Auto-close battery draining apps not working - OnePlus 3T Questions & Answers

Ever since I've upgraded from Open Beta 4 to Open Beta 5 I can't toggle the option on. It's not greyed out but when I access the setting again, it's turned off. It also doesn't work as I receive notifications about battery draining apps.
The "lock" in recent apps view is not checked for the apps I get notifications for.
I've already wiped cache+dalvik but of no avail.
Does anyone else experience this? Any ideas on how to fix this?
If you need further information just let me know.
Cheers and thanks in advance!

Yes it a known bug,
Use the user feedback app to report the problem to Oneplus!

Now they've removed auto-close in open beta 6 completely.
Great.

Yeah, you're right. Didn't check that, thanks alot!
I've optimized all apps now - But how does that affect receiving notifications? Especially messaging apps?
I assume that they will still work if I don't use the advanced optimization, am I correct?

I think yes, but you can still disable apps from optimization.

Help with axon Elite, app notifications are not coming through in real time?

Evening all I am after a little help please I am new to this phone after having Samsung's for a long time and one thing that is bugging me is that apps that are real time e.g. whatsapp and anything with messaging are not getting the messages until I open the app and I am then flooded with messages? I have seen the options in the power menu for background apps but regardless of how I select the apps either on or off I still don't get the messages till I open the app?
Anyone else had this issue and know lof a work around?
Cheers
Hi! yeah, I had the same problem and I know more people is suffering the same experience. What I made was the following. Firstly, you should set the background apps in setting/power manager/manage background. Then, you have to make the same in Mi-assistant app/list of authorized and finally, you can install "Push Notifications Fixer" app from Google Play Store but be aware, because there are two versions of this app (rooted and not rooted devices). At this moment, my notifications come on time so, it's working pretty well.
Thanks so much for this I will check your advise out now.
The above isn't working unfortunately does anyone else have any suggestions?

Yes I have updated it twice in the week since owning it and it's done this on all versions
Did you check the APN settings?

No did not think about those as it did it automatically and for phone fiction as in call and texts it is fine but I will give them a once over to check, thanks

Where is power manager? I don't see that in the settings.(on 5.1.1)
Do you have 5.1.1 version in Axon Elite? Congratulations! You must be the only one. Rest of us have 5.0.2 version and in settings, you have an option with an icon battery. This is power manager or energy manager.

Hello, I have found an easy solution Here is the link, post number 5 http://forum.xda-developers.com/zte...n-mini-root-custom-roms-t3289640#post64791398
hi all well after speaking with ZTE support i performed a factory reset but prior to that they advised to clear cache on the apps with issues (not sure why) but this did help and for the first few days all was great but whatsapp is slowly getting more and more delayed? i have set all the power and start up options as advised also disabled the MI assistant but to no avail? so the reset may help others but for me this did not work.

At first try to add these apps to all possible whitelists of Huawei power management apps. It should not be cleaned by RAM manager and should be left not closed when screen is off. It helped here.

Yet another EMUI "feature". Hating when it happens to me as well, though I do have mixed luck with whitelisting the apk in question (where ever you can - why the hell do we have both the battery keep-running-with-screen-off feature, and the "ignore optimizations" crap? And what does this even do?).

Same here with Roboform password manager on Mate 9 with EMUI 5.0 . All system settings give it permission and exemption from optimization. But accessibility is turned off after a very short time of the phone screen being off. There has to be something strange going on.

Strange this has not been fixed.
IMHO Huawei or EMUI should let us manage the system whitelisted apps..
It is obvious that the phone administrator is not enough to ensure we can leave opened on background 100% sure some apps... My telegram app from time to time also appears stopped.. Mmmm "strange" but easy to solve for huawei's developers if they were interested in
So strange^2

Actually I have found that it is a feature not a fault. I rang up Huawei to ask for help.
What you need to do is go into Settings (swipe down from top, then cog wheel) > Battery > Close apps after screen lock
Then scroll down to your 'problem' app, and switch to off.
You might be surprised at the apps that have managed to get themselves set to off. I certainly was.

Even having setup properly battery optimisation to be ommited, keep open when close and whitelist on clean up sometimes telegram gets close... We all (or most of us) know.about that options to be setup but Huawei maintains a "hidden" apps whitelist like Google apps that are permitted to be run on background ... We know is not a big and we want to have full control of which apps.to permit 100% of time not decided by Emui. That's the point.

(How to Fix) Not receiving notifications fix!

With the way Huawei forces their "power saving" down our throats you are likely not getting all of your notifications for things like news apps and social media apps etc. I like their idea on trying to find ways to consume less battery, but man they are aggressive on the way they do it. Here is a fix that should work on all Huawei branded phones.
Step 1: First go to settings, advanced settings, battery manager and then to protected apps. Look for the app that you want to receive notifications from and then select "protect it".
Step 2: Go to settings, apps, advanced, ignore battery optimizations, then find the app and ignore it. This sounds kind of weird when you select ignore the app, but actually this means to allow it to run....... basically you are telling battery optimization function to ignore that particular app. Also known as "Doze"
Step 3: Go to settings, notifications panel & status bar, notification center, then find the app, then activate "allow notifications" and also "priority display". You must select priority or you won't get the notifications.
Works perfect for me. I spent countless hours trying to figure out why I didn't get notifications from my news apps and it drove me crazy. BTW....I have not experienced any battery drain at all.
PLEASE REMEMBER TO HIT MY THANKS BUTTON!!!
Solution already brought up on the 4th of July!

Hi, I have to say that Step 3 is not convincing.
Enabling priority display allow notification to appear during "do not disturb" mode. I don't want to be woke up during the night.

That is correct, but if you don't set priority you won't get the notification . Been there and done that ready. You can try not setting priority and see if works different for you, but when I turn off priority for the app I do not get the notification.
Please let me know if yours works differently as I am interested.

If you are right, then Huawei software developer must be brainless. For god sake, why on the earth getting a simple notification is so freaking complicated??
I'll try to set priority notifications, but even if it works it's not a solution for me.
I'll let you know man.
Thank you.
This one is working for sure, i found this solution out myself.
Push notifcations
To make push notifications work again create a widget (provided with the app) and place it on your home screen.
The widget will keep the services alive, even when you close the app in the taskmanager.
Make sure you toggle them on in the protected apps menu and put the powerplan on performance mode.
This works for all apps that came with the option to create a widget for it.

This sure would have been nice to have had this info prior to my 2 days of trial & error to get things working. As I do not receive or read all news outlets in regards to this phone, as is the case with many others, this was my sole purpose of my posting it here for others. In July I wasn't even considering this phone....actually I didn't even know this phone existed then. Another reason for my posting the info here. Luckily we have this forum as a go to place.

Thanks. I guess you can't individually exclude apps that show up there.
@Eggstones When I had aggressive doze and app hibernation ticked, the apps I excluded were not closed in the background - so what you did in the screenshot from post #7 should be enough. I never used "auto close high power usage apps", but I believe you should just leave it unticked.
