Multitasking/RAM - Nokia 5 Real Life Review

You're busy and don't have time to wait, which is why you need to stop reading this thread and get back to organizing your Pogs. Rate this thread to express how the Nokia 5 performs when multitasking. A higher rating indicates that the Nokia 5 keeps many apps in memory so that they don't need to reload, and that when moving between apps, transitions are smooth and performance is excellent.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!

ok when multitasking, definitely not fast though. Moto G5 feels snappier.

RAM management is perfect as far as system, preinstalled apps goes. 3rd party apps are not so good. Although, after update to 7.1.2 average RAM usage decreased from 1.4GB to 1.1GB (I'm talking about overall average, not just system). That's impressive for my eyes. And Android Oreo advertises that it has amazing RAM management. This should be good.

At least with 8.0 there was a problem with RAM management, sometimes it wouldn't even keep 2 apps in RAM. Restarting the phone would fix it temporarily. After I got 8.1 update I have yet to experience this, so it's possible that it's fixed.

Lucky you.. I still got it. I've sent ton of feedback to HMD through everywhere. Today I installed April's security update. Will see how this performs.
About the bug, it's random. One second everything works almost ok, another is horrible. It doesn't work > I go for screen recorder > everything works > Turn off screen recorder > nothing works..

App launch speed

OMG! Kim K posted another selfie with tons of cleavage! Rate this thread to express how quickly apps launch on the LG Nexus 5X. A higher rating indicates that even the most intensive apps launch quickly and without hesitation, even if they are no longer in RAM.

Apps launch quickly, no problems here. Despite having only 2GB RAM, apps stay in memory nicely.
Blistering fast, even with encryption.
Most apps open up instantly.
Instead, I'm using this to rate the storage speed, which could be faster. It's really quite fine, but given that this is using USB Type-C, it would be nice to see some slightly faster transfer speeds from external sources like a SD card or plugged into a computer.
What bugs the hell out of me is a slight pause when you launch an app (from the moment you touch the icon until the moment anything happens). Both my old N5 and a co-workers stock LG G3 are faster to start loading anything - though I have to say the actual loading is then faster on the N5X. This is mostly visible on apps that are not cached, so the phone has to start them from scratch. Unencrypted, BTW. Might also try a different launcher than Nova(?).

Stuttering and lag

Has anyone else experienced slight stuttering and lag with their P10. It is especially noticeable when scrolling the home screen or in the menu? It doesn't happen all the time but it is quite frequent and very noticeable.
It's not bad but it is annoying considering the price and the fact that the P10 is supposed to be a high-end, high performance (flagship?) device.
Not sure if it has any effect on performance but I have the app drawer enabled because I don't like having my home screen cluttered with icons.
Absolutely the same thing. It happens randomly, especially when I unlock the phone and open a folder, or scroll the home screens. ai dunno if there's any fix or possible cause of it though.
What is your firmware?
Noticed it initially on B100, but not happening on B151
Ma dio cane!!!!!!!!
You can make it work as it should, but you will need time... Version B217 from Kamgvip works pretty good. But you will need to take the time to rebrand it to Vtr-al00 and later remove all the chinese bloat with titanium backup or similar software... I am enjoying a good ROM with great performance and battery juice, but took me a couple of days to reach the point.
Oreo probably will improve the stock experience, but still doesn't meet my minimum standards (viper4android and minimal stable experience)...

I remember being abroad on vacation with activated "Power saving mode". When doing a lot at once like open Gmaps (and it starts to zoom to your location(, I had this slight stuttering like you describe it.
p10 **** phone will never again buy huwaei phone so many issues now with them.
No stuttering on stock rom just now running 8.0.0.379(C02)
Using the HyperPlus-RadioActive_Smoothie-VKY Kernel
and build.prop tweaks

Nokia 7 Plus Firmware Not Fit for Daily Use

I don't know what kind of developers HMD hires but, the software is half baked and not optimized properly.
Am I too late in saying that they should atleast provide bootloader unlock, so that we can have a better and more optimized software.
Blast Sarvikas, HMD and Nokia Mobiles on twitter and ask them either to optimize the software or provide bootloader unlock.
Problems right now:
1. Try locking phone using hardware button on an app with white screen, you will see a reddush hue when the screen turns off.
2. Very bad animation and laggy animations. App switching by double tapping recents used to be a breeze but now it's laggy af and sometimes doesn't even works.
3. Incompatibility with a lot of apps even after those apps are optimized for Android 9; Sound indictor sticks on the screen for more than one minute, phone heats a lot, battery draining, etc. One such app, that cause these problem is Lastpass.
4. Fingerprint problem; sometimes it doesn't works or is too late.
I agree with 1,2 and 4.
I have no such problems.

No issues like that on mine either.
I did not have such problems with my Nokia 7 plus. Everything is snappy and works very fast.
The only thing I noticed was crazy switching of the adaptive brightness and notifications that do not fit well the text.
Some of them are addressed in the November patch.
Coming from a phone that would never get a security update, I think this phone is heaven.

Does Oreo or Pie bring significant performance changes from Nougat?

Basically, and I'll make this short so I don't ramble, if this is a side/wifi phone where all I need it for is gaming and music, does upgrading bring anything that people 'cant live without', or is staying with an older version that has had more time to be customized a better option? I'm on Pie right now, but it's one of those things I really can't tell without setting aside time to test/experiment and focus, which I haven't ;p

Compared to nougat, the custom rom status of Oreo and Pie is miles ahead and better.....yes, there are some bugs here and there but those are minors and won't hinder your day to day usage and not to mention that even some of those bugs are being fixed and will be ironed out in the next few months of update.....recently the camera issues has been rectified and by the next updates, the camera should work flawlessly without any crashes.....even GCAM is working perfectly on the rom.....try Pixel Experience if you want, updates normally come on a monthly basis and the latest camera build prop fix posted at Pg 60-62 fixes many camera crashes.....
The only bugs which are left are normally based on the rom and its sources and normally gets fixed in the next update
.
Yes,4k recording still now doesn't work in footej camera or in Gcam, but if you really need 4k recording, use the Filmic Pro camera, it will allow you to record at 4k with variable frame rates.
In terms of performance, there are some internal improvements but for day to day scenario it is more than enough, in short you\ll be able to play PUBG at low/medium settings at 30 fps ......
What we really need is a kernel developer who can make some good custom kernels which will help in performance improvements and increase overall stability and feature array across the board....
So, in short the custom rom status is better than ever for le 2, right now ..... and this is coming from a guy who was there from the beginning when CodeWorkz was developing the nougat rom for the device....
Well then, I guess Ill stick with Pie :0 Guess Im just used to windows, to where when 10 came out, you were able to upgrade for free from 7, and dx12 was supposedly ready to be supported, so i figured, get the new directx, get to make my OS legal, why not?
Hardly any games use dx12 still to this day. Compatibility with games and such was funky, especially with scaling. Audio software like Audacity had, and still has, bugs which arent there for win7. Hardware certificates had issues for quite a while (esp Asus hardware) so i couldnt us3 my network card.
Ive prolly gone back and forth like 4 times, until i decided to just stick with 10. So i figured there might be similar issues with a phone that wasnt planned to be updated with a new os to run better with an older version.
Hope that made sense ha

Google Maps performance slowdown

Hi everyone,
I'm newly switched from my G5 to V40. I absolutely am happy with the overall performance.
The only thing I get are some terrible slowdowns after a few secs on Goggle Maps scrolling or digging into some restaurant reviews. It looks like 20-30 FPS. By pulling down the notification bar I can immediately solve the problem for a few minutes. Loading the maps offline or re- installation did not help out.
Do you have any ideas?
I'm experiencing this exact same issue, also in Google Earth. Due to how it's 110 percent reproducible and VERY VERY OBVIOUS it's actually bizzare that there hasn't been more attention given to this. This is very serious when you think about it. I know this is the amoled age and now that we all have disposable screens we aren't supposed to let Google Maps be useful anymore anyway, but still. Seems like some sort of out of touch attempt at power savings due to how it's very obviously not done for performance reasons and how it clears up when you interact with notifications (something that should DECREASE performance if anything, not INCREASE it lol).
I by the way had contacted the service desk of LG and sent them a screen record, that even reflected that topic.
They couldn't see anything weird about it^^...
Can't wait for Android 10. Maybe it is solved although unknown ?
Try clear cache/data, force stop and soft reset. Also weekly soft resets are good for maintenance.
