Highest SOT ONEPLUS 5 - OnePlus 5 Guides, News, & Discussion

This is the highest sot i got for a flagship smartphone i have used

Mine getting 9hrs on high tweak.

still wondering how you can get that much SOT. My Highest was sth with 5 hours

I got my OP5 friday and thus far can't get past 2.5hrs SOT.

Getting about 6 to 7 hours with hours of playing Yu-Gi-Oh Duel Links.
Got 9+ hours but don't remember how I had used my phone that day.
- OOS 4.5.5 (stock)
- mobile data all day (with more or less giving hotspot)
- on screen gestures, pocket mode and fingerprint sensor enabled

Are you playing Pokemon GO all day or what are you doing to get just 5 hours?

No, only using Whatsapp, Google Chrome and sometimes Snapchat / Spotify. Also Mobile Data / Wifi enabled all day.

Well I probably would have hit 11+ hours but I had to charge before going to bed the first Sunday after I got the phone. About 9.5 hours with 25% still left. All stock, stock kernel. I for for titanium backup and a couple other root apps.

I've got 5h 50m SOT with 54% remaining

How do you guys do this? I get like 5Hour on display in one charge.

Screen on time depends heavily on how you use your phone. Playing Pokemon Go all day will result in much less screen on time than doing something light like watching a locally stored movie.

Just wanted to ask what the AccuBattery app says about the "health" of your battery? It was showing me that the battery only has 3.053mAh (about 8% less than it's supposed to be) from day one.
It's at 3.051 mAh right now.

My op5 eats 10 percent of the battery for every hr of screen on time so I get about 10 hrs per full charge.
For those who don't know...it helps to keep your screen as black as possible as this is an AMOLED display. So wherever your screen is black...it's off. I use the dark theme . My wallpaper is solid black. I'm used the "lines" icon pack as well
When I'll be reading online for long periods of time I sometimes use the "inverted colors" option but I'm not doing anything else special. I always have auto brightness on as well

I always get around 7-8 hr. But could not pass 8 hrs

I don't usually pay much attention to my battery at this point. One of those things that once you have it for a couple weeks, it's just looking at the same thing.
Also, I charge my phone each morning before leaving for work, so my battery never really goes below 60-70%. Those pics are over Saturday and Sunday. Tried killing the battery but only got it 25%.
My usage is medium to heavy use. Calls all day for work, about an hour or so a day, YouTube and web surfing, emails on push with 2 accounts (I get about 20-30 a day). Occasional game, nothing much. 2 hours of music streaming 2 hour total commute to work on the train. WhatsApp mixed text, photo, videos about 200 a day (mostly text)

Don't use crappy apps like AccuBattery. Problem solved.

That is my best result so far. A lot of internet browsing, YouTube streaming and listen to music with Bluetooth headset.

Over 11h and about 2hrs left but it was time to go to bed

Unimpressive battery life.

Was expecting 10 hours of screen on time but was only able to get about 5hours
Things I've done(that gave 5hours screen on time)
Greenify(all apps greenified except whatsapp)
Gravitybox smart radio
Removed about all the bloatware I could find using titaniumbackup (including Google search, google plus, google now)
Disabled all auto-sync except for Gmail
Disabled x-reality
Disabled "scanning always available" (search for advanced wifi in settings)
Gravitybox
Stamina mode
Brightness about 20%
That's about it, tips or even a guide to improve this will be greatly appreciated.

If you just turn the phone on and watch videos for 10 hours, I'm sure you could do that. You can't look at reviews and think that their battery tests (which don't mimic real use) are gospel. I just had my first day with the Z3C with AT&T service. Long story short, I'm getting the same battery life on my Z3C that I had on my Razr Maxx HD. And that's with location reporting on and brightness at 75 or 80%. On my RMHD location reporting was off and brightness was around 50%. I took it off the charger at 6am, it's 8pm now and I'm at 63%. 2 hours SoT.
If this was my Moto X I'd be at 15% or less.

Yeah, I know that's where you got the 10 hours number from. However, typical "real life usage" doesn't mean having the screen on for 10 hours. For example, I listen to a lot of podcasts and music. If I didn't I could probably double my screen on time. Stuff runs in the background and uses power as well. Battery life isn't just screen on time.
did you have a SIM card inserted? I noticed they didn't have a SIM card in theirs. This may turn off the cellular antennas
The problem with these synthetic tests is its repeating the same thing over and over again. Things like caching start coming into play
They didnt have a sim in? Thats pretty much invalidates the 10 hours number for sure. Cell service always drains more battery than wifi.

He has the phone in ultra stamina mode. If you wanna turn your smartphone into a dumbphone and have it last a week go ahead. Im gonna get two days out of one charge. Probably around 4 or 5 hours SoT, along with 6 or 7 hours of listening to podcasts and/or music. 10 to 12 hours of actual usage over two days is pretty pimp in my book. Im plenty happy with that. Dont know what to tell you.

Well. I'm basing this off of the screenshot they posted (I don't even know what that screenshot is trying to show). They really didn't say in their article. You can see the "no SIM" icon at the top and they're on WiFi.
I doubt they ran the test with a SIM card and 4g/LTE, and then went through the trouble of taking the SIM out and enabling WiFi before taking the screenshot.
Regardless, the battery life is good enough for me. Best from a phone I've ever had.

Sony says you can get 1-2 days on a charge with no battery saving modes on, 3-4 days with stamina mode, and up to a week with ultra stamina mode. Dude is on day 6 in that screen shot, so draw your own conclusions there. Plus, like another poster said, he's not on 4G or HSPA. Of course he'll have crazy battery life. My old flip phones used to last 3-4 days easily as well.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinions. If you think that the battery in the Z3C sucks, fair enough. I, however, am more than happy with a phone that gets the same battery life as my Razr Maxx HD. The Z3C has brightness turned up higher, and EVERYTHING on (except bluetooth), whereas the RMHD didn't. After one full day and 5 hours of actual use (2 hours SoT and 3 hours of audio listening with Pocket Casts) I'm at exactly 50%. Didn't charge the phone overnight. Gonna use it like normal today, see if I can get 2 full days with no battery saving mode turned on, 10 hours actual use.

[Q] Battery draining too fast on Galaxy S6

Hey guys. I recently bought a GS6 and I love everything about the phone....except the battery! This is literally a deciding factor for me vs the iPhone 6.
I know it has a quad HD screen but my battery drains WHEN THE SCREEN IS OFF. My provider (T-Mobile) says one reason could be that I used all my data (T-Mobile just slows down your speeds). This can also mean it's constantly searching for a better signal. Sometimes I don't get reception indoors but usually my reception is good.
Now, I would understand if my battery was dropping IF I had the screen on, but it's not. It's dropping a percent every 2-3 minutes.
Anyone have this issue and can combat it? My data plan reloads in two days so I can see if it gets better but if not, I will be switching to an iPhone....
Thanks in advance.
I just found out you can't use an iPhone without a simcard inserted..?? That's ludacris! Can't use it as a camera, mediaphone, mp3 player.. nothing.. they steal your money bro.. literally. Don't get brain washed. i.e. Use aftermarket cables, the phone will catch fire and burn your house down as punishment..
iPhone all the apps are paid, since you may get used to it.. you should download better battery stats in the playstore, and it will pinpoint you to the battery drain.. could be something as simple as some bloat app. i.e. facebook trying to connect and sync and all that stuff, when you have no data. Same problems when just on wifi? Airplane mode + wifi?
perhaps you can try rooting, pingpongroot just came out and will root your s6 without tripping knox so you can reset your phone back to normal if you decide to go to the dark side.
Purpose of android and the Galaxy s6 is you can make it better or worse thru rooting, tinkering etc. . iPhones are straight same robotic, limited, just got 1080p screens, consistent right out of the box.
Tinker bro!!
The battery drain is probably from a couple of problems you can find by looking at the first page of the general section. About going to the iPhone all I have to say is the iPhone 6 had horrible battery life on launch. So if you where a early adopter to the iPhone 6 you probably would be equally disappointed. Once we get android 5.1.1 we should have really good battery life. My s6 already lasts longer than my LG g3 ever did and it had a bigger battery so I'm pretty pumped for 5.1.1.
I get about 10 to 12 hours of medium to heavy use without charging.
I don't use powersaver, have volte off, wifi search off, wifi calling off, and trust agents smart lock (google) off.
This is with auto screen brightness.
I have a Zerolemon 2800mah case with me as well, but I never use it.

Not to sound braggish, but I always get at least 4 hours SOT. Total standby time varies (30-40 hours) depending on how much I use it, but SOT is always between 4-5 hours which is all I expect from a 2550 mAh battery. Battery life during my first week was awful (so bad that I considered selling it) but after rooting, debloating and other tweaks, I am much happier. I am also running Scuk's XtreStoLite Pure Edition rom, which is an extremely lean version of stock with all Samsung bloatware removed. However, I am still on the stock unmodified kernel with no underclocking or other kernel hacks, and I always get at least 30 hours standby. If you want to get serious about better battery life, I recommend flashing a debloated rom. But if you want to stay stock, then use Titanium Backup to freeze the stuff you don't use and Greenify the rest, and your battery life will improve. Just don't expect to set battery life records with the S6, because it will never happen.
I'm not sure why you are losing a percent every 2-3 min when the phone is on standby. I get great battery life on mine. Today I lightly used my phone (A few calls and texts, maybe took 10 pictures and some short videos, browsed the web and YouTube a little) but it was mostly in standby. It has been just short of 12 hours since it was fully charged this morning and it is still at 71%.
Maybe you have a defective battery. Also, and I may have been imagining it, but I think the battery life improved after a week or two of use. Maybe there is a break in period for it.

hank you for replying! I do actually want to stay on stock, but I found this neat thread/program from an XDA user that lets you remote bloat so I will try that.

That's the link.
I would actually be very satisfied with 30-40 hours of standby time with 4-5 hours of SoT, which is exactly what I'm trying to achieve. If you may, I just have a couple questions to ask. Do you leave Wifi/data on when you're not using it to receive push emails, etc. throughout the day and do you have the Facebook and Messenger app installed? I noticed if I left them running in the background they sucked up my battery.

Wow, your battery sounds phenomenal! I had 80% this morning and after 8 hours I'm under 50% already with very light use. =/ I feel it's more like 3%/hour on standby but if I can get it to 1-1.5% every hour with wifi and sync on that would be perfect. Thanks for the reply!
Tagging this thread - I'd be happy to hit 20 hours with 4 hours SOT on this battery - today I got 15 hours standby and 2 hours 20 minutes SOT before having to charge.

I have wifi and location enabled all the time. BT on while in my car, otherwise BT off.
I don't facebook. FB is a known battery hog. Get rid of those 2 apps and you will probably gain another hour SOT.
Here are my current battery stats, on track for another 40 hrs standby + 5 hrs SOT. Overnight drain 2-3%.
IMO the battery life got better over time.. I noticed a huge drain initially.. but for some reason after about 3 weeks with my s6 it's gotten noticeably better.. Its not the best battery, but it does improve

It appears that it simply disables the app (unless you're rooted). There's an app you can download to do it easier. Download Package Disabler from the Play Store.

Yes, I just want to disable it, not remove it because you can't use that space anyways so it's just better to disable it in case you need to re-enable it for an OTA or if you need to return/sell.

Wondering if this is considered decent battery life? This is with very light use of text, data and wifi with email sync. The standby time is great but the on-screen time is meh. I also used airplane mode in areas where I was getting spotty reception during class. I also get the message "No internet connection or server not available" and I feel like a certain app is searching for a connection that could drain the battery more but I'm not sure which app it would be.

I also get the message "No internet connection or server not available" and I feel like a certain app is searching for a connection that could drain the battery more but I'm not sure which app it would be.

Your standby time is great but your SOT isn't that great. Your email app is using a lot of battery syncing. I recommend using Greenify or Servicely to restrict wakeups.
Your idle drain curve looks a bit steep. Mine is almost flat. How much does it drain overnight?
Facebook and FB Messenger are battery hogs. Delete those and you will probably get another hour SOT.
Good idea using airplane mode in areas where you know you won't get signal. You could use Tasker or Llama to automate switching back & forth.

I wish 9am was early! I unplugged mine at about 0430 this morning. My screen on time is only about an hour and 15 minutes though.
My phone still stays awake too much. One hour is from music during the gym - I'm not sure why the kernel has it staying awake for 6+ hours though

Yeah that is jacked up. GSam monitor shows your phone has been awake for over 8 hrs, so it is not going into deep sleep. Out of curiosity, install CPU Spy and see what it shows. It should be similar to this:

Help please ;_;

Is this normal for a note 8? Settings = fhd+ no power saving mode, aod and edge lighting off. I know i m getting way low than i should get , I saw people getting atleast 4 + hours of screen on time everywhere

lowering quality and turning off aod/edge lightning will only save you a few minutes, you may as well have them on enjoy the features.
The SoT is user dependant, everyone uses there phone for different things and in different ways.
Also your phone has been on for over 20 hours, im sure you would get the same SoT as the rest if your phone was not sitting (screen off) running apps in the background for so long.
Having said that spotify is one of the things you have used in that 20 hours and judging by the %4 it used i'd say you were streaming a fair bit, that obviously does not add to your SoT but your still draining the battery. if you use your phone mostly idle while streaming music why does SoT matter?
No one can "help" you here i don't think, it is your usage habbits, this is what you get im afraid and from what i can see its not bad at all
my only tip would be if you dont use your phone turn it off instead of letting stuff like facebook eat away at your battery all day for when you actually do want to use it for Netflix or whatever :good:
Edit: Also your only at %25 still can get a couple hour SoT out of that :silly:

That's normal, that's how you receive instant updates from emails WhatsApp etc Facebook is an idle killer. You can either put the apps to sleep so there not active while idle or turn the phone off all together when you don't need it. Like I said I don't think there's anything wrong with your phone it's normal not for me but it's normal for you.

Samsung has one built in.
Go to Settings > Device Maintenance > Battery
click 'Save Power' that will put your apps to sleep.
Also you can scroll to the bottom of that page and press 'Always Sleeping Apps'
and you can add what apps you want to that list and they will never run in the background while the phone is asleep.
Alternatively you could use an app like Greenify.
You can try "greenify" at playstore, it is free, and a donation pkg that further enhaces its features

A not so positive First Two Days with Galaxy S9

Hi all.
I buy the Galaxy S9 Plus, received two days ago.
Currently i have the January Firmware, no update here in Italy, that seems unstable right now.
Compared to my Oneplus 5t, sorry to say, but it is a bit laggier.
In those days, 2 times / 10 some application (Google maps - Twitter) have crashes or made the phone unusable (i have to force close Google maps three times yesterday).
Also, the battery is draining really fast, battery today drops with a medium usage to 10% after 2h of screen.
Hoping that the situation will be better with the new firmware.
2 days for testing battery life not enough the device still learning how u use it
for crashing and unstable for sure updates will solve that
The device isn't even officially released yet. Give them time to release the update that we already know is being released (already has been in Germany).
Allow more time for battery. A new phone has to learn your usage patterns before the battery is properly optimised.
If you're getting a lot of app crashes there's something wrong. Try a factory reset. If that doesn't work, return it as its faulty.
battery indeed drain very fast. I own a regular UK dual sim s9. compared to S8 which I previously own, sot is up to 1.5 hours shorter. basic operation heats up phone fast too.
I have none of such problems. No crashes so far. Battery life is great. Maybe faulty unit?
These are my battery figures so far.
I have had no crashes just yet. I managed about 4 hours SoT over an 18 hour day yesterday. Not amazing but better than my old 6P.
The device is lightning fast and keeps quite a bit in memory too!
Got the plus and had an ota yesterday. 1 fc of something I can't quite remember prior to update.
Been rock stable and battery excellent since then

I can tell you one thing when users report 5-7hrs sot and you just get 2, you can't blame the phone something is wrong with the apps you have or with some syncing issue

I will post in those days, some screenshot about my battery usage, so you can understand.
However, i will reset the phone tonight, so we can check if it's something wrong with my apps.
It is the usage pattern that counts as well as the apps, theme and so on. Some might not use Facebook for ex that is known to heavily drain battery. Others might have dark/black themes that helps, or medium batery saving mode...there are hundreds of scenarios. One user that has his phone set on FHD+ resolution wil have the battery lasts longer than one that has it at WQHD. Some might have smartwatches and devices that require permanent BT on or high location settings. All these consume battery so just saying mine has that much SOT or it lasts that much time, means nothing.
For ex, in the print screens above mix197 had 13 hrs of standby with 2 hrs SOT...2 hrs of doing what? Cause there is no voice call (and he has VoLTE active that sucks battery), no navigation, no nothing. Read the Bible for 9 mins and browsed the internet for 20...and having 13 hrs of IDLE. That's a graphic showing night usage...probably lasted like this since he was sleeping and the phone too.
What I want to say is that don't bother to compare your new devices with others....eventualy compare it with your old devices since those had the same apps and usage pattern (mostly). And read how to improve on battery: use a dark theme, disable un-needed packages/bloatware...including but not limited to Gear VR, Gear S, Facebook, Bixby if you don;t use, ANT+ and so on...deactivate BT, or set the mobile data to turn off when on WiFi (is in dev settings as I recall and it's on by default to switch quicker from wifi to mobile data). All these will help you get some more battery

The only reason people try to compare is to know if theres a problem with their device. For the s9+ it is the case as some are reporting 6-7Hrs sot while others are reporting 2-3hrs
I still believe that usage pattern and applications makes the difference. Such comparison should reflect something if same person was doing the tests. As this is not the case, results may vary by a large margin as I said. Besides that, the difference in hardware might be the binning (as it was the case with Note 8 or S8/S8+ devices). Could be that devices with higher SOT have higher values for nAsv too so that would mean they're much more power efficient and have higher performance too.

That's why i started a thread called chip bin and benchmarks
Ok, i think that maybe there are some serious problem.
Only 1h and 30 of screen on, and already at 57% of battery.
Something goes wrong.
See screenshot attached

My screen is usually on top then it's Android System. How do I figure out what's causing my bad battery life?

Now you leave your phone for an hour or 2 untouched and see how it behaves. Look for partial wakelocks and alarms

General Battery life and optimization

During intensive initial days I get 4-5 SOT and 12h use time. This is with mid heavy usage.
My battery starts today attached:
- over 7h music streaming partially on Chromecast partially bt
- over 1h YouTube (45min in browser)
- 40min Teams video call
- over 30min photos and videos in two camera apps
- 1h of Opera browsing
- Gmail, messenger, maps and all other apps in constant synchronization
- last.fm and pebble running in background
From the list you can clearly see that the only stand behavior is connected to AOD which was over 1%/h so I have disabled it.
Hello
As I understand in my daily use, mixed WiFi - 4g, you can reach 5h.30min ost. Maybe is necessary some adjustments on 4g/5g modem, it sucks a little bit of battery WiFi is the best, the graph is linear.
Attached my mixed 4g/WiFi experience, during today. I forgot kill YouTube, I did 2hr screen total. As you can see in WiFi the graph is linear (untill the middle), while on 4g (2nd half), the curve began to drop more steeply.
Starting to learn how to use this phone.
No complains at all. Can't kill the battery in one day. Most of the screen time is at evenings at lower brightness but I do work so it's my natural usage.
After disabling always on screen, 5G, Google tracking and backup I easily get over 6h SOT and less than 40% battery drain during 24h.
Battery is very good and there's no doubt about it.
I get about 3.5h SOT for 80% battery, no 5g, no AOS, dynamic mode, screen 90hz, no gaming, no apps with heavy drain
I lost 3% over 9 hours last night while the phone was on my bedside table, this was the first night,i think the phone is deep sleeping properly?i have restricted quite alot of apps from running in background

7.5+ hours of SOT is possible. Here I reach 7 hours and 13 minutes of SOT from 90% to 8%. Ultra durable mode, no 5G, no mobile data always active in developer options, all WiFi, and Facebook services disabled. Brightness is set to auto.
To those who's looking for compact phone, superb performance, 120hz display, great speaker, and good battery life, go on with Zenfone 8. Here's my SOT on my Zenfone 8 with force 90hz enabled. Cheers
It looks like the last update improves the battery life quite a bit. Only free hours so no hard claims but the impression is heavy.

thank you for the reply, but could you be more specific? the drain you mentioned is per hour or per entire night?
It's per hour.
You can get probably less when switching off connection of data. I am leaving the phone fully ready as I have used it during the day - just put in ultra durable mode.
Jusr for info, after watching a teardown video I realized he battery is actually 3835mah not 4000 !
