What is a fast way to put cellphone "out of service" without using Airplane mode ? - Tasker Tips & Tricks

What is a fast way to put cellphone "out of service" without using Airplane mode ?
The situation is the following...
Maybe someone is trying to borrow your phone to make a call but you don't want him to spend your credits so you need to instantly turn off the calling function
Is there another way ? Maybe an app ?

Ehm, why not say "Sorry, I don't have credit"?
If you have root, it's possible.

And how does another app help you instead of airplane mode?
On android 6 and up, I'd use the guest user account (by default it doesn't allow phone calls) or screen pin the app you do want to let them use

My guess is that "they" would turn airplane mode off.
Anyway, OP, if you have root, use the Run Shell action, tick the Use Root box and enter this command: stop ril-deamon
That will kill the signal.
To restart it, have another shell action with root with this command: start ril-deamon

Yeah I think that's a better option, it pops up a message on the screen like the airplane mode and the airplane symbol doesn't appear on the screen but, since it is in another language it might be helpful. Thanks !

Is GPS active in airplane mode?

As the title reads, can the GPS be used with the phone turned off?
I am hoping to use it on a flight so I can track my route (for pure curiosity) but if it doesn't work....
doubt it

i know the GPS does not work when phone in airplane mode. perhaps if someone wrote an application that would disable the radio on the phone but keep gps alive. not sure if anyone would do that as i doubt the demand for such product/service/application is fairly minimal at the moment as personally i cant see the point of wanting to track my route (unless i was on ocenic flight 815!) or unless i owned my own private plane, but if i did then i would probably rely on more trustworthy equipment than the gps module on my diamond!

Yes, the GPS component of your phone can work while your phone is off.
Here is the Trick
If you haven't already, create a pin code before enabling your phone.
Path...Settings>Phone>Pin
Once you have created a pin, exist and go to CommManger. Here shut down your phone. Once that is done, turn it back on again. This time your phone will require a pin to turn your phone on. Instead of putting in your pin, hit cancel. Now you are free to use any navigational system without the concern that your phone is on.
Try it!
my phone tells me that without entering the pin i can only dial emergency nrs like 911
so is the radio really off?? because that is wat you want
tried it once on the airplane - still waiting on the runway though - but i got no signal...
Turning the cell radio off should leave GPS on, http://www.modaco.com/content/windows-mobile-news/272846/vario-iii-gps-470-mph/
The point is, because I'm an airplane/flightsim geek, i'm curious about what route the flight takes..
Anyway... conflicting opinions..
And I do think that the radio is still on if you are able to call emergency numbers(i.e. before PIN)
I was thinking, because the gps is integrated into the chipset and not an independent one like SiRFstar, once the phone module is of, so is the gps
The airplane mode does not interfere with workings of the GPS BUT some aircrafts are equipped with a screen that stops the GPS signal from penetrating the plane body. My personal findings are- new Boeings 7 series are equipped with the screen, Airbus A32x is fine.
The new 7 series? All Boeings are 7x7... if you meant the 777
As far as I know, GPS is used from time to time in the cockpit

I used it once with my P3600 and that worked, the problem is that you can use it as long your above ground as soon you will fly over the sea there are no maps, at least not for TomTom.
And another problem is the speed the programm which I used (TomTom ) worked well but the update interval is that big that the nav engine got confused.
Willem
What if you use your phone without a SIM card? Never tried it, and it's too late to go outside and try it now lol.
I can confirm that GPS does work in airplane mode.. just checked it

[Q] How do I turn off EVERYTHING but bluetooth and wifi

Ok, so I am about to go out of country and have no plans of using mobile data or mobile phone while I am gone. If I put the phone in airplane mode, I cannot use my bluetooth headphones, which I'd like to be able to do. So how can I COMPLETELY shut off the phone transmissions, but still allow bluetooth and wifi? Is there an app for that?
In settings you can turn off mobile data, but the phone radio still seeks out towers which I do not want it to do.
Just recently figured this one out
Download the app "Network" <-Link
Open it up, scroll down till you see the button "Turn off radio"
Click it
Turn on the wifis and bluetoofs
Now you have them enabled with the radio disabled but not in airplane mode
AWESOME. That solved it. Thank you!!
One quick follow-up question. Once I turn the radio off, if I pull down the drop down menu, it says "Looking for Service." I am assuming it is NOT using battery to look for service, even though it says that, right??
Actually, AFAIK, if you turn on Airplane mode, and THEN turn on Bluetooth and WiFi, the cell radio will still be off, but BT and WF will work still. At least WiFi works for me like that.
No. Bluetooth will not work on the hero. At least on every Fresh ROM I've ever had, you cannot turn on bluetooth in airplane mode . . . maybe wifi, but that is less important to me.
I finally found a app that works. Download Network by Philipp Mangelow in market. Start the app, scroll down until you see "turn off radio" button and press. After that just exit the app, activate bluetooth and the radio stays off. Works perfectly on my Transform. Let me know if this works for you!
nvm delete

[Q] Want to remove or stop Sprint activation device from my S.G.Tab how??

Can somebody tell me how to remove or stop the Sprint activation process on my S.G.Tab,every time i turn it on, i bought it without a data plan..
i have in the tool bar a green check mark reminding me of the activation..
somebody plz
yes, every time I boot up, it tries to activate. it's annoying. but one thing I'm doing now is to put the device in plane mode, and use wifi toggle widget on my desktop. works for now until someone can figure out how to disable the hands free activation.

Somebody knows which file to delete, to stop the automatic sprint activation
It's simple guys.
1. Root using 'Once click-Installer'
2. Install Titanium backup
3. Delete 'SprintAndroidExtension.apk' a.k.a com.sprint.internal
4. Restart!
That's it

SPH-M840 Freedom
Yeah, my reply might not have anything to do with your problem, but my problem led me here and it gave me the idea to check for something called "SPRINT".
I have an SPH-M840 and I kept getting that ANNOYING hands-free activation prompt after every BOOT, so I was looking for some way to turn it off. I figured it was a SPRINT issue, but then noticed others talking about a QUALCOMM app although I did not see any of these. Then I realized that the Hands-Free Activation kept popping up after I would hit the System Update button in the OPTIONS.
Turns out the SPH-M840 has the System Update tied to this, so I would recommend everyone update to the latest ROM, ROOT, CUSTOM RECOVERY and then install ROM TOOLBOX LITE -> APP MANAGER and then FREEZE the app called - SYSTEM UPDATE. VIOLA!!!
NO MORE PROMPTS and now you have a mini WiFi Router or Home Phone or TV\Android Remote - let your mind go crazy; but that prompt was really annoying me., but now I am FREE and just waiting for a MARSHMALLOW port for this little beauty!!!
Now let the search bots bring others here...
:good:

NO ROOT REQUIRED
1. Put your phone on ULTRA POWER SAVING mode
2. Turn off ULTRA POWER SAVING mode
3. Activation will not appear again till phone restarts
Will it prevent you from updating your phone if you remove it?

Turning gsm radio off PERMANENTLY?

Seen that there are no updates here so I thought I'd stop by and ask how you made out?
If you still haven't done anything about it, have a look at this post
Just got a possible solution from frgking12!
I'll post it here if someone would like to try it:
I used Llama to create an Event called "Start Up" which will automatically turn Airplane Mode ON, wait 1 minute, then turn Wifi ON. This essentially makes it a Wifi only device and conserves battery life. Here are my Llama settings:
Conditions -
Phone Reboot > After Start up
Actions -
Toggle Airplane Mode > Airplane Mode On
Queue another event >
Conditions
Event name > WiFi on
Queue Delay > 1 minute
Actions
Toggle Wifi > WiFi On
Thanks to frgking12 again!
this method of turning airplane mode on and then enabling wifi also makes it so that bluetooth is disabled (and therefor won't work for my needs as I often use my apple wireless (bluetooth) keyboard with it.
unfortunately, it looks as if the post referenced by theREDlegion is a temporary fix that must be done each time you restart.
if anyone has an alternative, I too would appreciate the ability to turn off the gsm radio (and save battery life) as I too have a tmobile sgt and I also choose not to subscrube to 3g service but would rather use wifi all the time.
thanks in advance

My reference was only for the OP's original request which is an easy way to disable the GSM radio, and EASILY revert back to it working, nothing permanent. There are also widgets to do this but some of them are buggy. The fix outlined works well, the average tab user does not shut off their tabs regularly only the screen. The OP will not find that this is something they would be doing constantly. There are also scripts that can be run at boot, or apps such as Tasker which can automate these tasks.
A permanent fix would be to flash a ROM without a modem, but I'm not sure how you would get rid of the existing one. I'm sure some searching would get you places.

ooh, that's an interesting idea. shouldn't it just be a matter of restocking the tab, then flashing overcome (or any other rom of your choice that doesn't integrate the modem software), and simply choosing to not install a radio at that point?
I might experiment with that at some point (has anybody else tried it?)

automatically unlock phone when connected to car

The goal: if my phone is connected to my car (and the car is turned on), unlock it automatically.
I keep a spare phone in my car connected to Android Auto (and hidden) so I don't have to keep plugging in my more expensive phone daily. Since it is also connected to my carrier and google accounts, I lock the phone. I have SmartUnlock set to keep the phone unlocked when bluetooth is connected to my car. This works for keeping the phone unlocked once unlocked, but it does not unlock the phone. I still have to do that manually with my fingerprint or passkey. Any idea how to automatically unlock the phone when connected to the car (and the car is on)? If my car is broken into and the phone is stolen I want the phone to remain locked. I am going to take the risk that if the keys are present (thus the car is on and the phone is connected to bluetooth & via cable), it's ok to unlock the phone automatically. If someone steals my car with the phone, then I'm screwed. But I'll take that risk.
Basically here is the problem with the built-in auto-unlock (from official instructions):
Important: When you don't use your device for 4 hours, and after it restarts, you'll need to unlock it.
Which means almost every time I use my car!
I've also tried google assistant voice unlock, but that only works if I don't have another lock method in place, which is not safe.
In case it matters, the spare phone is a Moto X4 with Oreo, not rooted. I'm on Google Project Fi, which allows multiple data-only SIMs on the same account. I have my voice SIM in the Android Auto phone and a data-only SIM in my main phone that is not directly supported by Project Fi.
Maybe something like this ?

Sadly, unlocking the phone is not one of the supported actions of this app.
Did you consider a different approach? Like using AAGateway ( https://forum.xda-developers.com/ge...droid-3-0-proxy-gateway-android-auto-t3813163 ) for wireless AA connection?
It's the solution I use. I have an S4 mini running CM13 permanently connected to the car, only running AAGateway. No Google account and no other apps.
Using Automate scripts on both master and slave so AA connection starts automatically when I enter the car.
Android can do this already. Trusted Devices. Bt unlocks your phone when the trusted Bt device connects.

That's intriguing, but it doesn't solve everything I need in the spare phone.
1. The spare phone acts as a spare - if I forget or lose my phone, I can grab the spare phone from the car. Happens about once per month.
2. My main phone is not Project Fi compatible, and thus only works on LTE, no voice. I can use Hangouts Dialer to manually dial numbers for VoLTE, but that doesn't work through Android Auto. My cheap spare phone is Project Fi compatible and can dial voice via Android Auto.
3. My main phone is rooted and thus there is a thing or two it can't do - if I need to do those things, I can grab the spare phone (though admittedly playing PokemonGo is the only thing falling into that category thus far).
So the spare phone stays - I just need it to auto-unlock when I turn on the car.
Did you solve this? I have exactly the same problem. I need to have my phone unlock automatically when linked to my car bt. Not just stay unlocked, but actually unlock when connected.

See the attached Tasker screenshots for how I do it. The swipe is just a swipe up to get to the password prompt screen and %PASSWORD is set as my unlock password. The steps you see there are triggered by BT Connected to my Mazda. You will need Tasker and the AutoInput plugin

The problem stays. If the profile runs, tasker will be set as default input method.
Is it possible to create an new task if the bluetooth connection get lost?
I've tried it with "Input" + "Choose Input Method" but I have no glue what has to be entered there.
