No news. Though it is being speculated that camera improvement update may come out with some bug fixing (if any), there is no confirmed news yet. Guess we just have to wait for it for as long as they aren't out.

Kernel source has now been released

Those are old , with lot of bugs and issues.

Yeah, they turned up the day after I got my phone. But I'd checked for updates a few times and received other updates. Wonder why they turned up late.

OTA update
There are two OTA updates for Moto G5s Plus released by the Google but Motorola has not shared with its customers. The pain is that Moto does not share frequent security patches updates. They have to start stepping forward to this. They need to be customer minded now or they will loose customers slowly away. I am one of them.

Even my Moto G4+ got the September patch yesterday. There is none so far for this one. Loving the phone nonetheless.
However Motorola does need to commit to regular software and patch updates.

What do you mean that Google has released updates for the g5s plus? Released to who? How are google providing g5s plus releases anyway? It's a lenovo product.

Google only releases the updates for its own devices(Pixel and Nexus). All other manufacturers develop the ROMs and their updates for their devices on their own and Google just certifies them after which they can be released via OTA.

Moto X 2013 official lollipop ota update

Apparently lollipop is starting to roll out this week for the first generation Moto X. Has anybody received this update yet?
You might want to try reading the other 3 threads about this instead of creating yet another one.

All the other searches that I found about lollipop for the Moto X are roms. I didn't find any about official over the air update. You could have maybe sent me a link at least
In the news, the most recent 5.1 OTA update was for the Moto G Google Play Edition. I also an article that said they were rolling out 5.1 for the moto X, but it was misleading; it came from Realty Today, so I find it understandable if they are not in the forefront of android news.

Get a nexus then. I'd much rather Motorola wait until lollipop is stable than have what apple did which was roll out horrible buggy 8.0, 8.1, 8.2 releases.

Does Moto x will get offical android 6.0

I want to know whether moto x 2013 will get offical android 6.0 update or not bcause most of the websites doesnt include moto x 1st gen in the list of devices expected to get android 6.0
I think many would tell you it barely got 5.0 and likely won't get 5.1
VZW still on 4.4.4.
So basically very little chance.
Most likely the only official way to get 6.0 would be through Cyanogen. It's gotten old and carriers are already showing signs of cutting out support. But hey I see no reason why the hardware can't support it.

Cyanogen isn't official...
In other news, I highly doubt Motorola/Lenovo will go to 6.0. They had to do all the hardware programming to make Lollipop work, and with the phone now 2 generations behind the latest, they probably won't devote any further resources to it unless there is another highly critical security update needed.

Maybe it is official in the eyes of the CM team since there is a maintainer, but it is not an official update. Call up any carrier and tell them you have official CyanogenMod install on your phone and see what they tell you.

Yes obviously it isn't the official update from Moto, I was only referring it to be official with regards to CM users which in my case is good enough regardless of whether Moto releases their own updates.

Battery drain issue fix
Will they provide any update to fix the battery drain bug occured after the offical android 5.1 ???????????
Actually there is quite a big chance that this phone will get 6.0 at some point, may come very fast or xtra slow as it happened with lp, but since MM is essentially the same crap as LP, it probably won't take them that long.
It's too early to tell, but I don't think the Moto X will have a chance

Android Oreo is coming soon. (Proof)

Today I received an update for the Motorola Notification app in the play store. Here's the Changelog - Added support for Android 8.0
So the Motorola Notification App for the Moto G5s Plus has got support for android Oreo so this implies that the Android Oreo update is around the corner.
Fingers Crossed.
Also could anyone please tell me how to upload a photo in a thread like this from device's gallery.
Because I want to upload screenshot in these types of threads.
Hello,
I suppose you're right.
If you use Google Drive then you can share the image link.
I updated it too.

Here is my thought -
The Moto G5s Plus and the Moto X4 has the same camera app installed(play store) but they differ in features. Like initially the X4 had a spot color feature but the G5s Plus was not having it but they both had the same camera app installed.
So I think Motorola releases different versions of their apps for different phones.
Same applies to the notification app.

Thats doesnt means that Moto G5S Plus is getting Oreo update for your device.. its Moto's App.. and it will be common for all moto phones.
Is is still "coming soon"? lol! It was "this fall" [sic] ...uh...was it really six months ago? yep - six months to the day next wednesday (https://blog.motorola.com/2017/09/14/say-hello-android-oreo/) OnePlus5 users got theirs in january. Perhaps they meant "fall" 2018? Perhaps they've just given up.

While I am skeptical of companies following through with updates, I do believe this phone will get Oreo. However, remember when the Moto X Style/Play was to get Nougat? It took 2 years...They eventually got it, but way way late.
Well after this news https://www.xda-developers.com/motorola-lays-off-half-chicago-workforce/#disqus_thread
I'm not hoping for much of an update anytime soon. Not saying this will affect the update, but it doesn't look promising

Android 8.1 release notes removed.

Hi Guys!
Recently Motorola released release notes for Android 8.1 for Moto G5s Plus.
But unfortunately Motorola has removed that release note from their website. And I don't know why.
Looks like Motorola had accidently released those notes.
Here's that release note webpage.

It's possible this is a cheap chinese company doing what cheap chinese companies do - cut corners at every turn to make a profit from something somebody else designed; in this case motorola branded phones running android. We knew the upgrade process was an afterthought for them, and now we know they can't handle PR/marketing related functions properly either. They're probably oblivious to the fact that people are disappointed. "What's the problem? We get a request for information about oreo and we point you at the now nine month old web page which says "yes, you'll get oreo" - what more do you want?".
Yes, look this now.

It's a security patch update notice. As it says.

By the looks of it. We might have to wait longer for Android Oreo to be released for our precious Moto G5S plus. It is unfortunate because I really love Motorola's phones. They have been lacking it when it comes down to the new Android operating systems.
Take a look at this chat, they're not even giving proper responses.

New July Security Patch out

New update comes out today OTA (reteu). It's 8.0.0 with 07/2018 patch. Nothing else.
Damn.. I was expecting it to be Android 8.1 + June/July security patch just like Moto X4 ( non Android One version ) received few days ago. But well.. better than nothing.

Yes, that's funny for a 799€ business phone. But maybe we get android P first before all other moto phones it get.

This is Lenovo (Moto) , it updates Mid range phones more than Flagships. if i see Android P coming to Moto G5/S/S+ or even Moto Z2 play is ahead in terms of updates (like it was already running June/July patch) its not a new thing for me

No no, Z serie get always 2 major releases. I think that's because we directly get android P (maybe first after Z3?) And an another reason is how many devices could sold in a time. Z2 Force maybe not so good as the cheap ones
Don't know the plans, but maybe Z2 Play get Android 8.1 as last update and the better Z2 Force Android 9.0, because it's the most expencive device. We will see

Hope so..but i am using moto since 2013 and always moto have done same thing eg. Only 1 major upgrade to G2,G3 but 2 major upgrade for Moto G4+ (Oreo for 2016 phone!);. Moto X Force (35K INR)got update till Android 7.0 , no VoLTE enabled but Moto X Play (17K INR) got Android 7.1.1 + VoLTE
The think is about their 2 major OS relases. Lets take our eg.(India) Moto Z2 Force was released in Feb2018 with Android O while it's been a available from 2017 with Android 7.1.
Now i cant understand will moto update this to P or Q .
Sent from my Moto Z2 Force using XDA Labs
Z2 Force will definitely get P. It would be a HUGE mistake and disrespect for the "high end consumers" if Lenovo don't update it.
Probably we're going to skip 8.1 and go straight to 9.0.
That way they keep their promise of 2 Android's version update.
But I doubt that we will get Android Q.

The Moto Software Experience is far better in cheaper phones like G5S+ , Z/Z2 play and all:angel: eben they have got updated system apps with new icons like Dialer , Contacts , File manager etc.. and we still have the same ones from 2017

So a good phone like this with better specs. But gets nothing new or exciting. But the lower end phones gets all the glory.. I think Moto is backwards in that aspect.. Were as other like Samsung, LG, HTC will give better upgrades to higher end phones, then they will the lower to mid range ones.. I would also like to see more rom options for this phone. But hey it is what it is.. This is why I have only rooted, and debloated my phone.. Nothing to see here LOL.

This phone isn't so expensive anymore. Costs at the moment around 280€, so it's cheaper than Moto G6 Plus. Maybe that's why we get no android 8.1 or anything new. But android P we will get for sure. Or we can see it so, that we have a most stable phone. And new features maybe just for phones with good sales figures. Z2 Force is maybe not a box-office hit
And yes, I have paid more for this phone, too. But that's not the point, right?

I'm rooted and running magisk manager on my Z2 Force (December 2017 security patch), does anyone know the steps I have to take to accept an OTA update?
It's currently unsuccessful when I try and I assume it's because I'm rooted, so I uninstalled magisk manager but it still won't successfully update. What am I missing? Thanks in advance for anyone's response!

You need to go back to stock. There is a thread for it. I'm not at my computer now so I can't link to it but look and you'll find it very easy to find. Then you will have to reboot again. You do not need to relock the bootloader

It Dosent depend on the current value , after months the Moto G6plus will be more cheaper than this. Also the Box price of this is much higher than Moto G6Plus and considering its a high end phone.
In India its still at ₹34999 and Moto Z (2016) at ₹29990.
Moto only considers the sale of the phone not the price segment.
