Twrp dubt - P8 Lite (2017) Discussion

Hi , i want root and install twrp but , can i , after unlock bootloader ,install twrp and root my device restore it later with stock firmware/recovery/rom/bootloader?
And how backup stock fw/bootloader/recovery from my unrooted device?

It's possible. I think you should do this... Before rooting, if you have not already done that, in TWRP, don't allow system modifications when it boots up. Then make a full backup(which is your stock rom unrooted) and save it. Then even after rooting, coming back to stock would just need a reflash in TWRP.

((SOLVED)) HTC one mini 2 Restore to factory settings with enabled OTA updates

can any one please share ? i'd like to get the OTAs badly. Rooted my phone, installed custom recovery, now i want to the stock recovery back, also i relocked the bootloader. Will this allow me to get OTAs normally after i flash the stock recovery back ? thanks.
I need version 2.16.401.5, thanks.
i tried flashing with the 2.16.401.1 recovery but getting "signature verify fail", could it be because i installed superuser with TWRP recovery ?If so, how can i fix it ?
EDIT: i guess i did it, forgot to unlock the bootloader, dont know why i locked it again lol, anyways, installed 401.1 recovery and did a factory reset. Is this it ? or do i need to unroot the device with supersu that i have installed and relock the bootloader ? I did not install any custom roms, so the rom is HTC stock, but i installed superuser with TWRP. Will this do any harm ?
Okay i did some research and i FIXED the problem and was able to get OTA update back.
this is what i did:
-Unlocked Bootloader (which i forgot obviosly)
-Installed TWRP (http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-mini-2/orig-development/recovery-twp-2-7-1-0-one-mini-2-t2801370)
-Downloaded original nandroid backup (thanks to Kativiti) (http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-mini-2/help/img-rom-ruu-request-t2847860) (nandroid backup: https://mega.co.nz/#!msthgIJB!WF5r4CwkXOg3Xda1YP_ESAKRNeY7AC5jkA_tIW65PwU
-made a recovery to show me where i need to copy the backup on my sdcard to
-copied the backup there and made a restore in TWRP
-then flashed the original bootloader back (thanks to: djluisbento) (thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-mini-2/help/request-original-recovery-img-t2809031) , also make sure you flash the 2.16.401.1 recovery because the nandroid backup is also 2.16.401.1 version. (stock recovery download: https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B4sLrKlVs0CPMXZMb2FJNGFOdEE&usp=sharing)
-after i did all that stuffs i was able to get the 2.16.401.5 update and it works flawlessly. And to not forget my CID is HTC__032.
Thanks guys for these files and thanks to this forum. You saved me, you are the best. Cant believe i fixed it so easily. May god bless you

Is it possible to root the lg g4 without installing a custom recovery

I've rooted a few phones in the past and what i tend to avoid is overwriting the stock recovery because i still want to be able to update ota the phone in the case that i want to and so far i haven't seen any tutorial on how to do that for the lg g4 .
Thanks in advance.

Yes, you can install root without a custom recovery. You can backup the existing recovery and install a custom recovery by using fastboot. So even if you install a custom recovery, you can return to stock. A custom recovery just makes fixing a broken phone easy.

How to install stock recovery/rom/unroot/relock bootloader?

Guys , I have to sell my phone, so, I decided to do all the necessary to have it stock..
So, the question is, how can I do this? I need the phone like when I bought it
You can do most of this via SRK Tool. If you can't relock bootloader then you can flash your stock update.app via stock recovery and that will relock your bootloader and get rid of root.
Please don't follow this for when you have Nougat beta installed though.
I currently have TWRP recovery.. How can I put stock recovery?
Is better to put 1st the rom and for 2nd the recovery or contrary?
Anyway thanks for answering me!
1. Backup (as always)
2. Flash stock recovery with flashify for example
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=529152257862669572
3. Flash stock Rom b182 with dload-method
http://download-c.huawei.com/download/downloadCenter?downloadId=91783&version=358257&siteCode=de
Now your Bootloader is relocked and everything is stock again (I hope so)

Bootloop after twrp restore - twrp-3.2.3-1-payton.img

Summary:
1. Flash factory image onto phone successfully
2. Install twrp and make a backup
3. Restore backup after reboot and I'm stuck in a bootloop
I have a new fi Moto x4 running Android 8.1 that I'm attempting to set up. I've reset this phone a bunch of times so here is the standards process:
1. Flash factory firmware as shown in this thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x4/how-to/guide-how-to-flash-official-factory-t3808348
I'm using: PAYTON_FI_OPW28.46-13_subsidy-DEFAULT_regulatory-DEFAULT_CFC.xml.zip
2. After flashing, start up the phone and it works fine.
3. Reboot into the bootloader and boot to twrp using: fastboot boot twrp-3.2.3-1-payton.img
4. Copy in the twrp install file using: adb push twrp-installer-payton-3.2.3-1.zip /sdcard
5. Install the zip via the twrp Install function
6. Reboot the phone into the bootloader then start recovery
7. Use the twrp Backup function to create a backup of the Boot, Data and System partitions on Internal Storage (plenty of space).
8. Reboot the phone into the bootloader then start recover
9. Use the twrp Restore function to restore the backup. Finishes fine.
10. Reboot phone to system but the load won't finish. Phone just alternates between the Android One and the Motorola splash screens. Left it for an hour at one point just to be sure. No love.
Things I have tried:
1. Using twrp via fastboot boot and a hard install
2. Making backups to the internal and external memory cards
3. Changing the partitions in the backup
4. Wiping everything except the external sim card before performing a restore
If anyone has any thoughts I would love to here them.
Thank you!
I'm having a similar problem and found this old thread. I am on stock pie rooted and made a twrp backup this morning so that I could try flashing some custom ROMs. After successfully installing a custom ROM I attempted to restore the backup and return to stock but just get bootloop. I am able to get back to to twrp and the phone will boot after a factory reset, but even if I just restore data I get bootloop. I'm wondering what I am doing wrong with restoring the backup. Any thoughts? Thanks.
I have the same problem as you are. After I finished install all applications, I made a backup with twrp-3.2.3-1-payton. Then next day I restore it from the backup, after finished backup, it goes to bootloop forever. My version is OPWS28.46.21.12, I download stock rom OPW28.46-13 but afraid to flash this rom since it is the lower version might be break the phone if not backward compatible. Then I search the web and found your message and follow this side fund a higher version of the stock rom OPWS28.46-21-14. I download it and flash it. After flashing complete and boot up, it saying new OTA update available, I don't want to update the rom since I want my phone rom version is same as the stock rom I have downloaded into my PC just in case in the future I accidentally doing something wrong I can flash back the stock rom without worrying the backward compatibility problem.

I'm a bit slow on the response - but my first thought is manually flash stock rom over your restore without wiping data
I'm able flash the latest stock rom of FI_9.0_PPWS29.69-26-4 and reinstall twrp-3.2.3-1-payton. Then I restore data only that backup from previous rom, I get bootloop again after restore the data only from TWRP. The I reflash FI_9.0_PPWS29.69-26-4 again, install twrp and root it with Magisk. Restore data from cloud google drive automatically. And this time is successfully without bootloop.

Restore and re-install

After I unlocked the bootloader, and before flashing anything, I did a full complete backup using TWRP. After that, I installed a custom ROM. Now I would like to restore back the stock ROM using TWRP. If I would like to install a custom ROM sometime down the road, is it necessary to flash the copy-partition again?
I tried doing the same thing as you and when I tried to restore de TWRP backup it failed completely, the phone was not bootable. I had to restore it with Lenovo/Motorola Rescue Assitant.
I have flashed numerous custom ROMs and for safety, I always flash the copy-partition first. Never had an issue.
