Does anyone know why this device is still unavailable on Amazon? It's been over 2 wks - BLU R1 HD Questions & Answers

I've called Blu and they're not aware of the reason. We even have an Amazon Pop-up store in our local mall and the associates told me that they have them in their stock but we told in an email that they cannot be sold at this time (without a reason).
Any thoughts?

There have been a few rumors and a lot of speculation going around. An upgraded version of the phone, the R1 Plus, was leaked to the internet, and is supposedly coming soon. It may be replacing the HD. I saw in the general discussion some speculation wondering if the phone was pulled so Blu could upgrade the firmware to 6.6 to prevent root before re-listing it for sale (though the patches on 6.6 have already been circumvented).
I did hear a rumor that there was an issue with battery fires, but could not find any reports. Without more information, I wouldn't worry about that; its likely just a result from heightened publicity due to the Note 7...

Thanks for the info! I guess I'll just wait it out because I like the overall reviews of this phone and believe it, or an upgrades/plus version, would be ideal for our need.

[Q] When is the 10" Elocity coming out

Thinking about getting A7 ,but want to see the new ones first,I know I can preorder but when will they be out
I heard it was suppose to be March the 7th, but other than that I am not sure. SteamTV has been promising to release A10 since January 18th and than in Feburary so don't be too shocked if it still shows up as Preorder.
Its 3/8/2011 and the A10 is STILL on the pre order list at Tiger!. I wonder if it will be at stores by 2012?
Is this about accessories?
I don't trust the company, or the specs on the A10
The reason why I don't trust the company is obvious - repeatedly delayed, with no explanation. This is not the way to build a customer base.
The reason why I don't trust the specs is that Apple is releasing the iPad 2 with a 1024x768 screen, and the new Malata device is also being released with the same. So, am I to believe that Stream TV managed to get a higher resolution IPS screen into their A10, whereas Apple could not? I am not convinced.
If this ever gets released (I'm still guessing EO this month or April), I want to hear reviews first before I decide to push the button. Bottom line: If they backpedal on the specs and add a TFT screen instead of IPS, there's no way that I'm buying this thing.
Stream TV, prove me wrong here. Get on XDA and tell us what's going on - this is a situation where I WANT to be proved wrong.
10" Elocity release? Have a 7", wishing not...
I wouldn't put much credence into anything Elocity says at this point. We've had the A7 since January, and thanks only to Dexter's mod making this thing truly usable, we didn't return it. Usable, that is, until I did Elocity's latest FW update. Mistake. Can no longer download from market. Did cache clear, data wipe, tried reinstalling Dex's mod, all to no avail. I'ts like the standard POS we got back in Jan all over again. Spent hours messing with this thing today and I'm pretty sick of it. Tried restore after restore of backups and it runs and runs for hours before finally blanking out and going to home screen, not having done the backup no less. Anyone else having the same issues with the latest Elocity FW update?
Don't expect Elocity to do anything about it
I'm waiting until the end of April, and after an initial review before I also buy the device. Dexter did a great job keeping us appeased with A7. I am not sure whats going on lately with SteamTV, somehow I think they wanted to get honeycomb and couldn't so now they might be waiting again. By that time I will probably find something else of interest.
I love my A7...
I think a 10" would be too big. But agreed, they need to stop delaying on everything. This is why the customer base is so small. Solid product though.

having the same issues today. Elocity only says to do the factory reset, which takes me down to the original awful firmware. Any updates or mods I try to install won't run and the A7 gets stuck at the word "Android" without moving forward into booting up all the way.

All Android devices need continued os and bug fix updates

http://www.facebook.com/motorola?sk=wall&filter=1 click the link people like it and comment on it.
I have seen first hand proof of this working. I had an evo 3d. Htc decided all futre devices would have locked bootliaders well that made alot of people angry. Someone posted a thread on xda suggesting we let htc know that is not gna fly. So it turnd out thousands of people got on there facebook wall and twitter. Guess what the next day htc released a statement saying that they wanted too keep there coustamers happy and that the bootloader would be unlocked. They were. Id like to be able too have a device and not have too get a new one juzt because moto or htc or sammy wants too put them out constantly get people too buy them and then ditch them and out out another. The atrix is 100 percent capable of runing ics and theres no excuae for it l not too recieve it just because moto wants people too buy new devices every couple months. I know many many people feel the same way well as i said we have the power too change that if people would stop bickering and take it seriously. And also if moto started supporting devices longer not just bug fixes but the new android flavors. Id definately make my next device a moto it would do nothing but benefit them
Why are we discussing/petitioning something that we don't know? Has it been set in stone that manufacturers will not support us anymore or is this all stemming from paranoia?
Because it is the trend. And the atrix 2 has been released already. All the manufactures with the exception of sammy have been doing this more and more lately abandoning. Devices. And pumping out new ones. At a very fast pace
So you are saying they are not going to support the atrix anymore since they released the atrix 2? I'd rather wait till this actually happens before i draw a conclusion. e.g. when ICS gets released and they say they are not going to update the atrix.

Look at the original Incredible.
My wife's one has been turned to **** since the 2.3.4 update, and nothing from HTC, and Verizon pretty much said too bad so sad. Buy another phone or deal with it.
So yes, support will be dropped for older models whether you like to assumed it or not.

No it is obvious support is going to be dropped for old models. But he is implying that models released this year will not get support.
I think for every $10 a phone costs over $50 on launch day (on contract) is how many months it should be updated for. So a $300 phone should be kept updated for 25 months. So this would either keep phone prices lower or keep them updated.
Facebook is a poor way of getting the attention of corporations. You want them to change? Buy a nexus phone. Money talks.

I think ICS only has support for Armv7 currently, so phones with those SoCs will get updated. However, phones using custom UIs will experience a longer waiting time, maybe around early Q1 of 2012. HTC has released like 1000 phones in the last few months and I doubt most will get ICS soon, not sure if Moto will bother at all. But it might be better to wait and actually see what goes down, like you said.
Has HTC in fact locked a boot loader or withheld hardware drivers?
I intend for my next phone to be HTC just because of the hell Samsung put us though trying to get GB on the i9000.

HTC new phones i believe i read come locked.
You can unlock them direct with HTC, but you loose all warranty. As per HTC.

As I understand it, you lose all ROM related warranty, so for instance if your screen fails then you're still covered.
Motorola unlocking bootloaders ??
you should check this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1316722
I had a motorola xt720.... not the best phone..but was ok. Motorola decided to stop supporting it within 4 months of launch or something stupid like that. No new updates no nothing. And still insisted on the bootloader staying locked so the dev's found it alot harder to do their job for them.
I will never ever buy a motorola product again.
The market is fairly competitive ... don't buy from companies that pull this crap

[Q] Will the sins of my past haunt me? .893 user

Will the sins of my past haunt me?
I have seen discussions on other forums about how those of us who used Cheesecake to install .893 from the Moto servers will not be able to take advantage of future updates.
I hope Motorola keeps in mind why customers installed .893. I paid $300 for a phone that had significant data connectivity problems. It was frustrating to know that Motorola had a fix available but I could not take advantage of it. I totally understand the need for Motorola to go through a careful quality assurance process, and I agree with it.
As an experience IT professional I read up on how to install the leaked update. I was confident I could do it without bricking my phone. I also read that it may take me off the update path, although I am optimistic this will not be the case. I knew I was installing the update at my own risk. Had I bricked the phone then I would accept the responsibility. I did not.
The leaked update significantly improved my data connectivity. I am thrilled with the phone. I also am looking forward to continuing down the upgrade path. I will be very upset if Motorola deliberately prevents this because I installed there, albeit leaked, update to resolve the known issues that existed with their phone.
I was not trying to get something I did not deserve. I was trying to get what I paid for, a working phone with reliable data connectivity. I use the phone for business and I absolutely require a smart phone with data. Had I not applied the .893 update I would have been forced to revert to my OG Droid. I did not apply this update to get anything more then what I paid for.
The decision is Motorola’s. Although I think it is wrong, Motorola can lock us out from future upgrades. There is not much we can do about it, except not buy Motorola in the future.
I believe Motorola is an awsome company and will make what I believe is the correct decision. If they don’t I suspect there will be a developer that will come up with a work around. Of course this will further push me off the upgrade path.
I would prefer to be completely stock. I do not need to be rooted. I do not want what I did not pay for. However, the only way I could use the phone’s data capability, a requirement for getting email, was to install the update.
This new, 'unable to upgrade unless stock' just adds to the whole bionic disaster. I was in your boat and held off for as long add I could stand it.. My 500 dollar phone was basically a useless paper weight. The data drops were horrid. Most days I had no data and battery pulls were a frequent part of the 'user experience'. I can't remember being this angry over some thing I have bought. After the uptenth release delay I tools myself I wasn't buying it. unfortunately the phone I had was done for, and I gave it a shot. At this point moto would have to do something extraordinary for me to buy anything from them again. I was looking a an Xoom... But decided on a Toshiba thrive. Their customer service is a wee bit better. Hopefully a Dev will come up worth a solution to this and I will be able to have a useable phone for the next year.

I was in the same boat you're in, but Verizon insisted on sending me out a new phone last week. I will be buying a Galaxy Nexus for full price as soon as it's out. I returned my phone to stock .886 (I know the radio and kernel don't go back) and removed root before I sent my old phone back. I am using the new phone they sent right now. I rooted it to use Titanium Backup, but I sure as heck won't upgrade it again so I can sell it as soon as the Nexus is out and won't have to disclose that I upgraded it
They really have no choice unless they want to replace alot of Bionics.
I will recieve the official updates (including ICS) or I will insist on a replacement phone from Big Red. I'm sure I'm not the only one here. I pay for unlimited data, not occassional data. Not to go off topic, but I use less than 1GB of data a month, I don't feel guilty using the FREE hotspot to tether my Xoom. Contracts are supposed to benefit BOTH parties.
The .893 update might very well be the official update. I called moto and asked them about this potential problem. They saw that my system was 5.7.893 and told me I was on the latest and most up to date version. I thought they must just be dumb or something. However today someone posted on droidforums that they received an official ota update notification on their phone and after taking it they were on 893. Thus user supposedly called moto as well and they told him the same thing. That 893 was in fact the official update that would be released to everyone. Anyways at this point its all kinda speculation as its hard to know if these are truths and if moto/consumers are just confused. Either way if its turns outs that its not the final update and we can't take the real one from.the kernel mismatch, moto will allow u to send.them the phone and they will flash it for you. We did not void our warranties from applying it manually. They assured me of this. So while it might be an inconvenience, we will not be stuck.

I'm with the OP. I travel constantly and the bionic is my sole source of internet (I have the hotspot add on). I too applied the 893 update back in early November because I needed the phone to work.
oddly enough I flashed the radio and system back to stock last night and my phone and lte have both been faster.
If i'm unable to ota the offical update i'm going to call American express and claim a warranty issue that I get data drops and that vzw and moto haven't resolved my issue. Generally they credit me for the purchase price of the phone since I paid full retail for the bionic and i'm going to jump ship for the Samsung.
One of the advantages of the amex gold and platinum cards.

just an fyi:
more and more sources are pointing to 5.7.893 as the OFFICIAL ota update. So all the rumors of what will be the final release, and everyoen trying to get back to stock if they applied this. Or people trying to get to the 5.8.893 or higher versions, etc, seems futile at this point. 2 users buying new bionics report that there phones are on 5.7.893 out of the box. In calling motorola, they confirmed this was the most up to date version. They told me teh same thing as well.
Here's a quote from someone at droid forums:
"
For what its worth, I just bought a bionic 2 days ago and its running 5.7.893 right out of the box. No ota update."
So, if you applied the leak that updated your kernel/radio and your system version is 5.7.893, i think you can rest assured that you are UP TO DATE. You will not receive any OTA cause you are already on the latest version. AND, when the next OTA comes out (ice cream sandwich i believe), you Will be able to take it as your system is good.

Only need free tethering

So I just got my second replacement device. The first was acting goofy. I just dropped the second one and cracked the screen...thank god for the one time free screen fix...which is actually just a replacement device mailed to you. The current (cracked screen one) is modded. I have been finding my device doing random reboots or getting laggy.
So on to my question. Which ROM is as factory as possibly but free tethering enabled?
And your replacement has 4.4.4 and you are rooted?
Ugh...I hadn't even turned it on...it's got 5.1. My last replacement device didn't so I'd completely forgotten about that. As far as I know, I'm completely stuck and cannot root this, correct? Think there is any hope of Verizon getting me one without 5.1?

Correct. I've read reports of people getting 5.1 replacements from Verizon as well. Jcase and beaups are supposedly working on updating Sunshine (bootloader unlocker) to support the Turbo, but there hasn't been any news on that in a while. Also, Sunshine needs root access to work, so it wouldn't work on 5.1 unless they also released a new root method. That's the current state of things as far as I know.
Yeah, people who jumped immediately and got replacements when 5.1 first came out in July (finally!) for the XT1254 could get 4.4.4 still on replacement Droid Turbos. But now by mid September... Seems like Verizon has caught up.
That's why I asked if your new replacement XT1254 shipped to you actually still had 4.4.4 (instead of stock 5.1) and you could flash another ROM.
There still may be 4.4.4 Droid Turbo phones out there in Verizon stores with older inventory. But those phones would be given to people who walk in and buy a new phone -- not to customers ordering a replacement phone, which are shipped from Verizon.
And those new phone buyers may not even realize what they have in their hands. First thing they would do is hit the update button.
All that being said though, if you ever get a hold of a 4.4.4 Turbo, I'll send a stock + root + tethering rom your way.
So wait... there's a huge debate in threads talking about being apart of the soak test or even mentioning it exists.. which one side is boiled down to "breaking the manufacturer rules..." but you can literally post a topic about breaking a carrier's rules and i'ts all good? The world is a confusing, confusing place.
FYI, I got a 4.4.4 replacement device yesterday straight from Motorola. Might be worth a shot if you ever need another replacement. My Verizon one also had 5.1. Kind of funny that the manufacturer had the old firmware and Verizon had the latest. I figured Verizon would do everything in their power to revert it to Gingerbread or something

There was that debate here which was hilariously ridiculous, when the head of Motorola software even mentioned the 5.1 soak tests in his blog. Some guy who claims to be a rep for Motorola -- named Moto Mark or something -- was laughed away after that. Basically his boss can shout it from the rooftops to the world, but users can't? Ha.

No more Blu r1 hd?

Amazon has had it down for some time. is it out of stock? Discounted ?

Thank you so much!
Being replaced by the R1 Plus before xmas, no doubt. Slightly faster, much bigger battery, rounded back gets rid of camera bump. Same 5" screen.
But my battery lasts all day and my case gets rid of the camera bump so I'm glad I got one before they ran out.
wonder if Amazon pulled the R1 HD because they knew about this security flaw:
got an email from amazon about a security issue with the R1 HD.
now the phones been called out explicitly in this article about chinese software that's sending data back to china.
guess we know why the phone is so cheap, and it ain't the ads!

if so, they kept quiet about it for quite a while. got two of this BLU phones, gonna have to decide if I can live with Adups sending my data to china or if I can live with taking the update that will bring back the ads...

Yes, according to consumer reports they were pulled by Amazon, should be back in stock soon as they are all patched with the security fix.
http://www.consumerreports.org/privacy/what-you-need-to-know-about-phones-secretly-sending-data-china/
"An Amazon spokeswoman, Robin Handaly, told us that when the problem was discovered “all impacted phone models were immediately made unavailable for purchase on Amazon.com,” though other Blu phones were still available. “Now that the issue has been resolved, we’re working to make these phones available to Amazon.com customers again.”"
Also the security update is out and fixes the Adups issue, if you had it in the first place, most people that rooted their phone and went to stock "debloated" never had the Adups software installed.
