Charger for ZE550KL - Zenfone 2 Laser Accessories

My stock charger is not working anymore. The phone doesn't charge when connected to it. Anybody know any way to get a company original with reasonable price ?

Buy any new 2A charger. It will even charge your phone a little faster than the stock charger. I am using Samsung Galaxy Note 4 charger. It charges my Zenfone 2 Laser a bit faster due to its high power.

But it is not good for the phone right ? The input is designed for only 1.35 A. A higher current could damage the phone. For how long have you been using it and is there any reduction in battery life ?

I have been using it for roughly 2 months and didn't notice any degradation in performance. I hope it doesn't blast one day.

But when I use a 2 amp charger, after removing it from charger, the charge drops very quickly, even on standby. For me it lost 30 percent after 2 hours on standby. Also the phone gets heated up on charging. Now I use 1 amp samsung charger. It works fine and no problems. Battery backup is greater than ever and the phone does not heat up on charging. Try it.

For anyone in India still facing the problem, now I use a Jio-Fi router charger. 5 V and 1A. High quality product. Phone battery has no problem. Just like old times. Model ZE550KL (Z00L).

In the end of the graph after a blank(Switched off) and little charging time, I removed the charger and tried draining the battery, it went down from around 50% to 15-20% and came back again to 50% without any charging, it kept on happening for 3 to 5 times straight and i got sleepy in the end, then reset dalvik and cache, and it was normal again.
had a pretty fun time considering it's a 2 years old battery.

Quick charger Killing My Battery

I have been using quick charger to charger my N6 since I got this phone in 12/2014. I had no problem until recently my phone will power off itself when its battery gets to 15%. Before, 15%of better life will lasts me another 15-30 mins. I charges 2-3 times a day using quick charger and I think it's killing the battery!!! Anyone had similar issue?

and what evidence do you have thst the quick charger is "killing the battery"? i mean wheres your proof? i think doesnt prove anything. your battery stats just need to ne recalibrated.
How do I recalibrate?
Dude... Your battery is almost 1 year old... It's normal for the battery to start going weird with normal use between a year and 18 months however, you charging the phone 2 to 3 times a day isn't great and is likely a cause for your issue... I charge mine once a day.
There is a thread somewhere here in The N6 forum to possibly fix your issue.

lol, no. thats a battery stat, and ive seen them much wierder than yours. that has no evidence that charging using the default supplied charger is destroying your battery. but.. it might show that you have an issue, just not the issue that you think it is.

I'm just trying to figure out what happened. I know you said about battery calibration; but why my phone dies at 30%? I think I might need a replacement!
Its a nexus 6 thing, the internal power supply hardware for this phone is cheap and "just enough" to power the phone. When the voltage on the battery drops from being drained the cpu shuts down as a fail safe, the 5.1 update "fixed" the issue by underclocking the cpu and gpu at 40% battery (iirc) and unplugging cores at <20%. Many custom kernels remove this for performance boosting but then some phones run into the power supply issues usually in the lower binned chips (ones with higher voltage tables). Age likely doesn't help anything and a quick charge probably doesn't either. There's a big post about it on the zen kernel thread.
It's more of a Nexus thing. My N7 2013 does this all the time. Happened only a few months after release. Download an app called Battery Calibrator. Can't remember if I got it from here or from the PlayStore. It requires root access.
So.....are you on a custom rom or stock? If custom rom there's your problem right there, check for an update. If on stock also make sure your on the latest build. If all else fails do a factory reset. If problems persists just put in a warranty claim with Motorola.

Tronsmart USB rapid car charger, 2 port

This is my review of the Tronsmart USB rapid car charger. This is a Qualcomm 2.0 rapid charge charger with 2 ports. It comes with 2 USB cords as well in the box, which was a nice surprise. The Note 5 does recognize this as a "rapid charger".
I got the rapid charger to try out and compared it to an OEM Samsung USB charger. I found that the Tronsmart rapid charger charges at a rate of about 1% per minute. This is pretty good. If you take a 10 minute car ride, you will gain roughly 10% to 12% charge. This can be very useful to get a quick juice-up when needed. The Samsung charger charges at a slightly lower rate, about 7% charge gained over 10 minutes.
I should clarify that this testing was done with the phone around 70% to 80% charged already. I still plan on testing out the charge rate with a more drained battery (under 50%) and will report back as to how quickly it charges then.
The charger seems well built. It is nice and compact, and gives you not just the one rapid charge port, but 2. I highly recommend it. 10/10 here.

UPDATE: Just to let you all know how well the rapid charger works when the battery is low. In 15 minutes, my phone went from 19% to 41%. That is a 22% boost in just 15 minutes, which is about what a short drive around town would take for me. I am more than satisfied with that.

Nice charger, could you send the product link to me? Want to buy one. How about the quality of the cable?
I have the same charger and really like it. As someone who frequently travels with a couple Note 5's in the vehicle, this is a no-brainer. The USB cables are thick, 10/10 from me as well.

Also, I can definately confirm that both USB cables are big-gauge (20 AWG!), high-quality cables.

Are you using the official cable or a different one? Also when you go in the battery settings and advanced settings, do you have the fast wireless charging disabled or enabled?

When I called T-Mobile yesterday they advised me to turn off fast charging because of the possibility of the battery getting hot and exploding. I have always be cautious since day one and turned off fast charging because my phone would get warm but charges pretty fast without fast charging enabled. Also when I'm at work, I only use wireless charging even if it takes longer. What I noticed is that sometimes when I use wireless charging with the case it gives me issues so I take it off.
3.5 Ah battery capacity, fast charge should be around 2 Amps, take into account slower charge rate towards end, I would say OP is just where he should be, if started charging from empty. I've seen my phone going over 2A, sometimes, but that's like extra bonus. Also we don't know what's running in background, that could be affecting charge rate also.

If it is similar to Note 4 then fast charging kicked in from 0 to 50% with charging current around 1.6A and 9V and from 51 to 100% regular 2A and 5V to let battery recover. There should be specs on sticker on phone charger.

Intentionally trickle charge?

It seems that I can't get Battery Care to trigger consistently at night even though I always go to bed somewhere between 11-1 and get up at 7 on weekdays or 9ish on weekends.
I realized though that I happen to have a pretty slow 500 mA USB port charger from back in the day. If I go to bed with the phone at 20% it would take over 4 hours to charge, meaning the phone spends less than half the night at 100%. Maybe this is the next best thing?

How fast does it charge? I have not seen any evidence of anyone being able to charge the X Compact any faster than about 1%/minute which is not super speed by any measure.
@cmstlist I'll try to check it out next time I charge. Feels pretty fast, but then again my previous phone was Z1c...
I usually get battery care where night time is the the first major charge of the day (sadly that's not always the case since I'm getting pretty disappointing battery life my Xc came with stock 7.0...).
I'm using the UCH-12 (supplied), have similar hours to you. When it turns on it reports a plan to be @100% 2hr~ before I wake up.
I was actually wondering is this feature any good (theoretically at least) or just voodoo?
Mine came with UCH 20 rather than 12. So far I'm never needing to charge it all day if I started at 100. Sometimes it's above 60 by bedtime so I don't start to charge it until morning.
Sent from my SM-T320 using Tapatalk
For what it's worth, here's a graph of how the UCH 20 charges it with Battery Care. Normal speed until 90%, flat until almost wake time, then up to 100.

32% -> 88% in 64min 1%/1.14min WITH screen-OFF usage (Music stream w/ WIFI+BT headset + WhatsApp web).
It started faster @ 1%/0.9min then I guess I used it more/slowed down on its own.
NO battery care triggered.
That's pretty good for me, being able to use the phone and still charge fast.
Yeah so it seems like the fastest it'll charge under any circumstances is slightly above 1%/min.
Sent from my F5321 using Tapatalk
So the battery care only works with certain Sony chargers?
Sent from my F5321 using Tapatalk
For what it's worth, Battery Care will trigger with any kind of charger, even a slow trickle. So even if in only charging at 1%/3mins, it'll still plateau at 90% for a while.

Alternative car dash chargers?

Wondering if anyone knows of any decent 3rd party car chargers for automotives?
Try checking out Aliexpress. I have ordered some dash cables and chargers off them and they look pretty good.
Never ordered one myself as this is my first OP device, but from what I've read the Baozu ones do work, and end up cheaper than first party. But with the battery life I'm getting now I'm not even sure if I'm gonna need one, love this thing so far!
If you can get hold of an Oppo VOOC charger, they're literally the same thing (same company, same charging tech), but you'll need a proper dash cable to go with it as Oppo use MicroB still.

That is what I thought, until I took a long road trip.
With the phone doing navigation, music streaming AND providing a WiFi hotspot, the battery was draining faster than my regular charger could keep up. At the end of an 8 hour drive the battery was empty (it started full).
I bought one on Amazon and it works great.

Pretty sure that shouldn't happen with any good charger. I feel like you probably had a cheapo that was only pushing like 0.5A or something.

Normally, I would agree with you, as it sounds improbable that a phone could continuously draw more power than a charger provides over a prolonged period, but as I say, it definitely happened. I was using a good quality Anker 2.4 Amp charger (amazon SKU B00D82O68Y), though it is possible that my phone (a OnePlus 3) had not correctly detected it and gone into some sort of trickle charge mode.
I think it was the WiFi hot spot that made the difference. I routinely drive alone with my phone doing both navigation and music streaming, but on this occasion I had three other people in the car using their tablets to surf the internet. Another possible factor is that there was bright sunshine, so the automatic screen brightness would have gone to maximum.
Anyway, I have ordered one of the non branded dash chargers from Ali-Express. I will report back with it's performance when it arrives.

Oh, yeah, that makes sense. Active GPS + Screen + hotspot + (presumably) bluetooth = a ****-ton of energy consumption. I'm not amazed it would fail to keep up with that.
