Note 4 Nougat Petition - Galaxy Note 4 General

Hello Note 4 users and lovers.
I've created a petition for official note 4 Nougat update.
Please sign and share if you can.
Thanks

Petition only applies to users of F version. Why does not include C version users?

Dude, we're still getting monthly security updates and we should be thankful for that. If you want the latest and greatest Android version, upgrade your phone. Note 4 is old, it's acceptable if it doesn't received Nougat.

Your petition is biased.
Why not SM-N910 to make it general?
Anyway I'm of the opinion that since the phone was released in October 2014, it should be updated to Nougat because its two-year OS eligibility falls within the time Nougat was officially released by Google.

Not to mention we would have a Note7 by now if Samsung hadn't messed it up. But I agree, the petition is not inclusive for all models .

I only said that I have the F version. I didn't said that only that version deserved the update.

I agree completely, it should be N910 in general but I saw the OP reply below and he is correct that the petition he wrote it just stating his model and not to get nougat only for the F model. I also agree with the second point and have been sort of annoyed with Samsung for this, it's supposed to be 2 year OS update so as mentioned, Oct. 2014 for Note 4 launch and since Nougat came out in August 2016 we should have it. Add to that, a lot of us Note 4 owners bought, and ultimately lost, the Note 7's thanks to Samsung and as a gesture to sort of make up for that they should have added the Note 4 to the Nougat release.
Anyway going slightly off topic;
I love my Note 4 but am ready for a new device. Personally, I love the s-pen and hate to give it up but if the pricing rumors hold true and the conversion to Canadian is somewhat accurate it would be in the $1300 range (give or take) for the S8 so Note 8 would likely be in the same price range. No way will I accept those prices but I will wait and see with the S8 info that comes later today and decide from there. The Note 7 was $1050 CDN, I won't support Samsung if the Note 8 is anything above MAX $1100 CDN and less than 64GB storage (and better have expandable) as that is expensive enough as it is and pushing it IMO.
I'm waiting to see the OnePlus 5 later this year and will likely buy that if Samsung starts going to ridiculous Apple prices. Google also lost me after the Pixel phones being ridiculously overpriced as well. I mean, they want more for the Pixel XL than Samsung wanted for the Note 7... WTF Google?!? That's like LG and HTC thinking they can price at the same range as Samsung as well when they have so little to offer or reason to buy over Samsung and especially over some of these new phones from OnePlus, Huawei, etc... but $1180 for 128GB Pixel XL/$1050 for 32GB Pixel XL compared to $1050 for 64GB Note 7 and well the Note 7 was the far better deal, and phone.
Anyway, that's my rant/2 cents lol.

As long as you are all in signing mode, here is a petition where you can state all you want in the Note8

When will we get Android 7.0 Nougat?

So Nougat is released. My guess is it'll take more than 1 YEAR for us to taste Nougat on Note 5. The only reason Sammy sucks.
And cuz we have Exynos no third-party ROMs too:/
I don't know where are you from but on earth Samsung delivered MM to note 5 in 5 months after release date.
I am hoping they will take around 6 months this time as this is no more the latest device.

I think they will try to keep customers satisfied so they will deliver als because there is almost no developement needed for port note 7,5 s7 share same specs
or they will deliver very lately to compensate for the money they lost x)

What device did you upgrade to after your Nexus 6?

What device did you upgrade to?
Any suggestions for devices that are affordable upgrades to the Nexus 6?
--
I'm looking for a new phone and I need some suggestions.
Looking for a smaller screen with a Snapdragon 820, 821, 835 CPU and an amazing camera. Front facing stereo speakers would be nice to have but they seem uncommon. Must have MicroSD card slot.
Needs to also have a rooting method and a slightly active xda presence.
Since the Nexus 6 was released in 2014, I'm looking at phones from 2016 and early 2017 for an affordable upgrade. Phones like Galaxy S7 Active, Galaxy S8, HTC 10, etc.
I want a 64bit cpu without losing too much that the Nexus 6 has done right.

A phone with a flat back that doesn't turn when used on a desk.
No Samsung or HTC because of the custom shell or bloatware and not easy to root. And price rather high.
OnePlus phones are most close to stock Android. Let's see if the new OnePlus will be a candidate....
There's a deal where you can get a S8 for $200 on the Samsung app via trade in. Or $290 for S8+ or $400 for a Note 4. Ends tomorrow.

Using the Samsung Shop app from the play store I could only find an S8 for $724.99 after $1999.99 in "savings".

Yep. Updated with one more link.
I have not upgraded my N6 but had plenty of opportunities. The reason is because I haven't found a worthy replacement that justifies my needs. I was going to get the Note 8 but I feel like getting another phone that's bigger would've been a disappointment. Unless camera quality is in your needs, the P2 set the bar high but I would want that camera in a phone that has a headphone jack and big battery. The S9 might be it but Ima wait until June/July for either the S9 or OnePlus 6.

I placed my order and bought the V20 off ebay.
The Galaxy S8 won't be in stock until the beginning of April and will ship out within 3 weeks after that. They charge you as soon as you order but you don't get your phone for nearly 3 months.
My totals were $130 for the V20 trade-in + $220 for the Galaxy S8. Totaling $360 and a 3 month wait.
I chatted and proposed solutions like waiting to charge when it ships and proposed they switch the Verizon model with the Unlocked model. All the Rep could do was apologize and say there is no way they can do anything to correct the unacceptable backorder time or switch models. They also asked that I do not judge Samsung by this experience.
I canceled that order, would rather have a OnePlus 3t or a much cheaper device now over that Samsung mess.

I just ordered the OP5T. I was contemplating between the 5T and the 5. The OP5 kept depreciating faster than the OP5T as the months went on. I chose the 5T because it was still reasonably priced (on Swappa) and I felt it offered a better value to me. Depending on how much you can spend to upgrade, the 3T or OP5 (128GB models) would be good options.
I was also looking at Razer Smartphones. The price never came down low enough for me to buy it.
I'm not a fan of Samsung.
I would have considered the HTC 10/U Ultra/U11. I think the lack of development swayed me away from these. I still have my VZN M7 running Santod's G+ Play edition as a media device and daily backup.
I was heavily considering a Moto Droid Force or Droid Play. Price was an issue here.
The LG G6 or V30 would have been considered. LG doesn't have a great track record (to me).
The Asus Zenfone 4 Pro would've been one of my choices. But, price was an issue here too.
I cannot think of any other brands/devices I would've considered as an appropriate upgrade to the great Shamu.
I actually downgraded from the N6P to the N6. IMHO, it's a much better, although bigger, phone. Easier to root, and work with.

Thread Jack....
I feel as if the N6 is just as legendary as the HTC One M7. Long Live Legendary Devices!
Back to your regular scheduled programming.
Just got the OP5T in. I'm in awe of how aesthetically pleasing the OP5T is. I did a few tests and this thing is super snappy. It's similar to when I went from the M7 to the N6. I plan on rooting and installing a custom ROM with EX Kernel to better fulfill my wants of this device. Stock ROM is stupidly pleasing.
I am still trying to find an upgrade phone that has root and a recovery, which most don't even have active development.

Should I get the Note 8?

I am thinking about buying it but I am not sure yet since I read that it's harder to develop roms for this device and I don't want to be stuck on android pie when the next android version comes out because of that. What I want to know is if it would be a good idea to buy it if I want to keep it for a few years (3-4) or should I buy another phone?
I can tell you this:
The note 8 is an excellent device, I think pie will be the last major firmware update for it from samsung , I skipped the note 9, as I think a two year cycle is adequate, in your case, it is ultimately about how much money you are willing to spend, you can get a new note 8 very cheap, but if android Q and the next one is of so much importance to you, then get a note 9 or wait for the note 10 that I expect to be formidable
If getting note 8 and want root and custom roms then go for SM-N950F / F/DS / N (exynos soc versions).
Stay away from the USA/Canadian versions SM-N950U/U1/W they have locked bootloader.

Thanks for the info. I am also considering to buy one since it's a well built phone and is cheap now. I don't really care about the android but Samsung gave pip on nougat so I guess I won't miss out any new features and I will have a secondary mi a1 which has been through rigorous flashing of roms:silly:

i'm in the Same case. I've Skipped the note 9 and waiting for the 10. And as you said, the note 8 is excellent "and can still run for a long time for all the peoples who don't care about the newest tech and the lastest useless features. I mean, why 3 or 5 rear Cameras when the note8 shots very well with its actual config. it's just an example
Is the battery still good guys?
Samsung said it will still hold 95 percent charge after 2 years is that true?
Is the fingerprint sensor really as bad as they say?
My note 8 is 16 months old, and the battery is as good as day one, accubattery reports that it charges up to 3325 mAh, and the fingerprint sensor is always accurate, it reads in less than a second, but this is MY experience

Android Pie will be the last major update for the Note 8, but it should keep getting security updates for another year or so. If Samsung doesn't release Android 10 firmware, then it can't be ported to the Note 8. There's no AOSP projects for the Note 8, so that won't be ported, either.
If you want to get a device that will keep getting new Android version updates, rather get a Pixel device. If you get the Note 8, you get it for the added features Samsung provides, and not because of their update schedule.
I guess, ultimately, it's down to whether you always want the newest version, or whether you want certain added features. Myself, I prefer the features the Note 8 provides. I'm happy staying on Android Pie for the next year or two until I decide to upgrade my device again to the then latest Note device.
If you shop around you could probably get a Note 9 for a excellent price. However if you are strapped for cash, then the Note 8 is an excellent device. I purchased the Note 8 shortly after the SGS9 series release and I am perfectly happy with my decision and will probably be using it until the battery starts to degrade.

S8 to get Android 10 update after all? and note 8?

We know that the hardware is identical but will it serve for our note 8?
Maybe in a custom rom version is it safe but officially?

IF the S8 does get Android 10, I am quite sure it would come to the N8 too.
I think we deserve it after putting trust back in the note series after dodgy batteries.
That is just a unconfirmed rumor. However if it does prove to be true then the Note 8 should also get Android 10 as well.

Yep
Was just elaborating on the security patch release.
I doubt we will get A10 for our N8.
The Open Handset Alliance stipulates that manufacturers should support firmware updates for (Android) devices for the first 18 months. The Note 8 is older than that. Since our (international) Note 8's get the security updates directly from Samsung, we can continue to expect only the monthly security patches. Carrier-branded Note 8's are at the mercy of the respective carriers for the security updates.
Personally, I don't see a benefit to switch to a Note 9 to get this update (from a hardware perspective).
I'd probably do a Note 10 in 2020 because I feel my Note 8's internal battery will stop holding charge then, and screen-burn in may be an issue at that point. My Note 8 is still in mint condition, so I'm trying to find a fault with it .
---------- Post added at 10:05 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:35 AM ----------
Samsung can always argue that they migrated us from 7.1.1 to Pie (and are still giving us security patches).
Very Cool! I read up a bit. Who knows if it is true or not. IF so I might just keep my trusty old s8+ which rocks btw instead of getting a note 10+ or a s20 just yet.

Samsung does. Omitting the Note 10 from all published list of devices for an Android 10 release would be a good indication.
Right now, I'd jump ship and get the Note equivalent of the S20 Ultra, only for the 100x camera, but the screen is too big to fit my average pocket, and the price is currently out of my reach.

Both the SGS8 series and the Note 8 were both released in the same year. The old differences is that the SGS8 was released earlier than the Note 8. That said they both run on the same hardware with the exception that the Note 8 has the S-Pen.

This sounds good on paper, but it is still an "old" device (in 2020) that will soon suffer a similar (unsupported) fate to the Note 8 in a few more months.
I believe Samsung is in the business of primarily selling only new phones, so I suspect the Note8's performance may become throttled like an old iPhone in the monthly security updates.
I can't consider selling my Note8 to buy a Note9 for a few dollars more when they are basically the same thing just to get Q. I'm not yet seeing a feature in the Note10 to make me part with my money other than the eye-candy interface.
Q is not worth spending extra cash for. Have tried it on my N9 and N10 and went back to Pie on both. Just my opinion others love it. I still use my N8 and it is still one of the best devices out there in 2020, but let's face it Samsung only gives 2 major updates to a device so S8 Note 8 will not be getting it. Can it support it??? I'm sure it can but Samsung wants to make money by getting boneheads like me to purchase a new device.

Yes both have same hardware but Note 8 has 6GB RAM and Dual camera and the S8 4GB with a Single camera. I think that a mobile that was release near 2018 by 1000$ deserved Android Q. Samsung policies must change in the flagship.
What's even worse is I'm running a Touchwiz Android 9 rom with Android 10 apps on my 6 edge plus. International device used here in United states with wifi calling..video calls..advanced messaging and volte. My point is if the old 6edge plus can handle this there is no reason the S8 or N8 cant. But I just dont see it happening. Many will read this thread and ask what's the point. But I like to see things like this talked about even if it doesn't go anywhere.

It's not financially viable to support an old device for another year... It might make people NOT shell out $1000+ for a new device if the operating system is the same & officially supported....
It takes a special breed to root, flash and enjoy the fruits of our labour that most people WON'T do with a device that cost a large chunk of cash. Hell, most people don't even know what Android 10 is.
The average consumer has no idea how, or why it's a good thing to use the latest operating system...
Yes this was the point I made before. It's all about $$$$[emoji16]. And you are exactly right, we are a rare breed on xda. Most people get a device because it looks good. Not because of battery..display..themes..roms...root..disable this keep that...camera...lol its shiny so I'm buying it.

I don't think those articles about the Note 8 getting Android 10 is incorrect. As the Note 8 has already received 2 major android OS updates. However we should still receive security patches for android Pie.
