Massive Storage not working in T813, computer does not detect - Galaxy Tab S2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello fellas,
I have a problem with my brand new T813 running the latest official firmware available (Android 7).
Massive storage is not working, my computer running Windows 10 with updated samsung drivers has failed to detect it. The device charges, but I am unable to modify the usb options, regardless the choice MTP always remain.
I have tried with three different cables, all of them work fine with my S7, the computer never detects the device, eventhough it's charging. This means it is not a problem with the device's micro usb port. I have the latest drivers, and I have also tried with all usb ports. None of them seemed to do the trick.
The computer has faulty usb 3 drivers, ever since I have installed Windows 10, the speed is not what used to be with the previous configuration. I have the same drivers, I don't understand what's wrong.
Any help would be appreciated, I have tried most solutions mentioned on this community and they didn't work. I can't flash the device because it is never detected. The problem still persists after a restablishment via the menu.

[UPDATE] 06/08 11 AM
Left the device at SAMSUNG ARGENTINA repair shop. Also had to pay 300 pesos (around 20 dollars) as a diagnostic fee, they told me that if I accept the repair cost later on, they would discount the 300 pesos I have paid out of the total price. And if I don't, they will keep the money.
Will update again when Samsung calls me in a couple of days. Maybe this monday, I hope so.
[UPDATE] 06/08 15 PM
I have just received an email from BGH, which is the SAMSUNG ARGENTINA official partner for repairs. They told me that the problem is a FAILURE on the SUB board.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Micro-USB-C...g-Galaxy-Tab-S2-9-7-034-SM-T813-/322414846816
The good thing, is not that expensive. The bad thing, this tablet hasn't arrived officially to Argentina, and since it has been bough in Chile, the guys at SAMSUNG ARGENTINA had to request an international order replacement, which I have been told it could take some time. But they will eventually get the piece.
Will update again.

What does device manager report when the device is connected?

Sure you don't have ADB enabled? Disable developer settings and try again.

Thanks for replying, please refer to first screenshot. No Mass Storage option appears after connecting device. MTP option seems to be forced, i am unable to change it.
The tablet is brand new, but the guy who sold it to me said that it has always been working. He even told me that it has been barely used, and that the device is recognized when connected to an usb audio system. It has been upgraded to 7.0.1 a couple of days ago, maybe that's the problem.
I have just tried with a macbook air and it didn't detect it either, it is only charging. The same computer has detected my S7.

Modern devices don't use mass storage anymore, they use the MTP protocol.
You should see your storage folders pop up in my computer.

Thanks for replying. ADB and USB debugging activated, I have also performed a factory reset and the problem still persists.
Using a microSD didn't help either.

Sadly nothing at all, the device only charges via usb. This is very confusing because the guy who sold it to me said it was working, but he has also said that he has never plugged it in a computer.

I have tried with a mac and nothing has happened, it is only charging. The same computer has detected my s7.
A lot of people seem to have experienced this problem, the remaining solutions I didn't try are using other pc or try cleaning the female port with isopropilic alcohol. Hope it does the trick, otherwise I'm screwed.
I will try at work tomorrow.

That is the problem, when I connect the cable nothing happens, it is only charging. Windows doesn't even detects it as an unknown device and neither does mac osx.
I didn't know mass storage is not used anymore, I think my S7 does have it and it works. I will try at work tomorrow.

When the problem appears with different USB cables and in different computers, as in your case, you have to look into the possibility that it may be a hardware issue.
I hope I'm wrong about this, but it sounds like the DATA+ or DATA- pin is damaged in your micro usb socket (pins 2 and 3, see http://pinouts.ru/PortableDevices/micro_usb_pinout.shtml)

Yes, I'm afraid it could be a hardware problem. But that would also mean the guy who sold it to me is lying. I have to say it, the device looks like it has been treated with care. However, i have noticed the plastic has worn out a little near the usb port, those black marks could indicate not so much care when plugging or unplugging the cable.
I hope we are both wrong about this. Tomorrow i will know. Fixing this is a pain in the ass, right?

¡Che! Replacing the microusb receptacle would not only be a pain the ass, but if you make a tiny mistake while soldering or desoldering you can end up with a bricked tablet.
Anyway, let me know what you find out tomorrow, good luck boludo.

Actually not too bad as the Micro USB port is a module and can simply be swapped out.

[Q] USB charges off PC, but doesn't connect in mass storage mode

So this seems to be the same problem lot of people are facing and solving it by various means... Here is a list of things I have tried, but still not working -
1. connect to PC after selecting "connect to pc" in settings > more > usb connection
2. revert to stock rom and stock kernel using mobile odin and try to do (1)
3. restore nandroid from 2 months ago when it was working
4. cleaning with qtip (dry)
5. tried usb switcher app
6. tried newest jb 4.1.2 from eyebee's thread.
Any thing that I left out other than service center?
Usb Fix
I fixed two other Notes and a SII by this simple method:
Look into the microusb connector on your phone, and see if the pin in the middle is centered. If not, bend it straight (Carefully!).
Yes, I know it sounds stupid, but it seems people just slam the usb connector into the slot, bending it down... This causes the phone to charge but not to see the usb connection.
Hope this helps.

By default its placed a bit down and forcefully bending it may damage the usb port and then you cant even charge it
Thankfully its still charging...

Hmm.. Something new you taught me, but didn't work.. Am I supposed to go "into" that mount usb storage screen and connect after I am in that "if you leave this page, we'll unmount" screen or before entering that screen?
Edit -
Never mind, tried both, both failed to work. I assume if it was working, I would have heard a beep from my laptop at least.. It didn't find any new device in both cases.

You might be on to something here - It says Charging (USB) even if connected to wall socket! Should it say (AC)?

yes I am. even though the phone when normally booted won't be recognized by pc, but when in download mode, it usually does as I have had the same problem but that happens to me since I enabled the mass storage mode and then neither worked. mtp or mass storage.

I have the same problem here with my n7000.
Its happened after flashing ics roms. N7000's have some kind of faulty chips which causes emmc brick bug. But the issue we're having is a USB Brick.
Flashed many kernels & roms etc. but still no signs of life :crying:
Different cables & pcs, no luck..
As we are able to use mobile odin only, i flashed stock GB and sent for warranty. I always avoided to trigger binary counter so it was easy for me.
However, results were disappointing. Technician guy said that usb port is working and there is connection between both devices but something blocks usb connection. There were some unremovable files which shouldnt be there and they couldnt delete it as the section was read only accessible.
ADB isnt functioning too..
I guess the only possible way is to find a tech guy capable of replacing emmc to solve the issue from source..
Please let me know if there are any updates from your side.

[Q]Hardware bricked USB connector or just software prob?

Hello,
few days ago I've got my USB OTG cable. So, when I connected this OTG cable to my USB HUB through USB cable with 2 sides of type A port (pic here : http://www.cyfronika.com.pl/art93/kab120aa-l.jpg) to get power on HUB from USB port charger but nothing happened on phone with flash storage, any notifications or something. Then, when I wanted to transfer some files from my computer to sdcard. I've connected USB cable but Windows 7(32-bit) says that my device can be damaged or something (code 43). I've searched about this and found this http://pcsupport.about.com/od/errorc/a/code-43-error.htm . I've used http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21503469 for setting up the OTG and for kernel too.
Well, I've followed this tutorial but the error still appears. Tried on 3 computers with different cables and different USB ports.
So just tell me if it's software problem or I must do something with this.

So the general idea is, you're trying to let your phone connect to other hardware while the phone is the host, right?
Now you're trying to connect your computer to your phone again normally and it's not working? (normal usb cable)
For one, there are a bunch of errors in the log you posted, thinks like
Code:
W/PackageManager( 353): Unknown permission android.permission.ACCESS_SUPERUSER in package hu.sztupy.android.usbhostcontroller
That might be a problem, I don't know. Perhaps you're better off asking the dev of this mod about these errors. Maybe there's something you forgot or wasn't mentioned in your guide that causes these?
Have you also considered the possibility your phone is now *always* trying to be the host (which is not going to be something a pc likes)? You're saying you can't properly connect with your pc any more, but can you connect with another device (usb stick for example)?

Problem with OTG&USB N950F

Hi everyone
here I've got a terrible issue with my note 8 and SAMSUNG USB OTG.
When I connect my otg and a flash memory to phone, nothing happens, unless you force restart the phone while the otg is connected. After booting I can access to my flash memory but after removing the otg and reconnecting it, again nothing happens unless force restarting.
I've tried everything possible. Downgrading, upgrading, 4 files rom, pit file, rom from different zones, but still have the problem. I have no other issues regarding the USB port and charging, fast charging, connection to computer and any other stuff works fun but this OTG.
I wanted to know if anyone have any solutions for my problem or if anyone had the same issue or not.
it is also worth to mention that I have not rooted my phone due to warranty issues, and for that I haven't tested any kernels.
thanks for everyone

Nope, I have developer options enabled but debugging isn't on. never had to enable file transfer.
When I plug in the OTG device I see a usb icon in the notification panel. Swipe down and pick explore. Mind you it only opens in the stock file explorer, I did have another file explorer that picked it up too but can't think what it is and it has been lost myriad of other apps I test and play with...
Just be aware that it may take a few seconds to scan the device, depending on size, and then display the icon.

also you neglected to mention the file system the USB was formatted with, i believe only FAT, FAT32 and exFAT are supported

also possible that the phone doesn't like your OTG adapter. I bought a usb 2.0 to type C adapter which doesn't even work on the phone - when I plug it in usually the moisture sensor error comes up saying water is in the device and I should let it dry. Unplug the OTG and the error goes away.
So... I bought a USB 3.0 A to type C OTG adapter and that one works fine with everything I've tested (usb flash drives, keyboard, usb ethernet adapter, etc)
I believe the USB-C to USB-A adapter that came with the phone is actually an OTG adapter (tested xbox360 controller and keyboard)
I also believe that the note8 can host usb flash drive native (no need for OTG cable) as i have a dual head USB-C and USB-A flash drive which is recognized once the USB-C end is plugged in

Sorry to dredge up a semi old thread, but has anyone found a fix for this?
I'm having almost the same issue, I finally decided to try out the OTG adapter from the box and nothing works, it isn't even recognized. Tried ps4 controller, mouse, keyboard 2 different thumb drives. Can't figure out what the deals is.
Other than that pc connection seems to work and charging works fine. TIA
I'm having a similar problem. A month ago, used both OTG adapters (original from Samsung and a generic one) it detects my memory sticks as a hard-disk and was able to manage my files. But since a couple of weeks ago it does not detect them anymore. Is like it did not supply charger to them anymore. I have tried the USB debugging menu and no difference at all. Even I got back to factory reset expecting to solve the issues but nothing happened. The port as such is working perfectly because I'm able to charge through it. On the other hand, Samsung DEX is not working as well. It just charges the phone but never boot-up.
I'm just waiting for Oreo and hopes this will sort the problems out.

Seems to be a little bit dusty. Anyway, the other thing is that, when the Usb is detected it ask to choose between transfer files, images, midi device and so on, even if I choose "transfer files" mode it always get stuck as "charge connected device".
Hi i have the same problem... my note 8 can connected mith my notebook, but my otg with an usb stick cant recognize my note8. I test the same otg with usb stick on my friends phone example S8 and it detects promptly all.
I hope the fixing take not long time. I waiting for help. Greets
Well, adding one more case here, my native file manager doesn't recognize any memory connected via the original otg conector, but, using x-plore file manager, problem solved, as I use x-plore since my symbian days, I never gave this issue much importance, this problem was present also with my note 7

Hi, Thanks for the guide, but I can't pass from step 6 in which I need to install the Mi Drivers but no PC recognizes de phone, not even in fastboot mode, see screenshot. Any other ideas? I can still charge it and listen audio trough the usb port. Thanks in advance.
Edit: I've hard reset the phone and the problem still persist.

Thanks for the update.
Go into Step 7, with the device connected, and install the drivers manually.
So, in this scenario, you'll right click on the device and browse to the location where you downloaded the drivers.
I need to know what happens if you try and install them manually.

Hi, I can't actually do step 7 because it doesn't recognizes the phone as an Android device like in the guide, but as an:
Unknown USB Device (Error Device Descriptor Request Failed) see attached screenshot.
Even when I select this Unknown USB Device and tried to update de driver manually, the installation fails. (see attached screenshot) .
I've changed cables and tried on different ports of different PCs. Same result. Also by entering Developer Options and accessing the USB settings won't work, there are all greyed out.
@egantz09
Thank you for your efforts and feedback.
Based on the details, I would strongly suggest you initiate a return. You've taken all the appropriate steps, and then some, to address the problem but it's obvious the issue exists with the device hardware.
I am happy to provide further instructions but what concerns me is the fact you've tried multiple PCs and multiple cables.

Sadly I'm still waiting for the replacement to arrive...I'm in Cuba. But other people with similar problems have solved them by replacing the USB port. Good luck.

if you followed all of the instructions and steps in this post and the problem continues, then you should return your phone.
I already changed my USB port. My warranty is void
If your phone was in warranty you should have returned it, changing the USB port was your final option. Now you should take it to a service center. Good luck,

I replaced my usb port today, still no luck, I tried 3 different ports (I bought 3), It charges with all of them but no USB connection to PC or OTG. I'm thinking its the mainboard. Could it possibly be the FLEX connector?
This is a big problem with 2 MI A2 for me
Since that problem i hate Xiaomi and never Xiaomi product to bey
I have the same problem ... My phone only charging when i connected via USB to the PC... I change USB board and i still have the same problem... I can't choose any options.. only charging.. any help how to solve this problem ? Thanks

I waited 3 months for my USB port replacement and it did the same thing, now I'm waiting for the flex connector, if that doesn't work either, then its a problem with the motherboard.
I ended up replacing the entire phone and a few months later this phone now has the same issue.. this is horrible. Especially with no USA support from Xiaomi. Its a "deal with it" situation.
But i believe the use of crappy chargers, debris getting into port, maybe Qualcomm quick charge modules design flaw could be sending unsafe currents or lacking proper temp regulation when charging,, is damaging something on the main board. I checked every possible software related possibility and tried every fix with no luck.
What i did notice when it happened this time, chargers were not staying connected, they would pop out due to debris in the charging port, also i noticed my phone got pretty hot using a Qualcomm QC enabled charger one night. Nothing else was suspected of generating heat, all apps closed, screen had been off.
I everyone... Where i can buy an usb port?? My A2 is not charging, trying at least 4 different cables and chargers,
Tks

Question Windows USB recognition

My new device is not being recognised by the cable which came with the device, but if I use a Samsung cable it works. Weird part is that that the Samsung device gets recognised by the Mi cable.
Any suggestion on how to solve this?
EDIT: The connection is not stable.
Reboot... always reboot.
Try a different port.
One or both cables may be bad.
Check Windows Event Viewer for error messages.
Use Disc Management>scan for new devices to detect/open new drives.
Check drivers in Hardware management, install new or try a roll back.
Yeah, those things I had done.
EDIT: Samsung device has no issues, stable connection.
No error messages?
You the time index there to sync when you attempted connection.
If not showing in Disc management, it's the cable, the device, the port or the driver.
Did the phone show a popup for the connection attempt? Check phone settings/permissions.
Try safe mode on the phone.
Probably something you overlooked, try to trace it out. Reboot everything... reboot, reboot etc.
Cables can appear to work but in fact be defective... lol, 2 bad cables don't make a good one. Generally the stock Samsung cables are long lived. Avoid using long cables.
Google this issue for this model and other models by the same manufacturer.
Play with it, eventually you'll find the issue... first attempted hookup, anything goes. Nice when it's seamless but not always
The phone does not show any prompt with the MI cable, no detection by Windows. Only with the spare Samsung cable.

Then the phone isn't hand shaking. Could be a phone hardware issue, firmware or a simple settings misconfiguration. Inspect C port for damage or debris.
Try on another PC with a known good cable. Process of elimination, isolate the problem.
I don't have another pc to check. right now.. and it's a new phone.

I hear you. You need to verify the phone is good or return it. Might be worth letting a local repair shop look it over and see if it connects for them.
A little hands on can go a long way.
Maybe someone here has seen this issue on this model and has a better plan...
I just tried with a USB hub and the phone gets recognised.... I haven't seen anything like this before.
Sounds like a driver issue.
Well... I have tried different drivers... Maybe I am missing the correct one.
You tried letting Windows find the best driver?
If that device manufacturer has a PC app for transferring files, backup, loading that or extracting its driver would probably fix it.
Yes, but I don't think it's a driver issue. Windows can identify the device correctly, just not directly. Mi PC Suite does not recognise the device.
EDIT: Ah, that's a very old and not updated suite.
does it get detected as a samsung device when you reboot into fastboot? if yes, ignore, i have the same problem, but it will continue to work just fine. If it's outside of fastboot then i have no idea.
I haven't tried fastboot yet. Only the normal windows USB connnection.

If you connect using Windows Disk Management you can access the drive directly from there.
That's all I use on the PC for this. I open two windows there to do transfers.

Thanks, I have been able to connect it to PC using USB hub and even things like the debloater app is working. Still don't know what the issue is though.

Sounds like a driver issue; the hub has the right driver but the PC does not.
Something is not configured correctly on the PC.
Check Event Viewer again, Security.
Fun isn't it?
Do some Google searches ie Redmi Note 10S, not handshaking with PC
Might find something you overlooked.
I solve all my problems either playing with or doing Google searches. Just add XDA on the end of a search to find topics on XDA.
Those pervasive web crawlers can be helpful...

Yeah, there is definitely some configuration issue. As the phone gets recognised indirectly, I will assume that it is ok.
The place from where I bought initially said that this phone does not support PC...
