[Tutorial] Fix crashing System-UI Substratum Theme (or any other Crash relating to Su - Android Themes

THIS IS MY FIRST TUTORIAL IF YOU ENCOUNTER ANY PROBLEM FEEL FREE TO PM ME OR POST ON THIS THREAT
Recently I've been encountering one Issue (apart from that it is an awesome Theme Engine) when I install a certain Theme my System-UI crashes even after a Reboot and therefore I've made this little tutorial for this who encounter the same or similar.
*Requirements*
A custom Recovery with a File manager build in or
Aroma File manager (LINK HERE!)
*Tutorial*
First you need to boot into your recovery and navigate to /data/app
Then just search for the theme you tried to apply (but it crashed your System-UI) and search for the folder with the System-UI Com name for Example for the Theme DNAdark it would be the folder : com.android.systemui.DNADark-1 and com.android.systemui.DNADark.Infected-1 and delete them and reboot and your Phone should be working now but if you want to completely remove the Theme then just remove all Folders related to the theme
The most Com folders for Substratum are like this :
com.android.XXXXXX.YYYYYY.Y
X = Application Name
Y=Theme Name or Developer Name

Worked well! Thanks

Thanks!! Worked!!!

Found this thread while googling for an answer. Another solution I found was in TWRP, go to data/system/ and delete overlays.xml
Edit: here's the video, I can't understand a thing this guy is saying lol

As far as I know it you shouldn't have any problems but if you are on Touchwiz you may need to buy the substratum Samsung add-on in order to be able to use Substratum on Touchwiz.

I have s8 custom rom on Samsungs 7 rooted will it possible to get it

I think so you, just need Android Nougat and it should work.

well thats working perfectly, thanks bro, i am about to do a factory reset.

Don't need a factory reset, go to settings, system ui, nav bar and just change to a different setting and go back to your previous settings and that fixed it for me

Hi,
I'm not able to apply any substratum theme in my mobile running on Android oreo...
Substratum keeps getting crashes while applying theme and gives option to rescue and logcat...
Please help me.

Hi. I've tried to apply dna theme by substratum and then my interface just died. What can I do now if I don't have root, any recovery... Nothing.
I have brand new Samsung galaxy s8, oreo 8.0
I've tried with factory reset but I can't even switch my phone off...

Thanks for this, helped a lot

[Q] Can't reboot after xposed framework installation!

Hello dudes, I currently use the MIUI V4 ICS 3.22 rom on my galaxy mini. Yesterday I have installed an app called greenify. I wanted to use the hole features of the app so I have installed the Xposed Framework. But after the restart my device is stopping rebooting at the bootanimation. With the deactivation zip on my sd card I could uninstall the framework. How can I bring the framework to work?
Thanks in advance!

Xposed is not compatible with any MIUI ROM and it will never ever be. At least not fully.
Your phone boots on recovery?

If you have made nanroid backup wipe factory data / partition then format /system /data / cache and restore your backup or flash any rom.

Dude!
Should have read the installation instructions beforehand
The Xposed framework is not compatible with miui
Now the only way out, according to me, is by restoring the file system through a nandroid backup.
I'm sorry but no one can help you in any other way.
Not being rude but dude read the whole post before installing anything in your phone.
Other than that I should however tell you that greenery without xposed also works great. Believe me I have used it and still use it.

before you re-flash the whole rom, check if there's an uninstall recovery zip (it should be on your sd)
@TARUN SIDHARTH is "greenery" a different app or you simply use greenify without xposed?!? is it possible to greenify system apps (with a donate version of course)?

Greenery is a standalone app which works great and does exactly what it offers. The xposed framework just empowers it a bit more and makes it a bit more efficient. But even then Its not necessary that you have to install xposed framework for it to work its magic.
And yes to answer your other question you can greenify system apps with it although that's only available in the donate version.
He sure however that you are careful doing that since greenifying the wrong stood can make your system unstable or cause other problems that may interfere in is optimum functioning.

amazing! think i tried almost every possible auto-start blocking app (autostarts, auto-this-and-that, various managers) and none have had a lot of success with the stuff i wish to block (possibly without total disabling and/or freezing (with TiB)
my google magic failed and all i could find was gardening and themeing apps
can you please provide us with the link or pm me some other details

Details details... Lemme see what more there is to know
Oh yeah umm.. Most of the startup managers for Android are full of crap... The play store ones atleast coz the Google developers policy doesn't allow such apps which actually work really well in this context... Still don't know how they decide that though. Well whatever if you had xposed then it could have been possible. But even then install gsam battery monitor and note the apps which consume the most system resources. Greenify them if you wish to and then they'll open/consume system resources only when they are active ie you are using them in real time.
That's all I guess

xposed framework + gravity installation on stock rom

Anyone has a foolproof guide to install xposed framework on a stock rom?
I tried the normal installation but it doesnt work(resources subclass), should i try flashing it through twrp recovery?
P.s. i have full root and i am on 133sp01 official.
No way at this moment to full use xposed because isn't compatible with Huawei ROMs. It crashing HW launcher.
To solving it you should disabled resources hooks but some modules want it to properly working.
2.5.1 and lower versions allowing to enable hooks but still launcher is crashing.

Normall installation or flash with twrp?
to me if I work well:
*
Having eliminated the set-immutablelist
*
Xposed framework version 2.5. dl.xposed.info/modules/de.robv.android.xposed.installer_v28_8b8a7e.apk (not let me put Link)
*
Once you have installer Xposed Installer, select Framework, you click Install / Update and then restart the phone.
*
After restarting really in Framework already have Active 50 and 46 as well as Included.
*
Now if you are looking for the download and GravityBox (KK) version 2.9.0, download and install.
*
Remember that each downloaded module must be activated in modules and restart.
*
And other modules. If you are interested in Greenify and Intelli3G you the download Play and then install and active in modules.
a greeting

If you want to hide the navbar use GMD auto hide from the store, its not perfect but it works.
Why do you want to change the navbar size Its fine as it is.
Also it seemed skimming through the thread you are willing to introduce more bugs and issues into the system and potentially brick your device just to get these 2 features? Don't risk more issues your phone for a few minor visual tweaks learn to live with what you have.

[Q] i confused!!! install but not active

I'm changing the settings of status bar but require exposed framework so I install framework and then i open status bar app but not work.
During xposed log say: Errors during Xposed initialization
So what I do?

I really hope this isn't it... But I have to ask... you DID reboot after installing xposed and then reboot after enabling the module correct?
If not, then do that.

Custom ROM with themes?
HI!
Does your ROM includes a theme system? If so, that's the cause...
I've been looking for an answer too and I found this thred at GitHub. I haven't post much so I have no rights to post URLs as links for now... Please copy paste the following link:
PHP:
https://github.com/rovo89/XposedInstaller/issues/178
There we can read the following:
rovo89 commented on 19 may 2014 said:
ok, that's it then. Some roms have theming engines that conflict with xposed. I'm looking for solutions, but meanwhile, please use the "disable resources api" setting in the installer. You might not be able to use some modules, but most should still work.

Doing so enables Xposed and that rebooting red message dissapears. However many modules are not functional if this adjustment is set in the configuration, so it's useless...
As far as I understand, there is no fix forthat issue then. So you can try another ROM with no themes system.
I hope this has been helpful for you =)
Uninstall xposed installer apk, install xposed installer apk, reboot.
you DID reboot after installing xposed
Hello
framework should be installed manually i think

[Q] How to have theme like z3

Hi there, I have XSP pure stock .205, what I need to do to have themes like Z3 with new battery icon on status bar(notification bar) and new navigation bar? I found some themes on market but it said it needs to be rooted, so Its all i got to do, just root my SP and install that themes and it will look like i have KK with all that good looking icons? Thanks.

To root my SP on stock I use towelroot (download tr.apk from official website by clicking on logo). It's one click et voila, root! Then you can install these other things sure! Xposed is a little more difficult, but there would be tutorials that are very well explained how to do it I don't know how to port xposed to your device, but there are many stock roms who have it pre-installed!
Hope I helped you

Hide Magisk and Substratum Theming

I had to hide my Magisk install and now I lost the ability to theme the app. Is there a work around? It's not a big deal but I tried figuring it out on my own to no avail.

Can that be done within substratum or is something else required?
Curious about this as well, almost made my own thread but glad you posted this. I haven't hidden the magisk manager yet with a random package name because I suspected this would happen, but may need to do it for one of my apps to work properly.

You'd need to use android studio and decrypt the theme resources, uh basically you aren't getting it done without some effort.
