Cannot use Android Pay - Xiaomi Mi MIX Questions & Answers

Is android pay working for anyone else?
When I try to add a credit card, it says
Android Pay can't be used on this device
This may be because your device is rooted, has an unlocked bootloader, or is running a custom ROM. As a result, Google can't confirm that your device meets Android Pay's security standards.
I just got phone today and haven't done anything to the device as far as the FW or root.
It's on MIUI Global 8.0 Stable 8.0.8.0.0
Thanks for any help provided.
Happy Holidays.

You have a vendor rom.
Theres no global rom for the mix, only China Stable, Dev and an unofficial eu.

It looks like it's MAHCNDI which I think I can get an update for here. But I understand what you mean by the vendor rom.

Does anyone else have any problems w/ android pay on the normal EU ROM?
Under the default wallet in settings, it shows Mi Wallet or Use HCE Wallet.
and Tap & Pay, the payment default is Android Pay but no other options.
Anyone else have any issues?

I'm using EU rom (6.12.8) now. When I tried to use Android Pay, the app said that it cannot be activated on this device because it seems to be "rooted, bootloader unlocked and/or using custom ROM".
Changing default wallet in settings doesn't make any differences.

Hope I don't get this problem with PayPal card reader or I'm screwed, when I had mi note pro I had to install via apk and had to use full password no mobile pin allowed.

What do you mean by a Vendor ROM? It literally says MIUI global, there isn't any Chinese bloatware, and it automatically has the play store installed.

I am using China Stable and Android Pay is reporting the same message.

Same on miui global 8.2

The only way is to install custom ROM with Magisk hide and Xiaomi Fix

Mi Mix ROM clarification

I have been extremely confused on what the available ROMs are for this device. I usually am not this cautious, but the sheer rarity of this phone always makes me think twice with what I do with it.
So after reading around a bit, to my understanding these are the available ROMs:
Chinese Stable
Chinese Developer
EU unofficial global (on MIUI 6.x.x??!)
Vendor ROM
What I don't understand is that listed for me is "MIUI Global 8.0 | Stable 8.0.7.0.0 (MAHCNDI)". No Chinese bloatware, English is set by default, play store is automatically installed...
I want to update my phone OTA, but clearly this is broken as no updates even pop up after checking. My question is:
What rom am I running?
Of the following ROMs mentioned which one is the update to my device?
Thanks guys, I hope I haven't been the millionth person to ask.
Edit: after reading a bit more I've found others in my same situation. English is automatically selected, no bloatware, and the playstore is automatically installed. Apparently I have a vendor ROM, one that was installed by the seller/vendor. It's extremely hard to believe that this isn't an official global ROM!
So this Chinese stable rom: http://en.miui.com/thread-436070-1-1.html , would it have bloatware and the whole 9 yards of hell?
I can't update OTA because the updater is broken and I'm not trying to unlock the bootloader unless it's absolutely necessary. Am I on an abandoned ROM?
I had this rom it wasn't EU rom it is global same as you 8.0.7.0.0 I liked it cos it clean of all that bloatware that other roms have but I couldn't install xposed so I tried an EU rom and it did work the Eu rom does have some Chinese crap in it but some can be uninstall and now I have a very good looking and working rom, you got to tweak and customize it as you which and i'm happy with it.
I am in the same situation as you, I'm on 8.0.8.0.0 "Global" . It was installed by Gearbest, I can only assume. My updater can't see any other ROMS, not even when I've downloaded it either. So yes I think it's "abandoned".
I've asked for my phone to be unlocked so that I can get access to update the ROM later on from Xiaomi. It's been about 24 hours, I can only assume they're busy since lots of the phones have been delivered to customers by now.
My plan is to go onto the EU ROM unless I can get access to google apps using the Chinese ROM.
So to my understanding now, Xiaomi flashed every device that was sold internationally (ones shipped to redistributers like GearBest or Geekbuying)? And now they offer no support or legitimate way (besides unlocking the bootloader) to update... Can somebody correct me or didn't Xiaomi curse us with this beautiful device?
Interesting to hear. Maybe I'll check out the EU ROM

Mi 8 and NFC

Does Mi 8 Global Version NFC work with GPay (Android Pay)? I'm in the UK.
Good question, does it?
Google Pay won't work with an offical xiaomi rom neither official global stable nor china stable or beta and so on ...
This is due to xiaomi's roms doesnt support google pay in their roms.
You'll need a costum rom that offically support google pay like xiaomi.eu.
I'm using xiaomi.eu beta on my Mi8 and i can confirm it works great with this rom in Germany even with magisk root.
Global beta wont work
I tried to use GPay in Germany with official Global MI8. It seems to work, but my financial institution doesn't support this nice feature
Can someone confirm or not that it will work _safetynet pass_ with global rom and Magisk hide enabled ?

Will be really surprised if it doesn't work. Mi 6 with global ROM works perfectly fine for GPay.
Will try out with a Mi 8 next week for GPay and update you whether it works or not.

no way to relock bootloader in chinese device with global rom?

there is no chance to get a workaround to relock the bootloader in a chinese device running global rom?
Probably not.... Maybe someone make a hack... but I had Yotaphone and there was option to install RU (global) rom - problem was only with no supporting bands and hacked baseband to partially fix it. But here is the problem... damn bootloader - maybe some one will be able to hack and replace vitaminised bootloader with official ?
Development is still weak, we do not have kernel source code, which is a bit difficult but it should appear in the future.
well someone has found a workaround for the Mi Mix 2S?

This is not workaround for the question of the treatd!
I also bought chnina version with global rom and unlocked bootloader
Misled by the seller showing large photo with official global rom, but in description with small lethers:
OS ------------ MIUI, Unlocked Bootloader, Official Global ROM, China Version, Support OTA Update.
(Inquiry is necessary if want to reflash firmware)
I`m still waiting delivery, but after I red what I bought I start looking for solution for relock bootloader with Global Rom. So far, no one manage to make it. As @gugugrp said, we have to wait for solution in future (how long, no one knows).
I have one question too, is it posible OTA Update of the global rom already instaled without locking bootloader?
Hi, why do you want to relock BL with global rom?
I have a CN version with unlocked BL and global rom, but it seems useless to me to lock it, or not?

Some apps don`t work at all or don`t work properly or need third party apps to work. Also, if you use the phone as work one, you would prefer OTA update This is my persional opinion of course. If you are about to use custom roms and to play with the phone, it is beter to leave it unlocked.
The problem is not the unlocked bootloader, but the fact that the MiUI 9 stable play store is not sertificated for this deviece... . You also have OTA with the official global and unlocked bootloader.

Google pay does not work with unlocked bootloader for sure (as far as I know). I red some threads for worckaround with third party apps, but....at your own risk. I`m not a dev, just wanted simple phone with OTA update and decently security. If the problem is only in MIUI 9 and when MIUI 10 Global Official comes out fixes this, I`ll be ok, but anyway...would like to know I can lock bootloader with global rom
That would be my exact question in 12 days. Let me know if you know
Same situation for me, using the Chinese Rom instead which allows to lock the bootloader. I will move to the global one when (or if) this could be done...

I doubt xiaomi will ever rollback on the policy, however if the certification on google play is what u are concerned about, installing an older version of magisk and using the universal magisk patcher can mask the unlocked bootloader

As I said I am using the chinese ROM to avoid having the bootloader unlocked. Therefore I had to install the google play myself . Inside the google play settings, the play protect certification field says: Device is not certified.
I found somewhere that this is the reason why NFC payments do not work.
Do you think that the trick with the magisk old version will fix this?
Other than this the Chinese ROM version is working perfect!

Question Can anyone share their experiences of Xiaomi.eu ROM vs Global ROM?

I own the Mi 11 with CN ROM and have been using it in North America. I'm thinking of flashing a different ROM to see if it will be a better experience. Has anyone in my situation flashed both the Global ROM and Xiaomi.eu ROM and can give an opinion on which is better overall? I'd be interested in things like speed, battery life, Play services compatability etc.
Thanks in advance!
It basically boils down to privacy vs latest updates.
Xiaomi will phone home as much as you let it, I think the EU rom is supposed to fix that but updates take a little longer.

Global is different to the Xiaomi EU one but many wrongly call the EU one global.
Xiaomi EU is based on the Chinese ROM.
Global is for outside China and has less features than Chinese and Xiaomi EU ROM.

I knew that the Global ROM (developed by Xiaomi) is meant for phones outside of China. I also understood that the Xiaomi.eu ROM is created by developers and is different (but based on) the Chinese stock ROM that shipped with the phone. I think you confused me by saying the "Chinese EU ROM" instead of "Xiaomi.eu" ROM which is what I usually see people say.
What I don't like about the Chinese stock ROM for Chinese users is that it doesn't seem to fully support all Google services and the implementation of Android 11 isn't complete (for example I don't see the Nearby Share feature).
What features does the Global ROM (created by Xiaomi for international users) lack that the Chinese ROM has? I think that as long as the Global ROM supports Google services fully I would be happy with it. If not then I guess I would flash the Xiaomi.eu ROM but it would be annoying to have to apply all updates manually.

Can't actually remember most of them but there was a few. A lot of the AI options like app pre loading etc
Xiaomi also confirmed the global Miui 12.5 update will be a "lite" version of the Chinese Miui so software will be more basic.
When I had the Mi 10 the EU version worked better than the global one with Google and notifications in general. Might of sorted that with next month's release.

Ok. Thanks for the info
I have CN ROM and had to tweak it like crazy to get rid of the China stuff and to get notifications to work. Turned off the battery saver for every app I needed notifications and enabled every option.
Now with EU ROM I didn't have to do anything like that, and have the google feed on the left. Everything is perfect with EU - well recommended.
Excuse me for jump in...I want to by Mi 11 Pro. I want Google Play, Google pay, banking aps, Netflix to work. Shell I stay on Chinese Rom or put Xiaomi.eu Rom? I am from Europe. Thanks!
Edit: Now I see it´s an old Topic :-/

I have already tried the latest stable MIUI14 from xiaomi.eu and it seemed quite alright
But I had one problem - which was rather annoying
I couldn't get my banking app to install properly. And I believe that is because the bootloader is unlocked. But my device was original CN, which I then flashed to xiaomi.eu (and locking the bootloader after that, is not recommended!)
So my question here is - if I install the Global ROM instead (which is xiaomi official, in contrary to the xiaomi.eu ROM), will I be able to lock the bootloader after flashing?

The EU ROM doesn't need to lock bootloader.
The EU ROM looks have a issue relate Google Backup.
Does anyone have the same issue?
New - Google Drive backup bug? Backup gone after reboot [updated]
[updated description below because it seems like backups dissappear after reboot] Not sure if this is from ROM or the Google Drive app. After a day or two my Google backup of my phone dissappears. Even though done successfully before and also shown in Google Drive, it dissappears after a day...
xiaomi.eu
One good reason to move to EU rom: it fixed stuff where China Rom doesn't!
For example, in China/Global ROM miui14.0.12 the AOD display will always turn itself off if it lay on a dark room for around 10 minutes. And turning off Bluetooth from android top down menu will turn off 24 hours only and not forever.
In Miui EU, this they fixed it by making it on always. Same goes to Bluetooth turning off when pressed from top drop down menu.
And many other translation jitter you can notice in China Rom if you were to restart your phone. For instance, calendar will show 1 second of Chinese before becoming english.

Question Mi 11 Ultra for North America

I am interested in getting a Mi 11 Ultra, just wanted to know if this would still be a good choice now in Feb 2022. Seems like I can only get my hands on a CN version with Global Rom loaded. I will be using it in Canada. The 5G bands don't really matter to me, as long as the LTE is working I'm ok. However, I have concerns that not all features may work, such as google pay, which i use very frequently. Can anyone confirm whether or not the CN version vs the global version is the same, and whether these features will work for me in Canada?
CHeers
I'm in the US using the Mi11 ultra with the Xiaomi EU ROM on the ATT network that I flashed over the Global ROM. I use Google Pay and all the apps I have used on non import phones. The Global ROM was less usable for me, for instance I couldn't sync my galaxy watch with the phone. I believe I got Google Pay working with the Global ROM but I had far more failed transactions. In short I have found this phone to deliver what I want with the eu.rom.
i am using the global rom on t-mobile in boston. after rooting everything works fine including google pay
great, i've also read that the EU rom is more usable than the global one. I may jump on it and root it as well as use the EU one.
I'm running China version with EU weekly Rom on t-mobile rooted. Everything is flawless

u should read it https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/is-installing-xiaomi-eu-rom-on-global-model-worth-it.4272425/
I have a Mi 11 Ultra CN version unlocked and flashed to .EU ROM. It has worked great, and supports NFC payments and Netflix Widevine L1. I am not rooted, but I have heard plenty of times that you can root just fine and use a root hider (safetynet fix) from the payments apps to retain NFC payment capability.
I Just got mine a week ago and switched to ATT but am una le to activate the sim card and am getting no service. Anything special I need to do? Thanks for the help.
Working great with Bell as well as Fido. Have used Google pay in past , was working fine (only used bcoz applied for replacement card, not a gpay fan). Using EU ROM. I got it from pdaplaza when it released so i got CN version.
Even today in my opinion its good for buying as i like its rearview screen. Using from more than 1 year and Satisfied with its performance.
