No mobile connection - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions & Answers

It seems like the update from a couple of days ago broke my network connection. Phone still works with WiFi calling. There is no signal at all. Very frustrating and no idea where to start. Airplane mode on off, restart, data off on. Tried to search for the mobile network, reset APN. Any ideas?? This really sucks.

Have you tried removing and reinserting the SIM? Other than that, I'm thinking you might want to take the most desperate step, and call 6-1-1. [emoji23]
You could try the SIM in another phone to determine if there is a problem outside your phone, and you could also try a factory reset.

I had a similar issue not too long ago on VZW...they needed to provision a new sim card for me. They didn't think it would work in the store but I insisted...they gave me the new sim card for free and thanked me for doing their job.

Well crap. That's inconvenient. I pulled the SIM and no luck. So weird that before the update everything was fine. It's really annoying to have a phone that only works on wifi.

Somehow if my efforts to level up Bixby they set my wifi calling preference to never use cellular. Damn I felt dumb in the store haha.

Nexus one not reconnecting to mobile network

My N1 will not reconnect to a mobile network if it has been sitting for a few hours in a no-coverage area, such as a building. I cannot get it to reconnect, even after refreshing the network search. This action only leaves me with no result or a message saying that there was an error in searching or connecting to mobile networks. The only solution is to restart the phone. Every time I try to turn the phone off after this error has occurred, the shutdown sequence hangs until either I become frustrated and do a battery pull, or it automatically restarts and do a battery pull, or it automatically restarts itself. Furthermore, the phone used to give me an error notification saying that the phone does not have carrier service. Now, it does not. Furthermore, the phone used to give me an error notification saying that the phone does not.
I tried uninstalling all my programs and nothing has worked for me. I've also tried toggling the airplane mode to no avail.
I'm considering putting on the cyanogen ROM to see if it would fix this error, but I am hesitant to void my warranty. It's a pretty serious problem as I'm very frequently in a building where I don't get service. It's quite frustrating to have to wait to reconnect to a mobile network once I leave the building and hope that the error didn't occur or have to do a battery pull every time I realize that the phone simply won't reconnect.
Can anyone suggest any solutions?
Mod it. What have you got to lose? Your overall performance will increase. The radio signal may even improve. Your call.

thanks for the tip. i've been thinking about it. it's the warranty i don't want to lose. eh i'll keep thinking about it.
this phone sucks. it's glitchy, can be sluggish. iphone got dumbed down but at least its functions work.

Hey!
You dont want to lose your warranty, then use it!
Your phone seems to be faulty...
My phone is experiencing the same problem as of yesterday. Won't connect. Wonder if it's a T-Mobile issue.

Its only glitchy coz you have stock rom
Cyanogen is really stable and adds alot of features / functionality.
Fair enough you dont want to lose warranty but i remember in the general thread that lots of hardware failures and others can still fix your n1 under warranty even though they unlocked the bootloader.
I too have this problem, hopefully the 2.2 update will fix the problems.
Can you guys confirm if its android or your service provider thats causing this...

I have the same problem and it's starting to bother me a lot because my car is parked in a garage with no coverage. My in-car BT then becomes useless as my phone won't reconnect to the network once I exit the garage
I just called Google support 10 mins ago about this and they went through normal protocol to reset to factory settings. They then called Tmo and let them know what the issue was while I was still on the phone. Tmo unregistered my phone from the network while my battery was taken out of my phone and then reregistered my phone to the network. Tmo asked me to monitor this for a few days and call them directly (not Google) if the issue persists. They will then elevate this to a higher level because they feel this would be a network problem, and not a hardware issue.
Hope this helps! Please post what you have tried to solve the problem!

^ it worked! my phone reconnects to the cellular network after what Google/Tmo did for me on the phone!
I haven't tried calling tmobile, but it is NOT something that will be fixed by hopping on cyanogen's rom. I've been rooted on cyanogen's rom for quite some time and this problem still exists on my n1 which is SUPER annoying. I will try calling tmobile to see if they can fix it on their side, but rooting is not the fix here.
I had the same issue. I used anycut and phone info shortcut and changed the wireless default setting to us and it totally fixed the problem. Have not had that issue again.

I resolved this by going to the T-Mobile store where they replaced my SIM card. They made a copy to a new SIM card, installed it and everything works fine.
For the record symptoms included:
* "Error while searching for network" message
* Found networks but said "your SIM card is not authorized for this network" when connecting
* Network listed as "No service" or "Emergency calls only | T-Mobile"
I get this too with an at&t phone.
Have asked for a replacement device from HTC (since the reception is crappy to begin with).
I also have audio quality problems when reception is only 1-2 bars.
Will see if the new phone is better.
I had this problem regularly. It hasn't happened once since I upgraded to Froyo, so I think it has been fixed in that release.
sometimes have this too, i fix it by going to the settings > wireless > mobile networks > APN. at first i deleted and retyped my password in the selected APN, now i just click my network in the APN settings, don't change anything and leave. It immediately reconnects after that.
edit: and i have stock froyo & live in belgium.
I got a new, replacement phone from HTC today.
This new phone has a BIG PROBLEM with this issue.
Even if I am only without reception for a couple of seconds (go through the garage, etc.) it will not connect to any network until I reboot.
My old phone would only experience this problem maybe 25-35% of the time.
Very, very annoying!!!

I had similar issues and called tmobile support. I was first linked to Google support. They went through the similar process as described by in the first page. (#*#*4636*#*# select USA band etc). While I was on hold, they called t mobile tech support and had them reset network connection and tried to get me onto a different tower etc.
Tmobile support stated that my sim card (had for about 2 years) was the cause of the issue as they can't handle smartphones as well as their new sim cards. They also said the new sim should improve reception and connection stability (Don't see how a new sim could do this but what do I know?). Moreover, they noted my account and told me to go into the nearest store for a new sim card. Went into the nearest tmobile store told them the issue, they pulled up my account and gave me a new sim. Took less then 5 minutes and I have not had the issue with staying connected to the tmobile network.
I will update this after a few days to see if I still have the issue.
I have the same problems that i cannot connect to network here in germany. first i think it was my sim card, but befor i had another provider (E-Plus) where i had the same problems with reconnecting to network. and one day my eplus sim card is broken so i had to buy a new one by t-mobile. i have tried a lot of roms from here (cyanogen/ 5.0.7 /5.0.8T5 Kangorama rodriquezstyle and leofroyo) everyone seems to have the same problems with reconnecting to network. i hope im not alone with my problems and someone can help.
hmm...
Count me as another. I just upgraded to froyo and it went beserk. Had no service for a while. It would only come on after constantly tapping "select network automatically" until it kicked me out of the menu. It started getting better but kept kicking me out of 3g. I set it to stay always on 3g and it seems to be better... still I'm going to call tmobile and see if I can get a new sim as well.
Thanks for the info guys!

HELP: Shows Signal but cannot use for calling, data, messaging!!!

On my Phone(Andromeda 2.0 Themed), I get the indication of having 3g or any signal at all and the minute I attempt to send a message, make a call, or surf the web it is unable to send that message, unable to make that call, and unable to surf the web. Help on how to fix this?
NOTE: A flash back to stock DID NOT help this problem at all.
EDIT: Changing APN isn't really working(Cant leave the APN type as not set because it auto sets it to internet+mms when I save) and I am starting to get a little frustrated. The reception was really working fine earlier today but now its just weird all over. Please help me out you guys, I really need this working.
EDIT2: Please help guys, I really need my service up for tomorrow.
EDIT3: I am going to AT&T today to swap out my SIM card!!!! I am all Odin'ed out and I will check back if this works.
First try to enable airplane mode. Then turn it off.
If that does not work check your apn settings, under wireless and network, mobile networks, access points

Doing that now.... The signal bar indicates no connected network.... Trying the second thing you suggested....
For the second option I am under Wireless and Network/Mobile Networks/Access Points.
My options from there are AT&T 310 410(the text under it says wap.cingular)
What do i do from there?????
That reads correct. Unless you are on rogers. Hmmm. I am on the same rom but do not have the same issue. You may want to manually configure you're apn. You may want to search the captivate forum for at&t apn settings. I think you can find them in one of the stickies
I am on att dude. Thanks for the advice. You are positive its the APN though? This happened to me on Phoenix Reloaded too.

No I am not sure, I have not had your problem but this is where I would start if it did. The apn settings are posted in the captivate development stickies, captivate directory
Okay, so I configured the APN settings to what was found in the thread. Problem is the only thing I cannot configure is the APN type. Hm. Any help?
I am sorry I hope someone who has done this reads this and has a suggestion but I have not had to do this
Read through the sticky, maybe yet has been discussed
Read through it and nothing. It wont let me keep the APN type as not set and it automatically sets it to internet+mms. Any ideas?
Have you posted in the andromeda thread? Maybe the devs may have some ideas
I just did, hopefully they have an answer and if they dont hopefully someone will post an answer here....
I had the same issue back a few weeks ago. I called att, got a replacement phone, and it did it again. Turned out to be a bad SIM.

So do I just need a new sim card???
Well, this sim card JUST started doing this. So are you sure it is just the sim? I mean, if I go to the store to get a new sim, will they ask to see my phone? Will I have to flash back to stock before I get a new SIm?

Well, thanks, I will head first thing in the morning.
I got the same problem at certain locations, such as my university. Haven't been able to get much help... Gonna try getting the SIM changed as it's a pretty old SIM. Weird thing is that it works fine on my Sony Ericsson G705/W715.
So almost two months of owning my Captivate that I got from Rogers (BNIB from Kijiji) and I noticed that at a certain area in my school, I have 3/5 bars of signal yet I can't seem to text/call and use the network. Is this a network problem or phone problem? Or can it also be my SIM? My SIM card is pretty old. However everything was fine when I use my Sony Ericsson W715 in the same area.
I should add that my friends on the same network beside me, they can text/call fine, which leads me to believe that this is a phone problem. A poster over at Howard Forums suggested network congestion, but it seems impossible because everyone else can use their phone fine.
I've tried different modems too, but it doesn't help. It's like my Captivate doesn't want to work at certain areas of my school.

I am just going to change my SIM. It is about 4 years old now and I think that means it needs to be replaced. I actually worked fine at my home before and now it cant even find a network. I am going to head out for a new SIM in a little bit, I will get back to you on if it works then.

[Q] Tablet shuts down when trying to access SIM card

Hi chaps, I have tried searching across the internet with no luck, here's the deal.
I bought this p1000 galaxy tab some days ago from a guy on a forum. tried it thoroughly before paying, inserted my phone SIM, got a phone call, sms, 3G internet, wifi, all working flawless. I used it for some days wi-fi only waiting for my new tablet SIM to be ready.
Monday, I receive the SIM but it still had to be activated. I just kept it in the tablet waiting for it to be OK. Zero problems, just the usual "no service" message like you would expect from a sim that's yet to activate
This morning I finally get the SIM activated, but as soon as I try sending a text or something, the tablet just shuts down. After that, no way trying to boot it up again: it reaches the Samsung logo, then bye bye. If you remove the SIM from the tray it magically comes back to life.
I already tried the usual stuff, like hard resetting and like, cleaning the SIM or something. I also tried with another carrier sim and I get the same behavior. I'm starting to believe that there is some hardware fault with the SIM reader, but I thought I'd try to get some hints from here before calling Sammy's assistance. Also the weirdest part is that it worked some days ago!
If anyone has any idea/experience to share, I'd love to hear from you mates. thanks in advance!
(oh and btw I know how to hit a thanks button)
I'll update the post with further intel, maybe it will help someone down the road.
The tablet does not like freshly activated SIMs. I know it sounds crazy but that's where we are at. We have tried like 4 different SIM cards from different operators, all work flawlessly; The SIM card of the above NOW works flawlessly as well, it just needed a couple days to settle down. I have no idea if this is a software bug, a hardware fault or some strange network settings from my carrier, but the problem seems to be solved for now. Luckily i didn't send it in for repairs!

[Q] N6 - No incoming & outgoing Calls, mobile data gone.

Having my Nexus 6 for almost a month. Things working perfectly in the starting(or after reset), but after two or three days, No incoming calls, no outgoing calls. No mobile data. Cant realy tell it as a mobile sometimes. Wifi is working good always. After reset, it is working properly for two or three days. Whenever it is not working, I am able to see a !-mark near the tower bar.
My mobile always connected to 4G when no wifi.
No Custom ROMS and no root. Plain Android given by google.
Anyone having this issue. Any suggestion?
Go get a new SIM.

I was begining to think i was the only one who had this problem!
Yesterday morning i woke up and to my suprise my signal bar had a (!) it it but it was still displaying my regual signal level.
I switched my wifi of and i couldnt get a data connection just the (!) sign. I got my girlfreind to give me a ring and see if a
call would go through which it didnt it just said that i was unavalible. I then desided that a reboot might sort the problem
but when i my phone booted back up i was presented with the holow triangle signal icon to say that i had to signal. I then
popped my simacard out thinking it could have just been a bit of dust on it. I gave it a little bit of a dust of and popped it back
into my phone and i was given the same no signal and emergency calls only yet it was picking up that there was a simcard inserted.
The day before i had flashed the alpha version of PA so my next thought was that this would be a ROM bug and went ahead and
flashed chroma which i was using prior to PA and i had had no issues with. Held my fingers crossed as it booted up but much to my
dismay i was greated with the same no signal problem but i went into the settings and searched for networks. Three was one of
the network it had picke dup so i tryed to reconnect to it but i got the toast to tell me i couldnt connectto the network and to
try again later. I checked the APN settings and it had automatically grabbed threes APN from the sim card so at this stage i was
completly baffled by them problem.
My next move was to try my sim in my girlfreinds phone and what do you know it worked a charm. As a last shot to check everything
was okay and i was upto date on my bills etc i gave three a ring and they told me there was nothing wrong with my sim and everything
was working as it should be and that it was a problem with my phone.
That brings me to the point i am at now completly baffled as to the problem and slightly angry at the 2 week old phone that had been working
perfectly up until now has suddnely desided to stop with no warning.
So you are not the only one and i expect their are more of us. I am going to flash the offical stock rom from google and see if that does the
trick but im not holding up much hope i feel like im going to have to contact google and find out where the problem lies.

My sim died after a month. My calling went out and then only lte worked no 3g. Got card replaced and it works perfect now. I have US Cellular.
I've posted this in few other threads also, but I had also problem where I only had tgt exclamation mark no matter what I did. I solved the problem by waiting like 5sec before inputting my pin-code. If I input my pin code too fast after a boot, it will open my phone, but won't give me cellural network. This seems to happen in every ROM I've tried
Hi,
Solved the issue. Working fine after enabling request for SIM Pin and set my sim pin.
Usually i disable sim pin lock to have uninterrupted boot. But with ROM this is not working.
Enabling SIM pin request solves the issue.
Is this problem with carrier or Android L?

VoLTE enabled but not working

I don't think VOLTE is working for me. Maybe I'm not sure how voLTE works, but on my Nokia 9 and OnePlus 7 Pro I have an icon that says VOLTE.
When I place a call my signal goes from LTE/LTE+ to either 3G/H+. Which I don't think it's supposed to do on VOLTE.
I have:
XQ-AT51
Build Number: 58.0.A.3.170
Google Play System: September 30th 2020
Baseband version: sdx55.rmtefs-00068-13
Carrier: T-MOBILE USA
In Network & Internet > Mobile Network: Enable VoLTE is enabled
In About Phone > SIM Status: Mobile Voice network type is LTE. However, when I'm on a call it says UMTS and HSPA+ for voice and data
In *#*#4636#*#* VoLTE is also enabled.
So, I'm not sure if I'm missing something, but I've never had this issue before on my other phone.
EDIT: Spoke with a technician at T-Mobile and they said everything is fine on my account. Did say to get a new sim card, which didn't fix the issue.

I software repaired the phone and volte is working again sadly I found no other way that doesn't involve that , I too thought it was my sim card/service and switched carriers only to find the same issue but it's fixed now sucks I wasted my time looking for a solution all this time since November

I plugged my phone into my laptop and it installed the xperia companion and I picked software repair which I thought wasn't gonna erase my data but it turned out it's basically like factory reset and then I just reinstalled everything . I then updated my apn settings manually from the TMobile apn settings and it was working like it was before the dumb update but sadly wasted reinstalling but I guess I should've just done this from the beginning instead of wasting all my time fiddling with secret menus, customer service and crap so if you want it fixed definitely give it a try if not hopefully the next update fixes, I'm hoping it doesn't happen again, major time wasted searching the internet for a solution

But yeah definitely back up to a computer or something and/or Google all your stuff before you decide to software repair. If you don't have one maybe factory reset it because I honestly think they're same thing I could be wrong though but I couldn't find any difference on the internet between the two.

I am SO glad I found this thread and it's not just me having this issue.
I originally thought it was Google Voice messing with my phone, since I make calls and texts from Google Voice, and have my incoming TMobile calls and outgoing TMobile calls redirect to be to/from my Google Voice number. But even after removing Google Voice and completely unlinking it from my phone, my phone refuses to do VoLTE calls.
When receiving a call, the phone will drop down to HSPA+ and sometimes, it takes so long for it to do this, my phone only rings once before I just end up getting a missed call notification. Meanwhile, the caller says they were ringing for the full 30 seconds. Similarly when I make a call, the phone drops down to HSPA or even EDGE to make a call. When I hang up, or get off a call, boom, back to LTE or LTE+.
I went to a TMobile store and they gave me a new SIM and fiddled with my APN settings, to no avail. I haven't bothered contacting Sony, since I figure they will just blame TMobile. The only thing I haven't tried is the factory reset, which is something I very much wanted to avoid, but I'll try it with the Xperia Companion software and keep my fingers crossed. I'll update with my results.
In the meantime, I'm attaching some screenshots of my device info showing the VoLTE is indeed enabled, as well as my APN settings. Maybe they'll help someone here. (WiFi calling is apparently not a thing on this phone, which is disappointing, but I also have Google Voice under normal circumstances, so that hasn't been a problem for me).

I'm in the process of doing the "Repair" now. Hopefully this fixes it. If it does, 1- Awesome! 2- Hopefully it doesn't get borked again when Android 11 rolls around. It's supposedly making its way to the 1ii, but I personally haven't gotten it yet.

Yeah that's what I'm afraid of too i don't want to be reinstalling all my stuff again. If it happens to get stuck on you while you're doing the process just try again. Mine froze during the restarting part of the repair i just held the volume and power button at same time to hard reset it

Yup. My device appears to be bricked. The repair failed on my PC and now when attempting to turn the phone on, I'm met with "Your device is corrupt. It can't be trusted and may not work properly. It will shut down in 5 seconds."
I'm attempting to get it to boot into recovery.
I never imagined my first experience with a Sony phone would be so bad.

Yeah just horrible luck. Still prefer a software problem over a house fire like that samsung fiasco but still . Yeah just keep trying I'm sure there are ways to factory reset it and then software repair it.
R
....and Never forget its
"Enable VoLTE when available"
There might be the network issue too.
I'm in Nepal and the carrier has started VoLTE few days ago but they haven't listed my phone for VoLTE supporting device . They just have iPhone, Samsungs, Xiaomi etc and not SONY but you know what... Its working for me.
HD voice and LTE while in a call too.
Glad I found this thread. I've got an Xperia 10+ doing the same thing under Lineage 18.1 (Mermaid). Will give this a shot and see what happens. Hopefully I don't brick it.
