What device did you upgrade to after your Nexus 6? - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What device did you upgrade to?
Any suggestions for devices that are affordable upgrades to the Nexus 6?
--
I'm looking for a new phone and I need some suggestions.
Looking for a smaller screen with a Snapdragon 820, 821, 835 CPU and an amazing camera. Front facing stereo speakers would be nice to have but they seem uncommon. Must have MicroSD card slot.
Needs to also have a rooting method and a slightly active xda presence.
Since the Nexus 6 was released in 2014, I'm looking at phones from 2016 and early 2017 for an affordable upgrade. Phones like Galaxy S7 Active, Galaxy S8, HTC 10, etc.
I want a 64bit cpu without losing too much that the Nexus 6 has done right.

If you have some reasons to avoid any of the above devices, please share so I don't make that mistake.

A phone with a flat back that doesn't turn when used on a desk.
No Samsung or HTC because of the custom shell or bloatware and not easy to root. And price rather high.
OnePlus phones are most close to stock Android. Let's see if the new OnePlus will be a candidate....

There's a deal where you can get a S8 for $200 on the Samsung app via trade in. Or $290 for S8+ or $400 for a Note 4. Ends tomorrow.

Where can I get the Samsung app and more information on this deal?
Using the Samsung Shop app from the play store I could only find an S8 for $724.99 after $1999.99 in "savings".
I think I'm using the wrong app.

Yep. Updated with one more link.
I have not upgraded my N6 but had plenty of opportunities. The reason is because I haven't found a worthy replacement that justifies my needs. I was going to get the Note 8 but I feel like getting another phone that's bigger would've been a disappointment. Unless camera quality is in your needs, the P2 set the bar high but I would want that camera in a phone that has a headphone jack and big battery. The S9 might be it but Ima wait until June/July for either the S9 or OnePlus 6.

I placed my order and bought the V20 off ebay.
The Galaxy S8 won't be in stock until the beginning of April and will ship out within 3 weeks after that. They charge you as soon as you order but you don't get your phone for nearly 3 months.
My totals were $130 for the V20 trade-in + $220 for the Galaxy S8. Totaling $360 and a 3 month wait.
I chatted and proposed solutions like waiting to charge when it ships and proposed they switch the Verizon model with the Unlocked model. All the Rep could do was apologize and say there is no way they can do anything to correct the unacceptable backorder time or switch models. They also asked that I do not judge Samsung by this experience.
I canceled that order, would rather have a OnePlus 3t or a much cheaper device now over that Samsung mess.

I just ordered the OP5T. I was contemplating between the 5T and the 5. The OP5 kept depreciating faster than the OP5T as the months went on. I chose the 5T because it was still reasonably priced (on Swappa) and I felt it offered a better value to me. Depending on how much you can spend to upgrade, the 3T or OP5 (128GB models) would be good options.
I was also looking at Razer Smartphones. The price never came down low enough for me to buy it.
I'm not a fan of Samsung.
I would have considered the HTC 10/U Ultra/U11. I think the lack of development swayed me away from these. I still have my VZN M7 running Santod's G+ Play edition as a media device and daily backup.
I was heavily considering a Moto Droid Force or Droid Play. Price was an issue here.
The LG G6 or V30 would have been considered. LG doesn't have a great track record (to me).
The Asus Zenfone 4 Pro would've been one of my choices. But, price was an issue here too.
I cannot think of any other brands/devices I would've considered as an appropriate upgrade to the great Shamu.

I actually downgraded from the N6P to the N6. IMHO, it's a much better, although bigger, phone. Easier to root, and work with.

I feel as if the N6 is just as legendary as the HTC One M7. Long Live Legendary Devices!
Back to your regular scheduled programming.
Just got the OP5T in. I'm in awe of how aesthetically pleasing the OP5T is. I did a few tests and this thing is super snappy. It's similar to when I went from the M7 to the N6. I plan on rooting and installing a custom ROM with EX Kernel to better fulfill my wants of this device. Stock ROM is stupidly pleasing.

I am still trying to find an upgrade phone that has root and a recovery, which most don't even have active development.

Note 5 alternatives that are better and cheaper

My Note 4 will be my last phone from Samsung.
Now thinking of the LG G4 Pro when it comes out or there's the new Motorola X Style coming out next month for only £359.99:
http://blog.clove.co.uk/2015/08/14/pre-order-motorola-x-style-359-99-coming-september/
When you compare the specs of this phone and the price to the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ 32GB – £600 including VAT (£500+VAT) 64GB – £680 including VAT (£566.67+VAT) you can see how Samsung are rapidly becoming the new Nokia.
Perhaps they shouldn't rely on 'focus groups' so much?
Don't know if cheaper but I'll be moving to LG g4 pro hopefully if it has what I want. Contract expires soon

Yes, the G Pro 4 as the lad above me said, it will be a really heavy hitter. Or...
...the previous Notes, 3 and 4.
True, no 64 bit processors, but the Note 4's camera is comparable to the one in the Note 5, also removable battery, also the same 2K screen.
The Note 3 - camera is obviously weaker, but due to the screen not being 2K, doesn't drain the battery so much, plus we have ports of the Note 4 and S6. The phone is still powerful even today. And these days it's dirt cheap.
Or if you don't care about battery life too much, wait for the new Nexuses. I'm eyeing the Nexus 5 (2015) cause rumors claim it will be Full HD screen instead of 2K + the Snapdragon 820 inside.
Thanks, Samsung, for a 3000 mAh battery in a phone that could have had 4000 easily, and this bull***t "why use your phone for longer when you can charge it faster"? F*** logic.
If my only upgrade options are with pathetic battery life, I think I'll get pathetic battery life with pure Android.
I've also read that the Nexus 5 (15) is going to have the 620 snapdragon.

I don't think we're going to see a phone with the Snapdragon 820 until 2016. I'd love to be proven wrong though. It just got announced.
Best hope we have is a G4 Pro with the full Snapdragon 810 that doesn't overheat and with all we wanted in the Note (removable battery, SD card) and of course what you would expect in a flagship (awesome screen - probably with LG it will be IPS, top end camera, and the other features). I'd love for a return to a Nexus with a removable battery and storage but I don't think that is happening.
The last LG G pro, the LG G pro 2 wasn't released for the US market. Maybe the LG G pro 3 will be different.
The LG g4 isn't really an option because it has inferior graphics performance vs the note 4 and almost no development support.
Anyway I'm going to give the Note 5 a try. If I don't like it, I have 14 days to return it.

HTC and Motorola have both done the same thing. They both removed expandable storage and then restored it.
The HTC M7 and Moto X both lacked microsd card support. The HTC restored expandable storage in the M8 and M9 while motorola restored it in the Moto X style.
The best alternative to the Note 5? You already own it, it's called the Note 4!
With that said, if you really don't need the Wacom pen (I do), I'd also have suggested the LG G4 or the Moto X Style/Pure if you can also do without a removable battery, with the latter's strongest selling point being that it works on just about any network you can imagine, no countless variants with locked-out bands like everyone who isn't Apple or Google tends to do.
I still don't believe the LG G4 Pro is a thing until it gets officially announced, but if they stop faffing about with capacitive styluses and put a proper Wacom digitizer in there, they're gonna steal all of the Galaxy Note users ticked off by the Note 5 in one fell swoop.

I'm using a Note 3 and its wonderful. I bought TWO Note 1's. The first one got flakey after a year and I didn't like the Note 2 cause of the narrower screen so I got another Note 1. Now I've upgraded to the Note 3 and the software (AryaMod 7.2 + a kernel with memory compression) is really maturing, I have a 128GB SD which I'll soon upgrade to 200GB, 256GB or 512GB depending on prices at the end of the year. The Note 3 was the great leap forward.
The Note 4 was an incremental step over the Note 3. I bit of a step backwards losing USB 3.0. But otherwise its a Note 3+
The Note5 is an evil degenerative troll. They should just cancel it and wait till next year.
Hopefully sales will be so bad that they will be compelled to release a fixit version of the Note 5 with SD, and either removable battery or make the silly thing water proof to give you a reason the battery can't be removed.
The Note5 is an abomination. Stick with the Note 3 or 4 till the Note 6 comes out.

Really I think it will be a good phone, one of the best on the market but for note4 and s6 owners this phone won't be a straight upgrade more of a sidegrade, where you sacrifice some functionality for other functionality. It shouldn't have been, it should have a clear upgrade
The Note 5 has a lot of competition
The Huawei Mate 8 is launching next month.
Add this to the growing list of Note 5 alternatives:
http://vinereport.com/article/huawei.mate.8.mate.8.to.be.officially.released.in.ifa.new.phone.will.have.front.facing.led.flash.for.front.cam/2344.htm
That mate 8 phone sounds really impressive but these phones need to have some kinda pen especially since their bigger .. I hope the g4 pro ends up releasing
Biggest problem is every damn phone out there have somefunction wich is missing compared to N4
Exempel. Most phones dont have IR like moto
Removabale battery
The S pen and muti window
Support for my Gear S
No wireless charging
And other small stuff... So whatever damn phone i look at is missing functions
Im stickning with my N4 and dont know why we all Gotta chnage phones..mine is great.
Btw. Note 3 owners. Uppgrade to N4 i have them both at Home and n4 is better and worth it.

For me, the main festure I want that Samsung has now failed on with both the Note 4 and Note 5, is a larger screen than my Note 3. All the things they did taking steps backwards with the Note 5, is just adding insult to injury for me. I don't care what the hell was in the phone, if it still a has a "small ass" 5.7 inch screen, I don't want it. Now I'm completely ready to jump to another manufacturer, after having the original Note and then Note 3, as long as someone comes out with a high end phone with a larger screen than 5.7 inches.

I definitely agree in that the Note 3 was the biggest leap forward, given the jump to 1080p, USB 3.0, S800, IR blaster and so forth.
The Note 4 lost USB 3.0, ambient temp and humidity sensors for whatever dumb reason, but I do like the fast charge, pen tilt sensitivity and Gear VR it brought to the table. It probably helped that I was coming from an S3 (would've been a Note 2 if I had my way); coming from a Note 3, you'd gain a lot less, even losing a little.
But you'd lose a lot less than going to the Note 5. Samsung really screwed us this time, and I can only hope they realize their error by bringing back everything with the Note 6.

Planning to buy a Galaxy Note 4 in 2016?

hey guys, i need some of your help, i will buy a note 4 in these days, is still worth buying?
If yes, what model? the snapdragon quadcore or the exynos octacore? which of them have more development for stable roms like a note 7 port to the note 4?
Please i need your opinions, thank you
Won't recommend it this late, especially when the likes of OnePlus 3 is out there, sorry. Also there is HTC 10. The only reason you should get the Note 4 is if you are getting it at a really low price. I love my Note 4, but a phone running TouchWiz, well it still runs TouchWiz. But if S Pen is a mandatory thing to you then you can't go anywhere else except the Note 4, that's true too.
Exynos all the way, if you don't wish for them AOSP based ROMs.
I don't agree, this is my fourth Note 4. Thought I could replace it with LG G4, no way. Thougth I could replace it with Oneplus 3, no way. Yeah, The OP3 is snappier, but thats it, everything else is better on Note 4.

I voted yes. I actually just ordered one yesterday, Due to arrive tomorrow. I was between a rock and a hard place when I made my decision. Seeing as the new notes all have a lot of nice features and speed improvement. The reason I decided on the note 4 is of course the note features as compared to other things like the lg g4 the oneplus etc. And my second biggest reason is that it's the last of the note series to have svlte. Meaning if i'm at a store and someone calls me I can still use data without needing wifi. All newer phones "at least on verizon" do not allow this unless you have volte I think. Problem is I use all my phones on prepaid and verizon won't allow prepaid users to use advanced calling. So if you're on verizon prepaid then the note 4 is for you. If you're on contract or just don't care about svlte then I say get a newer note. note 5 major drawbacks to me. no svlte. no sd card. no removable battery. note 7 drawbacks. no removeable battery and still very expensive.

I agree, the only reason why i dont choose the note 5 over the note 4 is for the sd card slot, and i dont get the note 7 becouse it is too way expensive.
I would choose the OP3 over the note 4 of course, but it doesnt have sd card slot, and there is only a variant of 64 gb
And i dont buy phones with mobile contract lol
Ohh and another question, which is the variant tag of the note 4 exynos octacore?
I've had my N910C for about a year now and it's probably the best device I've ever had. I got it shortly last year after the SGS6 series was released and when the specs of the Note 5 were announced. If I do end up upgrading it will probably be to a Note 7 as Note 4 are now very hard to find in brand new condition.

C and U are the tags which stated that you have a Exynos 5433 Octocore device.
I recently bought a refurb TMo Note 4 that went for cheap to use as a backup phone to my Nexus 6P. The last Samsung phone I had was a S4 and I was disillusioned with Samsung since the S3 and very critical of their software, so I only used Motorola and Nexus since. I have opened many phones brands to see their internals including Huawei, HTC, Motorola, ZTE, Samsung and Apple. I'm never impressed with Samsung internal build quality including this Note 4, which I think is cheap considering how much it cost during release. (My opinion, you don't have to get offended.)
I didn't expected to like the S-Pen features so much, along with multitask and pop out feature. This is pretty important to me, to be able watch a video while doing something else at the same time. I can do this with third party apps on the Nexus, I like the fact it's built in for the Note. With Root, Adaway, Nova Launcher, XPosed (reluctantly) the phone is pretty smooth and while not super snappy as my Nexus 6P, it certainly isn't slow. Another important Samsung feature I like is the Game Tuner and this pretty much eliminate the performance issue since I can play games at 720p/1080p and get good framerates. Again I can lower the screen res on my Nexus as well, except this is built in and it only affect selected apps which is much more convenient. Basically, the Note have all the features I wanted built in that I would have to go through extra steps to make available on my Nexus. Did I mentioned removable battery, sdcard and IR blaster?
The only downside for the phone is the finger print scanner is crap, but Smart Unlock works for me so it's not a problem. Other minor issue is the GPS sucks, I had to open up the phone which scared me a bit actually, but I managed to bend that GPS gold contact point upward a bit, now the signal is great.
So I sold the 6P to pay some bills and using the Note 4 as my daily driver. I think the whole Note 7 recall might work in my favor if it cause the phone price to go down faster, then I might upgrade to the Note 7 rather than getting the the new Google Pixel phone.
I forget to mention T-Mobile WiFi Calling works perfectly and stays connected all the time with this phone, a huge deal. For whatever reason it's always disconnect on the Nexus 6P and with Android 7 update it got worse.

Disagree, I recently bought 2x Note 4's for around 260€ a piece plus shipping and both are as new! So if you look around carefully you can find them for a reasonable price in as new condition...
Looking at ebay.de/co.uk and you will find good examples.
I would even go further that if they have some minor scratches on the frame, go and buy yourself a new frame. Replacing the frame is easy as is replacing the display assy...

Hi there,
I voted "YES" too.
I have one already (one Month old) and two more for the rest of the family coming this way. Why you may ask?
I need the S-Pen features, I wan't to be able to replace the battery (switch it in 2 min and 100% battery again), I'm using the SM-N9100 dual sim together with the MicroSD card (can't do that with Note 5 or Note7).
Finally the main reason (Price), I have friends in China that can buy it at 280€ , although locked to China SIM's but with a 10min call (using China SIM) and no problem at all using other Region SIM's ever.
It has a CHC rom (China and English) but using ODIN we can easily load the TGY Multi Language ROM with Gapps (Stock) and not triggering the KNOX warranty flag...
PS: The only downside points (by choosing the DualSIM N9100 version) are :
- The lack or Custom Roms (for example 6.0.1 not yet available "officially" in the TGY variant, maybe a few weeks from now since the CHC is "Finally" out).
- Smaller battery (3000 vs 3220).
- Less storage (16GB vs 32GB).
- Only Snapdragon, no Exynos option for dual sim.
- No FDD LTE band 20, but on the plus side we do have more bands for TDD side (traveling).
but unfortunately I really need the "DualSIM" feature .
PS: In China I saw the non-dual sim version at a even lower price (250€). Imagine buying three units at the same cost of the latest Note7. Can't beat the features/price ratio, especially packed with a amazing 5.7 inch 2K super Amoled screen . And I'm not talking about Refurbishing units.
Thanks,
Regards,

Depends ... the note 4 has a fine hardware, but the software (espacially updates) sucks. The note 4 is the first smartphone I never would get again. Don't get me wrong - really, the hardware is awesome, but the software (even with alternative) is just so bad. I came from a google nexus 2 years back and will get a nexus again.
Also I guess the note 4 won't get any more software updates, after the note 5 and 7 are out by now. I would suggest you wait till google releases their new nexus / pixel phones and look at the 6p then. My wife has the nexus 6p and I'm quite jealous - all that what I wanted the note 4 to be if you dont calc in the missing pen. Even the cam is better then the note 4 IMHO. And it will drop in price then.
Oh, and for what I don't like about the software ... it's slow and hangs from time to time. Also some Apps from Samsung are just bad like SVoice ... google now is much better in comparsion. If you ever used a pure android, you know what I mean. Also the additional apps like FB are something I don't want. Then there's the problem with the knox triggering when rooting (could result in a warranty dismissal) and so on. Or some random restarts with stock firmware (right now stock DBT snapdragon). Or the really bad finger print sensor. The Pen stuff is awesome and the OCR works like magic. But I use it quite rarely so it doesn't outweigh the cons.
Also I couldn't find any alternative rom that was working for me (too much stuff in it, too slow, to instabile, you name it) or with cm the health sensors not working and some other samsung stuff.
And to be a bit more clear, after I had some other samsung devices in my hands ... never again a samsung for me personally. Only the best phones get updates for more then like 6 months and new features don't reach the phones ever. Also it seems like there are 20 software engineering camps withing samsung, all working against each other...
But really, this is my personal, strong subjective feeling about the phone - if you like it or not, depends on how it works for you. For me there are too many things that anger me, mostly small things like I mentioned above. Might be it's different for you. Read some more reviews on amazon, even the bad ones.
You could set your priorities and then decide, OP.
Hardware: Note 4 is still decent, but much newer chipset and better chipset are out there.
Software: As far as TouchWiz goes, no comment there. But with a little bit of tweaking (by choosing performance over battery) you could the nice enough performance. But never to the level of HTC 10 and OnePlus 3. Read Anand's review of Note 7 and see the section where they compared the frame rates with HTC 10. TouchWiz lags mate, its as simple as that.
Camera + Display: Display is excellent, and camera is decent enough too.
S Pen: No competition there, again.
Build: Note 4 is the very LAST phone in Samsung's lineup where Samsung used practical materials to come up with a mobile phone. Now all of them are jewellery.
Price: Like I said in my previous comment, if you could get it at good price, which is somewhere around 25-30% lower than OnePlus 3's then "maybe" you could get it.
The note 4 is still a great device I still have my tmo 910t device i just ordered the 910c for exynos which is a little snappier than the snapdragon all the devices in my sig. i still own and use but for a few. I haven't added another note 5c and s6 edge plus to my sig yet. But the note 4 will keep up with those other devices for the age. if you want a loud ringing phone note 4 is it.. The note 5 isnt as loud as the note 4 or the note 3 for that matter..
I currently have a Note 4 on the Verizon network.. Plus it is snapper than most, plus it can handle anything I throw at it app wise.. Never over heats or crahses.. The Note 5 and seven both have none removal batteries, and that is a draw back for me.. Plus it still has volte, and the newer ones do not.. I also have the Droid Turbo on Verizon.. What I do not like, is before I installed a custom rom, the battery would drain, and constantly needed to be charge.. Plus it would over heat a lot and freeze.. I would consider another Note 4 if I needed one.. But when the Note 4 is payed off, I plan on getting any Samsung device or another brand all together.. It will depend on price, and development..

Note 4 Nougat Petition

Hello Note 4 users and lovers.
I've created a petition for official note 4 Nougat update.
Please sign and share if you can.
Thanks

Petition only applies to users of F version. Why does not include C version users?

Dude, we're still getting monthly security updates and we should be thankful for that. If you want the latest and greatest Android version, upgrade your phone. Note 4 is old, it's acceptable if it doesn't received Nougat.

Your petition is biased.
Why not SM-N910 to make it general?
Anyway I'm of the opinion that since the phone was released in October 2014, it should be updated to Nougat because its two-year OS eligibility falls within the time Nougat was officially released by Google.
Not to mention we would have a Note7 by now if Samsung hadn't messed it up. But I agree, the petition is not inclusive for all models .
I only said that I have the F version. I didn't said that only that version deserved the update.

I agree completely, it should be N910 in general but I saw the OP reply below and he is correct that the petition he wrote it just stating his model and not to get nougat only for the F model. I also agree with the second point and have been sort of annoyed with Samsung for this, it's supposed to be 2 year OS update so as mentioned, Oct. 2014 for Note 4 launch and since Nougat came out in August 2016 we should have it. Add to that, a lot of us Note 4 owners bought, and ultimately lost, the Note 7's thanks to Samsung and as a gesture to sort of make up for that they should have added the Note 4 to the Nougat release.
Anyway going slightly off topic;
I love my Note 4 but am ready for a new device. Personally, I love the s-pen and hate to give it up but if the pricing rumors hold true and the conversion to Canadian is somewhat accurate it would be in the $1300 range (give or take) for the S8 so Note 8 would likely be in the same price range. No way will I accept those prices but I will wait and see with the S8 info that comes later today and decide from there. The Note 7 was $1050 CDN, I won't support Samsung if the Note 8 is anything above MAX $1100 CDN and less than 64GB storage (and better have expandable) as that is expensive enough as it is and pushing it IMO.
I'm waiting to see the OnePlus 5 later this year and will likely buy that if Samsung starts going to ridiculous Apple prices. Google also lost me after the Pixel phones being ridiculously overpriced as well. I mean, they want more for the Pixel XL than Samsung wanted for the Note 7... WTF Google?!? That's like LG and HTC thinking they can price at the same range as Samsung as well when they have so little to offer or reason to buy over Samsung and especially over some of these new phones from OnePlus, Huawei, etc... but $1180 for 128GB Pixel XL/$1050 for 32GB Pixel XL compared to $1050 for 64GB Note 7 and well the Note 7 was the far better deal, and phone.
Anyway, that's my rant/2 cents lol.
As long as you are all in signing mode, here is a petition where you can state all you want in the Note8

Note 8 or S9+

I am so torn between these 2. The price for the Exynos S9+ is insane compared to the SD, and I can also get my hands on a 256GB Note 8, but I don't want to buy a super awesome 1 year old processor. Looking for input.
Edit: I changed "dated" to "a super awesome 1 year old processor" for the ones that are easily distracted and/or offended.

Get the S9+ and then trade it in for the Note 9 at a big discount - unless you needed the pen... Best of both worlds

Note 8 is not "outdated tech" , as others stated above, the really important thing is, do you use, like, need, love the s pen? Because the s pen is the very heart of a galaxy note, If the only reason for you is having the "latest tech" there are many options for you to choose, even in the vivo or huawei brands, in other words, if you have doubts, then the note 8 is not for you
Sticking with the Note 8 i cant justify spending another $900 plus after a few months with the Note...just waiting for the Note 9.

That ^ and lets say you on payment plan. You just had to put $200-300 down plus payments. With the galaxy s9+ you will have to do the same all over. Is it really worth a slightly better Note 8? I don't think so.
This Note 8 is a powerful phone good for 2-3 years, maybe more. Like others said wait for Note 9 or Note 10. I myself waiting for Note 10. The rumor specs of Note 9 seems to be nothing to jump out of your seat for.
If your 1 who wants hottest phone all the time, then go for it. It's your money spend how you want.
I love my note 8, I will keep it 'till note 10 arrives, when you are really into the note series, anything else seems capped, the s pen has no match!
I'm very partial to my Note 8 I did have to get the Galaxy S8 plus because of the Note 7 issue and it was a great phone but I'll wait for the Note 9 and Note 10,I also like the dual cameras on the Note 8 how they are side by side, not really liking the cameras on the S9 plus being one underneath the other,I know they are way better specs wise but it's just an aesthetic thing for me.
Lol @ when he said dated tech. LOL.

Same here. Love my Note 8, plus I'm not one of those to upgrade every year, the new features from one gen to next is not much, just a waste of money to upgrade every year IMO considering how much phones cost these days. I love the spen so I continue to buy Note over S if possible.
I'll be waiting for the Note 10, I'm betting they are planning to make a big improvement with it being the 10, well hopefully.
As was mentioned before, the Note 8 is far from outdated. Amazing piece of tech. I recommend to shop around to save some money.
Go for the 9 if you don't use the S-pen
I say outdated, because both cpu's are being replaced in the flagship lineup. Don't get caught up on the wording.
I decided on the S9 Plus, because I stopped using the s pen. I sold my S8 plus to help fund another device, and so I rolled back to my Note 4 in the meantime, and I haven't used the S pen once. Thanks for all of the input.
S9 if you don't need Spen. Note8 if you want Spen and save some money
I for one am tired of the "gotta have it! gotta have it!" with the new phones. The changes from phone to phone aren't worth the $900+ IMO. I will be keeping my Note8 until it breaks/starts tweaking out.

so, please explain exactly what tech in the note 8 is "dated"
I would say stick with it. We will get the ports of the software so that's not a problem and the hardware won't shine if you are comparing it to the note 8.

So in other words, we aren't going to use accurate wording that best describes what we are saying? You got the reaction that those words warranted man.
Dated is such an overstatement anyways. I actually considered buying a Note 4 for back up last night. $189 new at walmart.com.

So who is getting it ?

Hi all :victory:
Samsung announced today their new beast the Samsung Galaxy Note 9. What do you think about this new device ? Are you considering to buy it ? Upgrade from your current device ? Tell us :good:
i just received an email from samsung that i can preorder today, they said everyone else preorder start tomorrow.
hopefully i get it sooner than everyone.
i preordered Verzion version since i'm with Verizon prepaid.
i trade in my Note8 for 400$. that' a fair price, if you sell it yourself, you have to pay swappa fee, paypal fee, and shipping.
reason i want note9.
1. need something new to play with. haha
2. cpu and graphic is faster than note8
3. 128gb storage compare to 64gb on note8, but do i need it? i only used 30gb on my note8
4. bluetooth spen, hopefully i able to use it for selfie.
5. hopefully we can Quick Charge 4. qualcomm listed QC4.0, charge 15 minutes get 50% battery life !
I'm buying it for sure. Till the official announcement, I wasn't considering it based on strong rumors of still being equipped with QC 2.0 and my personal taste on the not-so-usefulness of the S-Pen. But then, I made my mind to get it ASAP due to,
1. 4000 mAh battery.(little disappointing that it's still QC 2.0 only). I'm not so happy with the S9+'s batterylife.
2. S-Pen is pretty "dope" this time around- it's a remote controller for the camera, it's a pen, it can control streaming services from 30 feet away, can control apps, it's customizable, gets charged under 1 minute using supercapacitors inside....
3. AI integration on camera.
4. Water-carbon cooling system to prevent overheating and AI based performance adjuster.
5. Plenty of of RAM and flash Storage.
....
**Pixel 3 xl was in my mind but then after trustworthy leaks showing its design, I felt "NO". , it should be the Note 9 worth taking.
Was going to preorder it, but the have only the blue one, and purple one available only, wanted the black one. Also you get a free AKG wireless noise canceling headphones.

Qualcomm SD 845 chipset supports QC 4.0 but Samsung capped it at QC 2.0. So, do not hope
I was excited for this phone but after reading it still only comes with Android 8.0 was enough for me to say PASS.

In italy, we have to rent the 512gb/8gb ram for 45€ per month 24 months long with a first payment of 99€.
Waiting for firsts reviews to check battery.

To me, if I am going to pay upwards of $1000 for a phone then it should be Flagship. To me that means the most up to date hardware and software. At least Android 8.1 would be acceptable but 8.0 just means that put a nice paint job on an old house.
I actually didnt want to get it, but my Note 5 is getting older and battery is not holding a long charge.
Plus Tmo can give me $500 for this old phone. I think I am going to pull the trigger.
Likely ill get it, not thrilled with the color choices...copper is the only one Id consider but i def need to see it in person.

I've found the more memory I have available, the more I'll use so 128 Gb may suit you well. Quick Charge is 2.0 for the Note 9 which is a bit disappointing but not a deal killer. I turned down Samsung's $400 trade in offer and sold my S8+ for a $100 more on a local Craigslist post., no fees or shipping required. Personally I feel the S9 Plus makes more sense unless you really use S Pen. The devices are very similar in hardware besides the bigger battery on Note 9, display size is very close but the big difference is price. New Note 9 - $1,000, New S9 Plus (128 Gb) - $664 for the device on ebay.
Just pre-ordered unlocked 128 gb from Samsung. Bought a lg g6 on swappa for $160 to get the $300 trade in. I'm ready!
I pre ordered mine. Blue with 8 gigs and the 512 memory. I bought an S7 active on eBay for a $100 and will trade it in for $300. Just sold note 8 for over $500. Bought Whitestone Dome glass and S View case. Hurry up August 24th!!

I'm doing something similar! Buying the S7 for $130(ish) and trading in for $500 through T-mobile! Where did you snag one for only $100?? I can't seem to beat $130.
I'm getting the $999 Note9 (Blue). Can't wait! I adore my Note 8 and the only thing that I wish was better was the battery life, so this phone should be PERFECT!
Nice pre-order deal here in Australia, on samsung’s site: 512GB model for the price of the 128 GB model, A$1499.
And samsung will give me a very good trade in of A$785 for my 10 months old pixel 2 XL. That’s about what I could get on ebay, but without the hassle.
Ordered!

My seller is out of NY
Bought 128gb Blue, ugh I wanted black. Got the unlocked version 400 dollars off thanks to an S8 sitting in a drawer. Wife gets to dump her LG V20 and get my Note 8 and I get the 9 for 640 bucks with tax. Win win.
