Galaxy S6 edge 5.1.1 Temp. Root Tutorial. (Doesnt trip Knox G925V locked bootloader) - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge

New 6.0.1 and 7.0 root coming soon!
Back again as promised.
Required files:
-G925v OG7 Eng tar : (new Eng boot with faster bootup and stability improvement, reflash if you used the older version)
https:// mega dot nz/#!wJVmkJ7R!pWBoxloXf7m8PXGhGwkh_mfcFiIK-zAbioNs2Nbxszs
-Kingroot apk (king not kingo!)
Kingroot dot net
-Odin
Steps:
Run odin
Put phone in download mode
Add the tar to "AP" and click start
Device will reboot with new green writting on top left (ignore it)
Run Kingroot and click "try root"
It will be slow and lag around 16%, be patient and try to keep the screen from turning off. At 34% it will blast off to 100 and ull have root!
Enjoy
Recomended:
Have kingroot disable "knox"
Download root uninstaller and freeze "securitylogagent" to get rid of that annoying "unauthorized changes" message.
NOTE: This is TEMP root, youll have to repeat the process after every reboot to regain root.
NOTE TO DEVS: unpacking the boot image and modifying the ramdisk and trying to get permanent is an option, but DONT repack and flash with odin, it will cause dm-verity check to fail. Instead transfer the new boot.img to the phone and flash with flashify. I tested it and it seems to not cause a check failure.
New 6.0.1 and 7.0 root coming soon!

Thanks..
Confirmed working great on 5.1.1 my phone is rooted and boot time is faster and you can use hot boot to reboot without loosing root.

Are there any advances/news on a permanent root method on Lollipop 5.1.1 or on Marshmallow or Nougat? It would be great if there was a way to not have to re-root the phone every time it is turned on... I'm really thankful for your work!

Thank you !!!
Your tutorial help me root G925V 5.1.1, it's working for me. When you release root for 6.0.1 and 7.0 ?
Finally, thank you very much for help me...
Have a nice day. :good::good::good:

Galaxy s6 Edge + Verizon G928V temp root
Has anyone successfully temp rooted Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge + Verizon G928V ?
My phone did accidental factory reset (blame the kid!) and I have been trying to recover my photos. Tried at least 15 different software and even paid for some. No luck. the images recovered are all from after factory reset. I have been told that booting will help recover images. Any inputs experts?

Hi and thanks for the tutorial! I followed the steps and successfully completed the odin part. However, my phone will not load past the Samsung Galaxy S6 edge page. There is the green writing on the top right hand. Do you know how I can fix it?

Looks like everything works! Now off to find a 6.0.1 root...

Hi, I followed your tut on downgrading my SM-G925V to 5.1.1 and also got root which was great, but I guess its pretty worthless as its only temporary til reboot, has there been any further progress on permanent root on the G925v? Great work btw

Yes you may. You'll need to install SuperSU from the app store before or after flashing this, but, the su binary is up to date (1.99r3) and ready to go.
Also you could just flash twrp with ODIN before rooting. Either way, this will fix you up.

Thanks man. Yea, this one took a couple hours longer to post than I'd have liked because of changes they made to the scripts. I had to re-architect my build odin script to reconcile the changes. But the modems, recovery, and full images are all posted. Not too shabby considering it was literally one day after the Nexus devices got their factory images.
My phone is rooted, and I installed Xposed framework. How do I install 4.4.3 without losing everything?
With Odin you lose everything right?
You won't lose your data. But it will overwrite your system partition, yes. You don't have a lot of options if you wanna get to 4.4.3 with the current environment you have on your phone. ODIN is pretty much it.

It is better to do a wipe data, to do a clean install? I'm afraid that Xposed and its modules can cause problems.
Don't know. I don't use xposed at all. Personally if it were me I'd flash it, see if it boots...if not, factory reset it and start over. But I'd at least try to boot it up without wiping data first. I go out of my way in all my utils to make it so users don't have to wipe data so you never know....it could work.
I've updated all my ODIN TAR threads to make it COMPLETELY clear what EVERY step is as it seems it was too difficult to follow.
Thanks. With MJ gone, you are the last Samurai for all i9505g users. We all depend on you now.:good:
Anyway to disable the System Update notification nag? I was using 4.4.2 Automanager, unchecked SystemUpdate but still no luck...
Should be able to freeze the updater apk whatever the file is. I don't know it off the top of my head but look through them and you should find it.

How I downgraded my baseband/fixed 4.4.2 lag

Background: I had updated to OA1 4.4.4 on s5 900A. I had some issues, so I decided to downgrade as described in the upgrade thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/att...to-root-g900aucu2aoa1-4-4-4-2-3-2015-t3021120.
I would downgrade by flashing in odin the G900A_Downgrade_to_NCE.tar, as well as the G900A_ND3_Stock_Kernel, rerooting with towelroot, installing safestrap, and flashing one of the many 4.4.2 roms.
However, upon boot all of the 4.4.2 roms would be laggy, I would sometimes get a green/pixilated effect on the lockscreen when unlocking, and battery life would be sub par. I came across this app on play store:https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vndnguyen.phoneinfo&hl=en , and even though I had downgraded the kernel, the bootloader read as OA1, even after flashing in Odin the ND3 stock kernel.
I believed that was causing the issues I was having, and was under the impression that the bootloader could not be downgraded. In a fit of frustration I did the following, and fixed the problem!
Solution:
This is not a step by step, but a rough approximation of what I did, if you need more detail, just ask.
1. I downloaded and put on my SD card G900A_NCE_to_NG3_OTA.zip https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95916177934525665
2. In odin 3.09 I flashed G900A_Downgrade_to_NCE.tar https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23622183712464416,
3. Also in the AP slot I flashed G900A_ND3_Stock_Kernel https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23622183712464356
3. My phone was unrooted at this time. I let it boot up, downloaded the Phone INFO ★Samsung★ to the phone from the playstore, opened and my bootloader remained OA1. The camera was normal, and the boot was slow, so I was where I was many times before.
4. I shut down the phone, I rebooted holding volume up, power and start until I got to the standard, built in samsung recovery.
5. I located my download of G900A_NCE_to_NG3_OTA.zip, and flashed it via the samsung recovery. It took about 5 minutes.
6. The phone rebooted, and the phone info app said I had and NG3 baseband! It had downgraded! However, towel root was not compatible.
7. I flashed in odin G900A_ND3_Stock_Kernel again. Now towelroot rooted the phone. I installed busybox and superuser from the playstore, then safestrap again.
Now I can flash any of the 4.4.2 roms, none of the slowbooting, stuttering lockscreen or battery issues seem to be present, and Phone INFO ★Samsung★ has my baseband and bootloader as NG3.
All credit goes to muniz_ri, these are all his tools! I just stumbled across this method and thought others might benefit.
I can confirm this.
I was on OA1 after flashing OA1 OTA zip from recovery.
Later, I downgraded by flashing G900A_Downgrade_to_NCE.tar. Bootloader after this was OA1.
Flashed G900A_NCE_to_NG3_OTA.zip from recovery. Bootloader and baseband changed to NG3.
Bootloader and Baseband version was verified using 'phone info' app from play store.

Likewise, just did it, I found with me, the OTA zip file would not install with the ND3 kernel installed. So I did the original odin downgrade to NCE, booted, then the OTA zip file, booted, Then the ND3 kernel Tar file in odin. Worked .Good luck:good:
so the nce to ng3 downgrade goes in the ap or BL?

NCE. to NG3. OTA zip is done in original recovery by pressing power + volume up + home key. Then install update from Sd external.

was on Muniz 5.0, downgraded to xtreme dynamic kitkat. Still had oa1 bootloader, and was laggin really bad on boot.
Flashed this in stock recovery (wipes data part ) and reloaded my apps.
All seems to be well, without the need to go back to stock in between.
Thank you - this totally worked for me and got rid of the lag in my 4.4.2 ROM (XDK) as I had taken the upgrade to 4.4.4 way back when!
Hi,
do you do step 2 & 3 at the same time?
which field in Odin do you put the .tar file?
Thanks,

I'm not sure. Sounds like the reactivation was locked before you downgraded. I'm not sure how to fix that.

Introduction (will be deleted some time in the next couple days)
Hello everybody, I will be getting this phone next month and look forward to expanding this thread to cover more than just firmware and odin. I have made a few guides and have been told how easy it is to understand and follow compared to others. With that in mind I figured I would just nip this in the butt right now before someone beats me to the punch.
Other than odin I will also for sure be making a back to pure untouched stock for twrp which will flash the following stock images: system, kernel, modem, recovery and if we never see a locked bootloader rpm. This will have to wait until I have the phone because I refuse to make work public unless I have tested it on myself first.
Other than this first part of the op, it should stay more or less the same for the next month. post #2 will have a sandbox for the future of the op then it will turn into a spot to post answers to commonly asked questions.

Would you have a link for the stock SM-G925T tar file for TMobiles S6 Edge 128GB By chance. A Donation on my part would be more than welcome to do for you. PS....I have no clue why I cannot open any link on sammobile web. So a mirror of any sort would be highly appreciated.

Ill look into it when I get some free time. Back when I had a s3 I was getting the tar balls without the phone plugged in and without the sammobile site, need to rediscover how I did that.

I have yet to throw one together because I like to test that stuff on myself first (not getting the phone until the first). But I have a member willing to test it so if you want in on that youre more than welcome. I should have it done tonight if time allows.
Which stock firmware is this? The original one is 3.5 GB.

You recommend JOdin for Linux users. But isn't that just a front end for Heimdall, and Heimdall has not been working on Linux for a while?

I thought it got updated, I'll look into it.
Thank you for this. I rooted my phone before I installed the OTA because the TMobile rep told me the latest OTA was bricking phones. Obviously, this was not true and I couldn't update the phone. All is well now.
Would going through the process untrip the KNOX flag from rooting and such?

No! Once it's tripped, it's done. No resetting it.
I tried using JOdin last night but it couldn't ever get my PIT file and never restarted my phone. It would just say that it failed. Can I use someone else's PIT file for the same model or does it need to be specific to my phone? SM-G920T is my model, if so.
I tried odin on a friend's windows computer and it never recognized my phone when I plugged it in in download mode. so i'm not sure what is going on. :/

[GUIDE][G870A] Downgrade S5 Active MM6.0->LP5.0

DISCLAIMERI am not responsible for any damage done to your device. The following guide is to be used at your discretion, you are taking the risk of rendering your phone unusable. It is also advised to Factory Reset while following this guide, so backup, backup, backup! Only attempt if you are confident in doing so!
Marshmallow to LollipopA recent development has allowed us to root the G900A/G870A on 5.1.1., which you can find here. There is a guide for G900A users to downgrade from 6.0 to 5.0, but I wanted to provide a guide for Active users to do the same. Once you have downgraded to 5.0, you can root using this new method, or update to 5.1.1 and root. I was regretting my upgrade to MM, it wasn't worth the cost of root and custom roms, so this was exactly what I needed to love this phone again. Now, on to the guide.
Step 1
Download the necessary files using the following links:
G870A OF3 ODIN TARBALL
ODIN 3.11
Step 2
I will make the assumption you have the Samsung USB Drivers installed and can see your phone in File Explorer. Extract both of the downloaded files wherever you'd like, you'll have an Odin folder, and four files from the tarball: BL, AP, CP, and CSC files. Put them in their own folder, just to avoid any mistakes with flashing. Run Odin as Admin and you'll see 4 slots, which you'll fill with the 4 tar.md5 files you just extracted. You'll load the tar files into their appropriate slots, IE AP_* into the AP slot, and you will encounter delays as Odin reads and verifies the files.
Step 3
As a precaution, it's recommended to have your phone charged to at least 75%. Now to restart the phone into Download Mode, you do so by powering off the phone, then power on the phone holding the Volume Down + Home keys. Once in download mode, hook the phone up to your USB cable attached to your PC. (Most failed ODIN flashes are due to USB cables, you may need to try a few)
Step 4
Go back to Odin and you should see your phone show up in COM box. Once you've verified that the phone is showing up, verify that you have all of the tar files loaded into the appropriate slots, and push Start. You'll see the progress as each file is flashed, look for any error messages. Once everything is flashed, your phone should reboot and you'll see a green pass. At this point, I recommend doing a battery pull or hold down Volume Down + Home + Power keys until the phone reboots. Once it shuts off, immediately hold down Volume Up + Home to boot into recovery. Now just do a quick factory reset, wipe the cache, and reboot. You should now be back to OF3, you can verify this in recovery, or by going to About Device under Settings, under baseband it should read G870AUCU2BOF3.
Step 5
At this point, you can use the previously mentioned guide to obtain root. If interested, once you have root you can head over to the Unofficial List of Roms and use FlashFire to flash a shiny new rom.
I'd just like to thank @AptLogic for his contributions, as well as @719c6 for finding the OF3 tarballs.
Thanks a lot! Just wanted to report I downgraded successfully and will try to work on rooting next. Thanks!
Hello,
same here, downgraded via ODIN to 5.0.... I'd really like to update, though but couldnt find the data file yet -
coluld anyone help me with a link to a suitable update file from OF3 to OI5?
Thanks
plx
EDIT: oops, sorry, wasnt OI5 but OJ3 - found and updated...

The lowest you can downgrade to is OF3, which you can do by following the guide. The OF3 firmware uses the same bootloader as MM, so we were able to downgrade, NE4 uses an older bootloader, and we are not able to downgrade bootloaders.
Sorry.

It was linked in the OP, but it's in this thread. Apparently, they're having an issue getting it to root now, so if you get it to root, report feedback on the thread and make sure to keep it. I was lucky enough to downgrade, root, and flash my favorite rom, Xtrestolite. Finally have my phone running nice and smooth again, I won't be jeopardizing my root on this phone anymore.
Good luck!

Are you using Supersume?
That app (it is paid) automatically uninstalls kingroot and replaces it with supersu, and as far as I know, you have to use it for everything to work properly.
Good luck!

Yea, refer to the linked root thread in OP, there was some modification to kingroot that broke the exploit. I haven't been there in a few days, not sure if they found a workaround yet.
It's unfortunate, but another method or workaround could pop up anytime.

I need more then that to go on. Off the top of my head, I'd recommend a different USB cable and also a verification that the PIT files were downloaded properly, as in, they aren't somehow corrupted.

With this guide could I change from the pb1 update? I'm on a g870a. If so what are my options?

Please, i want to know, does root work on this? I need root for my device. Thank
Just want to check, but for obtaining root I would follow Steps 1-6 in the OP linked guide and then do I follow through with Step 7 (flash 900a PreRooted OF3 ROM -- as described in the link) or do I jump straight to a new custom ROM?
If it helps, I'm trying to flash this ROM (XtreStoLite) to my 870a, which should work based on this post

Im already on OF3, but when I try to install the "combination" file from the guide you mention, ODIN doesnt install anything, tried different PC , usb ports, and usb cables aswell. is this the only way to get root? I mean it would be easier if we had a TWRP working for our device.
That's not for the active. It's for the 900A

Why my samsung s10 exynos shows "only official binaries are allowed to be flashed"after my first reboot after root?
I only use magisk.

Hi, you did something wrong in the critical part of the rooting process going to guess and say it was the main reboot after odin flash.
Had this issue 3 times, the best would be to follow this root process and READ everything line for line.
You'd be supersized that the smallest thing you've missed may have caused it.
To fix it, download original software for your model and country from SamMobile or any other form - use this software: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s9/how-to/tool-frija-samsung-firmware-downloader-t3910584
Remember DO NOT DELETE THE .md5 from the file name after you've extracted it.

Something has gone wrong with your rooting, happened to me once.
Press and hold Volume-down, Bixby and Power button, connect phone with USB to PC, wait, release all buttons soon as Download screen appears. Now flash with stock firmware and start rooting from scratch.

Hi, Ok the best way to do so is to get hold of stock firmware for your device.
Try this: https://forum.xda-developers.com/s10-plus/how-to/tool-frija-samsung-firmware-downloader-t3910594
Then secondly you will need the PIT file of your device !IF YOU BREAK YOUR PHONE IT IS NOT MY RESPONSIBILITY! :https://zfirmware.com/samsung-galaxy-s10-plus-g975-repair-firmware/
Make sure that when you select BL,AP,CP and CSC to leave the .md5 extension on the file, if all 4 loads without any errors and you have the correct PIT file you will be able to boot stock firmware.
In my case i had the same error because i flashed a modded debranded firmware without first flashing the stock AP.
So first, debrand you phone by flashing the stock debranded firmware, then flash the magisk patched version of it.
In other words, always flash the STOCK version of the firmware you want THEN flash the magisk PATCHED version (if you are moving from a version to another one, particularly if CSC is different).
