Every nexus owner i know bought a nexus BECAUSE it didnt have bloat like touchwiz

OxygenOS may be doable, though there isn't anyone bothering since developers can compile from AOSP and get a cleaner product. Touchwiz however is simply impossible. Not just because it's proven to be impossible to port to a non-Samsung device, but also because it's bloated, power hungry, and ugly as sin. This is coming from someone who still has his S4 but ditched Touchwiz almost as soon as he received it from the seller.

Wait for the Cyanogenmod team to finish their build of CM9 for the Note
i believe the answer is no you can't just plop ICS down on the note or for that fact any phone. reason being android is just an operating system and each manufactor supplies drivers for the different hardware of each phone. there is no pure android build on any phone.

Download the ICS launcher and that should hold you over till CM9 comes out

I was addressing this comment. By the way, the Nexus One was an HTC built phone.
my bad. the phones strickly from google are pure. the same ones sold from carriers need them for the updates.
So if i install the ICS launcher and then upgrade to ICS when it comes out am i not having a pure ICS system? If not then what is left from samsung in my phone that gets in my way of the pure ICS experience?

Ok, i thought that touchwiz was a launcher. It seems i need to grasp the definition of what is touchwiz yet.
A carrier is the company that provides you with telephone service right?
Could you direct me to a link of a concise touchwiz definition(Not wikipedia, i find it very general) so i can better understand why it cannot be removed from my phone?
Thanks

To remove TouchWiz is almost impossible. If you really want that, you will need some serious skills in android-modding. (Its not impossible, only almost).
What i would recommend you is to wait for ICS, see if you like the touchwiz 5.0. (right now the newest samsung devices are running TW 4.0) According to samsung, TW5 should be quite similar to "pure-android" as it was codeveloped by google.
On the other hand, if you dont like that, or if you dont wish to wait, then there is only one solution. Install custom rom. Cyanoged should be probably the best choice, as their launcher is extremely similar to the ISC stock (i think its called trebuchet, but i am not really sure)

MIUI

anyone seen this: http://gsminsider.com/2013/11/miui-android-4-4-kitkat-february-2014/
i know there is much hate on miui. i've used it in the past on other phones and it was not a bad experience.
Nice, looking forward to try out miui once it becomes available.

I'd like to see this working, but the last phone I owned that had a fully functional, non-buggy MIUI rom was the Samsung Fascinate back in 2011. Every other phone I've owned since then (roughly 6-7 devices) have had buggy, incomplete and/or barely usable MIUI roms. As much as I hate to say it, I feel like MIUI's time has come and gone.

Hmm I never really ran into crazy bugs. The biggest issue is lack of device support, it can be a major pain the ass to get them to work on new devices.
It took forever for them to release for the nexus 4 but when they did it was pretty solid.
I hope they do release a build just so i can give it a shot, probably not a daily driver.
I have some bad news.
I'm a Chinese and I have talked with one of MIUI's employers this morning.
MIUI will officially support Nexus7(2013) running 4.4.X in the future but it will take a few months before official release. (I guess it's because of their MiPad)
Nexus 5 is not on the support list right now. (Sun Peng is always bluffing on Weibo) (And Nexus4's MIUI is supported by developers rather than MIUI)
MIUI will not release 4.4.x patchrom in the near future because only few devices running KitKat now.
So, I don't think there will be a MIUI patchrom for 4.4.X before Feb.

Yep, same here. I think the last bug free version of MIUI I ever experienced was the Virgin Mobile LG Optimus V, lol!
Then again, this is the first Nexus device I've owned after owning the S2 and S4, and I must say that this device is so much easier to mod than any other device, so we'll see.

True. Honestly though, even a perfect MIUI rom isn't going to have a place on my phone. It was great back in the Gingerbread days since stock Android wasn't really "there" yet, but I don't see what kind of advantage it could really offer over stock KitKat. In particular, I see the lack of an app drawer as a major hindrance at this point. My homescreen setup has gotten more and more efficient over the years (I'm down to 2 home screens + GNow). The last thing I want now is to have all of my apps puked out on a zillion homescreens and then try to organize it all. I realize I can use another launcher, but to me that kind of defeats the purpose of flashing MIUI in the first place.
Lets wait for it Tried miui v5 in htc desire S and it works great
And updates weekly is awesome.
had miui on htc desire, htc sensation, s2, didnt have official on nexus4....i cant imagine how good it will work on nexus 5

[Discussion] Android Marshmallow for Note 4

As we all know, Android Marshmallow will surely be on our great device, the Note 4. Leaked news say that Note 4 users will start receiving the update in February. Galaxy S6 and its brother Edge will be getting it on January, while the Note 5 and S6 Edge Plus will get it this December. According to these news, the new update will have a new TouchWiz. You can see that it is flat and more Material Design. As we all heard (or some of us), that Google is helping Samsung to create a new TouchWiz that will be so light and so materialistic, which as we can see in the link that it is really more beautiful and looks neater than the older versions. Now, will this new TouchWiz be on our Note 4? I believe it will. I know that the TouchWiz on the Note 5 isn't there for Note 4, but I believe Samsung did that to boost the sales of their Note 5 as it got a lot of bad reviews. Now that a lot of people have bought the Note 5, I think we will get this new TouchWiz along the update Android Marshmallow, or Samsung might even decide to keep their boost for the Note 5 and S7, and release the new TouchWiz for the Note 4 in Android 6.1 (maybe?).
What do you think?

I dont think so we will get the new theme engine.
we could get an improved touchwhiz.
but in 2016 i'll get a note 6.
used all notes from 2 to 4
but due to lack of expandable storage. I'll be skipping note 5. But thanks to rumours. I'm quite positive that it will make a comeback (fingers crossed)
The results are given here. There's nothing more to talk about. Look at how they ditched that poor note 3. I guess android 6.0 will be the last update for our note 4.

This isn't the last list, it will keep updating. Samsung is really good in making phones but they really suck at software... I am close to ditching it, but I got my Note 4 in September which is most likely for me switch to Nexus phones (or even iOS) in the next few years. Though, hopefully Samsung will enhance due to the next few years...

Hehe... yea bro! hopefully they would. But sammy has already heading towards 64 bit OS. The exynos note 4 supports 64 bit libs but our snapdragon phone doesn't.
64bit would help our device alot but it won't happen.. 6.1 should probably be our final build but im on cm so ima stay with the note 4

Hmmm... choice also matters bro. Those who love pure android experience and want latest android versions prefer CM. But as for me, having the latest android version doesn't matter much for me as I love the stock firmware coz there are so many extra options & features that I may not find it on CM. (Not to forget the s-pen features too). Also rooting & installing touchwiz based kernels & roms is like extra icing on the cake! ^_^
Is any news about marshmallow update? Are those release dates official?
hmmm i don't think that the note 4 will have the new touchwiz in near update but i think that it can be ported to our device buy our extremely talented devs.

Of course it won't, it's going to be the story of S3 and we'll also get it badly optimized, but things will be fixed and ported by someone here, as always.
Now we are with Android 5.1.1 BUT still with the old TouchWize UI except some few visual changes here or their !!!
Samsung policy is always like this .... the older generation get nothing new until the Note 4 is dead officially & removed from Samsung lists.
I sold my Note 4 few months back & I got iPhone 6s (such a cool smartphone), then I decide to buy another Note 4 because of the Stylus I really like to play with it, so I'm keeping mt Note 4 as second phone for my other sim.
accept it like it is, update stuff is not for Samsung or Note 4 enjoy like this way.
if you need fast updates get iPhone (I really recommend it) or Nexus phone, also HTC & LG providing faster updates.

Yes man, iPhone providing smooth & easy way for dealing with stuff, & old iPhones get the new OS even before releasing the new iPhone.
Apps quality are also better in iOS.
in short ...in spite of my short experience with Apple & iOS but believe me iPhone does provide user experience that I can't live without it.
and if Apple will one day provide iPhone with stylus, a Samsung Note like, so many people will leave Samsung for Apple.

Of topic?
This threat is for note 4 marshmallow update.
From wat i saw in both s5 and note 4 neither s5 nor note 4 will have the new touchwiz , u already mentioned the reason cuz both note 4 and note5 are too close in terms of hardware so as usual Samsung decided to go against it's habit and decided not to port the new touchwiZ to note 4 Just to make sure that note5 sales are doing well , and about 6.1 update for note 4 I doubt it will have it I think android 6.0 is going to the last update for note 4 same as note3 that didn't get android 5.1.1 and left with buggy android 5.0 unfortionatly This is Samsung THEY ONLY CARE ABOUT MONEY and ptl dont say That every manfacturer does because they don't do it in Samsung way, anyway I am waiting for the update and if leaks were true that it won't have The latest touchwiz as Samsung used to do with previous notes I will move to another brand mostly the next nexus.

is there a way to install cm12/13 on a note 5?

is there any way to do that? i hate bloat ware, and iv heard alot about how bad the note5 is for ram managment and stuff, im coming from a oneplus 1 and would like a stock android experience.

CM is NOT "stock" Android. It is a custom ROM just like any OEM build from GOOGLE source. Granted, Samsung TW is much more intertwined into the framework than many other.
If you call many features "bloatware" then I'd suggest a different device. If you mean apps, then root and remove. There is a "bloatware" thread in General section

Exynos chip guys closed source so until samsung decides to release source code no cm port or at least until one of the devs here crack it the guys here are geniuses and at least one will port it just samsung makes it so hard they never learn that no matter what xda devs will prevail just be patient

in reality, some people tried to port it to the n6, but gave up. then others tried porting it, and then they gave up. there are a very few who would like to see it, but not many, or enough.
Touchwiz on a Nexus ? That sounds more like a punishment rather than benefit.
the title of this thread says it all......
But that is the beauty of having a Nexus... Make a mistake (like putting Touchwiz on a Nexus) and fix it easily.

Touchwiz no no! Many newcomers here switched to Nexus to not deal with touchwiz/knox. It's too laggy & unoptimized. This week the vzw note 4 finally had its bootloader unlocked. Which is a huge feat. Everyone there is thrilled to finally run cm13 to ditch touchwiz. I personally ditched touchwiz the day 4.3/knox was introduced. Knox=devil

I had the S4 before the Nexus. I didn't realize how difficult it is to use Samsung vs. Nexus. For example, the S4 has many different varients like S4 Sprint, ATT, Verizon, etc... there were several times where I flashed the wrong or incorrectly labeled ROM which was for another varient. Then using ODIN, etc, etc.....too much of a headache. Plus the S7 has a locked bootloader across the board so Samsung pretty much has put an end to any type of custom anything actually.
I wouldn't mind the touchwiz multi or floating windows hahaha

He said he is new so common guys, no essentially no one has but you can get modifications on android and themes via a cyanogenmod rom to make it very touchwiz like if thats your thing. You have to stick to the roms listed for your phone base tho as even tho hardware is the same the bios programming and some internals are not indentical and would cause you to brick the device aka turn it into a paper weight, Best of luck and ask on the thread of the rom you look into eventually and there will always be someone willing to help.
No such thing as a stupid question when it comes to Android, when you're working with such a flexible system that has such a HUGE dev scene, anything goes. I'd say it was a decent question, however, like everyone else said, why would you want that on a Nexus? To each their own I guess, but a personal thought: Isn't touchwiz framework and all closed source?
The amount of code added to Android by Samsung, LG, and HTC is so extensive they usually will have a second framework just for the skin. However, simply removing that second framework doesn't get you a stock Android appearance. It simply gets you a device that doesn't function. That's because while the second framework is the obvious location for much of the added code, all the other stock Android files have snippets of Touchwiz code added to them that refer to that second framework. Independent of executive meddling from the carriers, the added code is the reason Samsung takes so long to provide updates to their devices.
Their devices are far more responsive when you throw an AOSP-based firmware on them, since there's no Touchwiz overhead. That's assuming of course that you don't have a locked bootloader.
