Hey everyone (particularly those I previously interacted with in the - now much less active - Note 3 forum )
My fist post in this forum signifies... pretty much a complete 180 wrt my interest in the Note 4, altering it from "ehh, no thanks" to "I wonder if the Tmo store down the street has any in stock?"
First, my current Note 3: I freaking love it, easily my #1 fav out of the many phones I've owned. It's running Tweaked 3.9, leanKernel 3.11.3 and themed with @cbucz24's B&W Tweaked theme and a sick themed stock Samsung keyboard that he made. Run's like a dream (Antutu benchmarks always in the mid 40k's with an all time high of about 47.5K), Nova Prime, any otherwise heavily customized software-wise (most significant example: I've basically totally altered the stock S pen function via GMD S-pen / no auto Air Command, but launch-able via GMD and significant progress towards my goal of doing literally anything (access obscure settings / direct dial, etc.) just by scribbling a path on the screen. Also, froze flashbar service, replaced with sidebar launchers of Flppr - access pre-configured widgets, divided into categories, from ANY screen via swipe gestures (awesome in general, but particularly useful for "remotes" such as Smart Remote, Yatse, Ultimate Remote...), OmniSnitch (grabbed from the ROM flashed on my "week or so NEW" Note 10.1 2014, T-mo lte variant (p607t, which is actually just a carrier branded P605 - international lte variant, thus completely compatible with p605 ROMs :good, and PIE. Last example (maybe most significant) example, replaced Pen Window, which is rather slow, clunky, and functionally limited AND split window with the far superior XHalo module. Really the only "native" function that I use is handwriting recognition, which IMO works amazingly well). Also, I'm pretty good storage-wise, with the 32GB internal, a 64GB external (must have root app: FolderMount!) AND a few of those tiny USB / USB OTG drives - two of them being USB 3 / 64 GB (but the first Corsair one I got was "misplaced" (read: very likely lost forever) - replaced it with the equivalent Patriot drive which has the fastest transfer speeds I've EVER seen on a flash drive, but via PC USB 3 and phone micro usb 2! Oh, last thing, tons of accessories, most of which incompatible with the Note 4 (ex. cases... so many cases! and a micro USB 3 4 port hub).
So while, having the 'old' JUMP program and not yet using it, it makes more "sense" to trade my Note 3 for a 4, then do the same when this period of "transitional" phone releases passes, and the 64-bit "phone of my dreams" (yes, to confirm, phone ownership CAN affect sleep ) becomes available. However, given my exceptional "fondness" for my N3 & it's extensively customized tweaks, I am somewhat concerned about ditching it for its (currently, at least) less customizable successor.
Keeping my N3 AND getting an N4 really is not an option - I don't really have the cash to buy it straight up, and wouldn't be particularly compelled to if I did. However, having the 'old' JUMP, which I haven't yet used, I feel like, logically, I should go for upgrade 1 of 2 / year, and swap the N3 for a 4, which would be sort of a "transitional" device, until something that I NEED to have released.
SO Note 4 owners (JUMPers... first and last time I'll ever be using that adjective ), where any of you in a similar situation, but decided to go for it anyways? Are you happy to have done so? Any regrets?
Last (any peripheral) question: is anyone aware of the current availability of the N4? Is it typically available in stores yet (particularly in Chicago - the store near me is in Lincoln Park on Clark, if I have any neighbors around here )? Or is the best (fastest) way to JUMP via ordering online (if so, would it be a pre-order and if so, how long of a delay should be expected?) I do know a really cool / helpful guy at the T-mo store (who I talked EXTENSIVELY about root etc., explicitly making sure the new tablet wasn't locked down before buying it, and even straight up asking him if he thought that it would be cool to flash alternative firmware on my new deposit-less AC1900 if I flashed it back to stock before returning it, to which he surprisingly responded "yeah, I'm pretty sure that's fine"!) so he could possibly help me out if availability is still an issue (he also ordered a LTE booster, sent to my house, since I told him I wanted both but was told I could only have one or the other shipped. Paid the deposit for that one, but just got tracking info: delivery date = tomorrow )
So I can / plan to roll by the store to check it out, but just wondering if anyone has bought / ordered one recently and has any info re: current availability.
Really looking forward to discussing / exploring the mod potential for this device with you all! Thanks in advance - mostly hoping to resolve the matters that are making me hesitant to JUMP over to this device and it's MUCH more active discussion :good:
For me, the Note 4 is everything I've ever wanted in a phone (minus dual front facing speakers, but oh well)
I LOVED my Note 3. LOVED it. It was hands down the best device I've ever owned. Until now. I didn't use my JUMP (even though I have JUMP 1.0) kept the Note 3 so I could give it to my friend who would never be able to afford a beastly phone like that.
The Note 4 is the best phone money can buy right now (IMHO). No regrets, and I got it on release day. I baby it and it already has a couple of minor scratches on the aluminum bezel but I could care less. I never dropped it, ever, and I'm ultra careful with my phones (the Note 3 is still flawless, I mean literally looks brand new). So keep that in mind, you will get scratches on the bezel, but honestly even with that, still THE best phone in the world.
That tweaked 3.9 is a GREAT rom, but the note4 is an all around better device. Battery life, camera focus speed, processor speed (once tweaked a little), and the s-pen does function better.
And that fast charger makes anything else obsolete. Charging to 75-90% in 1hr is just crazy.
Screen is pretty nice too :wink:
I was pretty bummed about the rear speaker, and the non wolfson dac, but I guess only a few media people even care about sound quality lol.
If it's a stretch money wise, just skip this iteration, it's improved but not mind blowing
Hey thanks a lot man! Just called the store, and the guy made it pretty clear that online order was the way to go (specifically, they had one white one at 6PM Thurs., and he said it'd likely be gone within 10 mins!) Additionally, with the online JUMP, I have 30 days to give my N3 a :crying: proper goodbye :laugh: )
I'm going to go ahead and find + order a case (slim but protective w/ built in port covers / tempered glass saver. Would welcome recommendations on that :highfive:

Ah yes, the speaker; meant to address that. Placement / quality of a device's speaker(s) is probably the lowest priority criteria for device selection. By that I mean, if I'm doing anything on the phone where I care about sound quality (media, gaming (occasionally, but not usually), pretty much anything aside from ring / notification tones) I'm going to be connecting either headphones, APTX BT speaker, or even my 7.1 AVR. Any of those is going to produce better sound than even the best built in speakers on any mobile device, for which I would do the same. The lack of the Wolfson DAC is a drag or rather a "wtf sammy".
Situation seems to be that N4 is unquestionably "better" overall than the N3, and I basically have the choice of walking around with one or the other in my pocket, or burning 1/2 JUMP upgrades. Now that development for this phone has picked up, it seems to me that grabbing an N4 vs. holding onto my N3 would be an "emotional rather than logical" decision.
When you get your phone, you will love it. I switched from an AT&T S3 to this T-Mobile N4. A tad pricey, but oooh so worth it. I've wanted a Note phone for years and I finally have one. I'm tempted to root and tweak but worried about tripping Knox and any unforseen warranty hassles.
Anyway, glad you love your N3. Hope the N4 is everything you want it to be.

The UI feels a bit clunkier And the battery life isnt nearly as good for me as a heavy user i could get almost a full day and a half, on the note 4 i might get barely a day same use.
If i couldve taken the note 3 software multi window UI and put it in the note 4 body it would be the perfect phone.

I have to agree. Turned my note 3 on last night to play with it and it's smooth. Still on stock rooted and animation is smoother with less lag.
Battery on my note 4 i would say lasts 15% less. I've only disconnected my phone for 5 hours with 2:15 screen time and I'm already at 55%. I'm losing about an hour total screen time compared to my note 3.

Yes, Note 4 is worth the JUMP....
I loved my Note 3, but I love my Note 4 more.
There are only two things that I miss about my Note 3.
Temperature sensor
Humidity sensor
If none of these matter to you, the Note 4 is a no brainer. Even if those things mattered to you (like it matters to me ) the Note 4 is still a no brainer.
Those are great AnTuTu benchmakrs for the Note 3, but the SD800 in the N3 is no comparison to the N4 SD805. If you look in my sig, I've hit 50K+ on stock kernel running FireKatv2.

Working 6 months with the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 (910F), 5 Years with Samsung
I am not a regular user / buyer. I have many smartphones and when I like a brand, i am buying everything i can from the same brand.
Until 5 years ago, I was working only with HTC. I bought 8 HTC smartphones.
And then I discovered Samsung.
From then, I bought 10 Samsung smartphones, 3 Samsung Smart TVs and more.
But my passion to Samsung started to crack, and all because of my Note 4 issues.
When I received the Note 4, it was amazing - excellent battery life, everything worked perfect.
And then came updates...
After the first update, the Note 4 started to have bluetooth issues - I need to make restart twice a day in order to work with my bluetooth headsets (even with Samsung headsets).
With more updates, the battery life dropped dramatically. After the Lollipop update, the battery is dropping 3-5% per hour, without using it. Android OS and bluetooth dropped the most.
Dont tell me to make hard reset - I made it twice.
Its time to leave Samsung and work with a company that can give me what Samsung gave me until two years ago.
Samsung will need to convince me that it improved before I will return.
using bluetooth everyday with my car audio, and bluetooth headset never had any problem.
battery life never changed for me with any update. 6 hours sot generally.
maybe the Exynos is better.
The exynos is not any better, I had it for nearly a month, but returned it yesterday. Just like the op, I became a fan of samsung since I bought the S3 because of the removeable back and exchangeable battery, memory card support, and of course the tons of roms here on XDA. I was a HTC user (Desire and Desire HD). Now Samsung seems to be going that route, so it is time for me to look for alternatives, but can't find one I like at the moment. Worse comes to worse when there is no manufacturer making removable battery and sd card support, I will not buy samsung. I would rather but a NEXUS phone which will have updates from google. Heck my dauthers' 3 year old Nexus 7 toys are still running 5.1.1 without me doing anything.
I understand what you're saying. I have the Note 4 now, before that a few Nokias, an LG G3, Sony Xperia Z2, and before that, the Note 2 (best phone I had owned). I'm very disappointed in Samsung's issues. If Samsung doesn't fix this issue before I get a new phone in a few months probably, I'll ditch Samsung for good. Battery life is horrible. Camera is good in AWESOME lighting conditions, and in EVERY OTHER condition, it's SOOO grainy and terrible! Focusing isn't good. My 2013 Nokia 1520 took MUCH better pictures than this Note 4, except in good lighting. Also, 4 different roms (all official) and I still have that STUPID multitasking button delay. My Samsung tablet from 2 years ago is MUCH faster at bringing up the multitasking screen! 2GB ram and SD800 processor w/ same resolution!
I really hate to say it, but I am very disappointed in all the money I spent in this phone. I should have returned it when I had the chance ... Xperia Z3, or Z4 now... LG G4... Nexus 6. I know EVERY device has its issues, but I always need 2 things: Battery life and good camera performance. From ALL the reviews, the Note 4 had these... I really can't trust reviewers on youtube... I guess they must praise the Samsung devices or else they won't get review units before release... Meh....
I really hope Samsung can fix these issues....

No, even before updates ruined it, it was buggy from the get go. For example, I had the GPS tag problem right out of the box. When trying to take a picture, sometimes it wouldn't lock on to the GPS coordinates in time. Other phones will continue to try to find the GPS lock and then add it to the image a few seconds after the image is taken, but not the Note 4! That was a really big issue that was fixed with the update to Lollipop, but it brought along with it a whole slew of other issues. So no, updates didn't ruin it, updates fixed some things and broke others.
Returning back is not always smooth.
Any way - some of the updates are security updates so its a problematic not to update.
Yeah, I guess that will be my first and last samsung phone. Some months back I was unsure to get the nexus 6 or samsung note 4, because I wanted a bigger phone. Wish I had waited for the nexus 6...
Problem was not the hardware, that is really high quality and everything works like it should. Also batterie is fine, in most cases it was something else that kept the phone from sleeping, like google+.
Really awesome is the QI Case from samsung, so I can load wireless and it's protected (great quality!). Also the small window with infos
But the downside is the software and the efuse. I had many phones in my hands till now (it in our company) from mid/high end android, apple, tablets etc.
I NEVER had a software on a phone that pissed me off like samsung did. Compared to my nexus 4 I had before, the performance was abysmal. I knew TW was known to be slow, but I mean the cpu is fast as hell, 3 GB RAM etc. - that should count for something right? There is so much crap preinstalled and badly coded, it hurts.
Never wanted to root my phone, but I really needed to do it. With a custom mod and kernel it was a bit faster, also lolipop was better then 4.4.4 in subjective speed. But when I installed CM on the phone, I saw for the first time WHAT this piece of fine hardware can actually do. I also installed the same apps and no difference in speed. It was nice and fast like my nexus 4. Too bad I had to kick CM because of the bugs still around at that time. So it really is the software, nothing else.
My next phone will be a nexus again or - if good - something from LG, Sony or a Google play edition. If I could I would change it right now for a lg g4 or a nexus 6.
If samsung want's to be a real opponent to apple, they have to keep the changes to android at the lowest possible (like CM) and everything else as app. That would fasten updates by a wide margin. Also a business and private user brand with and without knox. And some kind of software selection system, that disables services or deinstalls them, if not needed like you won't need samsung link without a samsung tv.
So I see lots of people regretting the upgrade to 6.0.1 MM and saying they're not able to go back to 5.1.1.... So what's the consensus? Stick with 511 or upgrade to 601mm
Always has people complaint sths when upgrading OS , even with iOS. You know, we can't have a 100% bug free OS, i'm using 6.0 and have no issue
I just bought this phone (N910T) refurb, haven't used a Samsung since the S4 and was out of the loop with rooting and flashing it. I just went ahead and flashed it from 5.1.1 to TWRP & Cyanogen, then 6.0.1 (EPG2), then back to DOK2, then back EPG2. So far no problem.
The only issue I ran into was the GPS was crap and the data signal wasn't working half of the time. Opened up the phone and found the data antenna not connected fully, and bending up the GPS gold contact a bit, now both are working good.
I'm actually using this over my previous Nexus 6P. I was very biased against Samsung, especially for the build quality and Touchwiz. But using this with Knox removed, and all the features built in, I just realize no other phones offer the same features right now. I haven't used a phone that stay connected to T-Mo WiFi so well, maybe because it's a T-Mo branded device. Both my Moto X Pure and Nexus 6P gets cut out from it constantly. I can imagine getting the Note 7 next since it probably will drop in price due to the debacle.

What kind of features does it have that your 6P didn't, aside from the T-Mobile WiFi calling connection being better? The only feature that stands out to me is the S-pen, but that caters to a stylus user.
I've been contemplating going to the 6P since my Note 4 was crippled by the MM update. I have a friend that went to the 6P and doesn't miss his Note 4.

Probably a good idea to wait till the new Google Pixel is released for the 6P price to go down further.
It's really depended features you're looking for.
On the Nexus 6P side, it's is going to feel a lot snappier. The build quality is somewhat better. The dual speakers are going to sound better. The screen is slightly better too, unfortunately it's too blue. I like the Note ability to adjust the screen temp a bit without custom rom/kernel. The camera is clearly better and more detailed, however the Note 4 does better marco shot. Of course, the finger print scanner is much better. And overall signal quality, especially GPS is superior. It is less wide and will be more comfortable to use. The biggest plus of a Nexus is (reliable) monthly security updates. And of course, much much harder to brick and easier to fiddle with.
On the other side, I think Samsung multitasking is much better than stock Android, which does have dual screen on Android 7. I like the pop up window feature a lot. IR Blaster and MicroSD are a big pro. "Game mode" is important for me because some games lose a lot of frame rates with these 1440p screens. On the Nexus, I could change resolution to the entire system only, which mean texts will be less sharp, and it causes the App drawer button in some launchers to be off center. Use the wrong resolution and the phone can't boot -> factory reset. Also I like the pedometer and heart rate monitor. Mainly I like the fact that these features are well integrated into the OS and don't have to install third party apps to get them, which usually doesn't work as well.
My biggest dislike out of a phone is poor GPS and data performance, because I drive a lot. Unfortunately, the Note 4 have a bit off that, but not bad enough to be a deal breaker. Again T-mo WiFi Calling is one of main decider for me. Nexus 6P does have Project Fi and ability to work with all US carriers in one device, which is a big plus.

I honestly felt 6.0.1 ruined my gaming experience and overall was not as "quick" as 5.1.1.
With Samsung's Game Tuner and its related apps, and those apps and settings not being fully supported on the Note 4, that just hurt performance way to much. Source on that info is in the Game Tuner app. Now I should note, the apps do still function but, 5.1.1 without all of that game tuner stuff was much better for me in any game.
It isn't so much about that we can't have a 100% bug free OS, what it came down to was 6.0.1 is not as smooth as 5.1.1 on the Note 4, flat out. Overall tasks were laggy and 6.0.1 did not feel as polished as 5.1.1, noticeably IMO.
I have a 910T and can upgrade/downgrade from 6.0.1 and 5.1.1 as I please, so it is possible depending on your model.
I chose to stick with 5.1.1 for the above reasons.
My device is a original released (2 year old) T910 model.
So you've been able to downgrade 6.0.1 back to 5.1.1? That's great. That gives me an opportunity to test it out without fear of getting stuck.
After using the phone for a few weeks now, I decided the best thing is to downgrade to DOK2 (5.1.1), and use Debloater to turn off Knox and OTA update (com.wssynccmldm), also CleanMaster. Normally, on a stock Android device I would prefer the newest version, but for this device, there are too many bugs and some performance issues with 6.0.1.

a few months ago my trusty Laptop broke and I started using my Tablet again. After getting myself an ergonomical bluetooth keyboard and upgrading to Lineag 14 I fell more and more in love with it. I will go with Tab s2 9.7" since it close to your old device. I'm using 8.0 version. but to be honest i don't have any problem using it for the whole day. well at least not on very heavy usage. just normal work job word processing, excel and such. i rarely bring my notebook anymore. even presentation to customer will hook up the device to projector and present away. could last me at least around 8 hours heavy usage with around 10% battery left. hook up a fast powerbank it charge back in an hour.
Any way the problem here is the lack of development on lineage or custom roms nowadays. The exynos version T815 will have lineage. But if you have T819... which is the newer version of tab s2 release on 2016 still did not have any dev for lineage.

OP mentioned Lineage, and there are no ROMs out for the S3. Personally I won't but any device that does't have Lineage (previously CM). I actually just ordered a Tab S2 (T813) this morning to replace my Nexus 7 (2013). They dropped to $349 on Amazon this morning.
Same reason I bought an Honor 5x even though the 6x was out. When the OnePlus5 gets Official Lineage, that may replace my Nexus 5X.
Just saying that maybe a reason to go with the S2, just as there is ROMs available now.
S3 simply is a crappy value for money deal. Its 620 EUR around here for the 32 GB version. For aroud 500 EUR I can get an iPad pro 9.7. I am no apple faboy mind you, but according to all tests the iPad blows the TabS 3 out of the water in every aspect. Also in some benchmarks its supposedly around 150% faster. Also I get the slight feeling that the batterys of many samsung-devices start to degenerate shortly the warranty is over....
Even I, who is a big Android fan, would take the iPad in this case...
I'm in exactly the same situation.
I don't really care about the pen anymore, so I'm opting for the Tab S2 series.
However, LineageOS is still a problem, there doesn't seem to be anything for the Snapdragon model (T819) which is the one that's usually sold here.
Which phone will be more long lasting in terms that it will not slow down after Android or Interface (Samsung Experience, One UI) upgrades?
I'm looking between these 2 phones for the one that will have a better CHANCE for lasting 5 years being as quick and as “battery life good” AS POSSIBLE.
I think all of us know that the OEMs make our phones slower by patches, upgrades with attached algorithms to slowly month after month (so we couldn’t notice) shorten the battery life, slower the speed and make battery consumption bigger with sole intention for us to buy a new model next year or in the next 2 years.
BTW I don’t need the Pen and I don’t play any games and I don’t need a super good cam. EDIT: no rooting and no custom romming for me on that device for ever.
If I don't need the Pen why to bother with Note you may ask?
Well, I hope that Note being the business phone is going to be treated better by Samsung in the above terms than a Galaxy S phone, but maybe it’s the other way around?

i'm using a Tab S 8.4 SM-T705 LTE as a daily driver it's coming up to 5 years, it's still going strong! im rooted modded my Tab S is an awesome bit of kit!
Both phones you have suggested, can easily last past 5 years so it's up to you what are you reqiuremnets do you need a S-PEN ? or you into photography then go for the S10+
i'm planning on keeping my Note 9 for next 5+ years! that's if samsung dont put a hole in the display, for the next Note lineup, if they do then this is my last Note from samsung i'm ever purchasing!
if you dont mind the hole punch in the display? Then go for the S10+ as that screen on the S10+ looks awesome! i find it much brighter then the Note 9! Also i doubt i'll ever upgrade my Note 9 to ONE UI PIE 9 it runs super smooth on Oreo 8.1 so i'm sorted for the next half decade!

2: That screen is awesome i had a play with one wow it’s really sharp and bright it's an beautiful AMOLED display SAMSUNG nailed the S10+ display!
3: Dude there's nothing wrong with having a half a decade old device! (Please ignore keyboard warriors! Oh no he’s keeping a device for 5 years lol) When people see video playing on my Tab S 8.4 it's so sharp and bright they are shocked how amazing it looks not bad for nearly a 5 year old device!
4: its early days for ONE UI PIE 9 as i did install it only played with it for 24/48 hours! Man they have taken so much away really feels childish! i think Samsung thinks if they copy Apple they will become even more successful stupid way Samsung is going!

With all do respect it's harder to get hacked on 1) tablet 2) old 3) rooted and maybe custom romed 4) not so popular compared to the phones we're talking about

if i didn’t have the Note 9 i would have gone for the S10+ one thing i hate about these days smartphones batteries are not user removable! My Tab S 8.4 i could easily get 10+ hours out of it hard use!
Now i get around 3 or 4 hours that’s with just under 4000 chargers discharges!
So this time I’m not letting the note 9 drop below 20% and i try not to charge full 100% keep it at 80 or 90% i just want to see few years even 4 years down the road if the battery can give me a easily day use as it now!
Just be careful with battery charge discharges if you really want it to last 4/5 years!

I don't need to watch it. I compered these cams long time while being in a shop.
I don't care how great the winner is. The looser is still so good that I don't care about that.
And I said something about camera (read again please) for people not to try to suggest me getting a Xiaomi POCOPHONE F1 that has Snapdragon 845, from screens on the net it has a good camera and it costs 300 USD.

2: brilliant i only recently found out 20-80% battery theory!
3: That’s hard question wow I’m leaning towards the Note 9 due to Bluetooth S-Pen it's so cool and real handy in real world use! Plus Note feels more pro type of device! But after seeing the S10+ the other day! Sorry here I go again the screen i know i keep going on about the screen sorry i can’t get it out of my head it's so crisp bright! But the only true upper hand the S10+ has over the Note-9 is the camera setup and here i go again screen and off course the newer Exynos CPU!

3. I don't mind that you bring it up often cause I also was paralyzed when I saw and touched S10+ screen with my bare hands and it totally ruined my plans for quick decision making. I was mezmorized just like You and yeah the Note 9 ' 10nm Exynos vs. 8 nm Exynos in S10+ that makes it even more harder cause the seller told me it's the first Samsung SoC that took the idea of AI seriously, however I don't believe in this hardware-software AI marketing BS. It's just good software algorythms and all - like the ones that make photos better and find faces on camera app. The newer Exynos is just better case it's minus nm and its newer a probably better.
4. I'm shocked how we share very simillar experiance and way of thinking. My S8 was long on the shelf aswell. I agree with the rest.
5. Can You please tell me if I order Note 9 in 1h what are the names of these DEX devices to put into the cart that are for Note9 deigned. I will get a % off then. I don't have time to check it now on line cause there's too much of this and Samsung always changed something in names depending on which type of flagship and generation it was.
6. I share real conceirn about not accepting any update after potentially purchasing Note9 - cause the first will probably be the Pie+OneUI ****pack.

You said a couple of things (you don't need a pen, for note in this case, and don't need super camera, S10 in this other case) that for me means that you don't really need both of them and for the pen, this was the real deal that made a note the most reliable respect to others in business terms in all the years since this solution was adopted to a phone / faphlet making it more nearly to laptops or desktops in its business functions.
In business terms, less bugs is the right solution and to have this situation, that means less firmware updates and not the opposite because when having a lot of updates, that means mostly correction of bugs and not only monthly security pacthes....for example, passing from oreo to Pie only when Pie gets to be solid rock is right for the note because it's intended for business uses but not for the S10 because it's intended for people who wants mostly a new OS for the new functions and don't mostly care of some secondary bugs knowing that there going away in the next releases so they can wait. Seams ridiculess, but believe me that there are a lot of people that wants the beta versions (full of the wrost bugs) because they can't wait for the stable versions coming out.
Saing this, the bugs that can afflict a phone after a major OS update is equel to every model so battery drains, freezes, slowing down situations and other things can or can't happen equally to all and mostley bepends on the modifications (new launchers, apps in conflict with the new OS, ecc) made to the phone before the upgrade that goes in conflict and even depends on cash /data conflicts and corruptions so that's the reason why when having problems, wipe cash or data of the single app or of the entire phone resolves.
For the phone itself, the note 9 is the only one having a revolutionary cooper pipe cooling system that makes cpu and gpu working cooler and faster (less autotrotheling for to much heating... in other words, less cpu gpu frequency drop downs for heating protection ) and makes all being more durable and only for this, the note is the best since now, even more then the S10, and this should be even the answer of the title of this thread.
On the other hand, the S10 is the new model and like for the coming out of all new models, it's going to have new hardware solutions so better cameras, stronger and faster cpu / gpu respect to the older models. Notoriously, the note series having same hardware of the S series so the note 9 is basicly an S9 with a better cooling system (the first time happening) , bigger battery and screen and also having a pen with correlated functions...so, definitely, the choise is yours and depends on what you need or want.

1. I don't need a pen cause I'm not an artist, drawer, graphics guy. I bought a Stylus for S8 and I enjoy it and use it 1/3 of the time. Maybe I get addicted to S-Pen like many people as I've heard.

3. Do You think that upgrading S8 the first day Pie+OneUI came trough OTA and started lagging, 1-second freezing, not smoothing would never happen on the first day on Note9 and now after some time I could with no hesitation update Note9 and be sure that I will notice no drop in the 2. point areas?

I don't have time to check it now on line cause there's too much of this and Samsung always changed something in names depending on which type of flagship and generation it was.
6. I share real conceirn about not accepting any update after potentially purchasing Note9 - cause the first will probably be the Pie+OneUI ****pack.
7. Please tell me in short about Linux on Dex that you mentioned. What's that about?

So true! Once you see that screen on the S10+ man it's like a sledge hammer imprint on the brain! crazy how bright and really vivid + super sharp Samsung has pushed that oled panel to wow!
Yeah defo the Exynos in the S10+ is way better! Samsung is really pushing towards the AI side of things! I havent really read up on the 10nm vs 8nm will do sometime! Bixby they are pushing as there Ai, Bixby isn't that bad it comes pretty handy once you know the commands!
For Dex you need a USB-C - HDMI cable or you can purchase Clicky--> Samsung Multiport Adapter EE-P5000BBEGWW Also you will need a Bluetooth keyboard, and mouse, once all hooked up you got a full desktop experience!
Same with Linux witch can run in DEX so you got a full desktop O.S from your smartphone!
DEX is pretty polished off you can browse the web play games edit documents office etc. really you got a portable laptop in your pocket!

Yeah Dex first launched on the S8, S8+ it was a big deal for Samsung! They haven’t updated the page, it is compatible with the Note 9
I’m not sure if you can charger wireless, I do know it has inbuilt fan to keep your phone cool while in Dex mode... And it does charge the phone once docked!
Yes it is a gigabit Ethernet socket

Dude, one very important thing, a "expert" on the net and in real life calimed that:
- the DeX station for Note8 is exclusive in name and in destination
- the DeX for Galaxy S9 is exclusive in destination and name
So now let's focus is there a third type of Dex or a fourth and what it is name and what does it do and for which phone is it?

For 1. Pen is not mostly used for drawing reasons and normally it's used in many working fields and even in multy tasking environments and its the only way you can put an hand made signature in a document for example...
For 2. The response that you can have is mostley the same and if there's a difference, you will not be able to notice it if you don't put them both near to do the same things... So for me, this thing is worthless for deciding only if you consider it when phone is cold... Heat them by using them and, you can look if the note is faster because it's cooling system let's the cpu run on the same frequency as its cold...
For 3. The first version released of every OS is laggy whatever model you consider, Even for the note with Pie, then the other releases corrects buggs. Explained in my post why other things can happen and doesn't depend only for os having bugs by itself. OTA is the worst way for updating... better using a pc with smart switch or Odin.

Well, explaining some things could be to long so, for not going OT and for returning on the threads title and question, if the software is the same and offers same problematics , hardware is different and even if S10 has the most last hardware, the note has the most efficient cooling system ever made for a device and that makes more durability and also makes the device faster because not heating where others will causing, in the others, a decrease of cpu's frequency for overheating ... So, for me, note 9 is better.

I hope that Note being the business phone is going to be treated better by Samsung in the above terms than a Galaxy S phone, but maybe it’s the other way around?

In terms of business, the one thing Samsung takes seriously is Knox. This is irregardless of device.
Knox is what makes Samsung money once a device is sold to a business.
Want to build a custom APP using Samsung APIs or manage your Samsung device inventory, you have to pay Knox licensing fees.
One of the primary reasons you see security updates released for older devices is because multinational corporations and government outfits have thousands of Samsung devices in their possession. If we have a issue, we raise it with Samsung. They address it based on OUR severity versus THEIR OWN. If they don't, we go to the Carrier we purchased it from and apply pressure. Either way, internally or externally, the problem is addressed and the average consumer/enthusiast benefits.
