Tips & Tricks , FAQ , Fun Stuffs
How You can Mix & Match Your Own C o f f e e
1. download & install apkeditor from playstore
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gmail.heagoo.apkeditor&hl=en
2. download latest Coffee.apk from OP / post 1, and other additional apk from menu
3. rename additional apk => example: qs_clear_25.apk become overlay.coffee.qs.apk
* add "overlay.coffee." in front
* remove file name from first underscore ( _ ) onward, you just need the first word
4. open apk editor, select Coffee.apk, and choose menu 2 ( Simple Edit (FILE REPLACEMENT))
5. open assets , scroll down to bottom and find overlays you want to change (example: overlay.coffee.qs.apk)
tap the pencil icon beside it, and choose the apk you've downloaded & renamed with same name.
6. click Save ! and your own Coffee is served as new apk
7. open Theme store, delete existing Coffee theme if any, and install new customized Coffee.
8. apply Coffee Theme ~ most of the time you won't need to reboot, but if you find theme layout or color to be incorrect, you'll need to reboot AND re-apply Coffee theme.

im not worried about security however it is suspicious activity in my opinion, its just an inconvenience having to remember the overlays you've installed when they don't even appear in the app list, also having to carry around a copy of the theme incase i want to change anything (which will uninstall all of them at the same time)
i do not mean to sound ungreatful... great work you have done however everyone has different tastes i'd like to customise parts of your theme with my own personal one... i will ask again is there anyway to change it so they appear in the app list if installed seperately?
~Thank you

Known issues:
Just in case you have Weather FC`s after applying the theme, just do the following:
Uncheck sound effects in weather app settings
In case the FC comes already after opening the weather app (which is rare) and you can`t access settings in weather app, just do the following:
Go to applications, select manage, select all
Look for weather provider and delete data
IMPORTANT: kill your network connection (airplane mode)
Open weather, this will now not be able to update as connection is off
Apply settings, disable sound
Restore network connection

Awesome!! Thanks!
Now it is perfect!
Thanks for bringing this great theme to XDA!
It's just that i looked at the zip directory of your Splashscreen and its an splash1.img file inside, shouldnt it be a .bmp file for Android Splash Flasher?
Yours sincerely!
You are right, I was one step ahead... you can flash the splash img by:
Copy the image in your tools folder of SDK
Boot into bootloader, connecting your DHD
Open cmd and navigate to tools folder
type: fastboot flash splash1 splash1.img
Then reboot with: fastboot reboot
I uploaded the bmp now.
Nice theme he_stheone64...

Thanks.

sort of new to this stuff, im having a hard time figuring out how to apply icons, and there is no update.zip on my sd card , can anyone break it down for me please?

That might be changed going forward, that theme is still in it`s infancy, even if it`s a kid of my Milestone Summer Blues, but Sense is so different, that it will still be a long journey. It is like a new flat, it`s never ready.

That might be an addon later, but not as standard, since this is too dark for some people. But having choices is always a good idea.

How can i customize the shortcut key from the home screen? The one beside the "phone" button. The default is the htc browser but i want to change it.
nice one really like the theme what i don't like is the HTC lockscreen though i prefer the android one, so i simply removed the htclockscreen.apk from the theme before i flashed and voila perfect...
Thought i would mention incase anyone else wants to do the same no issue's so far

I will launch a Rosie version as addon later, where you can change that shortcut to your liking incl. a popup to 9 shortcuts. It is basically like my Rosie on steroids, only with standard non transparent drawer and 4 icons (ROS has transparency and 5 columns).

Dinik, of course. sonnysekhon for answering a ton of questions on CWM theming. theimpaler747 for again answering questions and helping out a bunch with getting my feet wet. Kameirus for testing. the devs behind apktool and apkmanager - really made life easier! A ton of artists for their icons; I wish I had kept a list of all the people's work I use, but I didn't but thanks!
A very large thank you to david1171 for heading all of my questions; truly nice and willing to help out!
I hope you enjoy this theme as much as I do. If you are using it, hit the thanks (or buy me a cup of coffee) and feel free to rate the thread. Please ask permission before using my work elsewhere. And thanks for stopping by! Cheers. -jsm

v3 of Lockscreen includes the following:
- Fully skinned lockscreen with alarm clock and charging icons added
- 6 different options - round, square small (72) and large (96). then you can choose whether to have the sms or email icon (which corresponds to the messaging icon)
Can you include XXXXX app in the theme?
As stated in post 1, most likely yes. Simply tell me the app name (ideally, the package name from the AndroidManifest from the decompiled apk.) And better, tell me where to download it or upload the apk.
Can all apps be included in Anastasdroid?
Most, but not all. If the package name includes a capital letter I cannot compile the theme apk. Example, amazons app's package name is: com_amazon_mShop_android. The "S" disallows me to compile the Anastasdroid.apk. Am working on a work-around now, but will see!
Does Anastasdroid change my wallpaper or system colors?
No. It only replaces icons.
Does Anastasdroid install all the programs?
No. It only edits the images.
Can I change themes without losing Anastasdroid?
Yes, using Theme Chooser, you can switch all sorts of themes without losing anything.
My USB debugging icon doesn't change in the pull-down menu. Why?
Yep. Known error with this theme engine; don't know how to fix it right now.
Can I make my own theme?
Sure. Start reading this thread.
Can I buy you a cup of coffee?
Of course. Donate button in my sig...appreciated, but, of course, never expected.

Transparent StatusBar for CM7
======================================Note: This is a reposting of ZduneX25's work found HERE and from his MIUI thread HERE.
All credit goes to him and the other developers.
Please take a second to thank him!
ZduneX25 has a quick and easy app on his website to do all the below. I couldn't get it to work (all my fault) so I did each step by hand. This is what I did (Zdune's instructions with a little extra by me!) It worked for me, but as with everything no guarantees for anyone else!
======================================
Transparent StatusBar for CM7 Repository
======================================DO A NANDBACKUP BEFORE DOING ANYTHING!!!!
These are CWM flashable zips that have been tested and work for their specific rom. They only work for there intended rom and device; they will not likely work across devices/roms. By flashing this you are having fun, and know that you may have to restore things if something goes wrong (or flash the undo file.)
1- HD2 - TyphooN Rom
TyphooN 3.5.6
TyphooN 3.5.6 UNDO
======================================
Before We Begin
======================================DO A NANDBACKUP BEFORE DOING ANYTHING!!!!
1- My launcher (ADW Launcher - standard in CM7) did not work with this transparency modification. I needed to use MultiPicture Live Wallpaper found DOWNLOAD HERE.
2- Install APKTool - http://code.google.com/p/android-apktool/
If you are having troubles with installing APKTool read the following thread: http://www.miui-au.com/add-ons/apktool/
3- Download and have ready APKManager: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695701
4- Install Notepad++: http://notepad-plus-plus.org/
======================================
STEP 1: Editing SystemUI.apk for Transparency
======================================DO A NANDBACKUP BEFORE DOING ANYTHING!!!! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNRED
1- Download framework-res.apk and systemui.apk from your rom (just pull them out of the zip)
2- Copy to your APKTool folder (/Windows)
3- Open CMD Window (Shift + Right Click) and type:
Code:
apktool if framework-res.apk
then
Code:
apktool d -f SystemUI.apk
4- Open the new SystemUI folder (from this original post) and browse to the folder smali/com/android/systemui/statusbar/ and open the file StatusBarService.smali in Notepad++
5- Search for:
Code:
invoke-direct/range {v0 .. v5}, Landroid/view/WindowManager$LayoutParams;-><init>(IIIII)V
directly above it you will find
Code:
const/4 v5, 0x2
replace it with
Code:
const/4 v5, -0x3
6- Now go to /res/layout/status_bar.xml, open it in Notepad++ and search for:
Code:
com.android.systemui.statusbar.DateView
Replace the entire line with:
Code:
<com.android.systemui.statusbar.DateView android:textAppearance="@android:style/TextAppearance.StatusBar.Icon" android:gravity="center|center" android:id="@id/date" android:background="@drawable/statusbar_background2" android:paddingLeft="6.0px" android:paddingRight="6.0px" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:singleLine="true" />
7- Download the follwing zip, extract the "statusbar_background2.9.png" and place in /WINDOWS/SystemUI/res/drawable-hdpi (yes you can edit this; mine is 100% black): DOWNLOAD statusbar_background2.9.png.zip
8- Open CMD window and type:
Code:
apktool b -f SystemUI SystemUInew.apk
9- Find SystemUInew.apk, rename to SystemUI.apk and place in folder "place-apk-here-for-signing" in APKManager
10- Run APKManager and sign (option 16)
11- If you don't want to use APKManager, you can use drag2sign
12- Install to internal memory (/system/app). I did this by making a flashable CWM zip though there are lost of ways to do this (again, this works for me, do as you see fit!)
13- Steps 6 and 7 are optional. In my opinion they make the drop down menu look better (otherwise it is half transparent). From ZduneX25, not my own creation. You can always make it both ways and give it a look.
======================================
STEP 2: Making a CWM Flashable Zip
======================================1- Download, extract the META-INF and system folders to a new location: Download BLANK CMW Flashable zip
2- Place your (new and edited) apk just as it appears in your rom. For SystemUI.apk, place it in /system/app
2a- NOTE: YOU CAN DO THIS TO MAKE A BACKUP TOO!!! Simply use the original (non-edited) SystemUI.apk!
3- Edit META-INF\com\google\android\updater-script in Notepad++ - you can change the ui_print to fit your theme
4- Zip up META-INF and system folder (highlight both folders, right click and add to zip). Transfer to your phone.
5- Enter CWM and flash
======================================
OPTIONAL STEP 1: THE FOLLOWING IS FOR NON-ANASTASDROID USERS - MAKING YOUR THEME TRANSPARENT
======================================The above changes to SystemUI.apk do the set up for transparency. Now you need to make your theme transparent too (this is done in Anastasdroid fo your - so if you install Anastasdroid, you can ignore the following steps.)
The native file is black, so your statusbar background will be black unless you change it!
1- Simply put you need to edit the com_android_systemui_statusbar_background.9.png per regular ways
2- What I did - substituted com_android_systemui_statusbar_background.9.png for com_android_systemui_statusbar_background.png that is 480x38px. (The xml redirecting in your theme is the same for both files as the ".9.png" is ommitted.)
3- My file: com_android_systemui_statusbar.png.zip

Doesn't change the keyboard at all so whatever you have won't be touched. Just changes the launcher icons and sysbar really.
Cheers.

★ The Project ★I have been a fan of Dinik's Anastasia since it hit the Windows Mobile world last year. (See my sig if you don't believe me!) My goal here is simple - bring Anastasia to Android. I made this for me, but thought I would share. (Not familiar with Anastasia? Look here for inspiration!)
★ What Anastasdroid is and what it isn't ★Anastasdroid is a theme built for T-Mobile's Theme Chooser application found in CM7-based roms. It is NOT a rom. My goal is to replace native files using the Theme Chooser with the Anastasia style look. It is a work-in-progress. All icons are constructed by me. In respecting Dinik's decision that none of his icons minus his Anastasia template be used without his permission, I have redone every icon. I have asked Dinik for the okay to use some of his icons, but did not hear back - so until then, you are stuck with my work.
For specifics of what is included in Anastasdroid see the Theme Log in post 2.
★ Screens ★

★ Installation ★NOTE: This is built for hdpi phones (tested only on the HD2); it may not work for non-hdpi phones.
1- Make sure you have Theme Chooser on your phone
2- Download the newest version of Anastasdroid, place on sdcard and install:
Click to download Anastasdroid RC v2
...QR code only works if your phone is logged into XDA...
3- Turn your phone off/ on (reboot)
4- Go to Theme Chooser and scroll to the left (as A is at the beginning of the alphabet )
5- Click Apply under the Anastasdroid theme.
NOTE: There will NOT be a preview image (the apk doesn't compile it correctly on a Windows computer...hope to change that!)
NOTE: Click "Apply Anyways" if you get the following message: "Theme Error: Sorry, this theme is missing assets for your device's screen size." It will NOT hurt anything!!!
★ Update Installation ★1- Download newest Anastasdroid_RC_v#.apk and place on sdcard
Click to download Anastasdroid RC v22- Theme Chooser - select other theme
3- Settings > Applications > Anastasdroid (or sometimes com.jsmccabe78.theme.anastasdroid) -> uninstall
4- File Manager - find above .apk. Install
5- Reboot (turn off/on)
6- Theme Chooser, scroll to left, select Anastasdroid
NOTE: Click "Apply anyways" if you get the following message: "Theme Error: Sorry, this theme is missing assets for your device's screen size." It will NOT hurt anything!!!
★ Uninstallation ★1- Enter Theme Chooser and select another theme
2- Settings > Applications > Anastasdroid > Uninstall
★ Feedback ★...or "Hey, what about my app/ apk? Can you add it?"...
Like it, love it or hate it - please leave a comment (or a screen shot).
If you find something not working or have an app that needs to be added to the theme, please post what you need. (And remember, a screenshot often is a great way to show me what you need.) If you want to add an app to the theme, please tell me the name (ideally, the package name from the AndroidManifest from the decompiled apk) and a screenshot if possible.
★ To Dos ★Many things...
Better icons
More apps
Widgets
More native files (settings, etc.)
★ Thank Yous ★Dinik, of course. sonnysekhon for answering a ton of questions on CWM theming. theimpaler747 for again answering questions and helping out a bunch with getting my feet wet.
★ A Final Word ★You are welcome to use my icons, etc. for whatever you want. However, please respect Dinik's work and ask permission to post them. If you need raw files, pm me. Also, leave a note - of thanks, questions, worries. And remember, this is my first Android theme - I am learning and sharing for fun. Thanks and enjoy!
And remember, hitting the "Thanks" button is quick, painless, free and makes me feel all warm inside.

Make sure that you are running 2.3.4 or above android version
Make sure that you have a custom recovery - preferably CWM 5.2.0.8
It is better to have an SD-EXT partition
Take a Nandroid backup
Download Rom
Copy the rom zip file to SD card
Reboot to recovery
Wipe data/reset
Wipe cache partition
Advanced - Wipe Dalvik cache
Advanced - Wipe battery stats
Install zip from SD card
Choose zip from SD card
Select the rom zip file
Wait till the flashing process is complete
DO NOT WIPE AFTER FLASHING- it will remove Mixplorer(file manager) & Link2sd
Reboot system now
First boot requires comparatively more time, so be patient
Download links
NB:
Incomplete and discontinuous downloads lead to unusual behavior of the ROM.
Make sure that your downloads are in a single stretch and without pause-resume. Check the MD5 sum of your downloaded zip file and verify whether it is same as that of the MD5 sum displayed along with the download link. If they are not, then your download is corrupted or altered from the one I uploaded. Please re-download and verify before flashing the rom.
If you have any questions read the FAQ first

I can’t see any file manager or link2sd ?
You have wiped data after flashing the rom, this removed Mixplorer , Link2sd & Terminal emulator which were placed in the rom as user apps for its updating. Reflash the rom and DO NOT wipe/data reset after flashing
Can I port this rom ?
Ask me and make sure that no one else has ported to your device
I can’t see superuser and no dialogs for granting root permission ?
This rom is using Insecure su binary which is so light and does not need any app for granting root permission. The root permission is granted for all apps which request root permission.
I don’t like the insecure binary thing, How can I change to the default?
You might want to install SuperSU from the market and update the SU-binary. This will completely replace SimpleSU with SuperSU. Which means those want to stay insecure don’t update your su binary.
How to check MD5 sum ?
Open Mixplorer. Long click the file you want to check. Press the 3 dot overflow button at the right bottom corner. select properties. The window will display the MD5 ( give it some seconds to calculate )
There are also utilities that can be used to get MD5. For eg: this Microsoft File Checksum Integrity Verifier .
It is saying that ‘please check your connection’ when I try to send a file using obex Bluetooth in miXplorer ?
Obex Bluetooth is not working probably because of the older android version (2.3.7). it is working fine with higher version, So use the native Bluetooth. I have reported this issue and It will be fixed soon and you can update ( mixplorer is not a system app and you can update it. For better performance don’t move it to sd ext )
How to setup a bluetooth ftp connection in Mixplorer ?
First pair with the device you want to establish a connection. Open Mixplorer. Swipe to the right from the extreme left side. Select ‘new storage’. Select ‘custom network’. Press ‘search local’. Press save. Now your connected device is displayed on left panel ( swipe from left ) . Open it and swipe down to refresh ( or press refresh button). Give it some time, If it shows failed refresh again. Now you can see the files in the connected device.
How to use the odex script ?
Open terminal emulator. Type su. Press enter. Type dexo –h . Press enter. It shows all the possible commands for your phone.
All the system apps are odexed. If you want to make another one odexed system app. Copy the apk file to /system/app.( If there are any .so files in lib/armeabi of that apk file. Copy the .so file to system/lib of your phone ). Goto the root of your sd card. Create a text file with name csa.txt . Open it and type the exact name of the apk file you just copied ( eg: DSPManager.apk ). Save and close the text file. Open terminal emulator. Type su. Press enter. Type dexo –csa. Press enter. Wait for the process to finish. Then reboot.
How to move apps and its components to sd ext ?
The rom has Link2sd app for that purpose. First make sure that you have an sd ext partition ( if not create one- a method of creation is using CWM. Creating sd ext formats your sd card, so do backup before creating sd ext )
Open Link2sd. It will ask which type of ext partition you have. Select your type ( mine is ext4 ). Reboot your phone. Open Link2sd - options - settings - tick auto link - autolink settings - select what all things you want to move. After that all the apps( and its selected components ) you installed will be moved to sd ext automatically. When you install an application open it only after it is linked to ext. Only the plus version of link2sd can move data of an app, unless you link everything including data the internal memory will increase when installing apps.
I don’t like Link2sd , I want to switch to s2e ?
{** When I tried to use s2e it was not successful.I couldn't figure out exactly why it is not working [ actually I felt lazy because link2sd ,int2ext,.etc are working fine]. If you are trying to find out the reason , start with changing the kernel to original Mr.android kernel. If anyone knows the reason ,please share.}
If you don’t want to use link2sd do nothing to it. Install s2e and use it like you normally do. Since you are not using link2sd you can uninstall it using titanium backup or other tools.
Another option is before flashing rom. Open the rom zip file using 7zip. Go to data/app delete Link2sd.apk and add the s2e apk to that folder. Flash the new rom zip
It is hard to switch from link2sd after linking some apps. If you have created the mount script ( selected the ext type and rebooted ) then s2e will not work.
In order to switch to s2e after linking some apps you have to remove all the links that you have created and delete the mount script 11link2sd from /system/etc/init.d. Then reboot and install s2e and use it normally. But this method may not work for sure.
So, If you want to use s2e. Don’t use link2sd, don’t create mount scripts, don't link any apps. Instead use s2e from the very beginning- before moving any apps to ext
I don’t like flyon mod how do I remove it ?
Go to this flyon mod thread Flyon Mod. In the download section you will see a zip named Fly-On_uninstaller.zip. Download it and flash it via CWM . Flyon will be removed
How can I make the apps load faster?
Open spare parts from app drawer. Select ‘off’ for both window animations and transition animations.
You said there is a data speed meter, but I can’t find any ?
The data speed meter will not be displayed until you switch on your data.
Sometimes the data meter shows speed in white color and some other times blue, why is that?
The white shows the upload speed. Blue shows the download speed.
There is no indicator under the power widget buttons ?
They are removed on purpose because the power widget icons will change color when toggled, So power widget indicator is kinda unnecessary.

Very nice theming. I Will try this rom. Hows the perfomance and battery?
Just installed it, but had a problem with it the first few times[but that was because I changed the LCD density, works fine if no modification], is there any way to change lcd density without crashing the launcher? Or can i change the launcher? I really want to change the value to 106, it`s the best value for it

No compromise in performance and battery, because this rom is an attempt to reduce the ugly look of original cm7.2 without any reduction in performance or battery . The rom is snappy and battery is really good see the screen shot

what kind of problem did you face? I had none ( do all wipes as given in op and give time for loading the launcher in the first boot )
For changing LCD density use some 3rd party apps .May be this LCD Density Changer ( I haven't tested that app, but I guess it will do the job ).The value is 120 by default. If 106 seems good I will consider it in the next version. I think 106 will be much smaller. Remember I have changed the fonts. It is not Roboto
for changing the launcher. Install your new launcher and delete com.mobint.hololauncher.211.apk from /system/app/ or uninstall it using titanium backup or root uninstaller.
Another option is to replace /system/app/com.mobint.hololauncher.211.apk with which ever launcher you want before flashing.
Installed this Rom. Very nice look, especially the notification drawer theming. Can u make transparent status bar like kitkat in next update. And font looks a bit unclear for me.

Nice to see a CM7.2 ROM after so much time. It's really a pity how developers are wasting their valuable time on JB ROMS which don't even run smooth on our phone and make it so slow and laggy.
What we should do is perfect GingerBread.
And you have done a big step in that direction,

The problems was because of me [forgot to mention that], the launcher kept crashing because of the lcd density ii change that before the flashing with Notepad++. Replaced Holo with ADW [first one I found, any ideeas for another?]. Did some screenshots with LCD density at 106. The biggest problem I have with it is that Go Backup is crashing... Is there any way to restore data from Go with another app, or do I have to go back to another rom backup and do it with another app?
Can I port it to Galaxy Y?

That is exactly my intention is.
By the way, the developers are doing an awesome job, the problem is unfortunately with our hardware

I stopped using GO 2 years ago, So no idea about restoring that backup, I guess only Go will be compatible with Go.
Have you tried to use the default 120 density ? In my opinion , 106 is much small !! and 120 looks better
Would you mind editing your first reply about launcher ? otherwise people may misunderstand

I will consider it.
Why I choose this font is to give a little different look from Roboto and DroidSans. I have tested with many fonts and finally concluded this. If there comes a better option, I will go for it for sure.

Actually , theming is not complete and it is an intial version. I released it bcoz otherwise it will delay more as result of my exams this week.
Yes, you can port If you want, Give credits and link to original thread. Good luck :good:
Hmm. I am facing some theming problems. I am aware that you can't deal with all theming problems like black text on black background because it depends on the app, but I would appreciate if you also provided the system default theme as an optional theme
Otherwise, very stable ROM.
And yes, the developers ARE doing a great job. They've devised so many ingenious ways to try to deal with the weak hardware like a lot of scripts and kernels. But yes, our hardware simply isn't strong enough. (It is some 4 years old)

HOW TO USE AROMA FM:
Download this flashable zip.
Flash the zip in recovery.
It will copy the flashable Aroma FM package to \TWRP\aromafm.
Go to "settings" and tick the option to use Aroma FM.
Profit.
Complete rework of Holofied Black, Dark and Light (1080 and 1200 only):
NOTE: The size of the XMLs for these themes has quadrupled, thus the themes need longer to load when entering the recovery.
Font size of tab labels reduced
Font color of main buttons changed from white to a light grey - BLACK, DARK
Lighter colors for actionbar and background - LIGHT
Added theme settings:
Added option to choose between nine highlight colors
Added options to independently apply chosen highlight color to statusbar, navbar buttons and actionbar
Added option to switch position of back button in navbar
More info:
One of the problems when making the current themes was to decide which colors to use for the highlighting.
Not everybody likes the classic holo blue or the newer whitish look. I also didn't want to maintain seperate themes to cover all colors of the rainbow.
So from 2.7 on, the Black, Dark and Light theme give you nine highlight colors to choose from - in one skin that is.
Besides white, the colors are a mixture the darker shades of android colors (blue, green, orange, red), the google colors (dark blue, greener green, yellow) and AOKPink:
The theme settings are accessible from the main menu. The selected color will be applied to the basic stuff, like the tabs, file and folder icons, checkboxes and radio buttons.
But for some users, that might not be colorful enough. So you can go ahead, and apply the highlight colors to other parts of the UI as well:
Of course these options also include the actionbar.
In the end, users are able to choose a color - and have as much of it as they like.
Misc settings include an option for centering the clock, switching the position of the navbar buttons around (apply samsung layout) and to use the Aroma File Manager instead of the TWRP file manager.
FAQ
THEME FAQ
What's the difference between the dark and the dark_minimal theme?
The minimal themes only have one highlight color (dark holo blue).
The main advantage of the minimal themes is their reduced boot time compared to the multicolor versions.
They're ment to be used as base for porting or creating other single color versions.
Can I use this theme on my *devicename*?
Most likely yes. The themes can be used on any device with the screen resolution the filename of the theme suggests.
For example, the "1080_*variant*.zip" can be used on any FullHD device.
When I reboot to recovery, the theme isn't applied. Any ideas?
This is most likeley due to wrong naming of the theme folder or the ui.zip.
Make sure the folder is named "theme", without capital letters.
Also check if you accidentally renamed the downloaded zip to "ui.zip.zip" (common pitfall when renaming the zip in windows explorer).
When I reboot to recovery, I get a "recovery bootloop". Is my phone broken?
Nope, this is most likeley due to a bad download.
Please download the theme again using another browser or app. For instance, ES File Explorer's build-in downloader has proven to be unreliable for the dropbox links I provide.
I like what you did there, but can I has more/other colorz?
Colors are a matter of personal preferrence. I try to keep the themes neutral, and the colors used are (mostly) in accordance with android design guidelines.
For other colors, you'll have to modify the theme yourself. I will gladly provide the source file for the images to everyone interested.
Will you make a dark/black Play theme?
No, because I don't want to maintain more versions of the theme. But everybody is welcome to contribute to the thread...
Will you help me to port my favourite other theme to device XY?
No. But this guide provides insight on how you can do it.
RECOVERY REPACK FAQ
What version of TWRP is the repack?
Always the latest available for a certain device.
As I don't keep track of all TWRP threads, please remind me if there was an update for your device.
I'd like a repack for *devicename*, how do I make one?
Download and unpack Android Image Kitchen.
Unpack the zip.
Download the zip containing the custom curtains (splash images).
Get the recovery image you want to modify from the TWRP download site.
Copy the recovery image to the Image Kitchen folder.
In windows explorer, drag & drop the recovery image on the "unpackimg.bat".
Unpacking will create two new folders (ramdisk and split_image).
Rename the splash of your choice to "curtain.jpg" and drop it into /ramdisk/res/images.
Hit "repackimg.bat".
This will create a "image-new.img", which you can then flash away using your preferred method.
My preferred method for installing the recovery is GooManager, so how do I flash this .img thing?
Use the theme. It now supports direct image flashing from the install page.
Via Fastboot. Most useful to know how to (especially in case things go sideways).
Via app. For a variety of devices, Flashify has proven to be a good app for flashing recovery images. It's under (very) active development and I highly recommend to give it a try.
Alternative apps (can be device specific): SGS4 Flasher, ... (please help me to populate this part)
AROMA FM
Download this flashable zip.
Flash the zip in recovery.
It will copy the flashable Aroma FM package to \TWRP\aromafm.
Go to "settings" and tick the option to use Aroma FM.
Profit.

I'm having issues trying to get this to work on my Nexus 4. I have 2.7.0.0 TWRP so I downloaded the 768_dark_kk and the theme will not work. I don't think I'm doing anything wrong. The TWRP directory didn't have a themes directory so I made one, copied the theme zip to the directory and renamed it ui then rebooted to recovery and no theme.

Surely a naming issue. The folder name needs to be "theme" - singular.
If you have renamed the zip in windows explorer, please double check if it's accidentally renamed to ui.zip.zip.
Almost everytime one of both is the culprit.

Well found the culprit. Instead of having the folder named theme I had it named themes. Derpy move on my part. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
