[solution found] huawei honor note 8, missing option to add additional google account - Huawei Honor Note 8 Guides, News, & Discussion

Got a new honor 8 phone today and encountered a problem when adding an additional google account. The problem is when you go to 'Settings > Accounts > Add account', Google is not one of the listed options. So I searched around on the internet and found out that I can add the additional accounts by
1. downloading the 'google account manager 6.0.1'
2. use 'QuickshortcutMaker' to manually execute 'Google Account Manager - Type Email and Password'
3. click on the dot dot dot at the upper right and web sign in with you google account
4. additional google account is added.
Just want to post this solution or work around here for other people to use. It took me a while and some effort to try different hacks I found online, and tried them out one by one. Hopefully this will save you sometime.
I got this work around from someone's youtube video if you want to watch how to perform this workaround in action: https:// goo.gl / 7T7gWH He is making the video for some other purpose, but his solution will also fix this problem.

Facebook API Guru needed...

I am working very hard on a new type of service that ties in to facebook and mobile apps.
I have it working at about 90% with an Android game app, but it appears that there are some issues that I can't seem to get answered. Is there anyone here that knows the facebook API very well that might be able to answer some questions for me regarding conecting my facebook App, with my web framework, and my mobile apps? WinMo guys will be helpful too as we are planning on making this service crossplatform to all phones except the crapples.
Thanks!!!
no love? or nobody here familiar with facebook?
Recently I answered a question on MSDN winmo forums c/p;
I'm not using FaceBook (FB), but a good friend is. She asked me to look into it as she too is having issues with FB obtained from Microsoft Marketplace. I have a T-Mobile MDA Compact V cq HCT Diamond 2 cd Topaz cq Pure .
First I looked at the FB provided by Microsoft and tested it in a virtual embedded environment, as I did with all FB's tested. And I too had several 'issues' all different with several PPC based FB alternatives. Then I went to Facebook Developer site(!) and did some reading, then I found out that any FaceBook application needs API Key , Application Secret , and Application ID .

Setup the Facebook Application - Part 1, on Facebook.com
The following steps assume you have a Facebook account.
• Go to http://www.facebook.com/developers/createapp.php .
• If asked to login, use your Facebook login. If you haven’t created an application before, you will be asked to grant Facebook Application access to your Facebook account. You have to allow this in order for this process to work.
• Facebook will ask you for the Application Name that you want to use. This is a short human-readable name. It will be viewable to those who are allowed to visit your Facebook account so make it simple and clear.
• Agree to the terms and click Save Changes. Note: The next page that appears will contain three pieces of information that you will need for your Drupal FB Application: API Key, Application Secret, and Application ID. You will copy and paste this information into the applicable fields when creating your Drupal FB Application.
Canvas Page-specific Setup
Not necessary for Facebook Connect-only applications.
• Click on canvas in the left menu of your Facebook application screen. At the top of the screen that appears next, fill in the URL field. Keep the URL simple and descriptive. Formatting restrictions are provided on the screen. Please read them.
:END
My facebook http://www.google.com searches ;
(copy/paste from left to right (not up down) in your preferred search engine (remember that search engines interpret commands in CAPITALS))
facebook AND configure AND "give the application access"
facebook AND configure AND "application access"
"this key identifies your application to facebook"
"you pass it with all your api calls" AND facebook
"configure access control policies" AND facebook
"third-party Integration modules" AND facebook
:END
Currently my friend is using some beta version from another developer and still has some issues, found in the first google search string. Though for her they are only minor issues for which she wants to use her laptop anyway.
I hope these links help you. I'm gonna move to a next subject now

Also a heads up Facebook just changed there API not to long ago as well should be a lot better.

[Q] Failed to add google account

I was happy with the NF, and added all the gApps after installing it. It worked fine. However the contact.apk was missing, so I reinstalled NF using CWR.
After that the contacts was back but since then I can't add google account after gApps are added. The "can't establish a reliable data connection to the server" error showed up every time.
I tried to reinstall NF, back to stock 1.0.1 and NF again, changing the time, delete settings.db, or even the YouTube trick. All of them don't work.
Any suggestions to solve it?
*update*: Youtube trick worked:
1. Go to youtube.com and sign up for a new account, using the email address you want to add to your phone
2. Open the YouTube application on your Adroid phone, sign out of your account if you're currently signed in (menu button -> sign out)
3. Sign in-menu button-my account, log in with your EMAIL ADDRESS (not your YouTube username)
4. Now You're all done - you can sign out of the account in the YouTube app again if desired. Go to Settings-Accounts and you should see your account in the list.

Market is not working anyway...
Getting the same error after installing Nookie Froyo v0.6.7 to SD, and adding the Gapps (per the nookdevs.com wiki), try to add account/Google results in "can't establish a reliable data connection to the server"
I can surf web, use the Facebook and Youtube apps.
Google's Blunder
Search google for can't establish reliable data connection change the options to 'latest' and it looks like this one's on google. I just flashed my firmware for my elocity a7 and got the same error all last night and this morning when trying to sync my google account. Hold fast, daylight will break soon. . .
update:
The YouTube worked when I try to add "@gmail.com" after my username.
However, the Market gives me a "A Server error has occurred. Retry, or cancel and return to the previous screen." error message and I can't get in. Contacts and Gmail is now working though.
Im having the same issue.
Picked up my Nook Color yesturday evening, I've booted Honeycomb off the SD card and then used HoneyGApps.v2 to install Market and a bunch of other apps.
However I get the following error when attempting to add my Google Account:
"Cannot Establish a Reliable Data Connection"
Tried a few things like clearing app cache and rebooting but I can get around this issue.
Anyone have any ideas for what I could try? Im connected to a strong wifi connection so its not a connectivity issue, I can browse the net no problem.
Signing into Youtube with your gmail account username/password gets you logged in, but it looks like a Google network server is down now, so still no Market access
It's Google's problem after all?
I used a WHOLE DAY trying to fix it...(censored)
you sure it's Google's server down?

I opened the Youtube app and tried to sign in.
Even though I haven't "setup" a youtube account before... I used my Gmail address I was trying to add to my Nook. Youtube signed me in.
I went back to Settings -> accounts -> Accounts & Sync.. it gave me a black screen that was there for about 20 seconds. Then I got the "add account" screen with my GOOGLE account listed. When I opened it, it had nothing listed. Then, Calendar showed up. As I sat there, Picassa Web Albums, contacts and Gmail later appeared and started synching.
The sync of those items took about 20 minutes. (I did uncheck picassa).
Trying to open Market, I now get "a service error has occured" so I tried...
Code:
Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications -> All -> Market
Clear Cache then Force Stop -- DO NOT clear data
Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications -> All -> Google Services Framework
Clear data then Force Stop
Reboot
It didn't help.
Also, I notice my browser seems a little slow, and while the facebook app runs, it takes a bit to load up... And when I launch the Gmail app, it shows about have the screen worth of mail, but I see the "loading conversations" at the bottom of the screen for about 5 or more seconds
I just turned my Nook on this morning to find that I can now add my Google account and open the Market. (Morning being 7.50am UK Time).
Must have been a glitch or a few reboots required....
@dhumpherson, what issue did you have previously with adding your account? Was it after you click ont he android robot (right at first screen) and attempt to enter your gmail account? That is where i cannot have success. I did enter into gmail before rooting, and i've read that may be an issue and i need to get rid of the data saved from that login, but i haven't located instructions yet for that.
If you had been unable to login at that initial screen but found an answer please let me know what you did. *If i enter an incorrect password the continue interface will tell me this, so it knows i'm entering the correct one when i do, but it just returns me to the login page, after the display blinks.

Issues with addind my google account with CyanogenMod 6.1.2 - 0.12

Hi All! I've just flashed my mileston with the abovementioned rom. And i just love it!
The only (kinda big) issue I've encountered is that I just can't add my google account. At the first run of the rom, there's no manu that guides me thru and aks me to add my google account. Also by going to Settings-->Accounts and sync, when I try to add my google account it redirects me to the standard email account adding menu, asking me to add an exchange email account.
Even by opening the Market, it says that I have to add a google account but then I choose add it and the market crashes and I go back to my Home menu.
Anyone can help me?! thanks a lot!

[Q] Logging out of Play Store

Hi,
I was doing a favour for someone who asked me to root their Kindle and install the Play Store.
I did this and I tested it with my own gmail account and everything is working perfect. However, now I want to give them back their tablet, but I can't see where I can remove my account/logout from the Play Store. Obviously, giving them back the tablet with my account logged in is out of the question.
I tried going into Applications and clearing the app's data. I also tried wiping the data in Titanium Backup. Neither worked.
Can anyone help me here?
Thanks.
Do you have 2-Step Verification enabled in your Gmail account? You could try revoking access to the device from your account management page I think.
No, I don't have 2 step verification.
Would it be worth my time to enable it just so this persons Play Store won't log me in? Surely there must be a way I can remove the Play Store, reinstall it, and let them log in?
When I was installing it initially, the steps told me to log in, and then continue with further steps where it upgrades the Play Store to the latest version and does some other stuff. If I could delay those steps, or put them into a shell script to be run from the terminal once this person logged in, then I suppose that would be good too.
Thanks.
Had this problem on a cheap tablet that I got play store on for a friend, add another account (theirs) then you can remove yours

Hi,
Thanks but that doesnt work either. The problem is that the actual "Accounts and Sync" menu isnt in the settings. The only indication I have of my account is in the Play Store app, when you go into Menu and Accounts. Its related to the locked down version of the Kindle OS I think.
It looks like I might have to wipe the whole tablet and put on a custom ROM.
Actually. I think I figured out a way of doing this.
I had my gmail account setup to use the Play Store, and had Gmail synced apparently. Then I added a second account but I hadnt opened the Gmail app yet. When I did, it asked me to setup sync for my second account since it was the first time I'd opened Gmail since I added the 2nd one. This gives a link to the default Android "Accounts & Sync" menu, in the form of a button at the bottom of the app.
I was able to go in there and delete my 2 accounts. So it seems we can get into the Accounts menu through a back door in Gmail!
PS, I tried it again to add the 2 accounts and make sure I could reproduce it, but it just went to my Gmail inbox and showed me my emails for my first account. Then I pressed the drop down menu up the top left of the app and it showed my 2 inboxes. I clicked the 2nd one and it then gave me the sync menu buttons again and I could reproduce it, ie delete both my accounts.
Now if only I could get the menu/nav bar to stay on when I don't unlock it straight away after a reboot, then I'd be done!
How did you you added a second account?
Hi, I'm exactly in this same situation.

Did you try the Google account from the settings menu. Tap on Google account then account name then remove. Then add new account.

Possible fix
When I downloaded Google Play onto my fire 10 HD I downloaded 4 apk (Google services framework, Google play services, Google account manager and Google play store)
Once I'd done that I mistakenly logged into Play on the wrong account.
When I went back to the home screen there was a 'Google setting' app icon there.
I tapped that icon and went to 'Google Account - info, security & personalisation', from there if you tap the small arrow at the end of the email address it gives you the option to use another account.
I added the other account and am now able to switch between email accounts.
Hope that helps.

This is quite easy and a two-minute task:
Open Plyastore on your PC/Laptop
Sign in to the play store using the same Gmail ID you want to remove from any device.
Once signed in Navigate to the setting by clicking on the Gear icon on the upper right corner of the screen.
Here you will find all the devices connected to your account.
Simply click and remove the device.
This will help you to remove the device or logout of the play store remotely.
This is the easiest and most effective way.
As @eoinzy & @Chotkach mentioned (Thank you)
1. Install Gmail app (Don't question it. Just do it)
Go to setting.
Manage account and here you can easily remove Play Store information.

Workaround for MS Intune Company Portal/Outlook with Huawei P40 Pro

Due to my company's policy, we need to register the mobile phones using MS Intune Company Portal and can use only Outlook app for the official mails and calendar. Both these apps can be downloaded via Aurora Store but the registration of the device fails due to the Google Play Protect check during the enrollment of the device. The 2nd step during enrollment fails with an error message regarding the network connection or something similar. After struggling with this for almost a week, I finally found some workarounds. Hope this is useful for someone.
For Mails:
I use Blue Mail for all my other mails and was using this with my official mails (Office 365) as well, till about a year ago when the company admins introduced a strict check of Outlook app with Intune Portal as the only way to receive the official mails. Since then I had been using both the MS apps for my official mails in my previous Samsung phone. But this stopped working after I moved over to Huawei due to the GPP check mentioned above. Here's the workaround for it:
This will work only if you have web access to your official emails i.e. you are able to use the a broswer to check your official emails.
In Blue Mail, add new account (instead of using Office 365, use Exchange).
Enter full email address and password.
Check Automatic.
Uncheck ActiveSync. Click Next.
For the Exchange Server setting, use the exchange server URL being used by your company. Typically, it is the 1st 3 in the url of your web access to the outlook email. In a lot of cases, this would be outlook.office365.com
Security - SSL/TLS.
If you see a dropdown Access Type, select EWS (Exchange Web Services). Do not select Automatic or ActiveSync.
That should work. The office365 outlook emails should be visible in Blue Mail. The calendar is not synced with this workaround. The needs a different route in.
For Calendar:
I use Google Calendar for all my other activities and so I wanted to add my outlook entries to GCal to have them all in one place.
The easiest way is to publish your calendar from Outlook Office 365 and import it as a URL in GCal.
Steps:
Go to the web view of your outlook.
Click on the Settings icon.
Click "View All Outlook Settings".
Go to Calendars->Shared Calendars.
Click on the ICS Link and click "Copy Link".
This can now be imported in the google calendar as a separate new calendar but the issue is that any updates to your outlook calendar are synced 1-2 times a day only. If that is fine go ahead and import it. I wanted the sync to happen every 5-10 min.
For this, you can use the GAS-ICS-Sync script from GitHub (https://github.com/derekantrican/GAS-ICS-Sync)
Follow the installation and run instructions on the site. You can configure how often the calendar should sync etc in the code.gs file.
Hope this helps someone

Yes. Outlook works without issues for google, yahoo, hotmail, live etc. The post was for people trying to configure their official office365 outlook emails e.g. [email protected]
Hi all,
I was using my Huawei P40 lite with my company's Intune app and everything was working perfectly fine.
A few days ago, it seems like Intune underwent a major update, and it now requires Google Mobile Services and Google Play Store to download the apps and securize corporate data. It would also now duplicate all apps on your phone's to create a pro environment separated from the normal private environment. Hence now all apps used for pro and private purpose should be duplicated (pro securized outlook app VS private outlook for private mails / one securized google Play store to download a limited set of certified pro apps VS the complete Google play store for private use.
Since my company is forcing to update to the new Intune, looks like the enrollment will fail in Intune on P40 phone with GMS ban. I get the process started, but it will freeze after a few steps, probably when trying setup the Pro environment and installing the Pro Google Play Store on the phone...
- Do you know if this new version of Intune with Google Play Store to securize the company's apps and data is standard or only tailored for my company ?
- If standard, is there any workaround for phones without GMS, or is Huawei/Microsoft working on an alternative for Huawei's P40s ?
I have not found anything so far and I just dont feel like changing to another phone.
Thanks very much for your time.

I was exactly in your situation and stuck at the same place as you mention, that is why I posted the above workaround. You don't need Intune Portal or Outlook if you follow the steps in my post. The only precondtion being that you have access to your web outlook mails through a browser. For now, this is what is working for me. I'm hoping MS and Huawei will work out a permanent solution soon, but haven't heard anything specific regarding this.
My wife's company also uses Intune. She can't complete the setup. Somewhere in the last step, the setup freezes on some "getting company resources" or something. She submitted a ticket to their IT department but for now there is zero activity over there. I guess this requirement for the GMS is breaking everything. :/ I will try your suggestion, I hope it works. Thanks for the hints.

Thanks Lazerbourne.
I havent tried yet. But i cannot access my company's email login to outlook.com from a non-corporate PC. It says my company does not allow.
I learned a bit more about this issue. Turns out it is not only about having Google Mobile Services on your phone or not. Actually Intune now provides the option to the admins to to block Android enrollments by device manufacturer. My company is British, they apprently blocked Huawei devices in their settings... you got the story... so dumb... Not sure something can be done until politics get back to normal.

Exactly!! Mine too had blocked access to Huawei devices in the enrollments that is what was preventing the access. The web access though works from any OS and browser so the above workaround should work for you (presuming the admins have allowed the access to outlook web mail. This too can be blocked in the config settings of the mail server but most companies allow it since it doesn't store anything locally on the phones). Give it a go and see if it works for you.

Hi again,
To report back - I was able to set the BlueMail emails using your method. The only thing I was having as a problem was that there were no notifications on new email. I had to switch from "Push" to "fetch on some interval" and the phone started getting the notifications. I excluded the app from all battery things but the "Push" method didn't work. :/ If you have some hints it would be great - I am not sure does this fetch method on 3 mins impact battery so much? If not then let it be.
I haven't still tried the solution for the calendar but I have to try it soon.
P.S.
My wife's P40 Pro is HMS+microg setup.
Thanks again for your insights.

I haven't still tried the solution for the calendar but I have to try it soon.
P.S.
My wife's P40 Pro is HMS+microg setup.
Thanks again for your insights.

Fantastic!! :good:
I would suggest to leave the Fetch on for a day and see how the battery is impacted. The Fetch normally wakes the app in the background and sends a fetch request to the mail server. Theoretically, it shouldn't be a big battery drain.
For my phone, the push notifications are working fine since I'm using the Freeze GSF method (with GMS) to get the notifications working for all the apps. My config HMS+GMS+Frozen GSF.
I've read about conflict issues if you have microG and GMS together on the same phone, so this method may not work for you.
If in the future, you decide to reset the phone, then give it (HMS+GMS+Frozen GSF) a try. That way, all the apps are updated via Aurora Store+Huawei Store, all the notifications and location services for all the apps are working fine. All Huawei updates and Google Play Services updates too work.

Hope this is useful for someone....

Tried as per this method. Via EWS the error is "Cannot connect to the server". With ActiveSync it works but downloads just one message saying I must enroll via Portal. ..
I have installed Intune Portal. For that, I needed to downgrade my firmware to .131, install googlefier as per the instructions, upgrade the firmware once again to .157, periodically suppressing series of annoying notifications "Your device is not certified for Play Protect, Google services will not run" (despite I have registered my GWS Device ID with this account and disabled all notifications from Play market already!).
Now Google Services work moreless OK (Play Market works, so do all apps, but the annoying messages keep popping up).
But then Intune only able to create work profile, when going to "Activate your profile" step it generates a lot of "Device not certified for Play Protect" and then finally says "Could not connect to the server, network may be down" etc. No certificate is created on server, nothing. After that, Intune disables itself.
UPDATE: Here Microsoft writes something on the matter. I understand the problem is driven by some specific corporate policies configured in a way to rely on GMS (whilst it can potentially be also delivered without them). Will check with admins if this can be amended somehow.

@schtirtliz - That is correct. Its due to the reliance on GMS which in some ways is mitigated by using the sideloaded GMS (using Googlify etc.). The main problem is with the Google Play Protect for which there is no workaround yet. Updating the policies on the main server is an option, another could be to ask the admins to enable the web access (EWS). EWS will sooner or later be made obsolete so this workaround may not last too long. Hopefully by then MS would have figured out a way

Admins won't change the policy I am receiving some reassuring comments on other forums, from people who managed to get it working with some instructions like this

But nothing worked for me yet...

Update. I have managed to install GMS with another instructions from here https://youtu.be/XvFQkavPZnk
All apps work perfectly now, no errors.
However, Intune still does not work. Once it creates work profile, it clones all Google stuff into it, and immediately new "badged" version of Google Play starts to generate same Play Protect errors and block further progress (unbadged one keeps working well).
Is there any way to sideload and install "GMS fix.apk" under work profile? Maybe via adb etc.? I tried but it says no access to shell... how does that cloning process work, why does it clone some unpatched version rather than taking patched one from the system files?
Thanks!
I doubt that would work since the Work profile is created to prevent exactly this i.e. installing patched apks or using root hiding apps for rooted devices.
Got this to work, but does anyone know how I can det up shared inbox? Its easy in Outlook, but cant see how in blue ?

Do you mean Unified Inbox? Click on the top left icon of the app, you'll see the Unified Inbox and also the individual mail boxes.
Enable Play Protect

Hi, please, did you manage to enable the Google Protect?
Thanks!
I managed to get both email and calendar using "Nine - Email & Calendar" from Play Store. I'm using gsf freeze, and also have Vanced microG installed. Installed GMS this summer, don't use googlify. Only hoping it will last..
Used the settings from first post:
-full email ([email protected], CN = Common Name from AD), not my [email protected]
- Exchange Server instead of Office 365
- SSL/TLS
Did not have a choice to uncheck ActiveSync, so this is checked.
