Workaround Nougat loop open/Close Apps - Tasker Tips & Tricks

Hi
I need some help:
With previous Android Versions I used a profile for my Navigation App (Sygic) , which turns on GPS and starts a second App in background. The end task was to deactivate GPS and Close the background App.
That worked very well until I updated to Nougat.
Now with Nougat I have the problem that I got a loop when I open Sygic. I think nougat closes an app directly if it is in background, so when I start Sygic the profile starts the background app which is a short time in foreground. Now when automatically switching back to Sygic it starts the tasks again and trys to activate GPS and start the background app again....
So I got a loop...
Anyone with a similar problem or some work around?
For beginning I changed the task and added a shortcut in Tasker which starts both apps (Sygic and background app), and activated GPS. This works well but I am missing the auto close background app and deactivate GPS when closing Sygic...

sorry for the side question, but how do you start an app in the background? and what does/can it do? something like, start music when I open gallery?

It's called Blitzer.de
The app shows speed controls in Germany.
It is startet in widget mode, but there widget is only visible when there is a speed control...

Waze app not working properly on [ROM][4.1.2 JB]Ultimate N7000 XXLSZ JellyBean 4.1.2

kudos for this great rom as I am using it with no problem until i installed Waze.
My issue:
Waze seems to work ok until I click the 'Report' button located bottom right. Whether I go on and report something or simply go back without reporting anything, I end up with a black screen with only the two buttons available. No more map display.
If I tap one of the two buttons, I can see the map (and all wazers or events) displayed in the background of the menu that pops up. But as soon as I get out of the menu, I'm back on that black screen.
Note that only the 'Report' button triggers this problem, if I tap the main button bottom left, I can go back to the map with no pb.
Workaround: Not really. Only exiting the app restores the map.
I also noticed that if I stay on that black screen, my device will shutdown its screen (Waze option to prevent this does not work). As long as I'm seeing the map, it behaves as expected on that topic.
What I tried to fix this (with no luck):
-Removed Waze after wipping data/cache
-Removed remaining files manuallly
-Went to recovery and wiped cache/dalvik +fix permissions
and what does rootbox do? will rootbox fix this?
Up !
Same for me on my international I9505... App new release doesn't fix it... Any chance from xda's brains to find a clue ?
The same version works just fine on my i9300 on 4.1.2...
I have seen this issue is related to hd screens...

I had the same black screen problem when using the report feature. I finally figured out what was causing the problem on my phone. I am using a rooted S4 with multi window manager. The problem occurs when I enable Waze for multi window mode. When disabled, Waze works perfectly.

disable the disable!

Is there a workaround yet to stop Android Auto from disabling the phone.? Once I'm connected to the car I can't see any email notifications (sound/vibrate/LED). It's really irritating and means I have to disconnect my phone every 15 minutes to check email!
Thanks.
Isn't the whole point of AA not to look at your phone every 15 mins while driving ?

You can hit the multi task button and open a recent app. Keep your email client open in recents and check it at stoplights.

That's it! Brilliant thank you. So simple but hadn't tried that. I've now installed the caffeine app which also keeps the screen on permanently when connected to a USB. That way the email notification LED light now works when in Android Auto mode.
Thanks again

Or not. That's kind of the point of Android Auto in the first place is to get people off of messing with their phones while they're driving.
The only solution that I am aware I was to buy an Android Wear watch. All notifications still come through on the watch even when connected to Android Auto.
Press multi task button then press home, quickly select app or open app drawer.
I use this method with Note 4

After reading this I also installed Caffeine, it was the perfect app I was looking for to prevent my screen from turning off.
I enabled my email on Android auto unit, and I receive email notification on that..

Hello and sorry for reviving such an old thread.
I have used for some time the trick suggested by @ireknole with a phone having hard buttons. My new phone, however, has soft buttons and Android Auto disables on purpose the multi-task button. (Mate 10 Pro, Android 8.0).
I have no other option left now to check my phone while AA is connected to the car and running. I need to check the phone for searching for a song or my wife needs to change the song while i'm driving - plus search the internet or whatever else she feels like on long roadtrips.
However, I can still access the notifications drawer and all the shortcut buttons found there (i did not give AA permission to draw over other applications).
Does anybody know:
1) How to place a custom button in the notifications drawer which specifically does that: activate multi-task function or any other function to just put AA in background and allow me to access other apps?
2) How to forbid AA to disable my multi-task button in the first place?
Thank you!

I haven't found a way to get the multitask button to reshow, but I have a built in app on my Samsung S8 that allows me to swipe from the edge of the phone and select the "shortcut" "recent apps" that acts like the multitask button. There may be an app that's similar in the play store that lets you open it with a swipe and map a "recent apps" shortcut as an option.

another way is to install AAWidget. it display a widget on your Android auto screen.
but this only work for AA2.9 since google disable third party apk in AA3.0
AA widget will list down mails, whatapps messages etc as long as theres widget for those apk.
make a clone and aawidget and you can havemultiple widget to read your email/whatsapp etc
but you cant read full email or messages if the email or messages too long. just good enough to check what are the incoming email/messages
Thank you for your answers!
I did not try your solutions because in the meanwhile I found a way to gain complete control over my phone using Tasker.
For anyone interested, create a new profile in Tasker, set the trigger to Apps->Android Auto and the task to "Go home".
What this setup achieves is showing the home screen whenever AA tries to pop up on screen, which solves all the problems
I can use my phone as if AA was not running at all, while AA is completely functional on the car's screen.
I use AA 2.9.57xxxx.
If you are on Nougat you can add a custom tile using the regular android api to launche the home launcher activity. But please don't post any source code or ready to use apk somewhere. This should be something for the "pros" if its too easy to use they come up with a way to block the notification drawer

Thank you! I will also try this approach when I'll have a few hours, as I have some Android development background

I just started using AA on my Nexus 5X running 8.1. AA hides the multi-task button, but if you swipe up from the bottom of the screen; the buttons re-appear for a few seconds and you can select it again.
My problem is that AA sets the screen timeout to 15 sec. So when I pull over to check/write an email; the screen constantly shuts off. The Nexus 5X is no longer a "fast" phone, so starting OWA (outlook) takes more than 15 sec. I've gone into the phone settings after connecting the phone and changing it back to 2 min., but this setting will re-set the next time I plug the phone in again.
Latest version and the version before it (3.1 is latest, can't remember exactly what the previous version is) has changed this.. you can now just swipe up on the phone and access it normally when it's connected to Android auto.

Notable app on Emui 5

Hi everybody
is anyone using the Notable app (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.icechen1.notable) on Nougat?
It is a neat reminder app that allows you to take quick notes that sit in the notification panel, which is very convenient as you have a constant notification icon reminding you and you can access the note-notification from anywhere.
Anyway I have a problem with it:
I think I set all options not to have it closed on sleep (in phone management and in the app settings), but still sometimes when I wake up the phone the notification has disappeared.
I get it back as soon as I reopen the app, but obviously, it being a reminder app, having to relaunch it every while makes it kind of useless.
Do you have any suggestion?
Either for a solution or for a similar app that I can try.
Thank you

Background app GPS recorder getting killed, howto keep it running?

Hi
My P20Pro has latest firmware and I did set battery to manage the apps manually and keep them running in background, power saving mode is off.
But it does not change anything.
e.g. app Mapillary, which takes a picture every second, is killed after 20 sec
or oruxmaps to record a gps track, is killed after 1 min max, no gps track on device.
Anyone knows a way howto run a gps logger in background all the time without the need to keep the display on with this "no display off" apps?

Having similar issue with Strava tracker. Latest EMUI version 8.1.0.131.
Tracking is killed after aprox 3 km of bike ride and it's unable to use tracking app. Not sure what is reason but I suspect Huawei to be killing that app without proper reason.
Already tried all settings, nothing helped yet

Edit: I found one setting which looks promising: Settings > Apps & Notifications > Apps > Settings (bottom menu) > Special Access > Ignore Battery optimizations > STRAVA (Or your tracking app) > "Allow"
Going to test this setting tomorrow.

New flow on Android 11 Note20Ultra

Hi.
I am currently using the automagic app on note20ultra with android Q. Unfortunately the app is not supported for android R. So I have a question about Tasker. I have a few done flows and I don't know if I can do it in Tasker too. Here is a list of flows:
1. by clicking on the icon on the desktop, the list of applications and the specific application are launched. Then the application options are selected. Here you will probably need a touch simulation feature.
2. Removing top notification bar notifications from specific applications.
3. A desktop shortcut that cleans up the recent app and locks the screen together with the greenify sleep app.
4. Transferring files downloaded from Firefox to an external memory card.
5. Launching GoogleMap and turning on the GPS. Disabling GPS when closing the application.
Please help to learn Tasker.
