TWRP 3.2.1-0 not working - Galaxy S III I9305 (4G LTE + 2GB RAM) Q&A, Help &

Hi Folks...
Got me an Samsumg Galaxy S3 GT-I9305.
I tried to install RR, so first step obviously was getting TWRP 3.2.1-0-i9305.img.tar.
Downloaded over at https://dl.twrp.me/i9305 the said version.
Installed with Odin V3 and everything came up clear but when i tried to boot into recovery i got stuck in Bootlogo
Playing around for a while i decided to install TWRP 3.0.2-1 which worked fine on first try.
Tried to flash the 3.2.1-0-i9305.img via TWRP gave me the error message "File is too big".
Can anyone confirm?

That version is too big for the recovery partition on our device.. Need someone to compress it to make it smaller to fit the partition size of the device.

I have the same problem with the last version TWRP 3.2.1.0.
When I push this one with Odin 3.12, all is sucess but when i reboot the device in custom recovery, it can't, it is stuck

TWRP 3.2.1-0 works great on my S3 i9300, flashed from the external SD card so could you please edit your thread title and add: S3 GT-I9305?
Thanks!

Confirmed also. Unable to use 3.2.1-0 for install/upgrade.
3.0.2-1 works fine, https://dl.twrp.me/i9305/twrp-3.0.2-1-i9305.img.html

Working 3.2.1-0 credit goes to @Option58 the one who compress it. Thank him. Enjoy guys.

Official TWRP 3.2.1-0 for i9305 Problem Reported to TeamWin TWRP
@Lexington67 @public3n3my @GouLt @mouth
I reported the problem to the TeamWin TWRP so other S3 i9305 users don't waste their time with this version:
Hello, several XDA i9305 users report here
that version TWRP 3.2.1-0 returns error: "File is too big".

Awesome support from a non-profit open source community project IMO.

I'm working on my own TWRP device tree, based on official LineageOS repos, with the intention of getting official support for version 3.2.1-0. I'll create my own thread when my build is ready. According to TWRP's official page for the i9305, there is no current official maintainer.
Edit: I compiled a 3.2.1-0 build and created a separate thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/development-i9305/recovery-twrp-3-2-1-0-t3741413

Flashing TWRP

Dear XDA users,
I've installed TWRP 3.0.0 and CM13 on my S5 mini a long time ago, but when I found out there was an update available for cyanognmod, I saw there was a newer version of TWRP available! My question is, how do I install the latest TWRP version? Can I just install it using the older version, or does that brick my device? I'm also wondering if it's really necessary to update, since I think the old TWRP version should work fine.
Thank in advance,
StanleyNL (Stan)
MOD EDIT: Solved, closed per OP request

Troubleshooting, touch screen not working in TWRP

Hi everyone, so some mistakes have been made today. While playing around with substratum theme engine on my mix running lineage-os 14.1, i had uninstalled one of the themes and then decided to uninstall the app entirely, however after uninstall it didnt reset the theme, so i rebooted. While attempting to reboot it got stuck in a boot loop. At this point I plugged my phone into my pc and booted into twrp so i could access my files and get them off, however when attempting to boot into twrp i could not use the touch screen which is preventing me from re-flashing my rom. and so after troubleshooting for an hour or soi had all my files off of my device, so i decided to format the system partition. so now i have no rom flashed and a twrp that i cannot use due to lack of touchscreen, its temporarily bricked i guess. So my questions are; A. can i use an otg cable and a mouse to control twrp? B. Is there some way to directly flash a rom from adb or from the connected pc. Then I should also state that I have tried older/newer versions of twrp to try to get the touchscreen working, to no avail (currently running 3.1.1-0 lithium). Ive read that it may be touchscreen drivers or something that are mis-matched from the rom. the onlyt issue is that there is no rom, also ive heard that the touchscreen is at a kernel level so i may need to flash a new kernel to get it working. TBH im not going to do anything else so that i dont completely brick my phone. Thank you all in advance for helping out!
Please try this (older) TWRP by MrRaines: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=673368273298927160
It's TWRP 3.0.2-0 based but has different kernel/driver that is more compatible with a varous bunch of ROMs.
You're a god, this is exactly what I needed, thanks!!!

Ok glad to read that it works.
Please keep in mind: the TWRP of MrRaines is an older one and is heavily modified.
ATM i'm trying to investigate what's the specific reason other TWRP versions are conflicting with touchscreen drivers on every new release of an stable or dev rom but MrRaines TWRP is still working ^^
The TWRP compatibility case has become even worse with the release of some Android 7.x / Nougat based ROMs - without an official kernel source release for Android 7 by Xiaomi (Android 6 kernel sources should have been released some weeks ago).
Could take a couple of days to find a reason and some more to find a solution...
... any help, tips and confidential information is very welcome @MrRaines @jcadduono

Hmmm. I did try two or even three other versions of TWRP. The first two would not even flash giving me an error. The third worked but touch screen would not work. Final attempt was the one from MrRaines which worked perfect!

If official two.me one works on 2gb
This should work too.
I just forked the official tree and fixed something for building on omni Oreo tree (currently official twrp.me is build on nougat tree, not updated)
And changed the recovery kernel to @abhishek987 one
I had extractorfork() issue on the official build when restoring a backup. Does your recovery fixed that?
What are the benefits of this recovery? Less bugs? Which? Extras?
Hi, I will update a new build of a this recovery soon.
For some fixing and build on latest omni 8.1 tree.

[RECOVERY][TB-8704X/F/V][UNOFFICIAL] TWRP 3.4.0-0 for Lenovo Tab4 8 Plus

I forked Matshias repo and updated TWRP for the Lenovo Tab4 8 Plus. TWRP for TB-8704X/F/V were built using their respective kernels so cross flashing may not work so make sure you flash the right one for your device, for example flashing TWRP for TB-8704X on the TB-8704F will break touch.
Credits to Matshias for providing his device tree
I only have the TB-8704X so thanks to plutothot for helping test this on the TB-8704F and to xsacx for helping test this on the TB-8704V
Thanks to everyone in the LOS 16 and LOS 17.1 threads for the encouragement.

For the record this worked for me when all others failed!
I can only test with TB-8704X so let me know if there are any issues with TWRP 3.4.0-0 with TB-8704F and V
I've had reports that touch is broken on TB-8704F with TWRP 3.4.0-0. If more people reports the same issue then I'll remove TWRP 3.4.0-0 for TB-8704F. Honestly I don't see any difference between 3.3.1-0 and 3.4.0-0 anyways .
So is 3.4.0 working OK on TB-8704F??.......I'm trying to interpret you crossing out your last post @lancebuks

Sorry about that - I crossed it out and went downstairs for dinner and forgot to finish updating it.
Yes 3.4.0-0 is working on the 8704F. Just make sure that you flash the correct build for your device otherwise touch will break, this is because each TWRP uses different kernels for each device, I couldn't build a one-in-all.

No worries, and thanks!!
I can also confirm that 3.4.0.0 is working fine on 8704F, I did the jump from stock to lineage 17.1 2 days ago with it ?
Thanks a lot Lancebucks!!!
Tested 3.4.0-0 on my TB-8704V everything still works perfectly. Thank you!
TB-8704F
System wipe/format doesn't work at all on both versions.
Ends up with message "failed mounting system"
3.2.3-0 from matshias works just fine
Hi.
I've flashed LineageOS 17.1 and it seems to be working fine, so now I'd like to back up.
I've gone in to your latest TWRP (fastboot boot into TWRP) and selected Backup.
Left the default options and swiped to continue, it outputs the following and then nothing happens.
This is what I see after an hour:
Data successfully decrypted, new block device: '/dev/
block/dm-0'
Updating partition details...
...done
Successfully decrypted with default password.
Updating partition details...
...done
Full SELinux support is present.
MTP Enabled
Updating partition details...
I've left the tablet for 2hours and still it sites here.
Any ideas how to resolve this so I can back up ?
Thanks
Quick update on my issue, this is now working.
I've had to boot into twrp-3.2.3-0-tb_8704x.img not TWRP-3.4.0-0_TB-8704F.img to get this working.
Is there an issue with TWRP-3.4.0-0_TB-8704F.img ?
Thanks
@lancebulks

hello, huge thanks for making these recoveries. I can confirm twrp_3_6_1 is working.

unrelated to this thread, I had no dice using your cmw_6_0_2_8 or official j1ace's twrp (maybe due to heimdall flashing?) rebooting to recovery after flashing always struck with top left exclamatory mark, this issue is still present on twrp_3_6_1 although it bypasses that after pressing recovery button sequence again
