How do I load Google and their Apps on my Xioami Mix in Perth Australia? - Xiaomi Mi MIX Questions & Answers

How do I load Google and their Apps on my Xioami Mix in Perth Australia
I recently bought a Xiaomi Mix (Black ceramic/Gold edition) on a trip to China, I ordered and received it from the official Mi website to the private address in China where I was staying.
Thus I guess it is a China ROM version.
It already has the latest MIUI 9 upgrade on it
I live in Perth Australia and my phone provider is Vodafone.
2G band- 900Mhz
3G band - 900MHz (B8)
4G/LTE bands - 2100Mhz (B1), 1800Mhz (B3), 850Mhz (B5)
From what I have been told is that the above will work on the Mix.
My problem is that I have not been able to successfully load Google etc on the phone from a source other than the Baidu App.
Then once that was done Google Apps would not work or start in most cases.
I have all my contacts, docs and photos etc synchronised to my Google account for ease when I travel.
Does anyone have a solution for loading Google and making the phone work?
Thanks

Perhaps you should install the global version. Yet, you can try this google installer apk inside the zip which supposed to be installing google framework and apps automatically(I was using it on another Chinese device). Here is the link to download: https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=961840155545586390

You did give all the permissions for the Google apps?

Thanks! How do I load Google and their Apps on my Xioami Mix in Perth Australia?
Hey guys, Thanks for your help.
I think is was the permissions, I hadn't given 1 or 2 that made a difference.
My only problem now is that the Google Contacts is showing 2 accounts and I only have 1 account.
The worst part is the one that the empty one opens by default, and I have to switch every time.
In the worst case scenario I could live with it.
One says "All Contacts" with 1192 contacts in it.
The other says just "Contacts" with 0 contacts in it.
Is there a way to delete the second empty account?
I can't seem to find a solution on Google anywhere.

Think if you press the 3dots at top when in the 1 you want to remove it says remove this account.

I can't find a way to delete it.

I think its better to unlock your bootloader and then flash lock global rom using fastboot method

I have a EVA-AL00 arriving tomorrow...what do I need to know?

Ok, so I bought a P9 ( EVA-AL00 ) since I've always been a fan of Leica products, and I'm a hobbyist photographer. First off, I currently use an iPhone 5s for the last 2 months, and before that was using a OnePlus One, and before that an iPhone 5c and Blackberry Passport, so I've had a variety ogf phones over the last 2 years. I'm not into hacking, or unlocking or locking bootloaders and that type of thing, which is why I generally like Apple products, as they just seem to work out of the box. I'm leaving my 5s because the screen is too small, and I like what the P9 offers for the money, at a cheaper price point than an iPhone 6s. And the Leica optics.
So, having said that, what do I need to know once I get the phone tomorrow? Any critical or important tips or tricks? Again, I'm not into anything complicated when it comes to phones like rooting, etc... I'm in Canada and my Carrier is Bell. My ANdroid experience has been with the OnePlus One I used for a while, and I was generally pleased with it.
Thanks
Ok, so phone arrived. I made a mistake. It's a EVA-DL00.
It's running EVA-DL00C17B163, and I'm currently updating to 168. This is a CHinese version of the phone, from my understanding. I'm using it in English, but some things are still in Chinese. Is there any way to to flash with other software to make it all English?

Welcome to the club
I recently bought the EVA-L10 (Chinese Dual-Sim, "premium" version, 4G/64G) while in Shanghai, and I have the same "problem" as you.
Basically since Google is not available in China, the phones sold in China don't come with Google Android framework, they use a "non-google Android", based of the official Android.
So, to your question, will it be possible to flash another firmware over your phones firmware? I say Yes, however at the same time I'm lying, because I'm also looking for this firmware for my phone, but if someone posts a EVA-L29 Firmware somewhere on the Interweb, I'm most certain this firmware will work on my phone and should also work on yours (might require bootloader unlock and root, but so what..).
But the phone is, chinese apps or not, awesome
/S
You can install Google stuff. Just download the Google Play store from the Huawei store, and then have at 'er installing all the normal Google Play apps that you want. That's what I'm currently doing. I just want to get rid of all the Chinese stuff on the phone. ALso, switch the keyboard to the regular Android one in the settings.

Hi!
Of course, but there are still some applications that are "System Applications" that you cant get rid of, like HiCare, HiApp, .. etc. and if you are in a country using special characters like ü or åäö, these are not rendered correct in the Mail app (shows up as chinese chars).

Have you checked out the contacts yet, .. did you manage to sync contacts from your Google account? Because my contacts from google dont show up in the Huawei built in "Contacts" App (which is also used by the dialer). Only contacts from Skype, LinkedIn, WeChat etc. are shown.

Hi,
I also bought a P9 ( EVA-AL00 ) last June, and currently i'm having an issue.
Usually i don't have games on my phone, or almost none, but some days ago, i wanted to install Heartstone on my P9. When downloading , at about 85%, sometimes 9x% (once it reached 100%) suddently it pops out from Google Play, and don't install the game. I tried also with other games and it happens the same. It doesn't happens with every game, i tested sucessfully with Stack and Sokoban
I have plenty of free space on phone and several applications installed (no Google Play issue, i think).
After i received the phone, i download the Google services/play store APK without issues. I deactivated the chinese bloatware, with no issues. Once Google Play installed, i downloaded all other Google Apps i use and others without issues...well there is an issue i had with RT app. It installed ok, but sometimes when i want to open it, i have to try several times to open it... I click on icon but closes.
Have someone here with EVA-AL00 having this issue also?
Thanks!

I just bought the non-carrier specific 3G / 32G Chinese version (EVA AL00) P9 when I was in Guangzhou last week and had to do the following after coming back home to get it to work with google and sync with two google accounts.
1. Install Google Play Store from HiApp and sign in with first google account.
2. Make sure to give Google Play Store permission to access storage, otherwise large apps won't install.
3. Download apk of Google Contacts Sync from APKMirror
4. Download apk of Google Calendar Sync from APKMirror
5. Use the browser on the phone to download these two apk files and follow the instruction on the phone to install them.
Sorry I'm not allowed to post outside links yet, however google search keywords like Google Contacts Sync APK will turn up the download links.
6. Since the phone still did not allow me to add a second google account in Settings -> Accounts -> Add Account, I had to install Youtube and use the Add Account in Youtube to add a second google account.
After these steps, I was able to sync contacts and calendar events with both google accounts and install apps from Play Store.

Sharing my experience with a Chinese version Mate 20 Pro

So I finally received my Chinese version Mate 20 Pro Emerald variant and I spent the last 24 hours setting it up, now it's finally getting into a more or less stock android feeling. I decided to write a post because man, I've never spent so much effort just trying to setup a new phone.
Ordering
I ordered the phone from Huawei T Mall store on Nov. 11th. I paid about 1250 CAD through Alipay for the phone and ~ 600 RMB having my friend sending it to me via DHL. I also had to pay some import tax getting it into Canada but it's just bad luck, plus the tax really depends on how much you declare the value to be.
First Impression
I had a Oneplus 5, I like the cleanness of its ROM, it's close to stock android and I was using the Rootless Pixel 2 Launcher which makes it essentially a stock Android device. The Mate 20 Pro is a bit heavier than the Oneplus 5 and it's just slightly bigger.
I started with applying the tempered glass screen protectors I bought also from Taobao when I ordered the phone. Sadly I can't seem to get it in the right place, and it's greatly affecting the screen responsiveness and accuracy. I ended up throwing them away.
Turning it on, and I'm already having issue with the initial setup process. First of all, I was asked to create a Huawei ID. But guess what -- I live in Canada but Canada isn't an available option in the region list, somehow US is. I mean, this phone is not even available in US, why would you provide that as an option but not Canada?
I went ahead choosing US as the region. It asked for phone verification, that worked for me because US and Canada share the same country code.
After that, I uninstall a bunch of pre-installed apps -- they are mostly popular apps in China, plus a few useless utilities made by Huawei. I uninstall about 25 apps during this process.
Then I tried to restore all my apps from the old phone, first step would be getting Google Play Service working. Surprisingly Google Play Service is pre-installed. but I wasn't able to update it through the Huawei App Store, because US Huawei ID apparently is not supported. In fact I can't use any of the pre-installed Huawei apps, they are all blocked. So I deleted my account and created a Chinese one instead.
I was able to access the app store and update Google Play Service, along with Play Store. Google backup apparently didn't work. I ended up using the Huawei "Phone Clone" app to transfer all my stuff to this phone. It does the job pretty well.
Getting third party launcher working on Chinese ROM (If you have a global version then this may not apply to you)
Spent sometime getting all the apps logged in and tweaking settings, I started to look into replacing the stock launcher. But then you can't change launcher on the Chinese rom, so I did some research and here is what I did:
1. Install a third party launcher. I chose Nova Launcher here. Never used it before but Rootless Launcher kept crashing and for Rootless Pixel 2 Launcher, there is an annoying security alert saying "Google is using microphone" that kept popping up.
1. Enable developer mode
2. Enable USB Debug
3. Connect the phone to PC
4. Access ADB shell
5. uninstall stock launch: pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.huawei.android.launcher
6. Reboot
A few notes on using this 3rd party launcher hack:
* I also installed the Nova companion app to have Google Feed panel access.
* You need to allow Nova companion to auto-launch in Settings -> Apps -> App Launch, otherwise rebooting the phone will make Google Feed panel disappear.
* If you select gesture navigation in system setting, swiping up from bottom may not work.
Getting Google Assistant to work
The phone has the Huawei voice assistant by default, and changing the default Assistant app to Google doesn't work. The shortcut still only bring up the Huawei voice assistant. The fix is to uninstall the app using the same process above. The package name is com.huawei.vassistant. After reboot, I was able to access Google Assistant using the home button (I still prefer three key navigation). "OK Google" doesn't work on Home screen though.
Make sure push notifications are working
I also noticed I don't receive push notifications most of the time. For example, I have Duo Mobile which is used as an authenticator at work. Having the screen on, I didn't receive the push notification. I had to launch the app manually to see the authentication request. Here is a workaround:
1. Settings -> Apps -> App Launch
2. Find the app you wish to receive push notification
3. Disable auto manage, it will ask you how you want to manage manually, choose Auto-launch and Run in Background at least
Known Issues/Todo list
Here are some of the things that I'm having issue with but haven't figured out a solution yet. Please let me know if you know a solution to any of them:
1. Google Pay Contactless does not work. This is almost a deal breaker. From what I've read, it seems to be just Chinese version doesn't work.
1. LastPass accessibility setting gets reverted to off randomly. This seems to related to when I close all apps using the trashcan button on recent apps screen.
2. Default Assistant app setting mysteriously gets reset to None. Still don't understand why.
3. Text in the notification just look so bad. Also not sure how to tweak that.
4. The security alert for app using microphone keeps popping up in Google Assist and Google Feed. I'm not sure how I should feel about that...
Things I like about this device
1. Chinese version supported dual SIM. I believe the global version does not.
2. photos in low lights are awesome.
3. charging is super fast! I also got the wireless charging thing.
4. I'm happy with its battery performance so far.
5. It's a faster device overall. The games I play run smoother on this phone comparing to Oneplus 5. I understand OP5 is an older phone but that's the only reference point I got.
That's what I had so far. I'm also keeping an eye on the progress of FunkyHuawei Mate 20 Pro support -- I'm looking forward to flash the global version ROM hoping it has better google integration and less chinese-oriented useless "features".
Hope it helps!
Thanks for sharing
Does the device show as being certified in the Google Play Store? If not, this would probably explain why contactless via GP doesn't work

when attempting to enable contactless, the following messages appear in order:
contacting your bank...
your bank is verifying your card...
added feature cannot be setup. contact your bank to resolve this issue.
I called the bank and they said they didn't get the request so they don't know what error it is.
I contacted Google and haven't got a response.
Did you already have the card in your GPay wallet, and were re-verifying, or did you add it from scratch? Guessing it may not make a difference though.

P 30 Pro Firmware VOG-AL10

Hello,
I'm currently in China but from Canada, and picked up the P 30 Pro (love it!) while here.
I've been reading I can update the firmware to get Google on swipe left instead of HiBoard.
The model says it's a VOG-AL10 on the settings page. Is it possible to use the VOG-L29 or or other firmware? I don't want to brick my device.
Everything on the phone otherwise works, I just don't like the HiBoard being in Chinese so I would like to get google on that screen instead. Is this possible yet? I do have developer options but i cannot select unlock bootloader.
This is my first Huawai phone so I'm not too clear on how to go about doing this.
I was going to grab the firmware from this site;

Hi ! Does anyone have any news on if we are able to flash international firmware on vog-al10 ? I'm in the same situation as OP. Bought the phone in China but wanted to use it in Europe and current firmware is not well translated. Also, are we able to do so without unlocking the bootloader ?

Probably I didn't describe the issue well. I can also add a card but not to be used with NFC at store. So same as you..
I also have P30 Pro VOG-AL10 (512GB, 8GB) and I'd like to crossflash it to L29.
Can I flash it using "normal" procedure (firmware->sd card, run update.app) ?
VOG-AL10 with Google account
Here is the solution: You need a mid range non activated in China Huawei phone logged with your Google personal account turned on. Open the ' PHONE CLONE' in your VOG-AL10 and select 'THIS IS THE NEW PHONE' to transfer all your data and apps stored in the mid range phone to the VOG-AL10. When the process has finished your VOG-AL10 will be a Chinese Huawei cloned phone with all the Google account functions.
Moral of the story - do your research first.
The P30 Pro Chinese versions do not usually have Google Play certification. I don't believe that there is currently a way to change the model ID to VOG-L29 either.

Chinese Rom Down Sides for Global Use

I'm almost ready to pull the trigger on a 256/8 varient of the k20 pro with the intention of just using the phone as daily with the Chinese Rom in A urope ,I know there will be other roMs but I just can't be arsed with all the modding about, getting too old and too busy to be messing, but love the look of the phone specs etc
Is there any downsides to using the Chinese rom,Im happy enough with the lack of band 20 and I understand the phone will get OTAs and there is English support
Are there any other problems besides the bloat which should be easy to remove, bit of fiddling for play store too I think
Should all apps work ok etc or anything else I should look out for
I think Europe version should be mi 9t pro, if you want to flash Chinese stock room, unlock bootloader first, fastboot flash Chinese full package

No no no,read my post before giving a reply, I was enquiring about the Chinese rom,the kind of disadvantages to using it in Europe because there is no 9T pro,no global rom as yet
Im using it Croatia, there is lack of the band 20 and you manually must instal google playstore and services. Other than than that there arent any dissadvantages
A friend that had chinese miui on mi8, told me that he had some problems with gps, and also it would have low signal strength, and those where fixed with global rom.
Gps works fine, and signal strength depends on coverage off cell towers. I can say that it has same signal strength as poco atleast where i live.

I would imagine GPS is particularly good with the new dual band GPS it has.
i'm more less in the same page, im eager to buy the Chinese version, but not sure if i wont give up of B28, coz its make a lot of diff here in Brazil.
Do you guys think this band will be available for future update, like previously happened to Mi9, it didnt have band 28, but its got now. Maybe its only software dependent, right?
No Google Keyboard (English) in China ROM K20 Pro
I could not see the Google Keyboard that can be used across apps even after installing the Google Services in my K20 Pro Chinese Version.
i am also in your situation , i can't understand why there isn't a k20 pro chinese rom review to explain exactly which are in DETAILS the difference , we know about play store etc
@GANESHBRUCE can't you you install any keyboard from play store ? (including google keyboard) ?
I wanted a chinese rom device, but ended up buying a k20pro with fake indian rom.can i flash chinese rom without a issue?
I bought the the Chinese rom 256/8 and I the amount of bloatware is insane! At least I have uninstalled 30 apps, some can't be installed, this was a turn off for me, but now I just have to live with it. Other things all good all fine.
But I want to ask experts here, is there any privacy issue with the Chinese ROM? With this amount of apps I feel like they have all kind of data monitoring just to shove their adds in my face, so is there anything I must do? Block something or stop specific service?
One can use the Chinese ROM without any flashing but you have to live with some Xiaomi app and some minor Chinese in some places even after switching to English.
There are no major issues as far as I know.

Third party app paid Xiaomi a price for their apps to be pre-installed. The only ad coming through may only be from Xiaomi MIUI.
I've used it for a week and everything worked just fine, there was some cool features that only works in chinese rom wich was MI AI wich pre loads apps and its basically like google assistant (pre loading apps was cool), it had a special keyboard only for inputing passwords and there's more! the downside was because i installed google play store by an apk (maybe if you install gapps.org it fixes it) it coudn't sync my contacts and other things (real big problem for me) and besides the stupid chinese apps there's some MIUI apps that doesn't change with the language like the calendar and others i don't remember...
Try it for youself, at the moment i'm using mi globe rom, wich is based of the chinese rom + features and debloated.

You need to install calendar and contact sync apk and ensure autostart is enabled to sync.

You can download GBoard (Google Keyboard) from the Playstore and set it as your Default keyboard in Settings.
I used it for a while but had to switch to the India ROM (kinda Global I guess).
Honestly the English version of the China ROM (stock) was fine with me but Google Home wasn't working fine because it mixed up English and French (phone was in English/ Google Home in French), my wife couldn't use it because she doesn't speak English. The other downside was the MI "Browser" being launched by default for all external apps including GMail, very annoying for me.
Other than that everything was working fine, and I liked being able to see the new features (like the new multiple shot in the camera not available in India). The bloatware was kind of ok with me, except MI AI which was sometimes confused with Google Assistant by the phone in certain apps/ devices (Bluetooth).

My account is registered without any problem with my email but if you want to start the warranty card you need a chinese / indian phone number. I don't need that because Liaow allready give a warranty. Really not a big deal for me.

what do you mean?
how to register live without a chinese phone number?
To create an account with e-mail only, you should be able to log in to your Vivo account with just e-mail if you use "WeChat, Alipay, Weibo, graph renren" account with other login methods from the official Vivo website in China . I created an account this way. No need for China, Hong Kong or India numbers.
You can use this german manual for creating a acc with a buyed number for just a few cents and also it is for change the launcher permanent to another one.
Vivo nex launcher wechseln
works bro thanks

Please keep in mind that this website generates a temporary number, which can be a massive pain, on my Vivo Nex S I did a factory reset a few weeks after using this method and when I started setting up the device, it recognise that the phone was already linked to a VIVO account and it asked again to confirm the PIN, the issue here is that the PIN was sent to the number generated from the website above, but because the number used was a temporary one, I was unable to setup my device after the reset, I eventually followed a hacky guide to bypass this, but it was a lot of frustrating hours around this. After this horrible experience, I put it straight to eBay, I'll never buy a Chinese model of Vivo or Oppo phones, both require a chinese number to set them up.
