How to find original build number? - P8 Lite (2017) Discussion

Hello.
I am new to everything related to Huawei and I have a small doubt please.
I have a Huawei P9 Lite 2017 PRA-LX1 (exactly the same phone and specs as P8 Lite 2017; just a different name used by Huawei for marketing and regional purposes).
I have recently updated the build number through the inbuilt Huawei system update to version B162.
Please note that this was only a 400MB update with very minor changes and it was not a full ROM installation. Please see attached screenshot.
I am going to unlock the bootloader, TWRP and root very soon. I read that on the forum that sometimes people have to flash the original version of the build number when their phone gets soft or hard bricked in order to recover their phone.
I wanted to download the original build number as safety in case something goes wrong.
I can't remember the build number I had previously to B162.
1. How would I find the original build number I was on when I bought the phone? Only through a factory reset?
2. Is it really necessary the original build number to recover my phone (if needed one day) or another build would work?
Sorry but I find this Huawei updating method rather complicated or confusing.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Factory reset don't work because it will same build that you on now. Perhaps if you install firmware finder you can see previous builds

Thank you for the answer.
I do have Firmware Finder installed but as I mentioned I did not memorise the previous build number so I would not know which one to look for.
I suppose that if I search for build number B162 (my current updated version) it would work in case I need to flash the original version if any problems arise.
Correct me if I am wrong.
Also in relation to my question #2 any idea please?
Thank you so much.

I have honor 4x(different phone, but this part of the phones might be same).
I think FULL firmwares from firmware finder can be flashed in TWRP and in that case you'll only need to worry about getting the firmware which has the same specs as your phone.
TWRP dosen't do any version checking so you don't need to find exactly correct version.
I don't know will this work, but if you get stuck it's good to know.

Yes it is good to know I will be able to flash any version as long as it is for PRA-LX1.
With some other phone brands I had in the past downgrading was out of the question (LG G3 and G4 for example).
Not sure about Huawei in relation to downgrading.
My opinion is that this should be all standardised all across Android anyway and not all different between phone manufacturers.
Thanks for your reply.

basically the only thing you need to look at is C432 in the firmware number

Thanks a lot!

You MAY find your original build number according to your region:
https://mobiletech360.co/huawei-p8-lite-2017-stock-firmwarerom-android-7-nougat-pra-lx1/
But even if you do i doubt that you can revert it back, I had a PRA-LX1C464 which is the region code for Turkey, I wanted to update it through Firmware Finder and successfully did. But it changed my phone' build number to PRA-LX1C432, and I can't revert it back to C464. My phone is single SIM, but the firmware I'm using is dual SIM (wtf huawei? ) . So far so good though, phone works fine.

You need to rebrand your phone aka flash another oeminfo that is related to your device. This will lock your bootloader, so make sure you are on stock EMUI first, flash the new oeminfo (make sure it belongs to your device), go to erecovery and restore your device, this will wipe all your data and download the firmware of the oeminfo you flashed. You can unlock your bootloader afterwards.

Update to Nougat from L09-C900

Are there anyone who installed the new OS version starting from a C900 rom? I tried flasing C432B322 from C900B166 via dload method and it failed at 37%! Any tip or suggest? thx.
Can't believe nobody answered your question, i asked a simple question on here before and no reply, so i just answer other people's question instead, i too have C900B181 and have not found the C900 model for the nouget version. Any luck? I should have just updated to the C432 instead.
C900 means its a cross flashed firmware (where the oeminfo and the firmware does not match). I also believe that C900 does not get updates or is the last firmware to get updates.
P.S. People on XDA usually dont answer simple questions that can be found by searching Google or has been mentioned a number of times in the forums and yes, information about C900 has been mentioned a number of times in the P9 forum.

As mentioned, C900 is a cross-flash version. Your only options are to roll back to the previous/original firmware, or to follow one of the guides to de-brand (which includes steps to match your oeminfo partition to the firmware).

Device Won't Boot After "Device Is Now Booting" Screen

Hello,
I have just unlocked my HuaWei P9 and installed TWRP 3.0.0-0 on it.
The device was refusing to install SuperSU as it kept saying the zip was corrupt, even though it definitely wasn't. (I even tried multiple different ones)
Then I saw a tutorial that said this can be fixed by going into the Wipe menu, Advanced Wipe, selecting Data and changing the file system to EXT4. I did that (even though it was already on EXT4) and now my device won't boot past the "your device has been unlocked and can't be trusted. To learn more, visit: (link)
Your device is booting now...." screen.
Please may anybody help me? I can access the recovery menu and the TWRP menu, but not the actual android os. In the TWRP file viewer, the device is not blank so I know that the device has not been erased.
Thank you very much! I am not bothered about rooting anymore, I would just like my device to work. Any help will be very much appreciated.

I have all of the original packaging, is there any way to find out more information about my device through that?
EDIT: I have managed to find out the IMEI, if that is of any use.
Did you take note of your current ROM version that is on the phone? It should be named like this for example.
L09C432B136
L09C is the model no of the phone e.g EVA-L09C.
C432 is the CUST (Also for OEMinfo)
B136 is the build number of the ROM.
Did you flash any roms or are you still using the original ROM that came with the phone? Also do you remember if you were on marshmallow or nougat?

I did not note any information as I wasn't expecting to have any issues, I've rooted a few phones before and have never encountered any issues.
I managed to fix the issue by using the above method with both volume buttons and the power button - I downloaded "dload-huawei-p9-eval09-eva-b136.zip" and installed that ROM, which was successful
Thank you so much for your help.
No worries. That is usually a failsafe version in case anything goes wrong. Network for 3g/4g is working I hope and build number is displayed fully in settings right?
As different CUST ID from ROM can cause many issues.

I will have to look into what when I place my SIM into my phone as I am waiting for a carrier unlock code.
At the moment, the only issue is my homescreen wallpaper showing up as my lockscreen one, which I created a thread for.
Is there any way to check the original cust id?

[Guide] Huawei P10 Plus Debrand/Rebrand/Update for Oreo&Nougat
This thread will be discontinued, because Huawei refuses to provide unlock codes in the future, because of security reasons.
A shame that after the support end of the device it will be quite useless, cause you don´t get any security updates and have no chance to make secure again, by flashing someting else.
I recommend you not buy any Huaweidevices in the future cause of that.
Here´s my P10 Guide, the steps are the same for the P10 Plus: Huawei P10 Plus Debrand/Rebrand/Update for Oreo&Nougat
Just use the following files for the P10 Plus instead:

Doesn't work on a converted single sim UK P10 plus to dual sim. Used this method to go back to B123 to get the phone to work. It was showing a different model number each time I tried to update to B177 using this method.

Did you already use this method before? Seems you messed up with the 1 of the 3 updatefiles. Especially the update_all_hw.zip which is only for the l29 or l09.
Did you try to update via firmware finder and did you make check with imei in that tool? That should fix your problems, if you use the FullOTA.

The FULLOTA in firmware finder says 'The firmware is not approved for installation'.
I have VKY-L09C432 which I converted to VKY-L29C432 and was on B170. I used the 3 update files from the the link you provided in step 2 'HWOTA_VKY-L29C432_B177.zip'. Was I supposed to change any of these files?

No, i think you just haven´t read the guide carefully. In firmwarefinder choose an older one, that is approved for installation.

I am back on L29C432B170 via normal OTA.
Probably messed up on 2. Run the update.bat file from a preopended CMD with adminrights, It will ask you if you copied the files. Press any key to continue.
I just ran update.bat file as an administrator. That was the only thing I did differently to the guide.
Hello guys!
So I recently bought a "Huawei P10 Plus VKY-AL00 6GB RAM 128GB Dual-Sim" from China. I want to rebrand this model to "Huawei P10 Plus VKY-L29 6GB RAM 128GB Dual-Sim". Ive unlocked bootloader. So what shall I do now ? This tutorial above is for the european model. Please help me thx!
No connection to the mobile network after rebranding
Hi
I went through all your described steps and everything worked fine. However, I've got a strange problem.
I have different SIM cards available (multiple mobiles), but only one (prepaid from croatia) is working after the procedure. The ones from Vodafone Germany and Swisscom do not work.
They work fine on other mobiles. Everything else is working fine on the P10+. The SIMs not working, are displayed in the phone, but will not connect to the mobile network of any provider.
No available networks are listed. Both SIM-slots tested.
Any idea, where the problem could come from?
Thanks for your help.

There's a walkthrough for using HWOTA to rebrand to the L29 model: https://forum.xda-developers.com/p1...nvert-to-dualsim-huawei-p10-plus-vky-t3605071 Works very well, changed my Fido/Rogers L09 without any issues. The instructions can be a little confusing but you should be ok if you've flashed phones before.

Hi,
I can't get TWRP to work on my VKY-L29. Everytime I try to get in TWRP, I get into the normal Huawei recovery again. Phone's Bootloader is definitely unlocked and it also says that writing the TWRP was sucessful. I followed all the steps as they're written. Any thoughts on how to fix this?

Doing the rebrand seems to work (if i do it twice on the update script it shows VKY-L29C432 but after booting up it still is NRD90M.
I can boot to fastboot/twrp/erecovery without issues.
Used this file HWOTA_VKY-L29C432_B177.zip

Advice P10 stuck on March 2017

Hi,
End of January I bought a P10 SIM free from a major UK retailer.
It is stuck on March 1st 2017 updates, with no updates available.
I contacted Huawei support - they say my IMEI should be on B162. But I get no update OTA, and even through the HiSuite app it says I have latest.
They said I have to send the phone back for 2 weeks and they will factory reset and upgrade. This is unbelievable to me.
They told me if I use the firmware finder app I would void warrenty. But I thought if I do not root and install the authorised firmware version (B162) then they wouldn't know or it wouldn't be a problem.
I am a little confused by the number of different firmwares in the app, many with the same version number. How do I know which to use? What is the difference between OTA-MF and FullOTA-MF (from the sizes I guess full is full and other is incremental).
Will any of them get me back on the official upgrade path, or if I do this will it be manual updates forever from now on?
Do I have to root to install the firmware from firmware finder (I think not?)
I always thought people who focussed on stock android were silly, and I quite like EMUI but I am really regretting buying Huawei now.

depending on your CUST code you'll have to claim contact to your brand... I mean if your rom is "customized" by the carrier is not only Huawei but also the carrier who has to work on the update the other option depending on your model is to Debrand and change the firm to L29C432 and get the updates of the official but be careful about bricks or Sim detection problems...read all threads talking about debranding and go ahead if you feel confident to avoid a brick

Hardware is (almost) the same. L29 allows to use both sims in the sim tray.
Just to update.
I used Firmware Finder to install B186A update. Worked perfect and have January 2018 security patch level.
The more recent B185 firmwares are rollback firmwares for downgrading from Oreo. Check the release notes carefully and make sure you chose an upgrade firmware (not a rollback firmware) that is authorized for your IMEI. (For me B186 was not approved but B186A was).
None of the Oreo firmwares were authorized for my device.

Were you able to simply download the firmware from Firmware Finder and install directly? Were there any other steps you had to follow to do this correctly?
Reason i ask is that i am in same situation as you were. Purchased Sept 2017 via O2 in the UK, no updates at all (still on L90C432B113), contacted Huawei and O2 about Oreo with no possible updates and showing March 2017 Security Patch Level.
Getting sick of waiting and looking to move to Oreo as soon as possible.
Any tips would be helpful - thanks in advance.

Sorry for the delay getting back to you.
I was on B120 with a Serbia certified P10.
I installed B186A from Firmware Finder. (at the time I did it B185 was not approved). Its important to do the check with the IMEI number within the app to see if the firmware is signed for your device. I did the proxy method, where you set the proxy, pause download at 5%, unset proxy and it worked very smoothly.
I think the main thing is to make sure you chose an upgrade firmware and not a rollback firmware. They are not labelled clearly and the only difference is in the readmes so check carefully. There are a few more recent B185 firmwares which I found confusing, but they are for people who need to rollback from orea (and so reset the device).
A couple of days later I got Oreo B365 over the air (not through the app). Upgrade went very smooth.
Big improvement in battery life and overall performance better all round.
With Project Treble in place I hope updates will be quicker, and maybe even easy to install stock one day.

Can I change from LLD-AL10 to LLD-L31 on a Honor 9 Lite?

Hi All,
I'm new here so please let me know if I've posted incorrectly.
I have a second hand Honor 9 Lite that I would like to use here in the UK.
It has LLD-AL10 (Build 9.1.0.130) EMUI 9.1.0 Android 9.
I think the 'firmware' I need for European is LLD-L31.
Firstly is it possible to change these base operating systems from one country/region to another please?
Secondly if it's possible and can be done ... how do I do it please?
It's a given to me handset with not data to worry about, factory reset unlocked handset.
It looks very nice and I didn't want to give up on it because I can not get the play store and standard gmail apps.
Many thanks in advance.

Hi All,
I'm new here so please let me know if I've posted incorrectly.

Yes, it is. You need :
1. downgrade to Oreo via HiSuite (process will erase all your data!)
2. unlock bootloader on your phone (you must downgrade to lower build number with google security patch from 04.2018.)
3. download fullOTA-MF Oreo firmware for region C432 from Firmware Finder
4. rebrand your device to C432 using tool "HWOTA8_LLD"

Or, after bootloader unlocking, root your phone and simly flash Open-GAPPS via TWRP. (a simpler solution, IMO).

Thank you so very much, I really want to use this so I am going to try your suggestion very soon.
I'm going to try hard to understand these individual steps, there is nothing on the phone to worry about so that's a start. Hopefully I can find a way following your kind suggestion.
Many thanks

I've completed the first part after connecting through HiSuite and downgrading to AL10 8.0.0.189(C00)
Does the process cost? i.e. do I need to buy credits in these stages please?
Next is unlocking the boot loader and the lower build number with that 04.2018 security patch somehow?
Many thanks

Next is downgrading to the lower build number, You need to buy credits . You can try two firmware only, LLD-AL10 8.0.0.100(C00) or LLD-AL10 8.0.0.171(C00).
8.0.0.171 contains Google patch from 05.2018, but it's worth a try...

Extract the archive contents and follow instructions in "ReleaseDoc" .
