Process - Band 12 OTA Update with root? - BLU R1 HD Questions & Answers

Surprised that I haven't seen a post on XDA yet showing us peeps that have rooted and removed ads how to apply this new update. I still think it's fictitious! haha
Seriously though, what would be the proper procedure here, revert to 100% stock then take the OTA or does anyone have hiding the .img file to flash via fastboot or whatnot? Are we able to even get root back after the B12 update? If not, I'd rather leave the phone as it is with root. It's been a long time since I've even messed with this phone because of lack of B12. I just impulse bought it because I wanted a decent spare phone.
Thanks!

Your answer was extremely vague, but after reading the OP in that post several times, I took the plunge with 7.4.2 and worked perfectly. Thank you!
So for those that were confused like I was, here's the skinny:
Anyone with a R1 HD running build 6.6 or 6.8 can do what I did:
1. download the 7.4.2 shown in the post above to your SD card
2. boot into twrp (I used whatever version I already had - back when it first came out to rid me of ads)
3. full wipe (I tried dirty flashing, and magical unicorns reached out from my screen and slapped me in the face)
4. booted and waited about 5 minutes.
5. LTE Discovery shows the use of Band 12 without modification (I'm in a burb of Dayton, OH which is fringe Band 4 and excellent Band 12 coverage)
6. VoLTE is shown in Settings --> More --> Cellular Networks --> "Enhanced 4G LTE Mode"

Yes its not very clear
The last time I flashed something from that page it reset everything I did not care I had my apps backup.
So I have to do a full wipe? then restore with android titanium backup
then root once more from twrp?
Im not sure why I would want to flash this this is has updater enabled. I would lost root if they pushed a new update. I could just disable it like before.
its a good hour to do that. I have to back up the current rom. get a good back up with titanium backup, install the room root it set up the account then restore with titanium backup. Im using tmobel is it worh it? Im on wifi most of the time.

I dirty flashed, no problems. didn't lose any apps. You will lose root but then you just flash supersu and you're rooted again. It's really no problem at all to do.

I'm still slightly confused. What if we are on the V12 non-Prime (dated 6/27/2016)? Is there an update to the V12?

This enables Blu's wireless update, not Amazon's. Also the modified stock feels pretty much like the V12 did. No traces of Amazon at all.

Any word on what the difference is between Taiwan firmware and any european country customization?
I doubt it's the usual case of essentially no difference, given the SGP311 has only a handful of generic firmwares compared to xperia devices with mobile radios. It's also the only non-europe firmware available (from what I've read Customized PH is grouped with europe in spite of the geography)

I got the root guide from this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xpe...how-to-root-lollipop-xperia-tablet-z-t3115107
As for languages, all languages are available. When you first start the tablet, a first start guide will run. The first screen lets you select virtually any language. Once you select it, all future prompts will be in the language you selected. Hope this helps.

I am getting random reboots in this rom and would like to go back to cm. However, since flashing this rom I cannot reboot to recovery. I've tried the hardware buttons, adb, and various applications and it always boots to system. I'd be grateful for some help.
Recovery not yet available in lollipop.

Unfortunately, by installing lollipop you loose recovery...so there's no easy way back
In a nutshell, you must go back to a kit-kat ROM, root it (e.g. install .283, then install .230 KERNEL ONLY and force towel root from flash tool. Then install 283 KERNEL back) and then install NUTs dual recovery.
More detailed instructions can be found here.

Thank you very much for your reply. I feel pretty stupid - I was very happy with CM and only wanted to try out the stock rom, never would've done so if I had realized it was not easy to go back.
Any ideas then about a possible resolution for the random reboots? Never happened on this tablet before, stock or CM. When I flashed this stock lollipop rom I did not do a full wipe, I did wipe the caches.
---------- Post added at 10:37 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:00 AM ----------
Well I've gone from bad to worse I used those instructions - I had used this process before to gain root - and got the the part in the procedure where flashtool reboots the device to flash 10.5.1.A.0.283.
Now the tablet cycles through the Sony Xperia screen over and over - it will not boot to system and will not go into flashmode. I can get into fastboot mode but I'm not sure what I can do to resolve this from there.
Again, any help is appreciated.
---------- Post added at 10:55 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:37 AM ----------
OK - looks like I got it - I simply flashed the twrp recovery image in fastboot mode and that did the trick - restoring my lovely cm 12 now.
All set - thanks again for pointing me in the right direction.
How did you install it? Downloaded the zip file but not sure which tool I should use.
EDIT: Never mind. Flashtool has really come a long way. I used it to get the firmware and then install it. Can't ask for more than that.
has anyone tried using philz touch 6?
Hi, just wondering where did you get the twrp recovery image that you can flash in fastboot? Thanks in advance, I'm currently in bootloop as well

[SOLVED] Hot, hot, hot... too hot?

Regardless of the rom I try, the Mi Mix gets uncomfortably hot. The only versions that stay cool are MIUI 8 and MIUI 9, but everything else (Resurrection, Epic ACiP, AOSIP, Lineage) are usually running the CPU up to between 65° and 75° making the thing uncomfortable to hold. Not with gaming mind you, but simply browsing or switching the sucker on. Any ideas how to fix this behavior?
----------
Solution
I followed the advice of James1089
I wiped everything apart form storage, also the system.
I downloaded the firmware 8.1.4 from the address provided in the post below
I installed the firmware prior to installing the rom
... then the rom ...
... then Magisk...
...then opengapps.
Now the Mi Mix runs cooler. Still warmer than stock but I can't
fry eggs on the back any more. A shame, since they don't
stick to the ceramic back.
Thanks again.:good:

Try AICP latest build with that firmware, wipe system and both caches, reflash gapps and magisk. If it still runs hot wipe from fastboot before ripping phone apart.

Hi again, in which order do I flash what?
1. I did a standard Wipe (Data / Cache / Davlink)
- is that correct.? I do not want to wipe my user data where all my roms and backups reside
2. Then I installed AICP
3. Then I flashed the firmware 8.1.4_Mi_Mix
4. Then I flasched Open Gapps
5. Then I flashed Magisk
Still 65° without doing anything...

You will have to wipe system as well, from advanced wipe, that will not delete data, that could well be the problem, first flash firmware then ROM and gapps. Last of all magisk, backups never perform well after restore in my opinion. They will remain intact regardless.

Started fresh again and it seems to be doing better but now viper4android doesn't work constantly, it keeps cutting off and on every few seconds.
Had to erase everything then flash 8.1.4 > AICP > gapps >
> restart > magisk > restart > viper > restart.
Now idling around 55-60c. Still higher than I'd like.
Gonna try the Psy kernel and see if using a different Governor helps.

Yea well viper is an older ROM so probably not good with 8.1.4 firmware, AICP has a weekly update and only works properly with 8.1.4. with the last 2 updates.

I don't think viper4android is causing it tho.

Personally I think is not worth it. This is not final build and will delete data from your device. Then next one will show up in couple days or even (maybe) tomorrow. If I will you I will wait for around another 3-4 weeks to get more stable build.
Sent from my SM-N950U using XDA Premium HD app
I tried it -- the installation took about an hour in Recovery, mainly stayed in the "Patching system files". This install *WILL* wipe your phone (not your SD card though).
The build was super fast (even faster than a fresh Nougat flash).
There were two things that caused me to flash back to Nougat.
- The Wi-Fi was extremely weak. At my desk at work, I can normally see 6 Wi-Fi networks. 4 of them are in my office. With Oreo, I could only see two of them, and it struggled to stay connected to the one that I normally have full signal on.
- Also, my AT&T Gear S2 Classic could not be connected. Upon attempting to pair (after confirming the PIN on phone/watch) Samsung Gear gave a message stating that I need to ensure my phone was compatible and that I had the latest Samsung Gear app. I confirmed that there were no available updates for ANYTHING in the Play Store and Galaxy Apps. Both stores showed that my app was up to date.
If it weren't for those two issues, I'd still be on the Oreo build right now.
Another point -- I experienced my first freeze/reboot on this phone in Oreo. I've had the phone since June of last year and never had any freeze/reboot issues previously. Never dropped or gotten the phone wet, etc.
Hope this helps anyone who is wanting to flash the build!

Without a PC, you cannot update to Oreo unless you're already on the AT&T G935A firmware.

As far as I can tell, there's not an OTA sideload update path to BRA1. Someone else may be able to chime in with it.
I assume you are not an AT&T customer, otherwise you could use the official OTA method to get to BRA1.

You are right. I'm using the Verizon 935V model anbd now I flashed ATT firmware and wanna try to install OREO update

As far as I can tell, there's not an OTA sideload update path to BRA1. Someone else may be able to chime in with it.
I assume you are not an AT&T customer, otherwise you could use the official OTA method to get to BRA1.

You're in luck then, I've laid out all the OTAs you need to install to your device.

Thanks for the feeback, I tried this and I agree on weak Wifi on Oreo. I will keep and play with it for sometime before going back to Nougat. Hopefully new stable version shows up soon.
You are a lucky man because i'm flashing via adb and only 59 %. Which issue with a WiFi ? Can you please provide me more information and maybe do you know who will it fix ?
Thank you

I face the same issues you have described. Originally after applying the Oreo update, I was not able to enable Bluetooth nor WiFi. I had to reboot to recovery and wipe cache.
Once that was done, I was able to get WiFi and Bluetooth to work.
I have the Galaxy Fit2 and was not able to sync watch to the phone with the same error you received. ( I tried the version 3..1.80.80109 of Samsung Accessory Service as suggested in another thread, no luck.)
WiFi as you described is pitiful, luckily I don't rely on WiFi as much so I will continue on with this Oreo build.
Does anyone know how to turn off the red heart rate sensor light off? It is accidentally turning on even if I dont get my finger on it after oreo update

Wifi issue meaning weak signals in Wifi connection on Oreo. I simply followed the steps in flashing through SD card and it took a while (40 mins or so) but eventually it went through the install.

Magisk and Mi9

Has someone with unclocked bootloader been able to install Magisk?
It would be awesome to have root and Gpay working thanks to it

I hear it should be easy enough. I'll be able to unlock on Tuesday evening and so will report back on my successes (and/or failures!)

I may even try just keep stock rom and root that, by attempting to modify the boot.img, as shown in this thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/magisk-twrp-device-encryption-t3733601/page1
Stock rom is fine for me for now and whilst I'd love to try out the EU rom, I will be happy enough to have my phone as it is now (firmware wise) but with root and all the joys that brings (app theming, ad blocking, viper4android etc).
Tuesday night I'll get to start playing around and attempting all of this. I'll definitely post a guide of whatever I'm successful with

How has everyone progressed with unlocking their phone. My time has come for me to do it, but busy with work the next couple days so have to wait til then. I plan to unlock, then hopefully root so I can do a full back up, then flash a global rom on my chinese version phone. One thing I don't understand yet is do I need to install another recovery (twrp) or will the global version flash ok on the stock recovery? Thanks

If you just want to flash the global version use miflash. If you want to go xiaomi.eu you have to use TWRP.

I just flashed blobal version as I'm in Australia and all went well. Next step is to root. I can still install twrp right? Will this end up wiping my device if I do it now?

TWRP per se doesn't wipe anything but... Yes, if you didn't format yet the data partition do 'decrypt' it, you'll have to do it
Grazie amico. Sounds like I have to do it again. Didn't take long to restore from backup. Mi backup is actually very good.
With Unlocked bootloader magisk "works" but you can't update to magisk 18. It's broken for some reason. Only magisk 17 works.

I have a problem. Yesterday in between transactions suddenly my Google pay card stopped working. When I tried to add it again - I got info about root or other modification to the system. SafetyNet check was pass! I installed magisk, and hidd Google pay. Still no go.
Can't add the card.
Any thoughts?

Sadly my Google pay stopped working. I made a transfer and I tried to make another one after 10 minutes only to be rejected. I tried adding the card again only to fail with info about phone modification... SafetyNet test passed ok! I tried installing magisk (19) and hid some things. But that didn't helped..

My tips: clear the data of Google pay/Google play services/nfc services, use magisk hide for Google play services, Google pay, reboot. Also ensure Secure Element Position is set to HCE Wallet.
Hope that works for you!

Help a new owner out with a couple of root questions

Hi! So a brand new MI 9 owner here wondering about a few things in regards to rooting the phone (without TWRP). My main concerns are, 1) is there still a waiting period to unlock the bootloader? 2) Does rooting cause some system apps to not work properly? For example in my previous phone the cost for rooting (or unlocking bootloader) was terrible camera quality.. And 3) can I still get regular system updates without having to manually flash a full rom?
Oh and a bonus question! Has anyone tried if there's any way to use Xperia keyboard on this phone? It's the only keyboard that hasn't made me want to go toss my phones in the river...
Not sure if there's any way to root mi9 without twrp, someone will hopefully correct if i'm wrong, but i've not heard of one - you need the advanced options twrp offers over stock recovery to flash magisk, but i may be wrong. Perhaps you may be able to extract ur boot img or something and inject magisk, so it's pre-rooted, but i don't know how to do that, sorry. Most peoples banking apps work in most places using magisk hide but i've read that some banks/regions require further work. Not heard of any reports of camera degradation tho.
Why don't you wanna flash twrp? Yes, there's a waiting period to unlock bl. Not sure about the keyboard, don't have it

Well this was at the top of the Mi 9 Guides, News & Discussion page here: [TUTO] Complete tutorial to root MI9 without TWRP (Keeps intact encryption of the MI9. Encryption is always good and I haven't needed TWRP much before so I figured that's the best option for me. Oh and no, there's no wait time anymore. Just downloaded the unlocker and it gave me the green light to go ahead. Bought the phone yesterday..

Ah OK, hadn't seen that thread. Good luck with it all. Download Mi unlock tool and it'll tell you how long to wait, maybe 720 hours.. There is a thread for instant unlock, but it's only worked on a few cases
You definitely want to flash Magisk via TWRP, because you will need a few modules there that really improve the phone, are absolute must haves.

Such as bump audio bitrate when recording up to 6ch, 960kbs; Youtube Vanced, Netflix (yes, if you root it, you will need magiskhide or no Netflix), liboemcrypto disabler; Cloudflare DNS; Viper4Android (this one quite optional, but makes such a difference).

I don't know what's your doubt, but mauronofrio's TWRP keeps the encryption per default.

Really? If the encryption is preserved with it, I don't see any reason not to go TWRP. Can't believe I've missed that, I try to do my research before posting Thanks for the tip!
Yeah, encryption is on, I've never had my phone with a decrypted ROM. Using mauronofrio's TWRP -35 currently.
