Who's actually happy? - OnePlus 3 Guides, News, & Discussion

I see a lot of negativity towards OnePlus on here. I'm a first time OnePlus owner and I just want to say I'm really happy with my OP3, I paid £330 for it I think from o2 in the UK.
I'm happy with the premium feeling phone for the price I nearly waited for the Pixel then saw the price...
I'm not bothered at all about the OP3T as when I get the OP4 in 5 months time all the 3T fans will be crying too.
I'm happy with the speed we got a 7.0 CB. I've not spotted any bugs that affect my use yet just wondering if anyone else has? It's quick and smooth for me so far!
So come on who else is happy!?

Most people are probably happy with this phone, but happy people don't go around on online forums talking about how happy they are. Unhappy people are usually a vocal minority

Me too exact same story of yours but coming from 6p lol i really like this device

I was also tempted by a 2nd hand 6P. It was between that. The Pixel and the OP3!

Really happy with Oneplus and the OP3! I don't know why so many people people are complaining.

You're definitely right for the minority moaning here there are probably a hundred more happy people XDA is a special group of people. Sometimes a little too "special" and entitled ha ha.

^this. the OP3 is an excellent phone. And i'm more than happy with it, i used to have an LG G3, and an LG G4, it was good phones, but not as good as the OP3.

Quite happy with OP3. I'm coming from a 5 year old Galaxy S3. I hope the OP3 will last as long (as I don't upgrade often), but only time will tell.

I absolutely love this phone and totally agree with your post. Nice to see some positivity!

same here ! happy totally ! it's a lovely phone for the price and plus no issues as such. people do expect a lot and as the saying goes "expectations hurt". people want more for less and the wanting never stops ! humans after all
OP3 is a great device. no matter 3T has come around and devices will keep coming . Staying content with what we have is the best mentality .
Cheers to this device manufacturers and the people who own it and are happy. ?

Totally happy Awesome device. Just updated to official Nougat. Everything runs great.

Just wanted to add some positivity here too. Love this phone. Got it when it first came out and still enjoying the hell out of it. Great to see so many devs on board and we are spoiled with the amount of roms to choose from.
I like this thread. Gratitude and appreciation not found too often online, or anywhere for that matter, these days.

Apart from the average front camera quality and not that good battery life (i am a heavy gamer, 2-3 hours MC5 in a day), i am totally happy with the device. Did not feel any upgrade over OnePlus One apart from an extra sim slot, lol.

Satisfied, yes. But
Satisfied, yes. But since I bought OP3 in late October when I saw OP3T I said, because they lied to me. It was enough to say fine from the beginning: we will put 2 Smartphon different in six months, you should know this

I love the Op3, I want the T though, so need to sell my OP3 first. \o>

Well from where i see it, they saw a chance to upgrade because their inventory was already depleted and they had to order new S820 chips anyways, so they might opted for S821 instead. If you are not fond of unlocking bootloader, rooting, flashing roms/kernels, i would recommend to switch to 3T. But the OP3 has good and a dedicated dev community already, By the time 3T gets it, we may already see OP4 news. So not much of a difference imho. The only tempting thing is the 128GB storage option which i have made my peace with now, lol.

Im happy with the op3 but the move of oneplus for the 3t is horrible i have to pay 449 euro beacause im in switzerland and have to wait 4 months to have the possibility of buying it

Battery life is horrible for me no matter which rom even tho standby drain like a **** when wifi turned on ?

Have you thought about 3rd party apps may cause the drain? I'm actully testing the standby drain while using wi-fi and its a bit more than 1% per hour. Pretty awesome

I love the phone, probably my favourite and I'm coming from a 6P. The company however is a bit unconventional to say the least, and they are extremely poor at communicating i.e. flagship out of stock for weeks, MIA without explanation then, boom out of the blue comes the +£70 updated version.

OP3 compared to OPO

Is it worth the upgrade at this point, having bought the OPO 2 years ago
Sent from my A0001
Beside the 100mAh of missing battery the 3 is of course better in every aspect. But if you are happy with your one dont upgrade. If you arent simply do it.
Thanks very much, I'll see if I can get one when I get home!

Even then, 100mAh won't matter considering the gains in efficiency of the 820's 14nm versus the 28nm of the 801. The DDR4 as well. In fact I'd expect it to generally have better battery life than the OPO for just those two reason alone.
I was very pleased with my OPO, however a family member broke their stupid cheap tracfone LG device running antique version of android, so to help them out, I sold them my OPO 64gb and ordered the new Oneplus 3, I couldn't be more pleased with the outcome. The new phone is great, and they are extremely happy with my old OPO.
The only rough part has been all the tutoring they have needed to fully benefit from the more modern android OS.
This will be easier for me moving forward however, as I have installed CM13 on both phones, so it will be easy for me to guide them in their questions that will inevitably come along.
Yes, it is absolutely worth upgrading. I hate the term flagship killer, and no the OnePlus 3 isn't one, it's a flagship in its own right.

I love my OPO but my new OP3 is better in every aspect, I never felt the need to upgrade to OPX or OP2 until the OP3 arrived. My wife still has her OPO and mine it's in the drawer as a backup phone just in case.

I upgraded from OPO to OP3 last week and it's really worth it.
Apart from a few wifi issues I'm facing, the phone is awesome. Overall much faster and everything is better - performance, camera, etc. If you're looking for a new phone then go for it.
That being said, I wasn't really facing any issues with my OPO. It was super smooth and still gave decent battery life.
Can anyone please tell me how better is the camera performance on op3 compared to opo. I'm planning to buy & I've opo for 1.5 years.

why I'm leaving OP3

So let's starts this off by saying that one plus killed it this year with this phone. One of my favlrity phone, i preffer over the nexus 6p
But unfortunately I'm going to go back to the s7edge. So I switched over to the one plus 3 due to root limitations and also wanted to walk away from touchwiz. I love the one plus 3 don't get me wrong but I guess there was something I was missing with the s7edge I mean. Tbh phones are in a stage where root is not really that valuable as it was about a year or two ago.
Ex. Samsung themes, allows you to change quick, overcloking.. umm not needed in neither device the one plus or s7edge (snapdragon 820). Phones are too advance for that need. I mean yes there is some good stuff still about rooting like exposed etc. But unless your a die hard cmte guy I wouldn't buy a device based on just root. Also I missed water resistance and Samsung pay. I know Samsung has a lot of gimmicks but by far the best mobile payment... and let's not forget that Damm display.. I never really appreciated until I put booth phone next to each other. The one plus 3 looks a bit washed out. I think is because the high blues in the display calibration. And srgb looks a bit too warm.
If you have anything to say please feel free!! as I want to know if anyone feels like me, or had the same experience.
I love the one plus comunity.
Cool story bro. Here's a cookie for your troubles.
All the best....
Well, if i was sitting in pile of money i could too do decisions like that but because im not im "stuck" with my awesome phone. After all, it is just el-cheapo top of the line phone.
Is this thread a Samsung ad?
Go ahead mate..
Aside all hate, I'd probably keep both phones if I have tonnes of money! I have used both phones. Now I do own OP3. Camera wise, OP3 is nowhere near the S7E. Performance wise.. oh comon... OP3 OP3 OP3!!!!!!!!!! I'd prefer Overall performance(lag free) over camera. I know the importance of lag free experience because I lived more than 1 year with LG G3.
S7E is one of the best phones for sure. So does the OnePlus 3!!!

I agree with you and yes I'll be keeping booth phones. This is not a Samsung add as clearly stated on the post one plus the 3 is beast phone you definitely get a lot more for your money than samsung. I'm simply sharing my experience. And idk how money came along in this. But okay.
I have absolutely nothing negative to say about the one plus.

I do believe in the famous slogan for one plus. "The flagship killer" and I'm stuck in money? Well I'm not my s7edge was purchased when my girlfriend got her s7 I went ahead and got the s7edge as it was buy one get one free and I only paid the difference between the s7 and the edge.
Ok bro bye.. Hav fun with ****sung samdung Shamesung.. While we get aosp and quick android N.. You will be busy trolling with Lagwiz..
Loosing root, custom recovey, unlocked bootloader and custom kernels and ROMs is not worth it, u r going to have issues with the OS on any Android rom, but with theses it's easy to go back or clean flash and restore backups, so all of that is worthing it to keep a working phone

Yup..the S7 edge is a really good phone.
Anyway, if you don't mind to lose the various Custom ROM and mods..it's ok!
But that's the truth..a very powerful Hardware with only Sammy ROMs.
I bought op3 not only for the Hardware, but for it's capability to be more developed..there are many ROMs, for now just AOSP and one MIUI..but i think that there will be Ubuntu Touch too, Flyme OS and many other stuff.
But don't worry.. yours is a good choice!
I bought only samsung phones in the past, and my last sammy phone was the edge plus..a really good phone, but i hate to spend so much for a Phone thaf offers a powerful Hardware like OP3 (op3, 2gb RAM more).
Sorry for my bad English, I'm Italian
S7edge is very good phone, for end user who doesnt like to tinker. And simply use their phone as it is, with all goods and bads
it just doesn't worth it's price. Well, it will, once it drop by $100-200
I' don't understand half of this People as I clearly stated the one plus is an extremely good phone and all I said was based on my opinion. Everyone has their own opinions. I still have my one plus so when ever I do want to try something I can just pop in a sim. I'm not saying the s7 is better. In every aspect but it's a better display and Samsung pay which are the only two benefit that I mentioned. I love the one plus. But w.e people get upset if someone shares their opinion this is comunity. If I wanted to bash the one plus three which in no mean I do. I would bring up FACTUAL imformation stating where it falls behind the s7edge which I dint. Because I don't believe it does. It's a great device for its price and to develope. I even liked it more than nexus 6p. Which I had previously

The original OnePlus 3 may soon be replaced with higher spec'd variant!!

The rumor appears to be picking up steam and it really does seem plausible... What do you guys think? I wont feel cheated if it comes to fruition. I bought my OP3 the very day it came out back in June, and I've enjoyed every second of it since.
They'll definitely have to announce it, and they have to do so under a different name because the changes do appear to be significant, so hopefully no one will get screwed over buying the original OP3 one week and the next week the OP3+ comes out.
What do you guys think? A 2K LED screen and Snapdragon 821 would be pretty dope. Of course, it probably would need a 4000mah battery and 6 inch screen to accommodate the battery.
It would be a d!ck move by OnePlus for them to do this just a few months after the OnePlus 3 was launched.

Thanks for sharing this news. I was shocked at first when I saw the headline, A premium OnePlus 3+ with SD821 is rumored!!! Hell no!
But rumored phone specs are not in my choice. 6" display is too large. LED > LCD So still the OnePlus 3 is still the best choice for me. handy and powerfull.

I just ordered a OP3 yesterday and then read this news today. It doesn't bother me though. The reason I bought the OP3 is because of the variety of ROMS, MultiROM support, and NetHunter support. All those things will have to start over for this "refresh" version. It will require a new XDA forum. It's a new phone model. They would be doing a huge disservice to try to sell it as OP3.
Also, like someone above said, the 6" screen will be too big. I've had a Nexus 6 for a year and a half and I'm ready for something that comfortably fits in my pocket.
I don't think this will happen. I hope it doesn't.
They just released the OnePlus 3 in o2 stores in the UK about a month ago, so immediately making it outdated with a newer model when they have so much exposure in a retail shop in front of the general population, seems like a very bad idea. It's already better than the competition so no need to change it just yet. Let the holiday period revel in the OnePlus 3 glory!

Exactly the same reason I just ordered a One+3. I really enjoy the Nexus 6, but I want a phone sligtly smaller with a "near stock" android experience.
Looking forward to this phone, hope it ships within a few weeks.
One thing I like about Oneplus is that Carl Pei seems to be pretty straight up. Not many directors of cell phone manufacturers can be seen actively engaging with users on forums either.

If someone came up to me tomorrow and asked if I would swap my SD820/OLED for a SD821/LCD, I would say no.
In 2 or 3 years time, the speed difference between the SD820 & 821 may become important. Until that point, I'd rather being looking at my OLED every day over an LCD. As far as I'm concerned, LCD = The past.
A OnePlus 3 with an LCD screen!?! I'm sorry, Snapdragon 821 or not, it's simply NOT a OnePlus 3 without an AMOLED screen!
Just call it the OnePlus 3.1
Carl pei said yesterday that oneplus will be sticking to optic amolled displays. So I don't see any other displays coming in future

I was thinking about getting the OnePlus 3 this weekend after the disappointment with the Google Pixel pricing, but with all this talk about what the new 'A3010' could be, it would be difficult to place down this amount of money knowing there's potentially an updated model of the OP3 coming out within the next few months. I have been searching for a new phone to replace my LG G4, and the OP3 seems like the perfect phone as it matches quite a specific criteria i had planned out. (SD820, 3GB RAM, AMOLED 1920x1080, 64GB Internal Storage, Fingerprint Reader)
The OP3 is now being sold in O2 stores here in the UK, which offers me much quicker alternative to ordering from the official OnePlus website and being presented with a month-long wait for delivery. But these stores are asking for £346 including a £10 top-up which i will never use, in comparison with the £329 on the website which is already a little beyond my available budget. Personally, i think £346 for a phone which is approaching 5 months old when it was only £309 on release in the UK (Increase of £20 due to Brexit) is difficult to get too enthusiastic about buying. Of course it is a miracle how OnePlus can sell such an astonishing phone at such a low price range, and the reason for the price increase was beyond their control due to how the Pound has fallen following the EU Referendum. However, it is a shame as the phone was already beyond my allocated budget and has increased in price by £20 for online purchases over the past 6 months!
I am hoping at least that if an updated model comes out with the Snapdragon 821 at a similar affordable price bracket (£300-350), then it would make more sense for me to purchase that as i would not be buying a device which is already five months down the line and gradually falling behind competitors such as the Google Pixel. Despite my restricted budget, i would much rather spend a small premium getting an up-to-date phone with the latest processor equipped, than buying the OnePlus 3 for £20 more than it was originally listed for and getting marginally outdated specifications.

should i buy a one plus 3t? or wait for 5?

are you guys enjoying the 3t? worth every penny? will u upgrade to the next one plus this year? is it worth waiting?
As long as they continue to update the 3t the way they are, I'll be keeping mine for a while. Phone works great, looks great and I'm experiencing great battery life on the stock rom
I'm simply in love with mine. It has AMOLED display, hardware that secures future, good camera.
This can be told about many phones, but... Do they have so frequent software updates? Beta twice a month! Actually, developers are listening to people's opinions (obviously can't listen to everyone).
From what I've seen, many people who changed their phones from s7e/nexus to OP3T are really content with it.
Battery life is another great thing, it easily goes through a day and charges so quickly!
If you don't need a new phone urgently, you might as well wait for the next OnePlus phone. As much as we don't want to face it, OnePlus is likely going to put development for the 3/3T on the back-burner once the next generation of phones are released (looking at you, OP2). That said, the OP3/T is certainly an excellent device and worth its current price.
yeah its a killer phone. id get one. just did in fact.

I upgraded from the S7 edge to the 3t (like 2weeks ago) and I love this phone. Way ahead of the game, not a single particle of lag. That said, I will probably upgrade once the 5 comes out; as I love having the latest tech, but yeah. Getting this phone right now was worth it for me.

Is that whats happened to oneplus 1 and 2?
Uhm, no idea.
I justified spending 400+ EUR on the 3T, because I thought at the time that I'm going to keep it for at least two years. And now I'm tempted to upgrade to the 5, because fsck yeah, this phone is awesome, can't wait for the next model. I'll just give this to someone in the family.
I looked to upgrade to something else but seriously - there's nothing else out there. It's at the top of it's game. Get it now, or if not in hurry for a few months. Wait.

There is a rumor on OP 5 that it has a ceramic/glass back. Well if you don't wanna break it then...

I still love the block type metal of the OP 3T so it is my ideal choice

It's all just rumor at this point. No announcement yet. And manufacturers usually don't tip their hand too early. Doing so would not only potentially damage the sales of the current device, but also may give their competition an edge.
I've seen some stories around that state that Samsung is buying up all the Snapdragon 835 supply. And being the Android market juggernaut, most (all?) other manufacturers are going to have to wait to get the 835. This alone may cause OnePlus to delay a launch.
The OP3T is amazing and I think OP5 will be even more. If you aren't in a hurry, would be nice to wait.
OP3t is a great device. Even if OP stops updates at nougat, the dev support will continue.
Look at the OPO, it has perfect nougat ROMs that are current. The OP3t will continue on with devs, cause it's a solid built device (as was the OPO). The OP2 had no nfc and the crap 810 cpu, and still solid on dev support.

Honestly, Samsung has the best screens any phone manufacturer can have. Comparing both, I noticed that the colors looked better on the S7 edge, and that the S7's screen gets brighter. Are those deal breakers? Absolutely not. The screen is great and 1440 p is not different compared to 1080p .
It'll definitely take the screen downgrade for a absolutely lagfree device. It's been almost 2 weeks and not a single app, or animation has lagged. Also battery life is great. Damn I still feel like I'm not using this device to its full capabilities lol
With how things are going, they seem to have found the hardware they really love, so they're developing their software now. I think they want to love their software as much as their hardware, so they may be sticking with the 3t. Look how many special editions are coming out, they got an otterbox deal and they acrually ship on time now.

I currently have a Note 5 and am looking to pick up another device for some additional R00T fun. My ONLY concern is the 1080p screen. I know this sounds absurd but we've been spoiled with 1440p. Can you really actually see a noticeable difference?

If you want to use some vr hardware, then yes, 4k is better. Otherwise 1080p is faster to drive, and uses less power. So it's a trade-off.
I would get it definitely. Well i already did actually. Great phone I love it definitely worth the money and had a great supporting dev community. And if your worried about oneplus stopping updates it's no big deal cause there a lots of custom roms for this phone and there is a great community surrounding it.

Help me decide: Used 3T or new 5?

Hi folks,
I can get a good/mint condition 64 GB 3T for ~$360-375. Or I can buy a new 5 for $479 presumably plus tax so around $512 actually.
I'm on the fence as to which way to go. Coming from an LG G3 so either OnePlus would feel modern and snappy. I'm a bit concerned by reports of the jelly effect on the 5, but I like the idea of a new phone complete with warranty I can send back if I don't like it. OTOH, I like the idea of saving $150 on my phone upgrade. Resale value on the 3T might go down over the next year more than the 5, though, somewhat offsetting this. And I've heard there are some issues with Light Flow (LED notifications) on the 3T... this worries me, as I use Light Flow extensively.
FWIW I use AT&T as my carrier.
I'd be grateful for any thoughts here to help me decide one way or the other.
Thanks!
That's a easy choice, Get the oneplus 5 but if you have the jelly effect just get your refund and get a mint conditon oneplus 3t.
It's a good idea. Was just wondering if there was any other reason to go with 3T instead, to add to the cost savings idea.

I'd snag the 3T if I were you; I've had the 3 since it came out and after reading the issues with the 5 (which seem to come aplenty), I went with the 3T.
Which issues, specifically, other than jelly scrolling (which might not bug me even if I see it)?

- Chipped / damaged camera lenses
- Dual camera lenses not properly functioning or not at all
- Missing paint from the side of the lenses / phone
Those are some that come off from the top of my head.
Also, the 911 bug. Just a software issue, and a fix has been pushed OTA. But now some folks are complaining the fix is causing overheating.

Yeah, I heard about this. Shocking that it could occur, but glad it was fixed quickly. I hadn't heard about overheating issues. Will investigate. Apparently other phone models from various makers have elements of the 911 bug too. Scary.

here is my 2 cents, if you have the opportunity to buy a mint 3t 128gb for 360 do it.
You won't want to deal with paying for shipping or even deal with OPO customer care when and if u have to return ur opo5
well, I was having OP3 64GB, ordered OP5 128GB with 8GB of RAM recently. The OP5 is definitely faster while switching apps, home button reaction etc. Battery was also great, I was surprised. Simply, there is not faster phone on market.
But I sent it back anyway because of poor (to my taste) video recording. EIS doesnt do such a great job as OIS and it did not work in 1080p60 if I remember right (maybe it does work now after SW update). For this very reason I sent it back and got brand new OP3T 64GB for $375 instead ) And am very happy now I would not change back to OP5 now.
Good luck with your choice
It is a tough choice. Was also considering HTC U11 and LG V20 but specific issues made me look at OnePlus more strongly.

Get the 3T and save the money for a future 5T, where all the bugs will be solved with the experience they got
Edit... I was also looking for the V20 when I decided for the 3T. LG is terrible with updates and the 2 screens only worked with the original LG framework so, if someday you think about going AOSP, I don't believe it will be working... Just my 2 cents though
If the choice is simply between the 3T and 5, I would suggest going with 3T.
Currently, I'm thinking to change my 3T to G6 or V20 due to both of LG's flagship had a quad DAC. Mind you, the audio output from the 3T is just worse, I cannot stand to listen to a song from Spotify Premium (extreme quality settings, headphone Audio Technica M50x or IEM ATK-CKS550iS) for more than 20 minutes.

Right, the V20 doesn't have a multicolor LED, and the second screen has limited support for customizing the way I would want to use it, so I sort of bailed. The U11 does look like a nice phone, but not sure it is worth a $200 premium over the OP5 for example or a $300 premium over the 3T. Further the U11 doesn't exactly have band 17, though presumably it's OK on band 12 which has band 17 parity in a weird way for ATT. What I'd like is to drive all three phones for a while and then make my decision...
Mint 3T -64GB from reputable sellers on Swappa is over $400. Not sure if I want to go with a first time seller (though, I was a first time seller, once). Good condition goes in the $350-375 range, at the moment. Hmmm...

The U11 looks like such a nice phone. I've been a loyal HTC fan for so long, the 3T is actually my first non-HTC smartphone, going back to Windows Mobile days!
But in addition to the price, the absence of the headphone jack just was a deal breaker for me. Folks keep saying that it's due to the waterproofing, but that's nonsense. Samsung, LG (and I believe Sony as well) achieve waterproof IP ratings with headphone jacks, plus MicroSD slots. And the charge slot doesn't seem much different, in terms of waterproofing. It more seems to me that manufacturers just want to utilize the space (by removing the headphone jack), or save a dollar or 2 on having to waterproof the headphone jack. And in the process force "progress" that customers don't actually want; but make them "think" they want it.
Okay, sorry for the rant. Maybe not even one of the issues you were referring to. But just my own thoughts on the topic.
Thanks all.
I had lots of hesitation points on the 5 so I decided to buy a 3T for now. Got a mint one (64Gb) for $370 on swappa a few minutes ago. I will play with it for a month or two while keeping my eye on the developments on the 5 and other phones of interest. Can always trade up later if I feel like it.
Thanks for all your help.

U could hav pick the 5, 3t update support will soon slows down while the 5 is being prioritized. 911 issue and 4k stabilization is already fixed with the latest update.

We're on xda bro. We don't rely on OnePlus for support
Thanks. Frankly I'm waiting to see if the 5 evolves at all. 5T etc. Meanwhile will have fun with a 3T. [emoji3]

Jelly effect is a deal breaker (at least, for me). I ordered a OnePlus 5 at launch, go it for 2 days, send it back to refund, and purchased a OnePlus 3T yesterday.
Yes, I could have wait for the 5T (tho, we are not even sure about it); if we always wait, we never buy.
Plus, OnePlus 3T still has an awesome community (with Boeffla and Dorimanx for example, I know my device will have kernel update for a looooong time) and some awesome specs, even for 2017.
So yeah @Frankenscript, I think you made a great choice
