Note 8 message on system updates - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions & Answers

My sprint note 8 (and S8+ ) now says under system updates menu " your device is unlocked for use of Any sim " showed up last week. Does anyone now what exactly that means

@Ash0710 I have 2 Note 8s, both on Sprint network, SM-N950U model numbers, unrooted and neither have the "your device is unlocked for use of any sim" showing under systems update menu.

sounds like it means they're SIM unlocked.
mine says the same thing, though i don't have a SIM to test ATM..

One of mine also says the same...
I'll have to check the other one and see if it's the same.
Sprint bought thru Samsung.

Mine also says that.

[Q] Stock Note 3 lose Unlock after Sent back to Repair

Hi to all
I have a Stock AT&T Note 3 on KitKat, And I bought the unlock code from a website and the Code was working fine
I sent my phone to the Samsung repair center in TX to fix the memory card slot problem.
After a week they sent the phone back to me, and Of course the phone is back to the original settings
When I turned on the phone and inserted my T-mobile Sim card, the phone is asking me for the network
unlock code, so I entered the same code that I used before and it is not working ...
Thanks
You probably didn't get the exact phone you sent them. They probably sent a different one. Check for an old receipt, or the original box for the imei code. See if it's different then the new one. It most likely is. If it is, you will need to obtain a new unlock code.
I checked the IMEI number and they matched
I also thought of that it might have to do with the unlock code
so I ordered another Unlock code from a different site
and it turned out to be the SAME Unlock code from the other site !!
Yes there's only 1 unlock code per imei. It doesn't matter where you obtain the code, it will be the same.
I hate to tell you this, but you'll need to contact the warranty dept and probably send the phone back. Again :'(

Do you think this has anything to do with the Region lock restriction ?
No I don't believe it to be related to region lock.
Check one more thing for me please. Verify that the imei of the phone is what you believe it to be. Open settings and in "about phone" check under status and verify the imei is what you think it is. You can also Press * # 0 6 # on your keypad, Press 'Call' or 'Send' as if making a call. Your IMEI number will be retrieved and displayed on your screen.

NOTES: If you have a Samsung Galaxy S3, S4, Note 2, Note 3 or your Android version is Android 4.4 (KITKAT): All SAMSUNG devices manufactured after the date of JULY 2013 and Samsung devices running on Android version is Android 4.4 (KITKAT) are subject to REGION LOCKING. If your phone has been used previously with the original carrier, this will not apply to you. However, if your device is BRAND NEW, your must activate it with the original carrier. If your Samsung device becomes Region locked, you will not be able to fully factory Unlock your Samsung devices so it can be used internationally. Even the correct code will not work anymore. In order for your Samsung device NOT to be region locked, you MUST activate (FIRST USE) your S3, S4, NOTE 2, NOTE 3 with your ORIGINAL carrier at least ONCE to take your region lock OFF. After your Region lock is off, you can Sim Unlock your device via Unlock Code. All Canadian Carriers are NOT subject to Region Locking. All USA and European Carriers ARE subject to Region Locking. Region lock is removed automatically after you activate your device with its original carrier. Make some calls before unlocking. (Insert an active original sim card into the device and make a few calls to activate the phone and bypass the region lock. Once you've activated the phone, you can input the unlock code.)
Well after reading that I'm amazed. I believed region lock was based on where you lived and used the phone. Like a person in Europe couldn't use an at&t phone overseas until it was used in the states. I was unaware a person in the U.S. had to do the same if they were using it in the U.S. but with a different carrier. My apologies.
You wouldn't happen to know anyone on at&t would you? Maybe a Samsung rep in bestbuy can help you with borrowing an at&t sim and making a call or 2 on your phone.

I tried to use someone's ATT sim and it doesnt work
Also Samsung is telling me that "as you have unlocked the device from third party site , and this is not considered as official unlock for the device"
I might bring the phone to bestbuy and let them check it out.. since the phone is still under Warranty
There's defiantly something wrong if an at&t sim doesn't work. Are you the original owner? If not do you know the original purchaser? It could have been blacklisted.

The phone is working Fine with an ATT sim card, it has signals
it is just that it is not working after I inserted my tmobile sim card
and entered in the unlock code... So the imei should be fine !
I believe you need approximately 5 to 15 minutes of use on an at&t sim card from my previous readings of other user experiences.

N950U1 FW Update N950U1UEU5CRG6 - Own Number unknown

Monday I updated the FW of my US unlocked Note 8 (N950U1 / SD-version) with N950U1UEU5CRG6.
After the update I noticed that in Settings - About Phone, My Phone Number is listed as UNKNOWN. I am using the phone in The Netherlands with provider Hollandsnieuwe (=Vodafone). I am certain that the actual phone number was correctly displayed prior to the FW update.
Not sure if related, but Find My Phone/Device does no longer work via Samsung or Google. Is does work through Bitdefender Anti Theft...
Anyone has this or other issue after the update? Thoughts?

Hi, on my 2 Note8 dual sim, it is said : phone number⇒ unknown. And this from the beginning (on every firmwares). I'm in france using two french sim cards in the phone and i bought my phones on samsung shop. Until now, no problem, everything works great.
My branded, but unlocked 950F, as I paid for it the full price to use it as a prepaid phone displays the same, unknown number, since day one, I bought it directly from the major carrier in Mexico which is Telcel, everything works fine, all services and VoLTE
You mean like this seeing on my screenshot? This number is only visible if it's saved into your SIM card. Since a while, the carriers/operators don't write longer the numbers into the SIM card
So if you don't see it now, you never saw it before!
But there was an xposed module (if I remember right on android 4.4.2) where you can change this (showing) number.
(It don't changed your registered phone number!)
At that time I had found that thread
https://r.tapatalk.com/shareLink?ur...share_tid=2106490&share_fid=3793&share_type=t
That should be the correct GitHub link:
https://github.com/OXINARF/SIMNumberChanger
But it looks like there is a newer xposed module called SIMEditor - maybe that still works (when your device is rooted and xpised installed)
http://repo.xposed.info/module/com.gnufabio.simeditor
Greetings
Spoiler
Sorry for German language. The first line: Eigene Telefonnummer means "own phone number"
Don't be afraid to hit the "Thanks" button if someone helped you. It don't hurts
I've never had my phone number displayed in the information menu. As far back as the Note 3, no matter what firmware, official or custom, or even other phones. I live in South Africa. After reading @Logel's explanation, it now makes sense to me why it never showed to me, because of the way South African carriers assign numbers to customers.

Unlocked Sprint Note 9 Odin Flash issues

so i have googled and searched and googled some more and i cant seem to figure out how to make this work
I have
Sprint Note 9 that has been unlocked and works on other carrier(its on cricket as of right now)
SM-N960U
Software: N960USQS4DTD5
Service Provider: SPR/XAA/XAA
Android 10
so the issues is now that it is unlocked i keep getting pop up from sprint saying my profile cant be updated and so forth so i have been trying to flash it to ethier the unlocked firmware or even ATT firmware since cricket uses that towers figured that would be better then sprints but everytime i just fails right from the start or it sits for 2-3 and then fails (image attached) i have installed all drivers and im using the patched version of odin.
at this point i am out of ideas on what could be going on with it
Thanks

I ca't see your attachment. Maybe others too.
I even reuploaded the jpg from a png and it still wont show up it really does not show much just that it read a couple files and then failed.
OMDAM can you explain abit more I have not nodding phones in a couple years or really even done any major adjusting of them if someone could point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it
Last thing I have a question about from. What I have read the note 9 is the same phone across all carriers just different software to block and allow different bands is this correct. If so would it not be smarter to installed a unlocked or att files since cricket is att

I think by OMADM he's probably referring to an app, most likely a system app, that is responsible for this popup you are getting. I checked my Note 9 and I don't have this app as it is running on T-Mobile. It probably is a Sprint system app that gets installed with Sprint version of Android firmware.
You are correct that all Note 9 are same hardware and if unlocked, based on which carrier sim you insert in the phone, it will automatically switch system software to relevant carrier. I could be wrong but I suspect that your Note 9 was remotely unlocked by unofficial methods or else, once you had inserted cricket sim card in it, it would have automatically switched the Android to AT&T version and you would not be getting this pop up. Best way to verify that your Note 9 was unofficially unlocked or not is by either inserting Sprint sim card in it, the phone will not work with Sprint if it is unofficially unlocked or by checking the phone IMEI on Sprint BYOD portal. If you check IMEI and phone shows attached to an account or has balance, it will mean that the previous owner of the phone unofficially unlocked the phone without paying off the phone and sold it to you as an unlocked phone.
I have owned 4-5 Note 9 phones in last couple of years and I use both AT&T and T-Mobile MVNOS and whenever I switched sims, the Android software version automatically changes after reboot to match the sim carrier. I have old Verizon and Sprint sim cards lying around for testing purposes and I have checked those too with same results.
---------- Post added at 04:08 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:52 PM ----------
One other way you can know for sure is if you have a non-Sprint sim card lying around such as from T-Mobile or Verizon or even AT&T or their respective MVNOS (not Cricket obviously), insert that sim and reboot the phone and see if the carrier software changes away from Sprint and hopefully you will not get this popup anymore.

What version of the bootloader are you on?
What is the number of the firmware you are flashing?
Are you using the original cable that came with the phone?

Question Verizon S21 Ultra Locked and not unlocking

I appear to be in one of those samsung lock horror stories. I purchased a paid off verizon s21 ultra that was suppose to be unlocked but after i put my tmobile sim into it works for 5 minutes perfectly then an error pops up saying unable to change carrier call verizon customer support. So i did long story short i got no where. So i filed an FCC complaint and got in contact with a verizon executive and he got in contact with who i bought the phone from and they provided all the paperwork proving it was paid off and he reprocessed the unlock request and said it will now for sure be unlocked and it didnt unlock so i contacted samsung like he said for me to do if it didnt so i did and they told me to wait 48 hours for it to process. 48 hours later guess what its still not unlocked so i call samsung back and they said verizon still hasnt released it supposedly and there is nothing they can do and i need to go back to verizon. Im stuck in an endless loop of verizon executives telling me to call samsung and samsung telling me to call verizon.
What is there left for me to do now? This is stupid why is it not unlocking... The only thing that i can think is left is that the phone is flashed with stock firmware and not verizon firmware to remove the bloatware. But that seems like it shouldnt matter. Also the phone never asks for an unlock code it just says call verizon customer service.
It's more a Verizon lock horror, not Samsung.
Flashing other FW won't solve your issue.

First, did you verify that the unit is paid off?
Second, do you know anyone that has verizon?
Don't know if it will work, but I would try flashing the unit back to stock Verizon firmware and finding someone who has a verizon sim card.
Verizon units kind of unlock on their own. It is troubleshooting I would try because I do not believe the unit will unlock on U1 software on its own. Once it can get unlocked then flash back.
I suggest someone who has a verizon active SIM as it may help in it unlocking even though you can connect through WIFI

The verizon executative said it was guaranteed paid off and he unlocked it remotely again. But it does have u1 firmware on it im guessing i need to use frija and download the vzw firmware? And will another unlock request need to be processed again? And none of my friends have verizon due to how much of a ripoff they are lmao but i can have another verizon demo sim put in at another verizon store. I feel like i would have to file anpther fcc complaint just to talk to another verizon executive.

I believe for it to be unlocked or at least go through the process, the verizon U package is what I would flash, but you may be in a little bit of a issue if you don't have a verizon SIM on hand, even if not activated.
There are multiple ways to get it to flash back to U. I would use a patched ODIN and just flash the appropriate files from somewhere like samfw.com
If he sent out the remote unlock, it is very possible that once you flash back to U verizon package and connect to WIFI and go through the setup process etc. It may just unlock on its own. If you do not have a Verizon SIM card, leave your SIM out of the phone while going through the initial setup. You will need WIFI.
I would start with a clean flash just to be safe.

You literally quoted the answer
Verizon firmware has an app called "Network Unlock". Perhaps at the 60 day mark, the phone automatically unlocks. However, if on the unlocked U1 firmware, there is no framework to remove the lock. It'd be interesting to see exactly how the Verizon unlock process works.

It is somehow tied into their U package software and I am assuming unlocks it at the modem level in background processes. It's like the "signal" they send out can only be detected on their U package. I've seen it many times where Verizon phones automatically unlock themselves when restored to original package from U1.

I can confirm this works on my s21+ that was on verizon network, and was supposedly networked unlocked. Service carrier software said vzw/vzw, vzw/vzw. Tried to switch to tmobile with no luck with sim card swap. 5 minutes, error message about cannot which carriers, please call Verizon. Was on SM-996U1. So I tried to flash to SM-996U1 TMB, then SM-996U1 VZW, then, SM-996U1 XAA. No luck. Then I flashed, hesitantly, with SM-996U VZW . I thought that would put all verizons bloatware on it. Reseted phone and it did put all verizon bloatware on it. Then the magic! I installed my new tmobile sim, and a message appeared and asked if I wished to switch carriers. YES!!! phone rebooted to tmobiles network with no verizon errors. I checked service carrier software and it was TMB/TMB, VZW/VZW. I flashed phone again to SM-996U1 XAA. I rebooted and service carrier software was TMB/TMB, TMB/VZW! I then checked for software update, took update, and all it good! Thanks for all the information here. Took me days to find it and understand it and try it!!

Are you using this phone with Verizon service? From info you provided, your phone thinks you are using Sprint. It's a SPR CSC. You need to change the CSC to VZW. You need to bring the phone back to it's original state for any attempt of the unlock "processing".

HELP! how do I "completely" remove Verizon so I can use with T-Mobile

MODEL SM-G977U
So here is what I have going on, I have 2 s10 5G's with a Verizon model #, I bought these in the Facebook Marketplace from a reputable reseller last September, I now just realized the ad said "works with Verizon only". I added them to my Verizon account, and now a year later I decided to move to T-Mobile. At the store T-Mobile put a sim card in the phone to see if they were unlocked and the phone showed signal bars, and the T-Mobile apn, but when the rep activated the sim cards the bars disappeared and showed an x, and a white banner popped up on the bottom of the screen (see screenshot).
Got with Verizon Tier2 tech support today with 2 different reps, both of which were with Verizon for over 10yrs, everyone at Verizon has confirmed the device is unlocked,, clean IMEI, no flags, nada, the 1st rep said the only option was that I factory reset with the T-Mobile sin card in the phone, when the phone rebooted it would boot T-Mobile, (pita, had to use smart switch on pc to backup everything), well that didn't work, it booted Verizon, and still the same message.
The 2nd rep on a 2hr call checked and re-checked everything, said also there are no locks on the devices, nothing that they can do as they are not hijacking the phone.
So I have 2 devices that I cannot use.
I haven't rooted a phone since like 2014 lol, but I recall you can boot into the bootloader or something, I remember something about NAND, so I am wondering, is there a way to complete erase anything related to Verizon, and just leave the phone without any carrier info or files, and load T-Mobile?
Please help, I really would like t use these devices, I am not in a position to get into another device right now.
Thanks in advance!
