Extra button and Android Wear 2.0 - Asus ZenWatch 3

Anybody worried because the Zenwatch 3 has a extra button (non-standard from other Android Wear devices), it may take even longer to get Android Wear 2.0 ?

wear 2.0 already supports the extra buttons on the urbane 2 for app shortcuts. It's in the settings, no extra app needed.

Seeing that a recent update to Zenwatch manager allows configuration of both the top and bottom buttons, I don't see that there will be an issue. I don't think that the current versions of AW officially support the extra buttons either... but they work.

I have a Zenwatch 3, I got it about 5 days ago and I don't
see any options in Zenwatch Manager having to do with
the two extra buttons or any of the buttons.
Where exactly do you see the button settings located in
the Zenwatch Manager?
My version of the Zenwatch Manager is 3.1.0.161116 which was
updated on Novermber 16th. 2016 so I do have the latest version.
Thanks in advance,
Have a great day!

The settings aren't in the Zenwatch manager, they're in the watch settings. Just swipe left ON THE WATCH and scroll down until you see the button settings.

I'm just hoping it's not like how they treat their tablets, the ZenPad s 8.0 got marshmallow just a couple months ago which I had to manually update and it is janky as hell for an official firmware.
BUT I remain hopeful :fingers-crossed:

Let's hope within March will get the update.
It's reasonable time for Asus to release it.

Android Wear 2.0
I wonder if the middle button on the zenwatch 3
will be used to scroll through menus, emails, apps
and notifications.
The middle button does "turn" so I'm thinking perhaps
it's like the dormant speaker in the zenwatch 2 which
did nothing until the the watch was updated with the
marshmallow 6.1 android wear firmware update???
Perhaps and hopefully the middle button on the
zenwatch 3 is also dormant until the the watch is
updated with the new android wear 2.0 firmware.
Let me know what you guys think.......

That's what I'm hoping, so fingers crossed! Just about to get one of these!
I did read that the watch was supposed to launch with Wear 2.0 but with the delay to the OS it shipped with 1.5

It wont support the scrolling feature as its just a button..

I don't mind the latest upgrade, the button brings up the menu easy to scroll on the watch face through the menu.

Gear with tizen working on non Samsung phones non rooted and rooted

I bought a gear for $99 dollars it's on tizen and I have it working with my sprint htc one m7. The other thread is mixed and I thought it would be good to start a tizen one for non Samsung phones. I'll try to help everyone I can.
If you haven't installed tizen I did it with this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=53028751
Ok so if you want your gear on tizen to connect with any phone rooted or not all you need is the newest gear manger apk and gearmanger stub apk but if your not rooted some things won't work .. what will work will be almost everything but calllogs, music controls, svoice, message app only but message notification will work just to make it clear .. and you won't be able to install apps from Samsung store endless you side load them idk how to sorry. Notifications work camera calls everything else works all you do install the gear manger stuff I said like regular apks .. if you want apps from Samsung store there's a tutorial in the gear 2 thread how to do it on non Samsung phones but you need root for that . But if you want what I said just install the apks.. I have my htc m7 Sprint connected to it
"This part works for non rooted and rooted"
Here's the link to get the newest gear Manger and gear Manger stub apks.

Does upgrading to tizen and the new manager solve the issue where calls are routed to the gear when you answer on the phone (not an issue with samsung devices).
Main reason why i would upgrade or buy a samsung phone, driving me nuts

No it still does the same thing.. But you just have to push audio source and change right on the dialer no biggie.. Tizen is worth it at least for the watch side of things. Great battery life I get 2 and half days before with Android I would get 12 hours. Beside that you get all true notifications you don't have to add any app right out the box with the apks installed.

This is the Themes and Apps discussion area for the original Galaxy Gear.
You may have better luck asking in the Q&A/Troubleshooting section under the Gear Live forum.
As the Gear Live runs Android wear and the original gear runs either a custom Android 4.2 build or Tizen, the process is different.
I believe Android wear has a setting to put it in Ambient screen mode under the settings menu (bottom of main Google now options screen). As Iddon't have a gear live or android wear device, I'm only going off of memory from what I've seen in videos

R381XXU0BNL2 New Firmware Changes?

My Gear 2 Neo just got updated to R381XXU0BNL2, I've been trawling the internet for a changelog without any luck.
All I have noticed so far is the android/tizen version has been increased to 2.2.1.2
link: LINK TO SAMMOBILE FIRMWARE PAGE
Anyone noticed any other changes?
(still wishing someone would port Android wear to the watch)
hi i just received the same update, the only thing i noticed is that is smoother than before. (By the way i wish someone can port android wear too)

Yeah Gear Manager works ok and watch styler seems to be ok too, Looking at the dates on the SamMobile site it doesn't look like any pattern emerging as to when Canada will receive updates. recently Russia got version NK2 but no other country did!
seems like a very strange update rollout technique.
Update: watch does seem a bit smoother, but I have had 2 occasions where the screen wouldn't come on and I have had to long press the button to bring up the power menu. I rebooted on both occasions as the watch seemed really laggy.
Any more feedback guys?
Thanks in advance! Too nervous to mess with it, it REALLY runs fine now with my 4.4.2 Note3
hi

Tizen version didn't increase. It was 2.2.1.2 for BNE5 too.
The biggest problem of these firmwares is that the notifications
don't remain on the screen until dismissed by the user. I have
to use clock with shortcuts with one of the shortcut being notification
in order not to miss any notification.
I was hopping it will get fixed with the next update. I'm still on BNE5
firmware. Can you please confirm/infirm is that was fixed?

Not sure how you have your notifications set up: on BNE5 I get persistent notifications for my email app (the only one I care about - work... ) by selecting it in the Samsung Gear list. I believe you can also configure the button to pop up notifications on double-press if everything else fails.
Curious about experiences with BL2...Tizen gets so little publicity it's almost like no one cares...so no feedback on the web other than a few posts here.

I was talking about sms and missed calls notifications. These are not persistent.
I would like to use "clock + events" but because I miss a lot of notifications
I have to use "clock + shortcuts" instead. Number of missed notifications
is indicated by a digit on the notification shortcut icon. No need to
double press home button each time. It's enough to check the time.

I know where to find it, but I'd rather not do a manual upgrade seeing how there is NO info re changelog and have no clue why it's not available to North America.
Weird...talk about Samsung's transparency.
Samsung started a mass update of the firmware according to the site above dates. Probably it will reach you soon. I have a Hong Kong version of it (TGY) although I've bought it from Europe and I have to wait for it too. If the wait is too long I might go to samsung care center and ask to change my CSC to my country.

Well then your screwed. Look on Samsung site for firmware. This device has never had a u.s firmware from that site. And any I mean any firmware they release is there. I flashed u.k watch is fine. If you flashed tizen or rooted at all. You will never get a update ota. Try in gear manager says your device has been modified and can not receive ota updates.
Sent from my 0x1 Note 3...... I love tep
Most certainly this is the last update. Samsung is always doing mass updates for the last firmware. BNE5 update was released in May. So if there is still a new update after BNL2
it will be very far away in time. So I won't worry about not getting ota updates anymore. You can check mrcrab site and do a last flash if it's needed.
FYI...I did get BNE5 when I first booted up the watch (and I only bought it 3 weeks ago)...so there were NA updates- just not this one.
More importantly, please post here if you run into any problems on BNL2 as like I mentioned, I have ZERO issues currently so stability is more important to me than new features which I might not use.
Cheers :highfive:

Android Wear 2.6, Worth it? my experience

Well, I went back from 2.0 to 1.5 as most of us, it was more like a downgrade than upgrade: many features lost, disappointing battery life in general, assistant not working properly or taking too long, etc
I read the news about 2.6 the other day and say: why not? Let's try it.
Did a full restore, flashed original 1.5 files, and let it update on his own for around 1 or 2 hours. The watch restarted several times during this process.
IS IT BETTER THAN 2.0?
Yes, at least for me.
Everything is the same, same options, same screens. But the performance is quite better:
- With 2.0, assistant did not work for me outside a wifi network. And when it did, the time for response was reaaaaally slow. With 2.6 assistant work without any problem.
- with 2.0 I had 25% battery left at the end of the day (12~14hrs aprox). With 2m6 I have 40% at the end of the day. (with 1.5 like 60% but well, it's a quite know problem the battery drain).
Aside from that, everything is the same.
Hope this post helps anyone out there still using his LG G Watch R
Hi,
Thank you for this feedback.
When you say, "everything is the same", do you mean the same than AW2.0 or AW1.5?
Are we able now to switch off the screen with a double tap on the side button?
Are we able to accept calls and reject calls with a predefined SMS?
Are we able to access to the drawer apps with a simple screen swipe on the left?
Are we able to see missing notifications in the background of the watchface?

Not sure about what do you mean... Hmm... If you have missing notifications, when you turn screen on, there a kind of 'popup' icon on the bottom than indicates you the last missed notification. Also a counter of missed notifications.
Hope it helps!

I installed and activated Hangouts on my phone, then installed the wear version on my watch. Now I can send SMS messages directly from my watch without my phone by using to a wifi connection. I haven't found an email client that I like, but just being able to send an SMS is a big bonus. The LG G Watch R is still one of the best looking android watches out there. I also switch watch bands that are made for the Huawei Watch 2. If this watch had NFC I wouldn't even look for something new, I'd just change the battery when it gets weak.

Bixby version 2.0, your thoughts?

Note 9 announced, so came Bixby along with it. This time it's version 2.0, out of the box. Samsung says it's now better at predicting user needs, processing natural languages and is quicker. You like it or you are going to remap it with a remapper or disable it forever? Or you want it to be dead already? Share your thoughts.
I'm too heavily invested in the Google assistant ecosystem. I liked how DJ Koh talked about how fragmented systems are because companies want to control, but results in a poor user experience, but then of course there's no way to disable bixby easily....not very open if you ask me.
I'll still test it out of interest.

Well, you can forget Bixby home, let only the "Bixby voice" to stay and to follow your commands, can disable both and 4get forever or can Remap with remapper.

I think I'll give it another shot. Only reason I had stopped using was because I'm invested in Google Assistant. At least that's what I thought until just now when I realized, the only thing I use Google Assistant for is a 30 minute timer for my lunch clock punches.
Plus there's just something weird about saying "Hi Bixby," out loud.

good to know that. Thanks!
I currently use it only for system control. My daily driver is Google.
I use Bixby all the time. Google Assistant is my reminder only use. Now that it remembers you are in a conversation and don't have to keep repeating the initial context I'll be using it even more.
I'm not seeing options to disable Bixby hardware button entirely in Note 9, unlike S9/S9+.
The settings and UI are different in Note 9 in comparison to S9/S9 plus, but no option of "do nothing" when you press the Bixby key in Bixby settings or Bixby voice settings.
**The unit I'm having is NOT a retail unit, it's a demo/review unit, with latest OTA flashed 2 days back with few enhancements and August security patch. The option to turn the Bixby hardware button into a totally "dead" button might show up in retail units.

ButtonMapper doesn't work as well. But I would assume those apps might work in future once devs start working on it.
Update:
Checked a retail unit and Bixby settings are not different from the demo/review unit I had been using.
So, using bixby/phone settings one cannot turn the button completely off, for now. This is ugly and a step backwards from S9/S9+ IMO.
