said we have 14 days from the purchase date to decide if we want to trade in. I will be going there in like 30 minutes. So, I will report back with my findings! Until then...

Unreal. They need to have a quick online "class" for all corporate Verizon employees so they know the deal. It's a deal struck between best buy and Verizon - this shouldn't be such a hassle for customers. Luckily, the dude at my corporate store already told me I could walk in and give it to them and they'd apply the discount.
All you should need to do is activate it then log into your carrier site. Once the system sees you have a Note 8, the discount should show when you go to the trade in section. At least that is how it worked on Verizon site. Before I activated my Note 8 it said my S7 Edge was worth 175. Once I activated the Note 8 and did their trade in it showed the 480 bill credit option. Just make sure you don't click you want cash. You'll only get the crappy value.
Got mine
I ordered online on the 9/6. I got it on 9/8. The only problem I had was I couldn't activate it because the SIM card number printed on the box was different than the one in the Note 8. After 2 calls to Verizon and 1 call to BB, I was finally able to activate after giving Verizon the correct SIM number. BB screwed up causing me to spend over an hour activating the Note 8. My advice is to check the SIM card in the Note 8 with what is printed on the box if you have problems activating. Otherwise, I'm enjoying the Note 8. But, I'll probably not uss BB again to buy a phone.
Ordered on 24th and received my unlocked Note 8 today.
Ok, Here's my report: The lady I was supposed to be meeting, had an emergency and couldn't show up. She called the store manager and told him what to do. Basically, all they have to do is go into your account and TRY! If the device was on your account, on the line that your note 8 is now on, it will work! If they say it won't, ask them to try anyways and see the trade in value. It will show the "normal" trade in value and underneath is a checkbox labeled - Promotion. Click and then they inspect the phone, blah, blah, blah. $306 for a note 8, 12.75 a month for 24 months.
A side note, the credit is actually $20 off a month for 24 months. I asked about paying off the balance for a future upgrade, he said he wasn't sure how that would work, but thinks you would have to pay the actual current balance and the $20 off a month would roll over to the next phone. However, he was unsure so take that with a grain of salt.

I ordered the N8 through BB and here is how it went:
9/5 - received text that my order has shipped
9/6 - received phone and text from VZW that my port was complete, called and tried to get phone activated but no go
9/7 - called to tried to get it activated again, got hung up on several times, they told me it wouldn't work until the 8th at noon
9/8 - noon came at went and no-go, called VZW, BB, Straight Talk and was told that it wasn't going to be live until 9/10, went to BB and VZW store and same thing except BB was very rude and unhelpful. Took to twitter @VZWSupport and @bestbuySupport and within 15 minutes my phone was working. Coincidence?
I love the phone. I installed Bk Disabler and removed the bloat. Tether is now working. I'm hoping someone has a way to disable knox and OTA.
Edit FOUND how to disable OTA in developer options.
Thanks.
Looks like my phone got delivered today. Can't wait to get home to check it out and get it activated. Will it come with a new SIM card or can I use the one from my s8+?

Unlocked has no sim card. Carrier supplied ones typically do.
Just take the SIM from your s8+ and toss it in the Note8. That's what I did.
Mine is unlocked and I'm on Verizon so after putting in the SIM the phone had to be rebooted and it sat at a funny looking "configuring" screen for about two minutes, then rebooted and it was ready for service immediately. There's no wifi calling option on unlocked but I'm not in a hurry to get it anyways. Not having all that Verizon crap is worth losing ho-hum features IMHO.
ofd now if ups would just get here. like watching grass grow...

No Replacement Program for Note 8 bought from Samsung!

After going thru the Note 7 fiasco twice, preordered a Unlocked note 8 from Samsung. It has a hardware issue that prevents it from automatically charging when connected.
SAMSUNG HAS NO REPLACEMENT PROGRAM FOR A NEW NOTE 8 THAT IS MALFUNCTIONING, SO BUYER BEWARE.
They will offer a full refund if you send back the phone with the included SD card and wireless charger. Unfortunately, I have already sent them the phone I bought in the meantime (Pixel XL) for a trade in.
I now will have to send the brand new phone in for repair. Lovely support for direct buyers who supported Samsung during the exploding note 7 events.
Last Samsung phone I will ever buy. What a disappointment.

If I want to send my Note 8 back to them with the included wireless charger freebie, I threw the box of the charger out, any issues? Also my micro SD card is on back order. I am aware that all freebies need to be sent back also.
I tried to get them to fix my broken wireless charging, they say thier own quick charger is not compatible. Lol. I am sending the info to the Qi alliance..

Didn't you folks who did the N7 promo pre-order get the Samsung Premium Care included free? It came with my pre-order. That service claims they repair/replace the phone very quickly, "hand delivered" to your home, etc. I thought I got 2 months for free, but maybe it's only 1.
doesn't the cc you bought it with have some kind of a warranty?

I am NOT a lawyer.
Is that situation legal? I have never heard such a case, not even in this country where customer care is an unknown concept! Customers here are simply a disruption to to the life of sales staff! If I have a problem I ALWAYS ask for the manager even then its hit and miss.
That is a disgrace and you simply MUST protest and speak with a manager, not the person who answers the call lines etc. Write a letter of complaint, keep all copies. Samsung should receive your faulty mobile and simply ship you a new one as all outlets do in person.
Have you read your order contract? It may well be where you live 'all' Samsung must do is refund you? If that is the case and I have no idea, you maybe stuffed? I do know that no company can write regulations that are contrary to the law of the land.
Absurd situation. You must not let this rest. Fight for your rights. Please let us know how you progress and the very best of luck.

As painful as it might be, can you tell us what you have done to date? Have you written to Samsung, sent an email, spoken to a manager or the customer services department? Your original post is disturbing and you MUST not accept such a situation BUT i'm afraid its you that has to sort it out.
If you are dealing with phone reps you are wasting your time. Are you in the USA? In Europe there are numerous consumer help offices that will willingly and freely take such cases on your behalf and do their best to sort things out.
In most countries in Europe at least one of those such consumer bodies have legal teeth. Use one.
A massive multi national like Samsung will have a way of ensuring your faulty mobile is replaced with a new one without it affecting your pre sale offers. You 'just' need to contact the right person and that IS a problem.

I agree but Samsung could, if they wished, get a replacement from a store that has overstocked then replace the OP's mobile. One has to insist and fight and that's also unacceptable.
Samsung in this country have a very cleaver way of passing the buck. Samsung don't sell direct to the customer despite they have their Samsung site BUT Samsung here use sub contractors as distributors so if one has a problem all Samsung do is suggest the customer contact said distributor!
Experts at covering themselves by passing the buck and dodging responsibility. Such practices are not illegal either.
WE have actual Samsung shops here. Everything Samsung from the carpet to the sales staff uniforms etc blah blah. They will sell you anything Samsung BUT if a problem arrisses they will inform you they are 'just' a franchise and cant help you!
When Nokia was big it was exactly the same situation, still is for the fruity brand! No idea how they get away with it?

Almost makes me want to cancel my pre order and pay $300 more to get it from Best Buy or Sprint :/. I don't want to send my Note 5 to Samsuck and be without a phone. I actually can't, I work from home and use my phone for work. Sucks that Sprint and Best Buy don't honor Samsung's promotion.
Thanks for all the replies. I finally reached high enough in the ladder at Samsung for them to offer a replacement in 2-3 weeks. I can live with that, as the phone is usable, just a PITA to charge (phone often has to be restarted b4 charging. We will see how this turns out.

Looked up my account to see I am a long time note user. At least he gave me a ticket number for the problem, I will keep you posted after any change.
(If you let them call you back when talking to the e-commerce division, they seem to be a little less rattled, and more willing to deal with you). YMMV

I didn't get that far with them. I even talked to Executive Customer Relations and they said they would not send a replacement if I had not already sent it in for repair which is ridiculous because it is a brand new freaking phone. The only option they gave me was refund and reorder.
That opened up a whole other can of worms where the freebies aren't available anymore and had to complain about that till they let me keep the freebies from the defective phone order, but I'm still having to wait for a brand new link to get the $425 off due to being an old Note 7 user.
All they simply had to do was return and replace but they have absolutely no mechanism to do that. Ridiculous for a company that big.

I’m in the same boat, lost my note 7 trade in promo and they have my trade in since sept 15th. Will issue a so called coupon 6-8 WEEKS, WHEN all the note 7 promotions will be over with.

I have premium care and it offers no deductible so I’m thinking about going this route to get a exchange replacement but that replacement could be a refurbished unit, highly unlikely this early. Need to call Samsung direct tomorrow and get this figured out .
Consumer Credit Act 2015 (UK)
If you purchase online you has the distance sales protection of reurting the item as per the suppliers terms and condition which is usually within 14 days for a no question/reason refund. Please check the returns policy.
if the product develops a fault within 30 days you have two options.
1. Request a full refund
2. Request a brand new replacement
if after 30 days and before 6 months of the purchase date your product develops a fault the company has only 1 oppertunity to fix the product. If the phone has a further fault then you can request a full refund.
If after 6 months but before 12 months you can request a refund but they can deduct for fair wear and tear.
hope this helps!
