We dont know yet. We have to wait and see.
I think the OP3T will gain the same dev support as the 3T

Yeah maybe you are right
For me I came to the conclusion that there will of course be some devs, but not as many and not as good since most devs from op3 said they won't change.
Second in my opinion some devs won't change cause in 6 month will launch the OP4 so they probably won't make roms for 6th months.
But that's only my opinion and why did not send it back, but I hope I am wrong and everyone will gain good development.

I think the development won't be the same... For example I saw that someone said that @flar2 isn't going to develop anything for the OnePlus 3T... :/

I did. I bought the OnePlus 3 after being a little disappointed by the Pixel announcement. I was already feeling eh about buying a six month old phone and when I heard about the 3t I decided to return the 3.

I hope so

Ok, I removed my original post, and placed it on oneplus.net...
but since there is respons here as well, this was my message:
Ok, I made up my mind.
Although I love the 3 (coming from opo) and thought I could live without the extra battery, improved front cam and 821, I decided to return the 3. Like the darker colour of the 3t, and hated the idea that my new phone was second best. A little more battery is nice too (but when you hesitate: one day usage is easy on the 3, and dash charging is very, very fast and easy).
I have my rma-papers already, and will return my 3 in a few days.
After that it's waiting for my money, and hopefully I'll be able to order the 3t without again a 4 weeks delivery time
------------------------------
udate: today I sent back my op3... he will be missed!
let's hope all goes well and there will be enough stock 64gb's

I think the idea of not getting 3T because it will have worse dev support is a bit ridiculous. It is not like we need a few dozen or hundred of ROMs for the 3T, but just a few good one is enough. And it's not like if the current 1+3 dev phone is broke that person gonna get a 1+3 and not 3T maybe even newer, who knew? I'm not a dev, but personally speaking I was in search for a new phone for a while, currently using Note 4 w/ 128GB sd card and I find that 32GB is way too small for most usage now a day. Even 64GB is barely enough. Hence I ditch the idea of getting the 1+3, some devs will eventually get to the point where the current storage on the phone isn't enough.

I'm waiting for more reviews of 3T battery to decide to change mi "old" OP3 for it....
I don't want to wait for a long time to get it if I buy OP3T, so
tomorrow I'll look for European stock,and..... Who knows what will I do.....??

The original OnePlus 3 may soon be replaced with higher spec'd variant!!

The rumor appears to be picking up steam and it really does seem plausible... What do you guys think? I wont feel cheated if it comes to fruition. I bought my OP3 the very day it came out back in June, and I've enjoyed every second of it since.
They'll definitely have to announce it, and they have to do so under a different name because the changes do appear to be significant, so hopefully no one will get screwed over buying the original OP3 one week and the next week the OP3+ comes out.
What do you guys think? A 2K LED screen and Snapdragon 821 would be pretty dope. Of course, it probably would need a 4000mah battery and 6 inch screen to accommodate the battery.
It would be a d!ck move by OnePlus for them to do this just a few months after the OnePlus 3 was launched.

And they will not!!!! For the price.... This is the best phone.... With best cutting corners!!!!

If they did do it it would still be a 1080p lcd screen, the thing which would bug everyone though would be if they did release it and it came with Android N out the box lol.
No big deal to me. The op3 is solid and I'd rather wait for the op4. Definitely need the price to remain 399 or less.

Thanks for sharing this news. I was shocked at first when I saw the headline, A premium OnePlus 3+ with SD821 is rumored!!! Hell no!
But rumored phone specs are not in my choice. 6" display is too large. LED > LCD So still the OnePlus 3 is still the best choice for me. handy and powerfull.

This will end the rumors
https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/recent-rumor-of-amoled-to-an-lcd-panel.469519/
I just ordered a OP3 yesterday and then read this news today. It doesn't bother me though. The reason I bought the OP3 is because of the variety of ROMS, MultiROM support, and NetHunter support. All those things will have to start over for this "refresh" version. It will require a new XDA forum. It's a new phone model. They would be doing a huge disservice to try to sell it as OP3.
Also, like someone above said, the 6" screen will be too big. I've had a Nexus 6 for a year and a half and I'm ready for something that comfortably fits in my pocket.
I don't think this will happen. I hope it doesn't.
They just released the OnePlus 3 in o2 stores in the UK about a month ago, so immediately making it outdated with a newer model when they have so much exposure in a retail shop in front of the general population, seems like a very bad idea. It's already better than the competition so no need to change it just yet. Let the holiday period revel in the OnePlus 3 glory!

Exactly the same reason I just ordered a One+3. I really enjoy the Nexus 6, but I want a phone sligtly smaller with a "near stock" android experience.
Looking forward to this phone, hope it ships within a few weeks.
One thing I like about Oneplus is that Carl Pei seems to be pretty straight up. Not many directors of cell phone manufacturers can be seen actively engaging with users on forums either.

If someone came up to me tomorrow and asked if I would swap my SD820/OLED for a SD821/LCD, I would say no.
In 2 or 3 years time, the speed difference between the SD820 & 821 may become important. Until that point, I'd rather being looking at my OLED every day over an LCD. As far as I'm concerned, LCD = The past.
A OnePlus 3 with an LCD screen!?! I'm sorry, Snapdragon 821 or not, it's simply NOT a OnePlus 3 without an AMOLED screen!
Just call it the OnePlus 3.1
Carl pei said yesterday that oneplus will be sticking to optic amolled displays. So I don't see any other displays coming in future

I was thinking about getting the OnePlus 3 this weekend after the disappointment with the Google Pixel pricing, but with all this talk about what the new 'A3010' could be, it would be difficult to place down this amount of money knowing there's potentially an updated model of the OP3 coming out within the next few months. I have been searching for a new phone to replace my LG G4, and the OP3 seems like the perfect phone as it matches quite a specific criteria i had planned out. (SD820, 3GB RAM, AMOLED 1920x1080, 64GB Internal Storage, Fingerprint Reader)
The OP3 is now being sold in O2 stores here in the UK, which offers me much quicker alternative to ordering from the official OnePlus website and being presented with a month-long wait for delivery. But these stores are asking for £346 including a £10 top-up which i will never use, in comparison with the £329 on the website which is already a little beyond my available budget. Personally, i think £346 for a phone which is approaching 5 months old when it was only £309 on release in the UK (Increase of £20 due to Brexit) is difficult to get too enthusiastic about buying. Of course it is a miracle how OnePlus can sell such an astonishing phone at such a low price range, and the reason for the price increase was beyond their control due to how the Pound has fallen following the EU Referendum. However, it is a shame as the phone was already beyond my allocated budget and has increased in price by £20 for online purchases over the past 6 months!
I am hoping at least that if an updated model comes out with the Snapdragon 821 at a similar affordable price bracket (£300-350), then it would make more sense for me to purchase that as i would not be buying a device which is already five months down the line and gradually falling behind competitors such as the Google Pixel. Despite my restricted budget, i would much rather spend a small premium getting an up-to-date phone with the latest processor equipped, than buying the OnePlus 3 for £20 more than it was originally listed for and getting marginally outdated specifications.

OnePlus 3T Informations

Hey I got a link which shows the new OP3 T with a new color : Gunmetal
https://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:QcIugThvkS4J:https://oneplus.net/3T/specs
Will you upgrade ?
Just to get a Snapdragon 821 instead of a 820 ?
I am staying so as the developers
Boefflo tweeted he aint buying another or switching to it.
Nops but the 128gb and the gunmetal is the only thing that attracts me but not worth the hassle lets wait for opo4 now and update lol
For me Gunmetal should be the official color since the OP3 release !
Looks so nice !
Seriously.......OP should not release this if its real......Just give OP3 community breathing room. It would suck to see Fragmented development/support. As much as I want the 128 GB, I'll wait and hope OP4 has 128 GB.
Hopefully the devs stay with the OP3 so I don't have to switch as it seems pointless to me.
If the rear camera is the same as the OnePlus 3 (as the link suggests - Sony IMX 298) then I'm not in a rush to upgrade.
New promo videos are up on YouTube for the new oneplus 3T and the oxygen os.

According to one of user in reddit who got reply from oneplus "Thank you for reaching OnePlus, Dan. No, we are not going to dicontinued the product however we are still waiting for the update from our Main Headquarters as to when it will be back in stock. What we can suggest is, please continue to stay tuned to our forums or website from time to time."
Btw op3 is still available in India and some European countries
http://www.xda-developers.com/exclu...at-it-means-for-the-future-of-your-oneplus-3/
"However, the OnePlus 3Tâ??s battery is?*not physically bigger, rather it went through a safe voltage change from 4.35 volts to 4.4 volts?*(which explains the 13% increase in mAh, clever huh?)."
The whole thing appears to be mostly a non-issue to me........unless 16MP selfies is what gets you excited!! In that case you better pre-order that OP3T right away........and maybe get your hair done.

Can't seem to understand why oneplus would do this
I just don't get it. Is the original OP3 getting phased out? I see little reason why would they want to keep the original..
I just got the OP3 on Saturday. I am still with the return window.. Prolly gonna keep it. The $40 bucks ok, but you're looking to have this phone in December..
I'm relieved. It's a non issue the specs aren't worth the extra money and the devs already have our OP3 anyway can't see many of them changing. I'll bet the source will be easily modified to provide roms for both phones too.
Sent from my ONEPLUS A3003 using Tapatalk
@ShadowRii That's the only thing making sense and one reason we won't see a price drop of the OP3.
I can't see how they could satisfy the demand for both phones.
With the new pricing of the OP3T they nearly "killed" the demand for the OP3.
So they switch a "currently out of stock cause of missing parts" to "currently out of stock due to high demand".
Who ever had this idea at OnePlus should get a bonus.
Good work
@ephumuris
Not worth? Nearly 10 % faster CPU, 13% bigger battery, better front camera for 10% higher price?
If somebody already owns an OP3, I'm with you but if you should decide between those two now... Would be a no brained for me.
Imho this pricing sounds fair
Well I'm officially out. Some amazing hardware specs, completely and UTTERLY let down by its extremely limited use outside of a few northern hemisphere countries.
Australian's who want fast 4G data will not buy this one. I'm one of them.
Bravo, Oneplus.

Who's actually happy?

I see a lot of negativity towards OnePlus on here. I'm a first time OnePlus owner and I just want to say I'm really happy with my OP3, I paid £330 for it I think from o2 in the UK.
I'm happy with the premium feeling phone for the price I nearly waited for the Pixel then saw the price...
I'm not bothered at all about the OP3T as when I get the OP4 in 5 months time all the 3T fans will be crying too.
I'm happy with the speed we got a 7.0 CB. I've not spotted any bugs that affect my use yet just wondering if anyone else has? It's quick and smooth for me so far!
So come on who else is happy!?

^this. the OP3 is an excellent phone. And i'm more than happy with it, i used to have an LG G3, and an LG G4, it was good phones, but not as good as the OP3.
Quite happy with OP3. I'm coming from a 5 year old Galaxy S3. I hope the OP3 will last as long (as I don't upgrade often), but only time will tell.
I absolutely love this phone and totally agree with your post. Nice to see some positivity!
same here ! happy totally ! it's a lovely phone for the price and plus no issues as such. people do expect a lot and as the saying goes "expectations hurt". people want more for less and the wanting never stops ! humans after all
OP3 is a great device. no matter 3T has come around and devices will keep coming . Staying content with what we have is the best mentality .
Cheers to this device manufacturers and the people who own it and are happy. ?
Totally happy Awesome device. Just updated to official Nougat. Everything runs great.
Just wanted to add some positivity here too. Love this phone. Got it when it first came out and still enjoying the hell out of it. Great to see so many devs on board and we are spoiled with the amount of roms to choose from.
I like this thread. Gratitude and appreciation not found too often online, or anywhere for that matter, these days.
Apart from the average front camera quality and not that good battery life (i am a heavy gamer, 2-3 hours MC5 in a day), i am totally happy with the device. Did not feel any upgrade over OnePlus One apart from an extra sim slot, lol.
Satisfied, yes. But
Satisfied, yes. But since I bought OP3 in late October when I saw OP3T I said, because they lied to me. It was enough to say fine from the beginning: we will put 2 Smartphon different in six months, you should know this

Well from where i see it, they saw a chance to upgrade because their inventory was already depleted and they had to order new S820 chips anyways, so they might opted for S821 instead. If you are not fond of unlocking bootloader, rooting, flashing roms/kernels, i would recommend to switch to 3T. But the OP3 has good and a dedicated dev community already, By the time 3T gets it, we may already see OP4 news. So not much of a difference imho. The only tempting thing is the 128GB storage option which i have made my peace with now, lol.
Im happy with the op3 but the move of oneplus for the 3t is horrible i have to pay 449 euro beacause im in switzerland and have to wait 4 months to have the possibility of buying it

I love the phone, probably my favourite and I'm coming from a 6P. The company however is a bit unconventional to say the least, and they are extremely poor at communicating i.e. flagship out of stock for weeks, MIA without explanation then, boom out of the blue comes the +£70 updated version.

Help me decide: Used 3T or new 5?

Hi folks,
I can get a good/mint condition 64 GB 3T for ~$360-375. Or I can buy a new 5 for $479 presumably plus tax so around $512 actually.
I'm on the fence as to which way to go. Coming from an LG G3 so either OnePlus would feel modern and snappy. I'm a bit concerned by reports of the jelly effect on the 5, but I like the idea of a new phone complete with warranty I can send back if I don't like it. OTOH, I like the idea of saving $150 on my phone upgrade. Resale value on the 3T might go down over the next year more than the 5, though, somewhat offsetting this. And I've heard there are some issues with Light Flow (LED notifications) on the 3T... this worries me, as I use Light Flow extensively.
FWIW I use AT&T as my carrier.
I'd be grateful for any thoughts here to help me decide one way or the other.
Thanks!
That's a easy choice, Get the oneplus 5 but if you have the jelly effect just get your refund and get a mint conditon oneplus 3t.
It's a good idea. Was just wondering if there was any other reason to go with 3T instead, to add to the cost savings idea.
Sent from my LG-D851 using Tapatalk
I'd snag the 3T if I were you; I've had the 3 since it came out and after reading the issues with the 5 (which seem to come aplenty), I went with the 3T.
Which issues, specifically, other than jelly scrolling (which might not bug me even if I see it)?
Sent from my LG-D851 using Tapatalk
- Chipped / damaged camera lenses
- Dual camera lenses not properly functioning or not at all
- Missing paint from the side of the lenses / phone
Those are some that come off from the top of my head.
Also, the 911 bug. Just a software issue, and a fix has been pushed OTA. But now some folks are complaining the fix is causing overheating.

Yeah, I heard about this. Shocking that it could occur, but glad it was fixed quickly. I hadn't heard about overheating issues. Will investigate. Apparently other phone models from various makers have elements of the 911 bug too. Scary.

here is my 2 cents, if you have the opportunity to buy a mint 3t 128gb for 360 do it.
You won't want to deal with paying for shipping or even deal with OPO customer care when and if u have to return ur opo5
well, I was having OP3 64GB, ordered OP5 128GB with 8GB of RAM recently. The OP5 is definitely faster while switching apps, home button reaction etc. Battery was also great, I was surprised. Simply, there is not faster phone on market.
But I sent it back anyway because of poor (to my taste) video recording. EIS doesnt do such a great job as OIS and it did not work in 1080p60 if I remember right (maybe it does work now after SW update). For this very reason I sent it back and got brand new OP3T 64GB for $375 instead ) And am very happy now I would not change back to OP5 now.
Good luck with your choice
It is a tough choice. Was also considering HTC U11 and LG V20 but specific issues made me look at OnePlus more strongly.
Sent from my LG-D851 using Tapatalk
Get the 3T and save the money for a future 5T, where all the bugs will be solved with the experience they got
Edit... I was also looking for the V20 when I decided for the 3T. LG is terrible with updates and the 2 screens only worked with the original LG framework so, if someday you think about going AOSP, I don't believe it will be working... Just my 2 cents though
If the choice is simply between the 3T and 5, I would suggest going with 3T.
Currently, I'm thinking to change my 3T to G6 or V20 due to both of LG's flagship had a quad DAC. Mind you, the audio output from the 3T is just worse, I cannot stand to listen to a song from Spotify Premium (extreme quality settings, headphone Audio Technica M50x or IEM ATK-CKS550iS) for more than 20 minutes.

Right, the V20 doesn't have a multicolor LED, and the second screen has limited support for customizing the way I would want to use it, so I sort of bailed. The U11 does look like a nice phone, but not sure it is worth a $200 premium over the OP5 for example or a $300 premium over the 3T. Further the U11 doesn't exactly have band 17, though presumably it's OK on band 12 which has band 17 parity in a weird way for ATT. What I'd like is to drive all three phones for a while and then make my decision...
Mint 3T -64GB from reputable sellers on Swappa is over $400. Not sure if I want to go with a first time seller (though, I was a first time seller, once). Good condition goes in the $350-375 range, at the moment. Hmmm...

The U11 looks like such a nice phone. I've been a loyal HTC fan for so long, the 3T is actually my first non-HTC smartphone, going back to Windows Mobile days!
But in addition to the price, the absence of the headphone jack just was a deal breaker for me. Folks keep saying that it's due to the waterproofing, but that's nonsense. Samsung, LG (and I believe Sony as well) achieve waterproof IP ratings with headphone jacks, plus MicroSD slots. And the charge slot doesn't seem much different, in terms of waterproofing. It more seems to me that manufacturers just want to utilize the space (by removing the headphone jack), or save a dollar or 2 on having to waterproof the headphone jack. And in the process force "progress" that customers don't actually want; but make them "think" they want it.
Okay, sorry for the rant. Maybe not even one of the issues you were referring to. But just my own thoughts on the topic.
Thanks all.
I had lots of hesitation points on the 5 so I decided to buy a 3T for now. Got a mint one (64Gb) for $370 on swappa a few minutes ago. I will play with it for a month or two while keeping my eye on the developments on the 5 and other phones of interest. Can always trade up later if I feel like it.
Thanks for all your help.

U could hav pick the 5, 3t update support will soon slows down while the 5 is being prioritized. 911 issue and 4k stabilization is already fixed with the latest update.

We're on xda bro. We don't rely on OnePlus for support
Thanks. Frankly I'm waiting to see if the 5 evolves at all. 5T etc. Meanwhile will have fun with a 3T. [emoji3]

Jelly effect is a deal breaker (at least, for me). I ordered a OnePlus 5 at launch, go it for 2 days, send it back to refund, and purchased a OnePlus 3T yesterday.
Yes, I could have wait for the 5T (tho, we are not even sure about it); if we always wait, we never buy.
Plus, OnePlus 3T still has an awesome community (with Boeffla and Dorimanx for example, I know my device will have kernel update for a looooong time) and some awesome specs, even for 2017.
So yeah @Frankenscript, I think you made a great choice

Sanity Check

My beloved rooted Nexus 5 is now well past its best before date and on searching a replacement device am suffering sticker price shock for ' flagship' phones
Am considering the Essential PH1 considering its specs vs price point.
Take few photos, with performance as a 'Phone' - particularly battery life - a higher priority than camera
Given the litany of 'issues' reported and the stability of its manufacturer am I losing my mind seriously considering Essential ?
Should I just suck it up and spend the bucks (One+ 6 would be my current choice)
Any insight &/or suggestions from former N5 users would welcome
TIA
Maybe the Poco Phone?
Ich switched eine years ago from the n5 to op3 never regret it but my next phone won't be a one plus.

Poco not on my shortlist - apparently no B4 band (needed in Canada for LTE) . Thanks for suggestion tho.
Would you share why you've ruled out the One Plus ?
Of course. It's because they are getting damn expensive and more like the "hip and fancy" brands. I mean they have some benefits like the really good software and update support. But they started with under 300 € I think and now the OnePlus 6t will cost nearly 600€. Also the design ...the glass and the notch, it's horrible in my opinion.
If you are willing to pay that much the one plus is a good choice but if you can wait a half year you can buy the half year old Samsung phones. They get much cheaper in some time. The OnePlus won't. And if you root anyway you can flash AOSP on the Samsung. The worst thing is the bloatware on this devices.

Thank you for sharing ... which brings me full circle ... premium specs, timely software updates, no bloatware, and tolerable price point = Essential as the replacement for my N5 OR Am I just dreaming and going to be disappointed

I'm going through the same dilemma. All the phones I looked at (Oneplus 6, Moto C, etc) had their own problems! So for the moment I'm staying with my rooted N5 running lineageos 14.1 (Nougat). Seems the best and most secure option for now.....

i still have my nexus 5 and its working, but the battery life its so bad, i moved to the pocophone f1 at less than 400 dollars with almost all flagship specs its the nexus phone that we wanted cheap, full flagship features, and price performance that no phone offers currently.
Another alternative if you dont like the pocophone f1, its the Nokia 8 (2017), the only disadvantage of that you cant unlock the bootloader its pretty cheap at less than 400 dollars, the nexus pricing, premium performance and features.

As mentioned above Poco won't work for me :crying: as am in Canada and Poco does not support Band B to enable LTE.
Nokia's showing as Not Available on Amazon.ca Unlockable boot loader might be an issue Thanks for the suggestion Can you reference source of < $400 pricing ?
Not sure how long my Nexus will survive with current hardware issue ( sound only when it feels like it and doesn't feel like it more often than not).
Not hearing anyone saying they grabbed Essential ... maybe answering my question

I would recommend the zuk z2. Perfect replacement for my N5
I switched to a Moto X4 just a few weeks back from my trusty old Nexus 5. It's not a big upgrade, in a lot of ways, but you also don't lose anything you might with comparable phones (like a headphone jack).
As said, it's by no means a flagship device, but so far I'm happy with it, especially considering the 180€ price tag.

Have you considered self repairing? They N5 is easy to take apart and replacement parts are cheap on Ebay.
Google your sound problem. Sounds like a possible loose connection somewhere. May just need to disconnect and reconnect that part. That plus a new battery for $6 may give you a 'new' nexus 5.

I'm in my last days with my beloved N5! It is the best Smartphone, I've ever owned - it has been nearly 5 years. I replaced the battery a year ago with an (allegedly) original battery. Since a few months the battery life is worsening day by day. I'm running Lineage 14.1, which runs smooth and stable. Since a few days, the device turns itself off every now and then. I guess it's a hardware problem; I've openened it and tried to reattach every connection, without success.
I will be going for a Pixel 3 because...
- It seems to be THE ONLY flagship usable with one hand
- The most annoying thing with the N5 was the Camera in any lower light condition. Hence I opt for a top-notch-camera
- A big part of the good experience I had with the N5 was due to the great developer community. Software-wise I'm still (almost) up to date! I'm hoping that the Pixel 3 will last for at least 5 years... All the other phones with a strong community are just too large for me (Xiaomi, OnePlus, Moto G6...)
- It is reasonably easy to take apart; I will be able to replace the battery myself and in a few years the replacement displays wont cost a fortune anymore.
I know that the Pixel 3 is overprized, but considering, that the smartphone is the object I use the most in my life, I came to the conclusion, that i want to spend that money. And if I compare myself to some friends, who might not spend 900$ on a phone, but then buy a new 300-400$ Phone every 2 years, I will probably still pay less after all...
But again: I would go for a Xiaomi/Poco/OnePlus IF THEY WOULD STOP MAKING TABLETS AND START MAKING PHONES AGAIN!

I bought it and it is the perfect replacement! Same size, beast of a performance and also the best custom ROM development! It has about 8 Pie ROMs and has camera2api! I really love this device!

Have you considered sony xz2 compact? It is still a compact phone, not so recent I know, but with reasonable price...
Otherwise there is Xiaomi mi A2 lite, with Android One, and at 200$ I think it could be a good investment. Also it has great support.
I hope I'm in time for the suggestions!

Thanks, but you're too late
I'll get the Pixel 3 tomorrow. The XZ2 is nice, although a bit chunky. Sad they didn't bring out a xz3 compact together with the xz3...
The Mi A2 Lite is ok, but no flagship phone... The problem with the affordable brands is, that they essentially all design phones for the Asian market, where for many people the phone is at the same time their Computer and TV and hence bigger is better...
i got myself a Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite about a week ago because my nexus 5 really started to show its age after 4+ years, do any of you guys have this device/plan to get it?
if so let me know because i'm trying to get a community together for this device, it already has a TWRP port, and i started my bootloader unlock process (it told me i had to wait 15 days and it feels like forever lol)
i also posted a request in the new device request thread
hopefully we'll get our own place soon hehe
