Nougat might be coming as said by a Huawei employee - Huawei P8 Guides, News, & Discussion

Hey guys,
I know a lot of us are hoping for a Nougat update, and recently I just talked with someone in person who works with Huawei. She stated that a Nougat update will be coming to the P8, not anytime soon, but it will most likely receive the update. I reside in the UAE (Dubai), and I don't know if what she said applies to all the P8 variants available by region, or if it will be only for the Middle Eastern variants (that being UL-00 and UL-10).
Hopefully what she said is indeed true and is not just giving us false hope. Her response was completely different from what I had received from Huawei Arabia's facebook team, that being only seenzoned by them. :/

that's a good news if what she said is true...
but can i know what her position in huawei since it would not be a reliable source if she just working there just as a seller XD

this information has absolutely no value if it comes from Huawei employee, they dont know anything about it, they are just guessing and often they can not even help you with basic problems, huawei already released list of devices that will get nougat, besides, gpu doesnt support Android 7 API, so there is zero hope, and dont forget, may users that contacted huawei suport about update got reply that it simply can not be updated due compatibility restrictions

some users posted huawei´s anwsers to their questions about nougat update, so its what they said to people, not me... and now you can see you can not even believe them, they are answering differently enventually

Let's all just assume that it will not be updated.
Then it will be always positive news

Android smartphone, new strict rules imposed by Google
Google unveiled the latest edition dell'Android Compatibility Definition, setting some rules to which device manufacturers must comply in order to ensure interoperability and a uniform experience.
Manolo De Agostini @MdeagostiniGoogle November 10, 2016, 12:24 (Source Greenbot)

Google wants to make the experience more uniform and consistent Android. For this reason the company has recently released a new version of the document "Android Compatibility Definition", which lists the rules that Android manufacturers must - or should - follow.
In the new document speaks for instance rapid charge. Google "strongly recommended" that the manufacturers do not push standard proprietary devices, as Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0. The company's goal is not to to spite Qualcomm, but to ensure interoperability between technologies and charger. Besides, with the affirmation of U ...

You are wrong sir. You have to realise that we are talking about OFFICIAL update that that has to be approved by google, that means official android update for mobile of any company has to be fully compatible, including new API, you can not compare that with custom unofficial roms, they dont have to have the same functionalities and google has no power to cancel it,

It can because it supports OpenGL ES3.1 which is mandatory but Vulcan isn't. So it's up to Huawei.

In fact, as I said I is only Huawei's decision and hopefully not make the assholes and update you can not abandon such a former top range which also made them important

It's not. No manufacturer will update a device with Vulkan incompatible SoC.

It's not only about being done - it's about being fully functional and reliable. That cannot be done. Sony failed at it as well - they did Nougat beta tests for the Z3 and the results were dreadful.

No, not at all...

CyanogenMOD 11 for Android One Devices

Question about installation via recovery.
CM 11 is based on Android 4.4.x specification.
But most of the phones with Android 4.2.x has arecopvery compatible with CM 10.x (not compatible with CM11).
Is there any problem to install this ROM (CM1)9 with a recovery not compatible CM11?
Magnetic sensor not working
I want to know that if this project can be put on an automated build server like Jenkins? It'll be very useful for developers and users as well. We'll be able to fix bugs instantly and any upstream changes in the CM sources will be automatically included. This will make the development faster and users wouldn't have to wait for long time for the releases, ROMs can be built on the Jenkins server and OTA Update support can be given to the ROM.
ThankYou

And people visiting this thread, please help me with something. I'm totally confused with Redmi 1S and Android One. I just don't understand, what should I buy? Redmi has excellent camera, good chipset, processor and GPU. But it has heating and RAM problems. But both of them are bugs in MIUI, I will replace them with CyanogenMod. On the other hand, Android One is also gearing up. Good (but 5MP) camera, Mediatek chipset and continuos updates for next 2 years. I'll install CM on it too if I get it. Please someone suggest me a good pick. Thankyou

That'd be possible once Varun submits his trees for official support to CM, he will do it once he fixes all bugs.
And to your next question, its up to your priorities. No one in my family owns an Android One device personally but my uncle owns Redmi 1S and its pretty good. I have used both and both are excellent devices. Redmi is no way going to live up to 2 years if it doesn't gets kernel sources. So see what matters to you most.
I have heard that unlocking bootloader will trigger a hardware change which allows the technician to check whether the bootloader is locked or not. Is that true ? Does it really affect our warranty ? Do we even have to care about it ?

Hi, I am on CM11-3 and I have the two issues listed in the subject. Recovery CWM, CM11, GAAPS full install.

Why?.. Is it impossible?
I am from Germany and have a P7 too. The German telecom wrote an article about an update to android 6 but this was a mistake.
There ist no update... And I think there will be also no one. The P7 is too old.
There is hardly any chance that our Huawei ever gets marshmallow, atleast not officially. Also Developers have no interest in this phone and that's why p7 hasn't got marshmallow via a custom rom. Though I'm not a developer, I will try to build CM for this phone in this summer and see what comes out of it.

The problem is not in absence of interest, but in GPU driver. Even though we have Mali GPU, Huawei used HAL from Vivante GPU (legacy of P6).
So until you can't get rid of prebuilt surfaceflinger and Vivante's hwcomposer, you won't be able to build AOSP / CM based custom ROM.

Well, it's just a matter of some hard work. And since there are not may developers around( like Arca, who quitted developing) willing to commit time for p7, that's why we don't have marshmallow yet. So there is always a workaround, for example the s7 was thought to never even have a kernel not even mentioning the fingerprint, but after a long time a workaround was found by devs. So more devs = success.
You're funny!
I'm not going to keep discussing with you, cause you don't understand what you're talking about.
Keep dreamig.

They are not open source. In AOSP source code hwcomposer has just a skeleton, every vendor implements it by himself. In our case we just don't have any alternative implementation for our SoC except one with Vivante HAL.
I'm trying to apply drivers from other device with Mali-450 GPU, there are couple variants I have not tried yet, but most probably their result will be negative.

This would certainly explain the piss poor gui performance on our little device. I always knew something fishy was at miss.
Just as an idea. I've read that p8 lite has similar gpu to p7, different soc of course. Would it be possible to extract the gpu fun part from the kernel of p8 lite and transfuse it to p7 kernel? On huawei official site there is an official kernel for p7 made for easy download.... Although I'm guessing the camera would be a major issue.
AOSP really would be (is) a dream.

Last update of p8 lite firmware

This what Huawei Poland said in comments under post celebrating 1,5 million of active users of p8lite.

AND THE INTERESTING PART IS:
This phone will get LAST update for Android 6.0 at the end of 2017. This update will be fixed and fully optimized for this phone.

Maybe something bigger is coming, bcs we aren't seeing any movement on updates, you know, almost every 5 day a rom is released to other regions(c432, c205 etc). They didn't released anything since almost 15 days... And they said that one more update will come.... Interesting, i hope for something bigger.
We can expect something around 15th of September - that's mainly date of update releases. But... it's still unknown if we'll keep receiving those updates until end of the year or if there will be only one update

This phone will get LAST update for Android 6.0 at the end of 2017. This update will be fixed and fully optimized for this phone.

System is almost the same, they only "cut" functions, etc... So... slow down under nougat??? How many custom ROMs with Android 7 is in this P8 Lite page??? Any one complains about a slow phone????
Was better if they write " ... P8 lite wont get android 7 update because no longer make enough money for us ...", in that i belive... Android 6 still have bugs, and system tells where and they simply do not bother to find it!
Just do a logcat or see the files in /data/system/dropbox! They tell everthing you need to know!
They simple do copy paste from one model to other, just take and add functions depending on the hardware, etc ....
Huawei ...

You are right. Can you release your next rom (b612?) with implemented missing libs from other phones, as well as the new kernel from kio.... Kismi.. You know??. Disable sim pin, so it won't give trouble. Wish you all the best man, I'm still rocking the B608(skipping b610)
Btw, i like their story that nougat would slow down the phone??

[DEV] RattlesnakeOS [Android 9.0]

Intro
This is a bit different than most postings here, as I'm not providing any binaries to install on your phone and instead providing a simple tool, rattlesnakeos-stack, to build your own OS based on AOSP on a regular basis, with your own signing keys, and your own OTA updates. This probably will be interesting to a small subset of users as it does cost money to run this infrastructure in AWS.
What is RattlesnakeOS
RattlesnakeOS is a privacy and security focused Android OS for Google Pixel phones.
Features:
Based on latest AOSP 9.0 (Android P)
Support for Google Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL, Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL
Monthly software and firmware security fixes delivered through built in OTA updater
Maintain verified boot with a locked bootloader just like official Android but with your own personal signing keys
Latest Chromium browser and webview
Latest F-Droid client and privileged extension
Free of Google’s apps and services
Advanced build customization options
What is rattlesnakeos-stack
Rather than providing random binaries of RattlesnakeOS to install on your phone, I've gone the route of creating a cross platform tool, rattlesnakeos-stack, that provisions all of the AWS infrastructure needed to continuously build your own personal RattlesnakeOS, with your own signing keys, and your own OTA updates. It uses AWS Lambda to provision EC2 spot instances that build RattlesnakeOS and upload artifacts to S3. Resulting OS builds are configured to receive over the air updates from this environment. It only costs a few dollars a month to run (see FAQ for detailed cost breakdown).

Where's the download link for the ROM then?
This is a guide on how to build your own.
Holy crap, give the OP a break, he was nice enough to write up a tutorial for building your own ROM. It may or may not be in the wrong spot but is it really a big deal?

A guide would be a step by step tutorial which this is not. This is a fully automated solution with a tool I developed.
Here is the download link to the tool I developed to build your own RattlesnakeOS: https://github.com/dan-v/rattlesnakeos-stack/releases. I don't publish public builds of RattlesnakeOS as I don't think it's generally a good idea for anyone to install random binaries onto their phones from internet strangers.
I'm not really certain why everyone is so hostile towards a different approach to a ROM. Just because there is no public download link doesn't mean that it is not a ROM.

Nobody is being hostile they're just making a statement that it's in the wrong place as it is not an actual ROM.
The title even says ROM.
ITT: salty kids wanting a spoon-fed rom experience too stupid to read and build it themselves complain to OP who built something amazing. Salt levels in here are getting hazardous

In addition isn't it against XDA rules to post items that require payment without a free version available for members?

The items and tutorial are free and do not require payment, the service used to build the ROM does but it's nothing the OP has control over.

So in order to build this ROM it cost money?
Is there a free way for members to build this ROM?
If not I believe that's against XDA rules.
Wow, didn't expect so much of a negative response. Feel free to delete the thread, move it, whatever. Just trying to share a useful tool/ROM with the community.

Sadly I think XDA isn't the right place to have such a non spoon feeding experience.
Most of the users are mostly clueless about rom building let alone rom devloppement.
They expect a binary to be fed to them and ready to flash.
Anyhow, what you created here required a ton of work and that's greatly appreciated. Kudos to you, at least it's not some random Kang like we can see this forum being populated with.

good job :good: keep it up guys
Way the go!!!
Yeahhhhhh keep up guys.
It's great that this has finally been posted, but it looks like development had stopped. If anybody wants to see this fully working, please support the only Dev who is still trying to fix bugs. He's not getting any help right now, so if anybody can help with development or donations, please do so. Hopefully we will one day have a fully working 8.0 ROM for our device.

Nope no can do different stuff or whatever, look a reason why I bought a new device was not because of it being old or broken, but because development was slowly n now has completely died and that's none of the developers fault it's Sony's for not releasing Android 8.1.0 or even 8.0 HOWEVER the devs are more than capable of fixing it but it's not in their interest to they have many devices and do development as a hobby clearly this was a big project and I am surprised we even got this far I just kept asking and voila! I mean they kept there word and built it ? now this doesn't mean this rom is particularly abandoned anything is possible so if anyone is willing to develop for this device or just rom to fix the the small major n some minor bugs please go ahead ? I posted this not because I was allowed to but because @ReversedPosix asked me too and we felt bad mostly him tbh but yeah ? this will probably be the last project for this device from any developer
Keep up. It's good to see a post about 8.1 here

Many thanks for these words, but unfortunately I'm getting more and more into deep frustration about the issues I can't fix without help.
And I know there are guys who (for example) managed the camera to work but they don't even answer my questions for help or knowledge! Everybody is playing his own game! This way nothing will be done in near future...
There seems to be a working LOS 15.1 for a device with Snapdragon 810 (Moto X Force), but as I have not enough knowledge to develop or build a ROM, this might be of no big help.

Another board, another kernel. No way to adopt it; sorry!
It's not even possible to use sources from another msm8994 board, because the used hardware is not the same; you can't use the drivers; and the drivers from z5* are incompatible with oreo or greater!

as I'm no developer (liberal arts is my job) I have feard something like that. So Project Treble is of no use to this device also. It's a shame.

Treble is just a word. As far as I understand this project, this means that hardware and drivers are separated from app development. There is a layer between "hardware/driver" and app. So, no one needs to change code for drivers; he just can focus on his app development.
The idea behind treble was to reduce the needed work for oem's to update their rom as often as google does.
But as you can see, it fails! If the layer is not supporting legacy drivers, the device is dead!
