Confusion with NEMO models - Honor 5C Questions & Answers

Hello everyone, I'm trying to figure out this new phone I've just bought, the HUAWEI GT3 nmo-L31
According to search results, the GT3 seems to be a exactly the same as the Honor 5c, but there are many different model numbers and versions floating around the forums, and I'm honestly really confused on how this works.
Coming from an old and venerable HTC Desire (Bravo), where everything has always been really straightforward, with lots of information and zero overlapping (one model, one phone, that's it), I'm kind of lost on how to figure out if a firmware would be alright for my GT3 or not.
I see NMO-L31 stock rom updates, and conflicting information on what you can or can't flash, some said you can flash any 5c rom, some only nmo-L31, or L21, and so on..
Should I treat it as a Honor 5C? or completely ignore anything related to that and must wait for NMO-L31 specific stuff? NMO or NEM?
The main question is.. What would happen if I try to flash a rom meant for a 5c? or an OTA for a different model (or region) of NMO-L31? can I use NMO-L31C185B171 even if my current is NMO-L31C432B120?
I'm offering to run any check / provide phone informations and help for devs, as long as it's not something that would brick my device.
They all seem to be the same device, down to precise specifications and sizes.. this is quite confusing. Can we make it a bit better for everyone?
Thanks!

It all depends what type of ROM you gonna install on your Honor. If it is about CM(LineageOS) it will show model number under supported devices.
If it comes in ROM build for specific phone models you have to keep yourself only with your model.
---------- Post added at 10:17 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:13 AM ----------
One more thing is the device your writing NMO-L31 it looks more like Huawei P9 to me. Honor 5c usualy stars NEM from NEMO type.

Can double check on gsmarena as well, ""Huawei Honor 5c: Also known as Huawei Honor 7 Lite, Huawei GT3"" .. I went to look at the P9 and it's nothing like this phone, the P9 uses a Kirin 955 with 3gb of ram, while this (5c, GT3) is on a Kirin 650 with 2gb only.. and for the physical look, the 5c is a 100% match.
But see, this is what I mean with the confusion regarding this phone.
From ADB, it returns NEM-L21 for product name, but printed on the back of the phone, and in settings, it's NMO-L31. This is with the stock rom it came with brand new.
If needed I can provide technical details or anything that could help figure this out. Almost no informations are available on this specific variant of the model on internet.

[Q] Note doesn't get updates

I know there are many threads asking the same question, and I've looked through many, but still haven't find an answer to my problems.
Just to clarify, my phone is not rooted, nor flashed, and I'm planning to leave it that way as long as possible, unless I really can't find any other solution for upgrading my phone
I've bought my phone in December, sim free, at mobile phone store in Serbia, and judging by the manuals language that I got in the box, its most likely imported from Hungary.
As soon as I've powered it on and connected to internet, I've got an update (OTA), which I installed as soon as I got home and plugged the phone to charger. Since then, I haven't got a single update, whenever I manually check I get "No updates!", and Kies says I have latest firmware, but im stuck on KK5 :S
It not big deal for now (even though I see that many people report improvements in newer firmwares, and I would also like that), but what about the ICS upgrade that will come in next month or two ?
Is there any way to force update, without flashing it manually or rooting the phone, or I'm stuck with this for good?
Is there anyone I can contact regarding this question who can give me any estimations ? Who is responsible for updates for sim free phones ?

If samsung have not still released new Firmware for your area, you won't get it.
Samsung never announce regarding release date for any ROM, Any region. You have to just wait till you get it.
Nobody can give you exact date of ICS release. wat we hearing is you can consider as Rumor.
You have always option to update your device manually. You can find all details in links of my signature.
May be CEO samsung Mr. H. B. Lee can answer, but i dont know how to contact
Thanks for your reply!
Well, I've read all your tutorials for now, and I will use them when I decide to start with rooting + flashing
What about that region changing ? There is no possibility to change region and get updates ?

Ya, you can change the region, but you'll wipe your phone.
Sorry to hijack the thread.
my 'about phone' is exactly the same as OPs, to the last detail. My handset was bought in the UK, and is unrooted as yet.
I'm on XEU csc and as far as I'm aware, I SHOULD have had an update by now? yet it still has not arrived. is this normal for a UK note XEU with KKA kernel/ KK5 baseband?
many thanks.

So its totally safe, and I will get updates for sure if I do that ?
My warranty wont be void ?
How do I do that, and what is the best region to choose ?

@turshija
i am also still on KK5. I am not sure what you expect from new update. Until official ICS update, you only can expect some small things, like safety patches. What i red on forums, latest update have only changes on keyboard (added numbers), and for me its not something special.
You will lose your warranty if you root your SGN, and i agree with you to not flash the phone during warranty period. Its not so cheap toy
On other hand, when i bought my alternative phone 2 years ago (HTC HD2), i installed Android after few days, because Windows made me felling like a grandfather. I am still playing with my HD2 after few hundreds times flashed ROMs, and now i am on ICS...and still enjoying my HD2 flashing and playing )), but comparing with SG Note, HD2 must be alternative phone
P.S. - We have absolutely the same version of SGN
@turshija and @tanzemyu, I too have identical version to you. Mine was bought from carphone warehouse in UK. At the last OTA upgrade (to 2.3.6 KKA) my phone wasn't rooted at the time, and I got it OTA - but a couple of weeks after the update was announced for carrier-free phones. I think it's therefore likely that CPW are for some reason holding up the OTA upgrade.
When 2.3.6 was out but I hadn't got it OTA, I looked into trying to change my CSC in order to get the OTA update but I found that CPW have put a non-changeable sales code on my phone "CPW" and I don't have the option to change the CSC.
As I'm now rooted I'm going to flash the update myself when I get around to it (as I think you lose root if you do an OTA??) - but IF you also bought from Carphone Warehouse, it's maybe worth you waiting anther week or too just in case an OTA upgrade does eventually arrive (I can't see why it wouldn't?)
Mine is identical. And it's from phones4u.

Light painting in P8 Lite

Hey,
I've got a question - has somebody port the camera app from Chinese firmware? I have android 6.0 on my P8 lite, but light painting was not included. I've tested this option on P8 and i want to have it on my phone
Thanks
Someone posted it once couldn't find it. Would be really thankful too if someone does.
already try it it wont install
you need to flash the chineese firmware to have it
Yes, but i don't want to lose warranty when i install Chinese soft. It's matter what soft i am using?

I guess hypotheticaly you would loose your warranty but you can almost always recover your phone from software issues and only have to send it in for hardware stuff and they most likely wont even realize that youre using chinese software so it doesnt actually matter, but its at your own risk.

I think the reason being, he removed most of the threads hence they are no longer available
I very rarely ask questions and only if i really cannot find the answer. But i think someone has gotten on Sokkoban's nerves. So they are no longer accessible...

P20 Pro 9.0 update? (Canada)

Has anyone got the update
No
No and the word from Huawei Canada support is there is no guarantee our version of the P20 Pro will get it.
Still haven't received any security updates since Sept update (8.1.0.120) on my CLT-L04 C792
Same here, have September 1, 2018 update... 8.1.0.120 with EMUI 8.1. From what I'm reading, seems to be around December 10, give or take a few days.
Honestly its going to take forever for these carriers to test and approve it. I would hedge my bets on January maybe February for the pie update.
What I did was rebrand my p20 pro (does cost a little money around 70-80$ cad) to CLT-L09 and on the November security patch if good software matters to you id spend the money, even though it is stupid to have to essentially pay to have access to the latest software.

I agree. Keep hearing people say they've heard/read starting Dec 10th or Dec 22nd etc.. but they can never provide any proof to back it up. It'll be next year I'm afraid fellas.
C605 have new update 9.0.0.161
Las beta was 9.0.0.112..i think is the final version
I did buy my P20 Pro from Hong Kong, not sure if that will make any difference?
Definitely. Mine is the CLT-L04 model which is intended for North America, including Canada, Mexico, and the U.S., not Hong Kong.

I thought about this but honestly I got extremely confused with the different rebranding versions out there. Can you tell me exactly what you rebranded to? Did you keep the region at C792 or change it to C432? And just out of curiosity why L09 and not L29? I thought L29 was the European version? Or am I just even more confused than I thought lol.

Haven't used this before - did a full download of the OTA package with no idea how to rename to install. Having said that I did run the firmware availability and it said that the firmware is not approved which I'm assuming means I'm going to get an error during the update. Probably because I'm still on locked bootloader it's looking for the carrier branded one.....?

I think we still need to wait a little more to see an OTA.
What provider is it ? And I don't know if we have differents build depending of the carrier.
Is the kernel the exact same version on your phone right now ?
Kernel: [email protected]#1 build on Mon Sept 3 12:03:42 CST 2018 ?

Yup same Kernel. Running 8.1.0.120 C792 with Koodo/Telus. Just had a chat with Ministry of Solutions he said $70 to provide bootloader unlock code and rebrand but I can do everything myself honestly with just the bootloader unlocked.
Get the "firmware is not approved" on my device too.

Uninstalling backup to install the older version of backup doesn't work. It just says I have a newer version, even though backup is uninstalled.

I'm from British Columbia, Canada. I seen a few days ago on the Telus website (phone company here in Canada) that they expected release of EMUI 11 on the 16th of Dec. Obviously didn't happen yet and according to the Telus forums it may still be a long wait for us.
Here is a screen grab to the EMUI 11 schedule with a link to our forum on the P40 Pro if interested.

yeah makes sense we are both from America, we are kinda stuck
I just got this phone through Telus in Canada as well. ELS-N04 with Build Model 10.1.0.148 (C792E7R3P1).
I couldn't find the appropriate firmware either reading all the Googlefier guides and firmware downgrade links.
Have you guys had any further luck?
Also, just curious why the release of EMUI 11 is important? Based on the current methods for getting GMS installed, we need to do this prior to EMUI 11 being loaded, so isn't the release date for it irrelevant?
Thanks in advance.

Question S23 SM-S911U1 stock rom Needed ASAP

Hello I received a Samsung Galaxy S23 from a friend today. He was having problems with the device stuck in a boot loop and unable to get past the Samsung startup screen, so I decided to flash it for him as a failed attempt to help a friend and get some $ in return. The device identifies as a SM-S911U1 , which I am led to believe it is an unlocked US version. Therefore, if there is any OTHER ROM I could flash as long as it should work, I'm willing to ADB and try it out and post results.. thank you in advance.
So he should have sent it to warranty (if he wasn't messing around and cause that).
Currently, the firmware for the S911U1 has not been published

I've successfully flashed it using Odin with a US cellular rom but it shows up now as a "U" deviIce. In other words the modelnow shows in about phone as SM-S911U instead if the original SM-S911U1. I now have the proper file to flash MY device ( he gave it to me for a amazing price as i found out its a demo device and he got it from his job but thats another issue as now i need help fixing the IMEI and seeimg if it even has cellular capabilities ....) my only question right now is if i flash the device with a "U1" file now instead of a "U" file will i brick the phone?? I am curremtly going to attempt it using the file that was told to me about by "realbbb" (thank you BTW!) that is available on frija and see if it bricks the device or if it fixes my cellular issues and activates the modem to use with a SIM card now. Hope all goes well.

Hello and thank you very much for this info. i been busy lately and just was able to come across your post today and am going to try it right now. Also if you would happen to know about the whole 'U' device vs. 'U1" device thing I would greatly apricate it. Also please refer to my previous reply I did to "windows4droid" about me flashing the device and it now showing up as a "SM-S911U Galaxy S23 instead of a "SM-S911U1" device as it had originally been when I first received the phone. Thank you so very much. I'm going to try to flash the phone right now with the file you suggested to me and hope it can revert back to the original model now that it doesn't have the factory live demo mode on it anymore (that's the original reason the device was not working and stuck in a bootloop because my friend had tried to remove the demo mode from the phone and messed it up the first time...) I dont have screen shots of what was originally on the device but this is what is now on it since i flashed it myself. heres some screenshots so yall can see whats going on and whats on the phone currently.

I understand that WWD is a DEMO CSC. Flash U or U1 firmware. I would run with U1.
The missing IMEI's are also an indication of a demo device. Flashing anything other than the original imei is prohibited (be careful) and getting a valid unused imei/imei(esim) will be a pain with a newly released series. Flash a donor imei and/or imei(esim) to use.
Hopefully the demo device is not defective or incomplete.
