Device Won't Boot After "Device Is Now Booting" Screen - Huawei P9 Questions & Answers

Hello,
I have just unlocked my HuaWei P9 and installed TWRP 3.0.0-0 on it.
The device was refusing to install SuperSU as it kept saying the zip was corrupt, even though it definitely wasn't. (I even tried multiple different ones)
Then I saw a tutorial that said this can be fixed by going into the Wipe menu, Advanced Wipe, selecting Data and changing the file system to EXT4. I did that (even though it was already on EXT4) and now my device won't boot past the "your device has been unlocked and can't be trusted. To learn more, visit: (link)
Your device is booting now...." screen.
Please may anybody help me? I can access the recovery menu and the TWRP menu, but not the actual android os. In the TWRP file viewer, the device is not blank so I know that the device has not been erased.
Thank you very much! I am not bothered about rooting anymore, I would just like my device to work. Any help will be very much appreciated.

Download a custom ROM flash it via twrp (if you di have twrp previlages ) or download official firmware with same cust as your then put in your microsd>dload(folder)>update.app
Then flash it from phone

Mine is an EVA-L09 and it was running Anrdoid 6.0.0. That is all I know as I have not had it for long. If there is any other information you need, please may you tell me how I can find that out?

I have all of the original packaging, is there any way to find out more information about my device through that?
EDIT: I have managed to find out the IMEI, if that is of any use.

Did you take note of your current ROM version that is on the phone? It should be named like this for example.
L09C432B136
L09C is the model no of the phone e.g EVA-L09C.
C432 is the CUST (Also for OEMinfo)
B136 is the build number of the ROM.
Did you flash any roms or are you still using the original ROM that came with the phone? Also do you remember if you were on marshmallow or nougat?

I did not note any information as I wasn't expecting to have any issues, I've rooted a few phones before and have never encountered any issues.
I managed to fix the issue by using the above method with both volume buttons and the power button - I downloaded "dload-huawei-p9-eval09-eva-b136.zip" and installed that ROM, which was successful
Thank you so much for your help.

No worries. That is usually a failsafe version in case anything goes wrong. Network for 3g/4g is working I hope and build number is displayed fully in settings right?
As different CUST ID from ROM can cause many issues.

I will have to look into what when I place my SIM into my phone as I am waiting for a carrier unlock code.
At the moment, the only issue is my homescreen wallpaper showing up as my lockscreen one, which I created a thread for.
Is there any way to check the original cust id?

Some released firmware has UPDATE.APP for vendor. In can be found in folder named "Part 2". Inside of it you can find the file with a capacity of 17.9 kb. Hoping that Vodacom released it somewhere.

I know it has. But we need CUSTC02 to get this firmware B817 work for non Vodacom user. 432 or 433 and etc. wont make this firmware work normally except having CUSTC02. This firmware can be used by Vodacom user only normally without having CUST error during installation.

Anyway, no problem about bootloader locked. I kept my unlocked code. But, still not working on B817. Still we need CUSTC02.
It's not so much of an issue from what can see. I did a factory reset and restored all my apps and data to see what happens. Still the same except that I now have LTE. Still no cust. If you have a look at the cust folder for our network, you'll see that there are masses of applications that will automatically install, all of which I am not partularly interested in. All I am interested in is the fact that everything runs and runs more smoothly than any other version I have used before, and there are no visible bugs so far

I totally agree with @rodlane .... this build is almost bug free .... only navigation bar hide option is not there .... and the battery is good .... i use 3g network all the time so it doesn't last long but no more mediaserver issues and no more heating ...... also with the built in lollipop battery saver function it is better then ever but huawei has hidden it dunno why but This app opens it :laugh:
Guys please help me I'm stuck on b800 after downgrading from b817, now I can't upgrade nor downgrade to kitkat..every rom file I flash it fails on 2%..I'm running stock firmware not rooted...
After several days finding ways how to successfully install B817 without CUST error, finally I made it. Now by playing the Vendor CUSTC version, I finally managed to change my vendor version to CUSTC02.

Official OTA firmwares for VTR-L09 for download

Hi all, i found all newest firmwares on: http://hwmt.ru/oth/HWFF/info/view.php?find_model=VTR-L09
Be carefull!
Because now iam stuck with only working fastboot and recovery. For my model (i only know what i own VTR-L09 device, but nothing more about operator, or brand) none of these FW can not be installed through "dload" folder from sdcard and iam bricked my phone trying to install wrong files using Fastboot.
And if somebody know and can tell how can write different brand, or operator firmware to phone i would be very grateful.

Maybe someone know how to restore P10 to working stage when only works Fastboot and Recovery, but nothing of these methods not working:
1. Restore from eRecovery, because no firmware list for device not found.
2. Restore from HiSuite because at the moment this model does not supported.
3. Dload updates from SD/OTG because of EMUI 5.1 security rules.

I try this FW "VTR-L09C432B113_v78079_f1", but same result "Software install failed!" on 5%.
You may understand firmware code structure? Is Cxxx number show brand/operator, or Bxxx number? Can You explain to me firmware code structure?
For example this firmware "VTR-L09C432B113", has 3 parts in name..

OTA can be with two different types Full or Update. For full OTA images is it impossible to extract Update.app file to SD card or OTG "dload" folder and install it? Like it done in this post http://rootmygalaxy.net/how-to-manually-install-ota-updates-on-huawei-devices/?

No u cant, u can extract it but it will fail on update. U must have a FULL firmware to do it, and it has to be signed by Huawei before u can update. The only solution is a paid solution that i sent to u on PM.

Hey,
I have found the full images for European Model on a page (sorry, can't share the link due to forum restrictions just yet. I googled for
Code:
"vtr-l09C432" full
and picked the russian page from the results.)
I am currently downloading VTR-L09C432B123 OTA FULL, because I had somehow lost my camera app, and will try to reflash it using the dload method.
The page downloads the update from the official huawei update mirrors, so I feel much more comfortable with this approach than with the paid options.
Update currently failing as my only micro SD card is formatted FAT32, and the update.app file is 4GB

Two quotes, two anwsers:
Yes and no.
I have now enabled dual sim on my VTR-L09C432 - I can make a pic of my package if you don't believe
But I can use it only as Dual Sim Standby. That means, I have both sims active and can make calls with both sims. Internet is working with only one sim which I can choose from settings.
I used it the last 3 days and it worked good. I have my private sim with internet enabled in slot 1 and my sim for work, which is only for calls, in slot 2.
I can make calls using both sims, but when I'm in a call and someone tries to call me on my other sim, the provider tells him, I'm currently not available.
The only thing I can't do is using internet from SIM1 while calling with SIM2.
But this is a thing, I can, personally, live with.
Now I'm interested to know, how the L29 naturally works. Are there two IMEIs?
EDIT:
Screenshot of Dual Sim settings, screenshot of call protocoll, photo of package with phone.
And yes, where I live is nearly no signal - thanks Vodafone! It's a big city in Germany an there's no signal...

How do you debrand ? I want debrand mine
Hello,
I just unbranded mine and enabled Dual SIM.
I have to say it is not free... but the seller support is really great.
So from a bricked one (see my other topic) I revived it with DC Phoenix.
and then with DC-Unlocker seller'ss help, with HCU Client + DC Phoenix we succeeded to flash unbranded C432B105 ROM, and then enable the second SIM slot.
DC Phoenix is for flashing ROMs from DC-Unlocker's support area.
HCU Client is for changing values like Vendor, Country, Model...
I can't be very specific about the exact procedure (I'll let you guess why...) but the things I can tell :
1/ Flashed Warsaw-L01_C432B105_Firmware_United Kingdom_Nonspecific_Android7.0_EMUI5.1.APP with DC Phoenix (Fastboot mode and then Upgrade mode)
2/ Flashed Warsaw-L21A_C432B105_update_data_customization_hw_eu.APP with DC Phoenix (Upgrade mode only, no need for fastboot mode)
3/ Changed some values with HCU Client like :
- Model name : WAS-L01A -> WAS-L21A (not sure it was really usefull, a guess from P10 with its VTR-L09 and VTR-L29)
- Vendor : orange (default phone value from my carrier) -> hw (need to fit the custom APP flashed in step 2)
- Country : all (default phone value from my carrier) -> eu (need to fit the custom APP flashed in step 2)
- SIM card mode : Dual SIM (was already set to dual but forced it again, not sure it was usefull)
- ... (you'll have to guess what and why you have to guess it...)
You'll need 15 credits for DC Phoenix and 8 credits for HCU client... you can think it is expensive, but yesterday my phone was bricked, so his help and support saved my phone, and my day!
Don't ask me to upload my OEMinfo partition as I won't unlock again my bootloader (the crappy message at boot is just not for me...), I won't flash TWRP.
It is not a hidden promotion message, it is just to tell there is an alternative solution to unbrand it and add Dual SIM support.
Bye!
It's OK, I'm in no hurry. I will wait for a totally free alternative like for my ex p8 and p9 lite

Erecovery et Huawei Suite do not recognize the device
By luck device exchanged by operator Orange. I prefer to wait until the XDA community interferes with this model.
Deleted, error post.
HELP please!
HELP please!
Any one could give me a TWRP full backup (with data partition) of P10 Lite WAS-LX1AC02B113, please? My phone isn't working, I had a full backup of my device except (data partition) then restored another backup (to enable dual sim from here) and it was corrupted so! now after restoring my official backup I have 2 problems: 1 Sound isn't working. 2 Boot logo changed to "Android" not the Huawei animated video
Any help, please?

Hello guys, I will explain my case and see how can you help me.
Model and rom: was lx1ac02b114
Carrier vodafone: single sim

Modified the oeminfo backup and inserted the above provided oeminfo WAS-LX1C432B102 by @harlock1987
Restored this modded oeminfo via twrp.
Downloaded the full rom C432 and tried to install via holding three buttons but it failed at 5%
Had to unlock the bootloader again, got relocked.
Restored the first original twrp backup and now the nfc is blinking
I've read a lot googling , got the concepts, know how to do it but I have a lot of points to study and it's not clear.
Can anyone help me out? Again, was lx1ac02b114 vodafone, need working dualsim and stable system. I'm from Spain.
Please, any help is much appreciated!! Just need someone to guide me in the right direction with the right files, that's all.
I need the telephone to work, so I will do some test when I'll be in holiday. The method to debrand P10 and P10plus use a modded recovery that probably solve the error at 5%, but I don't know how to create one.
I'm wondering if extracting the different partition from update.app using update extractor and then flash them through fastboot would work.
If you tipe *#*#2846579#*#* then you find a menu with SDcard upgrade, to force the update, but on a forum about P9 they said that the 3 part that you download with firmware finder should have been so:
/dload/UPDATE.APP
/dload/dt/default/update_data_dt_default.app
/dload/hw/eu/update_data_hw_eu.app
/dload/hw/normal/update_data_hw_normal.app

but the data update only have a data directory and no update.app and the hw has both update.app and a data directory of 680 Mbyte full with programs.
Any suggestion?

I've extracted each files using huawei extractor.
As my my bootloader said it was unlocked but actually was relocked, any attempt to flash system img was giving error
Took me a while to realize the phone was lying about being unlocked and thought about reunlocking it again. But was too late and had to sleep.
Gonna flash system img via fastboot command later on and report here, hopefully we will manage to do it.
So if I restore those oeminfo files C432 I should flash a C432 rom aswell, right?
Would that be enough?

How to find original build number?

Hello.
I am new to everything related to Huawei and I have a small doubt please.
I have a Huawei P9 Lite 2017 PRA-LX1 (exactly the same phone and specs as P8 Lite 2017; just a different name used by Huawei for marketing and regional purposes).
I have recently updated the build number through the inbuilt Huawei system update to version B162.
Please note that this was only a 400MB update with very minor changes and it was not a full ROM installation. Please see attached screenshot.
I am going to unlock the bootloader, TWRP and root very soon. I read that on the forum that sometimes people have to flash the original version of the build number when their phone gets soft or hard bricked in order to recover their phone.
I wanted to download the original build number as safety in case something goes wrong.
I can't remember the build number I had previously to B162.
1. How would I find the original build number I was on when I bought the phone? Only through a factory reset?
2. Is it really necessary the original build number to recover my phone (if needed one day) or another build would work?
Sorry but I find this Huawei updating method rather complicated or confusing.
Thanks in advance for any advice.
Factory reset don't work because it will same build that you on now. Perhaps if you install firmware finder you can see previous builds

Thank you for the answer.
I do have Firmware Finder installed but as I mentioned I did not memorise the previous build number so I would not know which one to look for.
I suppose that if I search for build number B162 (my current updated version) it would work in case I need to flash the original version if any problems arise.
Correct me if I am wrong.
Also in relation to my question #2 any idea please?
Thank you so much.

I have honor 4x(different phone, but this part of the phones might be same).
I think FULL firmwares from firmware finder can be flashed in TWRP and in that case you'll only need to worry about getting the firmware which has the same specs as your phone.
TWRP dosen't do any version checking so you don't need to find exactly correct version.
I don't know will this work, but if you get stuck it's good to know.

Yes it is good to know I will be able to flash any version as long as it is for PRA-LX1.
With some other phone brands I had in the past downgrading was out of the question (LG G3 and G4 for example).
Not sure about Huawei in relation to downgrading.
My opinion is that this should be all standardised all across Android anyway and not all different between phone manufacturers.
Thanks for your reply.
basically the only thing you need to look at is C432 in the firmware number

You MAY find your original build number according to your region:
https://mobiletech360.co/huawei-p8-lite-2017-stock-firmwarerom-android-7-nougat-pra-lx1/
But even if you do i doubt that you can revert it back, I had a PRA-LX1C464 which is the region code for Turkey, I wanted to update it through Firmware Finder and successfully did. But it changed my phone' build number to PRA-LX1C432, and I can't revert it back to C464. My phone is single SIM, but the firmware I'm using is dual SIM (wtf huawei? ) . So far so good though, phone works fine.

You need to rebrand your phone aka flash another oeminfo that is related to your device. This will lock your bootloader, so make sure you are on stock EMUI first, flash the new oeminfo (make sure it belongs to your device), go to erecovery and restore your device, this will wipe all your data and download the firmware of the oeminfo you flashed. You can unlock your bootloader afterwards.

Revert rebrand

Hey everyone,
So, a couple months back I rebranded my EVA-L09 to a VIE-AL10 through the rebrand tool.
A couple weeks back I wanted to revert back to EVA-L09 to go back to Magic Rainbow v4 or v3.
I failed in trying to rebrand it back and ended up where I am now, I have TWRP installed, I can do the dload methods to install whatever, but I can't for the life of me get any ROM or firmware to boot. It either doesn't go past the "Your device is not trusted" screen or it hangs at the boot animation.
Extra notes: Yes I was on Oreo when I tried to revert, I am currently not on Oreo as I tried to flash a Nougat VIE-AL10 firmware to attempt to get the phone to at least boot to a usable state for the time being, however now it's stuck on a boot animation.
Would appreciate any help,
Cheers.
Update:
I tried to follow this: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=77161313&postcount=2
But as mentioned above the phone hangs on "Your device is booting now..." after HWOTA copies the Nougat firmware files.

EVA is P9, VIE is P9 Plus
Don't mix firmwares, you wll (no wonder if you really mixed), brick the phone
One procedure is for P9 = EVA (and this is P9 portal here):
rebranding from EVA L09/L19 to EVA AL00c00b535 and back
https://forum.xda-developers.com/p9-plus/development/rebrand-update-tool-hwota7-p9-plus-vie-t3843930

Be more specific, confirm
- Your phone is P9 or P9 Plus?
If P9, was it L09 (single SIM) or L19 (dual SIM)
- On exactly which Chinese Oreo have you been (cannot be VIE, you must well know what you exactly had and what you were flashing), was it EVA -AL00c00 or what and which build number bXX it was
- Did you go to some Open Kirin/AOSP custom ROM or stayed on that stock Chinese ROM?
You first had to come back to Chinese stock Oreo, not downgrading to Nougat directly from Open Kirin / AOSP
- Downgrading consists of several steps, HiSuite to go to Chinese Nougat and then HWOTA7 to rebrand to eg c432 Nougat.
Up to each step did you exactly do when you got stuck in Booting?
-More precisely, if you downgraded by HiSuite to AL10c00 Nougat, did it boot successfully (or were you here stuck at booting)?
If that step was successful, which (full build name and number) you were flashing by HWOTA7 to rebrand to from the Chinese Nougat?
-Have you tried to switch off and boot again?
Have you tried booting to Recovery and do Factory reset and Wipe Cache and Internal mem and then tried to teboot?

Sure,
EVA-L09 is a regular P9. Not a P9 Plus.
I never honestly checked which Oreo firmware I was on. I downloaded the VIE-AL10C00B535 (8.0.0.535) firmware and used that.
Yes, at one point I did go to the OpenKirin AOSP ROMs. However, I was able to do the volume + & - + Power to return to Nougat and then re-flash Oreo. After this I stayed on the EMUI 8.0 firmware.
I did not use HiSuite as it never worked for me. It would always just tell me to go to a service center.
I did not use HiSuite. When I returned to EMUI 5.0.1 from eRecovery (?) Restoring over WiFi on the actual phone it booted fine and I then upgraded again to the Oreo firmware.
Yes, I have tried rebooting.
Yes, I have tried a factory reset.
When I tried to revert from a VIE-AL10 rebrand, my phone ended up getting stuck between an AL10 and an EVA-L09. Meaning that I can use the EVA-L09 TWRP but not an EVA-L09 compatible firmware or ROM. I can only boot AL10 firmwares or ROMs however they hang at the boot animation.

Details are important, not just when writing posts but really when reading guides and flashing, otherwise bad things can happen ;(

I honestly can't remember how I did it now, it's been a while, but it did go through successfully, and it was working fine after applying the patch.
But yeah, as of now all I can use is fastboot and TWRP. That's all. I've tried flashing EVA-L09 firmware, it doesn't boot. I've flashed AL10 firmware and it gets to a boot animation, but no further than that.

There is not much hope to restore your device after all that you have done wrong → but if you try, what we recommend, we may can recover it.
I can confirm: EVA-L09 is not the same device as VIE-L09 → you can not rebrand EVA-L09 to VIE-AL10, and it is not possible to rebrand VIE-L09 to EVA-AL10 - That causes a lot of problems and you should not be surprised if your device does not boot again.
If your original device was an EVA-L09 you can rebrand to all EVA models, but not to VIE models - That's why there are two threads - one for P9 and the other for P9 Plus.
If you flash oeminfos and related Firmware → it must match with your device!
But if you think, you can flash whatever you like, then your device get "bricked". And here we are now.
BTW: Rebranding back to your originally model can not be done with HWOTA7 - as long the device is on Android 8 ! First a downgrade from Chinese Brand Oreo to Chinese Brand Nougat is required → after this step it is possible to use hwota7 again to rebrand. I have written all the steps in separate Posts after the main Thread.
First we need this Fastboot mode information, then we can see in which status, on which firmware and which oeminfo your device is currently.
Then it's time to flash exactly this firmware with the correct method → for this step, wait for instructions from us.
Only when the device works again, it is possible to downgrade with the correct method and return to the original model, or whatever.
As long as the device is in a "brick", nothing works, since the "brick" must first be resolved.
If it is a "semi brick", a "hard brick" can happen as well, after that the device will be dead and without any function → It teaches you to be careful with flashing and get all the information before you flash anything.
We've also had other issues caused by users doing wrong actions - not knowing what they're actually doing. But both cases were solved successfully - which was not easy:https://forum.xda-developers.com/p9/help/huawei-p9-potentally-bricked-t3841197/
Hey guys,
I've attached a screenshot below which contains all the commands and what I got from them below.
Note about the get-build-number, that was the most recent firmware I tried to flash out of literally 10 other firmwares I tried.
I appreciate everything you guys are trying to do to help me fix this problem. I'm currently trying to survive with a Galaxy S3 Mini, and it's not going well in the slightest.
Cheers.
EDIT: Just as a note, which may be obvious from the screenshots to you or not, the partitions are like Nougat, meaning I do not flash the recovery to ramdisk.

Procedure for rebranding from c900b182 to c432 is here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=72153575&postcount=2
Once on c432b182 you should receive OTAs to get back to Nougat.
However, procedure requires flashing OEMIFO, which most likely will be forbidden to you because your FRP is locked and you cannot boot to Systen to unlock OEM.
Which means serious brick
In that case you can try with DC Unlock (sorry, I don't know a better method), it will cost you 15 EUR (probably) and you must ask them for on-line help if needed

Try but you most likely you will need second link
Here was another user who also had to use DC Unlocker, take a look into the thread (posts #6-#11), in the last post he described how it was resolved for him by DC Unlocker

I was not writing you about getting the code but to use DC Unlocker to unlock FRP ( carefully read the story, posts #6 till #11, I gave you in the previous post)
Because their tool can unlock both FRP and Bootloader, but it costs more than just getting the Bootloader code
Personally I didn't use their tool (never bricked the phone or so to need it), and cannot help you about the tool further
