Help, Mi A2 USB problem! - Xiaomi Mi A2 / 6X Questions & Answers

Hi, phone works OK, it also charges BUT doesn't connect to any PC (windows detects device with description error?), usb OTG not working either, only headphones using type c adapter. Please help, I'm using stock pie with February update, unrooted, blocked bootloader and with usb debugging enabled.

@egantz09
Disable USB Debugging.
Install this driver (and please follow the instructions):
https://c.mi.com/thread-1625831-1-1.html
Test.

Hi, Thanks for the guide, but I can't pass from step 6 in which I need to install the Mi Drivers but no PC recognizes de phone, not even in fastboot mode, see screenshot. Any other ideas? I can still charge it and listen audio trough the usb port. Thanks in advance.
Edit: I've hard reset the phone and the problem still persist.

Thanks for the update.
Go into Step 7, with the device connected, and install the drivers manually.
So, in this scenario, you'll right click on the device and browse to the location where you downloaded the drivers.
I need to know what happens if you try and install them manually.

Hi, I can't actually do step 7 because it doesn't recognizes the phone as an Android device like in the guide, but as an:
Unknown USB Device (Error Device Descriptor Request Failed) see attached screenshot.
Even when I select this Unknown USB Device and tried to update de driver manually, the installation fails. (see attached screenshot) .
I've changed cables and tried on different ports of different PCs. Same result. Also by entering Developer Options and accessing the USB settings won't work, there are all greyed out.

@egantz09
Thank you for your efforts and feedback.
Based on the details, I would strongly suggest you initiate a return. You've taken all the appropriate steps, and then some, to address the problem but it's obvious the issue exists with the device hardware.
I am happy to provide further instructions but what concerns me is the fact you've tried multiple PCs and multiple cables.

Hi, I can't return it so I already ordered online a replacement Port Board from aliexpress.com, so I'll check back in 4-6 weeks, thank you very much for your help.

did replacing the port solve your issue? I have the same problem

Sadly I'm still waiting for the replacement to arrive...I'm in Cuba. But other people with similar problems have solved them by replacing the USB port. Good luck.

if you followed all of the instructions and steps in this post and the problem continues, then you should return your phone.

I already changed my USB port. My warranty is void

If your phone was in warranty you should have returned it, changing the USB port was your final option. Now you should take it to a service center. Good luck,

I replaced my usb port today, still no luck, I tried 3 different ports (I bought 3), It charges with all of them but no USB connection to PC or OTG. I'm thinking its the mainboard. Could it possibly be the FLEX connector?

This is a big problem with 2 MI A2 for me
Since that problem i hate Xiaomi and never Xiaomi product to bey

I have the same problem ... My phone only charging when i connected via USB to the PC... I change USB board and i still have the same problem... I can't choose any options.. only charging.. any help how to solve this problem ? Thanks

I waited 3 months for my USB port replacement and it did the same thing, now I'm waiting for the flex connector, if that doesn't work either, then its a problem with the motherboard.

I ended up replacing the entire phone and a few months later this phone now has the same issue.. this is horrible. Especially with no USA support from Xiaomi. Its a "deal with it" situation.
But i believe the use of crappy chargers, debris getting into port, maybe Qualcomm quick charge modules design flaw could be sending unsafe currents or lacking proper temp regulation when charging,, is damaging something on the main board. I checked every possible software related possibility and tried every fix with no luck.
What i did notice when it happened this time, chargers were not staying connected, they would pop out due to debris in the charging port, also i noticed my phone got pretty hot using a Qualcomm QC enabled charger one night. Nothing else was suspected of generating heat, all apps closed, screen had been off.

I everyone... Where i can buy an usb port?? My A2 is not charging, trying at least 4 different cables and chargers,
Tks

[Q]Hardware bricked USB connector or just software prob?

Hello,
few days ago I've got my USB OTG cable. So, when I connected this OTG cable to my USB HUB through USB cable with 2 sides of type A port (pic here : http://www.cyfronika.com.pl/art93/kab120aa-l.jpg) to get power on HUB from USB port charger but nothing happened on phone with flash storage, any notifications or something. Then, when I wanted to transfer some files from my computer to sdcard. I've connected USB cable but Windows 7(32-bit) says that my device can be damaged or something (code 43). I've searched about this and found this http://pcsupport.about.com/od/errorc/a/code-43-error.htm . I've used http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21503469 for setting up the OTG and for kernel too.
Well, I've followed this tutorial but the error still appears. Tried on 3 computers with different cables and different USB ports.
So just tell me if it's software problem or I must do something with this.

(bumpin' like a crazy) Please, anyone have solution for this problem?
So the general idea is, you're trying to let your phone connect to other hardware while the phone is the host, right?
Now you're trying to connect your computer to your phone again normally and it's not working? (normal usb cable)
For one, there are a bunch of errors in the log you posted, thinks like
Code:
W/PackageManager( 353): Unknown permission android.permission.ACCESS_SUPERUSER in package hu.sztupy.android.usbhostcontroller
That might be a problem, I don't know. Perhaps you're better off asking the dev of this mod about these errors. Maybe there's something you forgot or wasn't mentioned in your guide that causes these?
Have you also considered the possibility your phone is now *always* trying to be the host (which is not going to be something a pc likes)? You're saying you can't properly connect with your pc any more, but can you connect with another device (usb stick for example)?

I've set default settings for USB Host Controller app. But no, I can't connect another device. I'm in half way to download Linux, maybe on it everything will be working properly.
Anyway thanks for your reply, let's see if it will be working on Linux ;f

ADDED MORE LOGS.

Note 3 won't connect to PC, Kies 3 installed and everything

So I've run into a weird issue that was happening with my Atrix HD the last few days of its life too and now over to the note on my laptop.
I know this is probably a more computer specific problem, as it's recognized on my desktop but I'm running outta ideas here so maybe someone can help?
I've been flashing and rooting and all that jazz since android was released so I know how to work it and my thinkpad was accepting mtp/android connections as recently as september. I unlocked my Atrix HD bootloader and all that but couldn't get the phone to accept the twrp so eventually I just gave up because it was just a stop gap phone.
But now with my new Note 3, I can plug the phone to the laptop and it'll charge but it doesn't bring up the MTP notification (all my androids do this now)
I've checked device manager, it's not even an unknown device in the list..so weird.
Anyone run into this issue before? I know it's not really phone specific but yeah.
thanks in advance
Are you using it on a USB 3.0 port? My home pc only recognizes mine if it's plugged into USB 2.0. Fought this same fight last night myself. Good luck.

Do you guys have BC 1.1 enabled on your machines? If so that's why the 3.0 port doesn't work.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using Tapatalk 5
to both of you, my thinkpad (for some awful reason) doesn't have usb 3.0, so no there isn't any USB 3.0 issues.
Literally plug it into my laptop, and nothing. no response from the computer at all not even in device manager, just starts charging as if the phone was plugged into a low voltage socket or something.
baffling.
works absolutely fine on my desktop, but I don't have all my adb and sdk tools set up the way I like them on there.
I have no idea.
ERR edit that it just started working :/ weirdd
Verizon note 3 here - same issue.
Do you guys have any programs that's suppose to charge devices faster with usb? It has to be software related on your laptop

To everyone with this problem, you have to specifically download the Note 3 drivers from Samsung
samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/SM-N900VZWEVZW
I was having the same problem, but now both Kies and manual usb file transfer work perfectly on Windows 8
I have same problem here as well ?? its not reconizing my phone in usb 3.0 and i have the newest drives as well for note 3 gn 9005
got it working
Had the same problem after trading in handset, maybe there is some kind of hardware identifier messing things up for usb?
I removed (uninstalled and deleted) drivers for usb, including for hub then reinstall hub drivers followed by reinstall driver option in Kies3 to install samsung drivers. This got everything working.

Your going to mess your phone up some kind of bad playing with those settings if you don't know what your doing. Also please don't recommend doing any of that without a trustworthy source because you can cause another person to mess up their phone as well.
The Note 3 does NOT support BC 1.1. That's what "Fast Charge" or whatever they call it is. Your phone will not use that connection so there is no workaround, just disable the BC 1.1 function.

Yes I stand corrected however I always mess with these settings in order to unlock 90% of the gsm galaxy lineup. This is just a different way of mounting your phone to the computer at least that is what I was told and have been doing for a while. I have tried all the methods on the note 3 and so far no problem. I have been using my phone like this for a while without any hiccups and I had this usb problem since day one on my SAMSUNG laptop so I tried this method which worked. You can easily switch back to the same setting but once again you might be right about the messing up your phone part. FYI MTP just stands for media trasnfer protocal I think so I went with it after a little research.
Just letting everyone know what worked for me no harm done

I tried installing the drivers from samsung with no luck and then tried this and no luck either. GOD DAMNIT! Why is google making it harder and harder to do this ****? Why can't it be as simple as moving files to another other usb drive like it used to be.
IT works!!it actually works..
what i did was,,download kies 3,supported kies for note 3, and go to Tools tab, and see the option "reinstall device driver" dont unplug your note 3,,and voila!!just wait a while, and see how the kies recognize ur note 3..

Do you plug it in USB port 3.0 or in 2.0? Mine, either port are not working
Try using a USB hub,,, 2.0 or 3.0.... this will work......
Go to device manager then to USB find the Samsung driver uninstall. Plug your note 3 in then your system will see your note 3 and reinstall your drivers. Then your good to go.

[SOLVED] Charging but not recognized by the PC

Hi,
I connected my note 5 to my laptop today, and surprise surprise, it is no longer recognized by the PC (though it charges). It used to be fine, I don't know what changed!
I tried different cables, different USB ports and different laptops
I tried to plug it in normal mode, safe mode, recovery mode and download mode
I tried switching USB debugging on/off
I tried the *#0808# menu, and I tried MTP+ADB and CP options
I uninstalled drivers from the PC and installed the latest from the samsung website
I tried both kies and smart switch
nothing worked! I am not doing a factory reset because I have seen many people do it for other devices and none of them solved it this way! I'm waiting for the Marshmallow update, maybe it will fix this annoying issue. Meanwhile do you have any other ideas guys?

Yes, , it charges phone (just like yours) but does not recognize phone.!
I then have to re install drivers for phone I use Smart Switch to re install drivers.
Then it works ok for a while etc..
Why don't you test phone on someone else's pc or laptop to make sure.?
Overall my Note5 is mostly recognized by laptop
Good luck

hi ,
why i still think its laptop /pc drivers related.
(But yes ,i might be completely wrong ..?)
i have laptop win 10 x64 also.
The issue is of laptop, not always recognizing a device /similar as yours ,but charging device .
Other devices, when trying to connect to laptop (,not just my Note5 ),( from time to time) eg Note 2,..3 ..4 , USB flashstick ..my Polar M400 running watch etc .Device is not recognized but charging .
So for me,
its just not Note 5 but other devices also (.from time to time) .
My "take " on this issue is that it points between drivers (pc ,laptop) //// relevant devices eg Note 5 ..etc . and not just the firmware issue of Note 5 ,??
but yes, as stated i might be wrong .
good luck
Post note ,
i have to add reinstalling drivers "sometimes " help " ,
but it happens again, later. ( not recognizing device )
So i am pointing fingers, at Windows o/s + the "company/maker " of laptop ..pc and + devices .The compatibility between all three above ,combined and yes i had similar issues ( from time to time with Win 8 ../Win 8.1 etc ).
Yet, i have also found that certain of my devices
that work nearly 100% of time on my laptop !,
which indicates to me, the compatibility of devices between device /laptop ,is very good ..??
I have a note 2 and it works every time when I plug it to either pc. My laptop is lenovo with all the latest drivers. Hopefully, marshmallow will address this issue because otherwise, this means that I can't root my device.

hi ,
strange ,
just for the record i also have a Lenovo Flex 2 laptop ( x64 ) Win 10 .!!!
i have rooted all my devices on Lenovo laptop ( Note 2, Note 3 , Note 4 and my Note 8.0 tablet etc )
Yet , i am at moment not interested in rooting my Note5 ( i have it already a couple of months )
I am happy keeping myself busy with Theme store ,tweaks/beta apps and lately with the interesting Lockmaster app( Play store ) for lockscreen ... etc .
If i get the root "urge " i pick up my other rooted devices and use them .or /update or/ install root only tweaks/apps etc. for my rooted devices .!!
i hope Marshmallow fixes your issues .!!

Edit: Never mind that. I see what you mean. That's odd it's not there for you. It definitely sounds like a PC issue. You can try completely removing all Samsung drivers and start over. Just using the Uninstaller will not cut it though. You'll have to do a system level cleaning of all samsung drivers.

The issue is not with your device. It's because of Windows. Is there another computer that you can use to connect your device to that you have never connected to before? Also make sure that you are using either the cable that came with your device, or at least a good quality cable. I've had that issue occur in the past because I was using a cheap cable.

I did plug it in my brother's laptop but no dice. I tried the OEM cable and an Asus cable on USB 2 and 3 ports, it did not work on either pc. How can I completely uninstall samsung drivers?
For users having the same issue, I found a solution (which also fixes all charging issues by the way).
If you look at the charging port, you will see a "tongue" where the pins connect. We all know that fast charging requires 5 pins not 4. The OEM cable comes with 5 as you all know. However, I found the OEM cable to be very fragile and not reliable, one pin tends to get bent without much pressure. This leads to the "tongue" going down somehow. The fix is to get the "tongue" up a bit, use a toothpick or something that does not conduct power. As for the cable, I suggest you use an Asus cable (I have 3 of those, 2 from my nexus 7s and 1 from my Zenwatch). Asus cables come with 5 pins and they are sturdier than Samsung's and they are a bit longer as well. Now the phone charges properly, fast charging and all and the computer recognizes it once again.
Hope this helps you too

I'm having this same problem these same problems. Other then I'm not able to get it to recognize even after doing everything that was said to do in this thread.
I feel like I'm missing a file? I was messing with them and just may think that could be my problem. is there anything else that has not been said in this thread I could do to fix this problem? When connected to my computer it recognize it as a charger. I can't access my files from my computer to my phone.
any help would be very helpful! Thanks!
I'm having the exact same problem but now I tried to use Flashify to go back to original recovery instead of TWRP & now by recovery or boot IMG is screwed so it wont even boot to recovery..
It boots only to download mode & is not recognized by any PC we have, with every cable I've tried.. uhhgggggg
I was having the same issue. Here is what solved it for me:
• Disconnect the usb cable.
• Go to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Troubleshooting\Hardware and Sound
o Go down to device / hardware and devices – click on that
o Follow instructions to correct issues. This found I needed a bus device driver update.
o Let it update and once done go out.
• On PC - Go to Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network and Sharing Center\Advanced sharing settings - go down until you get to the part that says "All Networks" ...expand the list by clicking on the arrow to the right. In this area you will see "Media Streaming" There should be an area highlighted in blue that says "Choose media streaming options" click on that. Make sure you "allow all" . Once that is done, click "ok" at the bottom. Plug your device into the usb and it should be recognized. Seems a recent Windows update has that filter off.
• Now, restart your computer.
• Use original usb cord that came with phone! Plug in phone then plug in usb to computer.
• It should recognize your device now.
I now have to restart computer every time I want to connect my device but it works.
Hi I am having that same problem with my note 4. It doesn't seem to be a pc problem as no pc at all none Nada recognizes the phone. Windows 7 to Windows 10. None. Used 2 workmates of mine who also have note 4s on my laptop and all the laptops i used i used their phine on itand they worked so blaming the pc seems to be out of the equation..your solution and all those settings have been untouched as it has all devices allowed ..... tried cleaning the connectors and also different oem cables to no avail ..The only thing I have not done is change the logic board
Hi I hope somebody can help me. I am having exactly the same issue. though I don't think its PC or Laptop problem. I have two Note 5 the other one is working just fine, while the other Note 5 that was just charging was connected I noticed that running *#0808# I can select AP and CP but MTP+ADP was not selected and if I try selecting the radio button I will be able to but after pressing Ok or Reboot it back to no selection at all. Which I observe on my other Note 5 that was working its always selected every time I run *#0808#.
One more thing noticed is that on the Note 5 that was not working I boot it download (ODIN) mode and connect back to USB of my PC and Laptop, I hear a sound (the typical sound in windows once you connect any USB device) though I cannot access it I am positive that my USB port on both device are in good condition and since it was detected in windows through ODIN boot mode I was under the impression that its a phone software/firmware related. Can somebody help me on this one? thanks

Massive Storage not working in T813, computer does not detect

Hello fellas,
I have a problem with my brand new T813 running the latest official firmware available (Android 7).
Massive storage is not working, my computer running Windows 10 with updated samsung drivers has failed to detect it. The device charges, but I am unable to modify the usb options, regardless the choice MTP always remain.
I have tried with three different cables, all of them work fine with my S7, the computer never detects the device, eventhough it's charging. This means it is not a problem with the device's micro usb port. I have the latest drivers, and I have also tried with all usb ports. None of them seemed to do the trick.
The computer has faulty usb 3 drivers, ever since I have installed Windows 10, the speed is not what used to be with the previous configuration. I have the same drivers, I don't understand what's wrong.
Any help would be appreciated, I have tried most solutions mentioned on this community and they didn't work. I can't flash the device because it is never detected. The problem still persists after a restablishment via the menu.
Download mode shows

[UPDATE] 06/08 11 AM
Left the device at SAMSUNG ARGENTINA repair shop. Also had to pay 300 pesos (around 20 dollars) as a diagnostic fee, they told me that if I accept the repair cost later on, they would discount the 300 pesos I have paid out of the total price. And if I don't, they will keep the money.
Will update again when Samsung calls me in a couple of days. Maybe this monday, I hope so.
[UPDATE] 06/08 15 PM
I have just received an email from BGH, which is the SAMSUNG ARGENTINA official partner for repairs. They told me that the problem is a FAILURE on the SUB board.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Micro-USB-C...g-Galaxy-Tab-S2-9-7-034-SM-T813-/322414846816
The good thing, is not that expensive. The bad thing, this tablet hasn't arrived officially to Argentina, and since it has been bough in Chile, the guys at SAMSUNG ARGENTINA had to request an international order replacement, which I have been told it could take some time. But they will eventually get the piece.
Will update again.
What does device manager report when the device is connected?
Sure you don't have ADB enabled? Disable developer settings and try again.

Thanks for replying, please refer to first screenshot. No Mass Storage option appears after connecting device. MTP option seems to be forced, i am unable to change it.
The tablet is brand new, but the guy who sold it to me said that it has always been working. He even told me that it has been barely used, and that the device is recognized when connected to an usb audio system. It has been upgraded to 7.0.1 a couple of days ago, maybe that's the problem.
I have just tried with a macbook air and it didn't detect it either, it is only charging. The same computer has detected my S7.

Modern devices don't use mass storage anymore, they use the MTP protocol.
You should see your storage folders pop up in my computer.

Thanks for replying. ADB and USB debugging activated, I have also performed a factory reset and the problem still persists.
Using a microSD didn't help either.

Sadly nothing at all, the device only charges via usb. This is very confusing because the guy who sold it to me said it was working, but he has also said that he has never plugged it in a computer.

I have tried with a mac and nothing has happened, it is only charging. The same computer has detected my s7.
A lot of people seem to have experienced this problem, the remaining solutions I didn't try are using other pc or try cleaning the female port with isopropilic alcohol. Hope it does the trick, otherwise I'm screwed.
I will try at work tomorrow.

That is the problem, when I connect the cable nothing happens, it is only charging. Windows doesn't even detects it as an unknown device and neither does mac osx.
I didn't know mass storage is not used anymore, I think my S7 does have it and it works. I will try at work tomorrow.
When the problem appears with different USB cables and in different computers, as in your case, you have to look into the possibility that it may be a hardware issue.
I hope I'm wrong about this, but it sounds like the DATA+ or DATA- pin is damaged in your micro usb socket (pins 2 and 3, see http://pinouts.ru/PortableDevices/micro_usb_pinout.shtml)

Yes, I'm afraid it could be a hardware problem. But that would also mean the guy who sold it to me is lying. I have to say it, the device looks like it has been treated with care. However, i have noticed the plastic has worn out a little near the usb port, those black marks could indicate not so much care when plugging or unplugging the cable.
I hope we are both wrong about this. Tomorrow i will know. Fixing this is a pain in the ass, right?

¡Che! Replacing the microusb receptacle would not only be a pain the ass, but if you make a tiny mistake while soldering or desoldering you can end up with a bricked tablet.
Anyway, let me know what you find out tomorrow, good luck boludo.

Actually not too bad as the Micro USB port is a module and can simply be swapped out.

If the fast load works normally, everything is fine except that it does not recognize by usb

Make sure that:
1. You are using a USB-C cable compatible with data. I have had problems with some cables with my OnePlus Devices.
2. That in your notification tray you change USB for Charging to USB for Data Transfer

The original poster said they tried several cables. But I agree, they should make sure the cables support data transfer. Some cables (particularly cheap, 3rd party) only support charging, and will not transfer data. And therefore the MTP data transfer option never comes up. I've had this happen with some cables, myself.
Otherwise, if different cables and PCs used, with correct drivers; then I tend to assume the USB port on the phone is damaged, or some other hardware failure.
I apologize and I rectify myself. The fast loading is not working, it is just normal load and I had not realized why I use several chargers, but with the original one plus not fast charge

Now I suspect that it may have been damaged by using several chargers in the car etc ...
But the only thing that occurred to me that could get us out of doubt would be an update via OTA

Updates via OTA will work but if the hardware problem does not know another update if it does, I'm skeptical about it.
It may be that the only solution is just replacing the motherboard
I do have the same problems with 2 different 3T (one with LineageOS 14.1, one with OyxgenOS 5.0.8).
Tried from Windows 10 using latest drivers from Oneplus. Tried form LinuxMing 19.
Using original red OPO USB-C cable...
MTP is enabled. I tried really everything.
Any idea is welcome! Tnx!

Please don't copy and paste the same question in multiple threads. https://forum.xda-developers.com/on...o-storage-via-mtp-mode-windows-t3560060/page3
You posted here, and on the other thread that it is the "same problem"; but these 2 threads describe different issues. This thread described not being able to read the phone at all from PC. The other one describe being able to read, but not write. Which is it?
Some general posting tips, to allow you to get the proper help you request:
- Best not to say "same problem" but rather, describe your issue in detail. I've seen folks post "same problem" many many times (maybe hundreds) on these forums over the years. I can honestly say, that of those time, zero of the problems actually ended up being identical symptoms and solutions. Describe your issue, step by step, in as much detail as possible, with specific outcomes, error messages, etc.
- Don't post the same question in multiple threads. In addition to the issues pointed out above; cross posting just leads to confusion. If folks start helping you in the different threads, you are going to be bouncing back and forth and just getting confused. It also confuses those trying to help you; as you will inevitably start updating one thread, but not the other. Easier to keep the discussion to one relevant thread.
- I don't know what it means when you say "I really tried everything". You did not try everything, otherwise the problem would be solved. You only mentioned trying one cable. That isn't much. If there are other things you tried, you need to list those separately, and specifically. Otherwise we can only guess what you tried or didn't try. Probably wasting everyone's time as we suggest things that you may have already tried. Did you try other cables? Try other USB ports? Will the phone connect fastboot or adb?
Common problem on two different devices suggest a problem with the cable. Are you trying on 2 different PCs? Or dual booting? It's not clear (you mention Linux and W10).
